My brother was “officially” diagnosed with Chron 3 years ago. However his “torture” is lasting much longer, basically since he was 15 years old. Throughout that time the most used diagnose was irritable bowel syndrome. Today my brother is 28 years old and his state is, “there are good, and there are bad days” (like for everyone I guess). But the fact is that in the past 2 years he is most definitely losing weight. He came from 75 kg to 69 kg, and is balancing around that weight, based on his condition. At the moment he is taking Mesalazine (2 x 1g). He is feeling better, but he feels constantly tired, as he says. He is also taking L-Glutamine 500 mg. For his occasional burning pain in stomach he uses an antacid drug called Gastal (Aluminii hydroxidum – magnesii carbonas gel Magnesii hydroxidum). Occasionally he takes VSL3 probiotics. However, he doesn’t use them regularly as they sometimes make his condition worse.
What other probiotics would you guys recommend? What is the “top of the line” for Crohn's?
Recently we came along a company NOW foods. We were interested in following products:
- Ulcetrol - 60 Tablets
- Clinical GI Probiotic - 60 Veg Capsules
- Beta 1,3/1,6- D -Glucan 100 mg - 90 Vcaps
But, as usual we can’t buy that products in our country.
Did anyone try some of that products?
Last summer his doctor put him on a Budosan treatment, but after one cycle he took him “off”, since he didn’t feel that good while taking them.
As for diet goes, he eats as a person in his condition should. Nothing fried, rice, potato, gluten free pasta, chicken, veal, vegetables. He doesn’t eat much fruit though. I’m trying to convince him to start eating fruit first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach. But he says that is not possible, because in the morning he feels this “empty hole” in his stomach and he’s afraid fruit doesn’t suit him well that early in a day.
And the latest addition to the list of his problem is an anal abscess, that he had surgically treated, and is still in a healing process.
Why am I writing all this? Well I’m hoping someone would recognize some part of himself in my brother, and could give me some piece of a advice or a pointer what helped them, or improved their condition.
