In need of friends who understand

May name is sarah. I was diaganosed in may 2006. I Have had I very hard time controlling the symptoms of my dieses and also the symtoms of the Medications. I am currently on Methatraxate shot once a week and Humaria Injectionjs once a week. I am also about to go to a surgon to have a naval hernia repair and possible illium resection do to scaring of that area. I am terrified. I just recently left my job to take better care of myself.I also fall under the doctors assumptions at looking at me that there is not way I could be as sick I say my weight just does not drop like it should. But the test prove them wrong time and time again. Right now I would like some reassurance that the surgeries that I am thinking of having are the right surguries to have. I have had 7 surgeries in 5 years and I am so depressed and not sure who to trust or where to turn to.:sign0085::yfrown:

Wow you've had a lot of surgeries! I've had Crohn's colitis for quite a long time and touch wood haven't had any surgeries yet (although my doctor has told me it's quite likely in the future). Sorry I can't offer you any advice, but thought I would just say I hope you get some answers and that everything goes well for you and you feel better soon

Take care, Vicky

Hi Sarah and welcome. Boy, you have been through a lot. And you are facing more surgeries! You poor thing. But let's cross our fingers that you are going to improve because of your upcoming surgeries.

However, if you are unsure about whether you are making the right move, perhaps getting another opinion would put your mind at ease. Have you considered seeing another GI? I think it would be helpful.

Welcome aboard dawn27sp! It is good to have you here, and I am sorry that you are going through such a difficult period. I have not had any surgeries but I do know that if I did I would be terrified... You have had 7 you are a veteran. I just posted this same article welcoming another member facing possible surgery. I may simply not understand what a surgery can do for a person because I know some people on the forum were glad they had theirs, but I would never want to have one myself. Please check this out: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21910367

I just do not feel people are ever given all the options because of stigmas associated with them and because of people in the past who I am sure are all dead now decided that cannabis is evil and will destroy the USA primarily because they were racist if you read the history of how marijuana came to be outlawed in good ol' Murica! (basically immigrants from Mexico frequently used marijuana for recreation while white folks had their drug, namely booze... well there were white women cavorting around with Mexican immigrants and all the angry gringos decided they would put an end to that and outlaw weed and then throw all the immigrants in jail therefore depriving the sick of one of the greatest medications known to man...by the way I am a white dude so I should be able to call my own folks gringos :p)

Anyhoo great to have you here, sorry for my rant, but it is the truth!!!!!! :D

Oh, and on the forum there are boards specifically devoted to surgeries many of those folks have been in the same position you are in, so it would be good to post your same concerns there, I think it would be good to see what they have done and what they thought about their decisions on surgeries in hind-sight. Like I said some people say that their surgeries gave them their lives back, but I just have a hard time believing that is the answer... at the very least it is extremely unnatural and very dramatic to remove intestine because it is inflamed when inflammation can just move on down the intestine to another part... How does that help?

Hi Sarah and welcome :)

First off, what are your current symptoms that you're having so much trouble managing? And are you on any supplements besides the medications?

As for surgery, sometimes it's the right decision, sometimes it's not. I know that's not helpful but where I'm going with this is the same direction Jill went above: a second opinion. Whenever possible, I think having a second opinion is always useful; at the very least, it can put your mind at greater ease knowing that two doctors concur about the next step.

*hugs* to you.
