Hi everyone,

I've been noticing lately that my teeth have become extremely sensitive to hot or col, and I'm wondering if it could be tied to prednisone. I've never had problems with sensitive teeth before. Last time I was on pred, my teeth were getting sensitive also, but it went away after I tapered off. Now I'm back on and my teeth hurt again! Has anyone else noticed this while on pred?

I'm exactly the same! Never had any problems with sensitivity before pred, but now I find it hard to eat really cold food due to sensitivity! Sure there is some scientific reason behind it which someone on here can explain!

I have always had sensitive teeth, but it seems lately (the last couple of months) they are even more sensitive, especially to cold. I just tapered off prednisone yesterday but had been on it since July 2nd. I never even thought about the prednisone being the cause! Hopefully this sensitivity will get better now that I'm off.

My teeth got really sensitive, so I bought some sensodyne toothpaste to make them feel better. It's now a couple of weeks later and it seems to have worked - and I'm still on Prednis at the same dosage too.

Lady M brings up a good point. My dentist recently recommended I use sensodyne toothpaste like a cream on my teeth before going to bed (as well as using it to brush with) at night and then just clean my teeth as normal in the morning again.

She said they found it benefitted alot of their patients. Seems to be helping me.

I have been on pred since August, and I just started noticing very sensitive teeth to cold. Today was my last day at 5 mg, I milked it since August with some extra bottles in the closet. Oh prednisone, my evil but loving friend - how I will miss you so...

That happens to me on prednisone too. And it would go away when I tapered. You are definitely not alone on this one.

At the same time when I flare I get bleeding gums but the prednisone stops it.

I tried to at least not make it too stressful by using sensodyne and switching to a soft toothbrush and using mouthwashes that help strengthen enamel.

As usual....prednisone is a blessing and a curse..... :p
