question for ladies

I can't post in the women's forum for obvious reasons, however I'm just wondering something.
I've a friend with crohn's who has mentioned/complained that it gets worse for her around that time of month, usually a few days before her period starts. Is this common?
She's currently without a proper GI at the moment, so she can't really ask one.

Very common.

I spoke with my GI about it and he told me that most women complain of the same thing.

Hug to you for caring about her.

I shouldn't be caring for her right now.

A friend made me cookies for Christmas and made them gluten free so they could be shared with people I know who can't gluten. I have no clue if they were any good because the friend in question ate them all.

its hard to label it cookie thievery if she made the cookies AND ate them.. kind of like cookie psych-out "Oh look I made these yum-o cookies! PSYCH! none for you!!"

now I bet this psych!! thing is regional and most of you have no idea what I'm talking about.

back to the period - I'd say about 5 days before my period comes, period cramping starts. it gets really bad once my period has arrived. I _always_ have D with bad cramps. it makes everything else cramp up too. I'm not allowed to take NSAIDS, but if she can take them, she should try doing a regular dose just before and during her period to see if it helps. A doctor told me once that if I wait until the period pain is really bad that it will take a lot more to make it go away, but if I were to treat it the whole time, it wouldn't get as bad. I just groan, clutch my stomach, and reach for the vaporizer.

The cookie provider and the cookie thiever are different people, I should have specified. Trying to not identify with names as I'm trying to get the thiever to join the forum.

Jason, yes her period will make her Crohns worse. We girls on here talk about that all the time.

May you have cookies, many many cookies together soon. :lol2:

Death to the cookie thief!

I asked several friends who don't have Crohn's, and they often get diarrhea when they get their period.

aw, I wish brownies did it for me, but I don't get any benefit from eating, only sublingual and inhalation.

Holy crap yes, that time of the month makes things a thousand times worse for me! I nearly always have to take time off work every month because the cramps and D are unbearable. Right now I'm curled up in bed dosed up to the eyeballs with codeine with a heat pack trying to make my tummy stop feeling so awful :frown:

I concur, "that time of the month" makes things a lot worse - mainly cramping and pain, it used to also cause an increase in d but since I've been on Asacol I rarely get d anymore, even when I'm on my period. When I first became ill, a (jerk) doctor told me it's just IBS and depression and he prescribed Bentyl (actually the generic, dicyclomine). Since I can't take NSAIDs, I have been taking Bentyl to ease the period cramps, and it actually works okay for that. Just a thought, if your cookie-stealing friend can't take NSAIDs then she might want to try an anti-spasmodic, although I believe Bentyl is prescription-only. If she doesn't have a GI, her GP should be able to prescribe that one (the jerk who prescribed it to me was a GP).

Edited to add: A heating pad is also a must! Hot baths can also help ease the mega-cramping that goes on during that time of the month.

Oh yes, I would experience a flare every single month with my cycle, complete with vomitting, diarrhea, no appetite. It would just vanish after I stopped.

Thermacare wraps for menstrual pain are awesome-like a portable heating pad. And chocolate, plenty of chocolate!

Hey Jason ~ Jeannette has a good point about chocolate. :cookie: Were those cookies made with chocolate, by chance???? :ylol:

Reminds me of a clapping game I used to play with Brownies (ie the scout movement for girls, not the delicious chocolatey treat)

Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?
Jason stole the cookies from the cookie jar
Not I stole the cookies from the cookie jar
Then who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?
Jeanette stole the cookes from the cookie jar

they were peanut butter, I think.

Rebecca we have the same game over here but it was slightly different.

All: Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?
Rebecca:Jason stole the cookies from cookie jar
Jason: Who me?
All: Who me?
Rebecca: Yes, You.
All: Yes, you.
Jason: Couldn't be.
All: Couldn't be.
Rebecca: Then who?
All: The who?
Jason: Jeanette stole the cookies from the cookie jar.

and it repeats

Can "taking" cookies during one's period be really regarded as "theft"? 'Cause in my eyes, during my period, all bets are off, and it's a 'public service' to allow a menstruating Kismet to eat your cookies!

And yes, flare every bloody time I had my period. Grrr.

Kismet

It's 10:30 am and I'm having a martini. I know, it's very bad, but I have friends over for a belated new year's brunch. So, take my post as you will, but two weeks after one's period =ovulation. The wonders of ovulation is that a lot of the symptoms of your period returns to whack you over the head.

But really, isn't *any* time a good time to steal another person's cookie? I guard all delicious treats in the most selfish of ways in case there are others out there like me who have no respect for common decency and cookies.

Well period makes them cookies open game and so does being high especially on the prednisone too. I so would steal your cookies if I was high on prednisone and expecting my period!!! Ha ha ha I flare that time of month too:( But I had to mess with you about your cookies but Im sorry she took them!

YES! It happens every month. Exacerbates Crohn's symptoms.
