So embarrassed to even write this but I have a question for the women on remicade. Are you experiencing abnormal periods?? I notice when I was on humira from aug-October my periods were extremely heavy! I always started a week before I was due and then they were very clotty. Now that I'm on remicade (just had second infusion) it seems to be the same way. Prior to being on any crohns medication I never had this problem before. I started every month on the same day and it lasted 4 to 5 days normal flow. Is this normal? The clotting is making me nervous. Why or how could these meds effect your menstrual cycle in this way. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

whenever the body is under a great deal of stress (illness, new medications, surgeries, stress from family, school, work, etc.), it will halt ovulation until the stressor has passed. Then the body will resume ovulation and have a period.

My Gyn told me this when my periods were abnormal. Also, another thing that can make your cycles abnormal is when you are in peri menopause. That is where you body starts to decrease hormone levels before you reach complete menopause.

I had sporratic cycles for a few years and then I asked my hematologist to check my hormone levels as I hadn't had AF in 10 months. She called and told me that the results showed I was in complete menopause. Happy birthday to me at age 43, I got my wish!!

I was so happy because I wouldn't have any more "hormonal flares", cramps, stomach aches, water retention, and ER trips due to partial blockages several days before my cycle started.

Clotting is very normal BUT if you are bleeding heavy to the point where you are changing your pad every hour, you need to get in to see your Gyn to rule out any serious conditions.

good luck and hugs to you

Thanks for replying Hun. Truly appreciate it. I'm only 36 so the pre menopause thing wouldn't apply to me just yet. I never had clotting or bleeding like this until I started these meds. I will def talk to my GI and GYN about this situation though. This morning I was changing my pad at lease 3 to 4 times. It slow down a bit but still heavier then norm and so so bright in color. Thanks again. Hugs !!

I did not experience this issue. However, soon after starting Remicade, I started getting Uterine fibroids. They continued to grow until I eventually required a hysterectomy. No one can say for sure it was the result of Remicade, but I think it was.

Your symptoms sound like what I had in peri-menopause. 36 isnt too young, lots of women start early peri-menopause. When it happened to me, completley scared and freaked me out. Big clots and heavy bleeding. That has stopped, but still have lots of spotting a week before prriod and period is now a lot lighter. This started with me around 42, I'm now 44.

when i started peri menopause i was told that it would take 10 yrs. until i hit menopause.

It only took me 2 yrs. jokes on the Gyn

I have been on Remi and Aza for over a year and seemed fine but in the last few months I have started having irregular bleeding. I have a coil so it is always light but it comes at strange times and I get odd in-between spotting and stuff. The Doc has put me on a short course of hormones to see if that "resets" me , they upset my tummy for a few days at first but I seem to have settled down now.

I am 37 :)

Hi, i'm 28, been on imuran for nearly 2 years and remicade for the past year. Up until 3 months ago, my period was regular and consistent. For the past 3 months my period has been coming every 14-20 days, which is really not normal for me. And they appear to be full normal periods, 7 days long. i'm a little concerned since i'm starting to think about having children in the next couple of years. I have a gyno appointment in 2 weeks... hopefully i will get a straight answer as to what may be the cause and that it's nothing serious. You should defiitely get that checked out.

Thank you. I'm going to make a appointment with my GYN as soon as I end. But I'm also going to mention it to my GI dr too. This is def out of the norm for me.
