Hi Stoma buddies!

I am seriously gassy ever since my obstruction incident last month! I never used to have problems with stoma farts or my bag filling up with air (except maybe sometimes overnight, but not every night).

Now I am Bilbo is farting like crazy, and my bag is filling up with air! Doesn't matter what I eat or drink, it's like a wind tunnel down there.

What the heck!? Could this be some weird change in my system after the obstruction, or is it coincidence that it started after the obstruction??

Anything I can do to cut down on the gas??

Help! -Ames

PS When I was in the hospital, after the obstruction cleared, Bilbo was farting like crazy and LOUDLY! My dad, who is hard of hearing, had no trouble hearing those farts across the room. I was like, "Sure, you can't hear what Mom is saying while sitting right next to you but my stoma farts, those you can hear???"

Oh Amy!!! As you are on a one piece system I would imagine that you dont have filters either in your bag? Can you get those gel things they put in bags, that have charcoal in them to help you so you dont baloon??

Speaking of, charcoal tablets might just help. And Gas -X. (can you send me some over here???)

Sounds like your bowels are working overtime. Peppermint tea?

Oh, and lots of sex. Yes, that could push it right out.

Hahaha Misty. I will NOT tell Levi about your last comment!

I actually have been drinking lots of peppermint tea since the surgery. I will try some gas-x. It's weird because it's not painful at all. I don't even feel the gas/air coming out - it's just, all of the sudden, i have a big, air-filled bag down there!!

I think of you lots and hope you are doing okay. xo - Ames

Hi, I've had some changes myself over the last several months in regards to gas. It started suddenly, but not immediately after an obstruction. I don't know what caused it. I can't ever recall it being this bad. I have since had an ileoscopy and antibiotics. Nothing showed up in the scope, and the antibiotics made no difference. My gastroenterologist suggested that I try probiotics and see a Naturopath. Probiotics didn't seem to help, either. The gas has mostly gone away now for reasons unknown. (it started around May) but it seems that I'm more gassy in general. Sorry I can't offer anything more than the hope that it clears up for you!

Thanks - glad to know I am not alone in the mysterious appearance of gas! It seems better now, but still there moreso than before the obstruction. I do wonder if it had anything to do with dietary changes - I was mostly carbs and meat after the obstruction. Now I have added fruits and veg back in and the gas is not as bad. Which is so weird because you'd think it would be worse!

Go figure! - Ames
