Tails or shooting stars

This is kind of weird but I felt the need to ask.

My vision is flawless as far as seeing close or far or even very very small lettering etc.. etc..
No glasses or contacts.

not sure if this is anemia, or related to crohn's but i tend to see Little "Shooting Stars" Or "fast moving Tails" On the sides or sometimes in front of my vision.

Sometimes i think I saw a fly but didnt and sometimes the little white streaks or shooting star is very obvious on the side of my vision.

When do i see these? usually when i look at the computer when im tired or when im in a brighter room with white walls etc..

Does it affect the way i see? Not really but its annoying.

Wondering if its normal or anemia or anxiety related.

I sometimes think I see things falling from the sky quickly in front of me, also I've got good sight no glasses etc. Weird thought it was just me.

Kasper, I get those too. I call them floaters??? They were much worse when I was really sick. I was very malnourished and dehydrated. Sometimes it was almost like I was looking out of a window with water running down it?? I did go to the eye doctor and had it checked out. I have pretty good vision as well. He really did not find anything abnormal.I get little floaters now and then
, but it is much better. You should get it checked out because Crohn's can cause Uveitis. Good luck.

Its been like that for a long time now.. the Little Streamers or shooting stars etc.. been on for months to.. I think it could be anemia. If it was a retinal Detachment..... or forming of one.. it would NEVER go that long.

GOD for bid id be almost blind by now.. vision is flawless otherwise and no where near a retinal problem..

I think it is just crohn's related not sure. When i wear sunglasses i almost NEVER see them.

Its not floaters.. I know what those are.

Kasper see an opthamologist for sure, I wear contacts but there could be something floating in your eye(s) little bits can get in there and mess things up. Do you have any yellow areas on the white part of the eyes? I have some from stuff actually scratching the surface of my eyes and it's basically a scab that never goes away I was told by the eye doc.

actually popcorn your right that is the actual name for em they are called floaters and they are harmless im 30 and ive been seeing em as long as i can remeber. now if your seeing firework like flashes of light on the peripherie of your vision then that is quiet serious and could be detaching of a retina in your eye.

These are usually when i am around bright light or looking at my computer screen..

just single long shooting stars and swim real fast across or on the side of my vision and go away..

seem "harmless"
just annoying.

Can't tell when i see them more often.. Because some days ill see em only once or twice..

I work for an opthalmologist floaters can be normal also known as posterior vitreous detachments alot of people have them and you just have to deal with them and yes they are annoying. An increase in floaters in frequency and size can be an indication of a retinal detachment. If you have never seen an eye doctor before now might be a good time just to get more information and to make sure that this is all that is going on.

That adds more to the puzzle. I get what you're referring to in bright light. I'm really light sensitive though. Maybe try sunglasses and see if they stop.

Its funny because sunglasses does kind of help. I do see the single "tails" or Shooting stars" less often with them on.. But in the house? Who wears sunglasses in the home :-D ?

Did you go to the eye doctor yet??? Get it checked out. Have you checked out the Crohn's involvement of the eyes? (Uveitis) Look it up on Dr. Google and see if you have any of the matching symptoms. Don't mess around with your eyes buddy....I'm just sayin'. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac. I'll worry myself sick until I get something checked out..You are starting to make me worry about you....Don't make me start acting like your momma!!! Good luck.

I'm still with Popcorn there Kasper - I would pay the money and have it checked out. Not something I would self treat. Still doesn't sound like just floaters to me......

Its been like this for Months to years.

Its always on and off. It isnt a retinal detachment obviously because u cant go more then a few days with that.

i asked an Eye doctor who said it was a phenomenon.

Uvetis? I dont have any pain or redness in my eyes. I dont even have any uvetis symptoms.

Its better with hydration and sleep

I know this thread is years old but I've been experiencing the EXACT same thing as Kasper87 and Jinkx. I'm so glad I finally found other people who have been experiencing this. It just started about a week ago for me. I can't find any information on the web because whenever I search the symptoms the results are always related to floaters. I know that these are definitely not floaters. There's a thing called Blue Field Entoptic Phenomenon where one can see the white blood cells within the eye when looking at a blue back drop. This may be what I'm seeing but I'm not sure because it seems to happen all the time whether or not blue light is present. My physician is recommending an Ophthalmologist for me so I'll be seeing one within the next week or so.

I have Ulcerative Colitis. Not sure if it's related.

Kasper, what kind of phenomenon did your eye doctor say it was? Was it not related to Crohn's? If you could share your experience with me it would help me out a lot because this has been driving me crazy and I have to wait for my HMO to approve a visit to the Ophthalmologist. Thanks in advance!

Prednisone can affect your vision for one.

This sounds almost like aura. Have you ever seen a neurologist? It might be a long shot but you could be having "silent" migraines.

Thanks for the reply. I was on Prednisone back in 2007 but haven't touched it since. I hadn't thought to look into what kind of effects that can have on vision. I am currently on Asacol and Remicade.

I believe this may be some kind of Migraine Aura symptom. I notice it more when I'm tired and it's usually followed by a bad headache. My Mom gets these too and I've read it can be genetic. I've had to put up with migraines my whole life but this is the first time I've noticed Aura symptoms. I've also noticed brief lightning flashes and scotoma. There are some articles online detailing research that connects migraine and cluster headache susceptibility to Crohn's/Colitis, though there doesn't seem to be definite evidence. My migraines definitely got worst around the time I was diagnosed, but that could just be due to the stress of the diagnosis. Who knows.

I'm seeing an eye specialist tomorrow just to be safe.

That's good, because flashes of light can indicate a torn retina, or other serious eye condition.

It could be an aura, or it could be floaters. If you suddenly have a lot of floaters, then see an opthamologist right away. I had an infection in my left eye when I was 7, and have had floaters in that eye ever since. It can be very distracting when there is fresh snow outside or anything white, so I often wear sunglasses on even overcast days.

I saw an ophthalmologist a couple days ago. No sign of physical damage. I have another check up in six weeks. She said there is such a thing as "shooting stars" that is fairly common. I had not heard of them until my onset. The cause is not known, but it is most likely related to Ocular Migraines, which as I stated previously, I am prone to. It's made worst by stress, lack of sleep, dehydration etc... I guess I just need to learn to relax. If I can just get used to them, I'll probably stop noticing them after a while. Thanks again for the input, everyone.

"Shooting stars" with scotoma and headache onset afterwards is pretty much textbook migraine. I'm glad to hear you have no signs of physical damage.
