Personally I prefer the UNDER. That way my cat has a harder time pulling it all out and ripping it to shreds while I am away at work (which she loves to do!) :p

I also fall into that category of women who get annoyed with toilet paper in the wrong direction and have a crazy urge to change it.

I prefer over.

But i'll take any way as long as someone changes the roll...i seem to be the only who changes it....

over. But I agree with upsetmom, if someone else changes it im not fussed. Many a times I go to my bro's house and find either one piece, or even half a piece resting on top of the cardboard tube so he doesnt have to change it!

I'm in a mixed marriage - I prefer over and the hubby prefers under. ;) Ha ha. If he puts a new roll on in the "under" position, I will change it to over. He won't change it if I put it on the roll in the "over" position. So I can only assume that means I am correct. :p

Oh, and my cat tried unrolling the TP exactly once when she was a kitten. I snuck up behind her as she was happily and obliviously unrolling away. I screamed at her and it must have been enough to have gotten the message through, because she's never tried it since and she's nearly 10 now.

This happens at my place on a daily basis. And if they run out they'll use a new roll and then put it back in the toilet roll holder...:yfaint:

HAHA thanks Chicago
I honestly don't care. As long as there is toilet paper on the role.
Last week our friends moved into their new house. Leave it to me to be for the first to bless their bathroom. So, of course I was the one to put the toilet paper on the roll. a few hours later Andrew came out of the bathroom yelling at me saying that I put the toilet paper on the roll wrong. Three years of being with him and living with him for 2 I never realized that the direction of the toilet paper roll was that important to him

No Cat!! That means your a flippin' control freak!!

Mark, don't make me bust out my ban hammer. *evil laugh*

Okay, so, maybe I'm a bit of a control freak. Mayyyyybe. But TP orientation is super important. And it drives me nuts when it's wrong!

Over? Under? I just start at the back and keep wiping till its clean ;-)

The one thing I noticed .. if children are too young to use it, but old enough to play with it.. you know... unravel just enough to clog the toilet then flood the place when they flush it... over allows them to unroll easier. The 'under' position seems to be less easy for them.

Which isn't so good when they are old enough to use it.

I don't care about over or under too much... but why is it I am the only one who changes the roll? Oh, right. I live alone.

Under because of my two little ones. Poor Grace feels that she needs to wipe till her skin comes off. So anything I can do to make it less easy to unravel is a good thing.

One of my Greyhounds definitely prefers over. He can find the end easier and he seems to be able to run through the house and pull more paper off the roll before a perf separates and ends all of his fun.

And yes, the sweet looking fellow in my avatar is in fact the culprit.

Debate? Its no debate when only over is the correct way. And I will turn the roll too even at other peoples homes if i am there for more then 1 visit to the toilet. ;)

Definitely Over......and I can't stand if it's on the wrong way and I have to always have a spare waiting in case someone else doesn't refill.

Prednisone will not allow it to be under. Funny the little things you pay attention to when you dont sleep. But for the most part, the rolls change out so quickly, it dont matter.

Bluto: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

It has to be over for me. The wife puts it on whatever way it comes out of the package. I always fix it when I see its under.

Over and if it isn't, I change it. Himself says under so the cats can't play with it. News flash - 5 years since they did and boy, was it a mess. but I got the little stinkers - hit 'em with a squirt of water, I did.

LOL! There was a news article about this today…

WE’VE all been there — you go to reach for the toilet paper and it’s annoyingly around the wrong way.

The ‘Great Toilet Paper Debate’ is a popular discussion topic regarding the proper orientation of a toilet paper roll with respect to the bathroom wall, which can be either hung over or under the toilet roll holder.

It’s such a hot issue that it even has its own 5,000 word Wikipedia page, which explains the debate in great detail.

“Toilet paper when used with a toilet roll holder with a horizontal axle parallel to the floor has two possible orientations: the toilet paper may hang over (in front of) or under (behind) the roll. The choice is largely a matter of personal preference, dictated by habit,” it states.

“While many people consider this topic unimportant, some hold strong opinions on the matter. “Defenders of either position cite advantages ranging from aesthetics, hospitality, and cleanliness to paper conservation and the ease of detaching individual squares, it adds”

Roll-based toilet paper dispensing has been around since 1883 and, we’re presuming, so has the argument about whether it should hang over or under.

A recent debate on Lifehacker.com provided some interesting arguments.
“When the roll is backwards, the paper hangs down against the wall, probably 4 inches FURTHER away. To place that precious tissue any further away than necessary results in a possibly dangerous and definitely precarious lean, lifting the buttocks further off the seat and risking leakage or even tumbling to the floor...with even more serious leakage issues,” one user wrote.
“Under. This allows for more easily removing a given sheet or length of paper with a single hand, as you can pull upward and/or sideways against the roll. The “over” position does not allow for this, without a greater chance of pulling unneeded extra paper downward, another added.

Consistently, time and time again, studies show that the majority of people prefer to hang the toilet roll OVER.

So how should it really be?

Looks like the overs have it…I win! :ylol:

What is all this dry paper all are talking about? It's flushable wipes here or I'd never sit properly again. And I not so secretly covet a heated seat with built in bidet.

But if paper it must be, then it must be over ;)

If my roll makes it to the holder it it's over so it's nearer, but usually it's on the radiator like little duck,s Coz it don't usually last long enough to get to the holder lol

Over but mostly I want it soft I mean at hospital it like sandpaper Next colonoscopy I am bringing my own tp I don't care what people think!

Over. Why? Because its a closer reach for us height impaired. If it unrolls too quick= Here's an EZ fix : bend the cardboard a bit= SHAZAM,
We only buy Charmin's Mega Roll size,
thus... Less frequent needs to "replace " the dang empty roll with a NEW FULL roll. (Hint/Tip for all!)

Dont know about yall but my back side is flaming enough! Lol

Put in the fridge

... My fav relief stuff is to wipe with "A & D OINTMENT "! Ahhhhhhhhh! It's usually in the baby priducts area of stores. it's clear, no scent nor hurting chemicals in it. Used as a baby butt protector; -) I use a sm piece of toilet paper to dab on a little extra, after having done the wiping part. The next event, wiping clean is so much less painful cuz tge clear ointment acts nicely for each wipe to cleanse. Repeat often. Share tips, cuz topic isn't a compfy one for many. (((tip n trick.. #2: in a pinch when I'm so raw n tender, yes, i will spit on toilet paper so its a little wet when wiping, this does help a lot..TP doesnt feel like sandpaper, & no hurting tears. (aka: My Tips & Tricks as a "seasoned" CHRONIE:1973.. Hugs
