The pouch that does not stick ileostomy

Hi All,
I am very new to this forum.I have had Crohn's for the past 10 years and I have recently had a Ileostomy operation about 5 weeks ago and I am having trouble with side where the bellybutton is staying stuck down as this is becoming a problem specially when I sleep. I am currently using a 1 piece It would be helpful if someone might have a solution. As I have tried the wings.

Scotty, do you have a stoma nurse?

We all kind of have to try different appliances to find what works for us. As you have an ileo, with more liquid output, have you considered using a two piece system? Most of us ring suppliers directly for samples. Like Coloplast, Convatec and Hollister. The samples are sent directly to you, free of charge.

As most of the staff that answer the customer service lines are ostomates themselves, they are VERY helpful. You may also want to try barrier rings while your stoma is still shrinking, it keeps you from having leaks. (oh, they are wonderful those barrier rings)

I just had a leak on that side myself, due to my parastomal hernia (his name is Ollie..the hernia that is) Remember when applying..bottoms up, and smooth, smooth, smooth.

Hi Scotty.
I'm at week five too. My belly button side also lifted frequently.
I now use a barrier ring, with a two piece, the wings and then a belt.
When I put a new set on, I usually lay down for about an hour, with my hand on it so the body heat helps it adhere.
Since following this process I have had no problems with it lifting and leaking. Fingers crossed this continues. It freaked me out at the start and caused a great deal of anxiety.

Scotty I'm not sure if you area able to try this type of wafer yet but I found personally that convatec two piece convex moldable work best for me. I put on an Eakin seal underneath and use a belt to hold things down. The top and sometimes all of the sides pop up but I have not had a leak in quite a while using this system. My skin is kind of bad under the wafer though so that's part of my own problem but for you you may not have any trouble at all. I hope you can find what works best for you soon.

Scott I'm 8 weeks post op. I use a 1 piece with dermacol seal ( best thing ever). I use a hair drier to heat the wafer, stick it on, hold for 2-3 mins then put waterproof tape over the edge on both sides where it's likely to crease. Give that a try.
