Vapourize vs smoke

Hi,

I just wanted to add my thoughts to this, I used to smoke cannabis and it would instantly make me run to the toilet (same as cigarettes). I found if I use a vapourizer I don't get nearly as bad symptoms, the normal method or rolling a joint really seems a lot more detrimental, it might just be me but smoking is a really big "NO" for my disease.

So yeah, I'm going to try cooking with it when I start getting onto solids but using a vapourizer for me has been a lot better as I get the value from cannabis without the health risks from smoking :)

Thanks for reading.

David

I second this, vaporizing is way better. Smokers (cigarette) are told, stop smoking immediately if you have IBD, so well, don't smoke anything. Vaporizing is not smoking.

Cooking is good too.

The best is oils, it has the highest cannabis content. But I also find that the act of using the vaporizer is sort of therapeutic in itself...

I've been smoking for 5 years now and it really makes sense to not smoke it but ingest it in other ways... Too bad I live in a state where medical marijuana is illegal... thus harder to come by other methods... vaporizers are expensive but I'm seriously considering!

I have the iolite vaporizer and highly recommend it. It's kind of expensive (around $250.00) but worth it.

A far as safety concerns go as to the healthiest methods for marijuana consumption via igniting it are in the following order.
Vaporiser => Joint => Water pipe=> Pipe

Vaporiser for the obvious reason, no smoke. When a joint is rolled the marijuana at the end acts as a filter. Water pipes (bongs) cool the smoke but do very little remove any chemicals that may be damaging (tar), but the smoke is cooled so it give the false sense of security. A regular pipe does nothing to remove anything that is potentially harmful.

This was posted somewhere on the NORML site, but I'm not sure where. If I find it I'll post.

Water pipes remove particulate matter. They've got to be removing something from the smoke otherwise bong water wouldn't smell. I saw that study too and I'm kind of unsure. I'd like to see it done again using higher quality cannabis (in the US all marijuana trials must by law use product from the NIH which is said to be pretty bad) and also looking at activated carbon filters.

I've used the Magic Flight Launch Box and it is pretty neat. Low price, lifetime guarantee, very discrete. Smaller than a deck of cards and easy to use. My only complaint is I can't always tell if it's working. I'm not sure if this is common to all vaporizers as it's the only one I've tried. You don't get as much taste as with smoking and you don't feel the warmth of the smoke.

Using a water pipe does remove some stuff from the smoke but not nearly as one would believe. if you soak wood in water it will change the colour and ad a smell but it doesn't mean it's taking on a lot of particulate. I should have said "does very little" as opposed to "does nothing".

It mostly is removing tar and some aromatics. Higher quality cannabis would to little to alter the results. The difference for the most part is in the level of cannabids present in the buds. The actual plant matter would give off the same amount of toxins pound for pound (provide it was not laced or still had traces of fertilizer or pesticides, or extremely low quality with lots of leaves and stem).

I vaporize. I used to smoke it, but that came with it's own set of issues. I don't cough or hack up nasty now that I vaporize, and I do so multiple times every day. I can't smoke at all now because it makes me instantly nauseous. I've also tried having it in prepared foods, but it also doesn't work as well for me. I think perhaps it just slides on through like everything else before I can actually get much out of it. I made a glycerin tincture with the left-over vaped; about a tablespoon swished in the mouth does ok, but the taste is too difficult if I'm nauseous which is one of the primary reasons I use it.

a little bit about vapes I have tried:

magic flight box can be a little harsh (heat), and you have to pay attention to what you're doing with the battery and stuff.

vapirone vape worked decent. It was loud and slower, and the taste was a little plastic, but the price of the vape was under $200. I'm pretty sure they've moved onto new models now. this one can make balloons

vapolution looks like a little propane bottle. It works real well and the vapor is tasty because everything is glass. The problem with it is that you need decent marijuana that you can roll into a sort of pellet to put into the bottom of the glass straw. if it's too small or ground, it won't stay in the straw and will fall to the bottom of the heater area and burn.

herbalaire is my favorite vaporizer and is comparable to a volcano. It can be used with a whip or with balloons and the taste is clean. the balloons are put together by hand unlike with the volcano. it costs less.

iolite is my portable vaporizer. It uses butane to light up and it heats a chamber that you suck the vapor out of via a long straw thing. it is a little pricey, but I believe it was entirely worth it. You need to take care to use 5x filtered butane. They've just replaced this with the wispr which looks like a little box. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like an improved version of iolite.

my iolite has started being wonky after a couple years of use. It doesn't always turn on right away anymore. If I'm planning to use it, I try to turn it on ahead of time until it finally releases some butane that way it's more likely to start when I go to use it. kind of annoying. I'd like something with larger hits though.

i had the original when they called it the iInhale but apple threatened to sue them or something, lol. the thing didn't take long to start acting up. then, right before my 2 year manufacturer warranty was up, i sent it in to iolite USA and they send me a brand new iolite. this one works perfectly. i'm just not a fan of the small hits. nothing beats a VOLCANO!!! it's so quick and easy. oh well. time to fire up the iolite for a wake n vape :D
