What is YOUR weather like today??

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

I'll give this summer a 3 out of 10 before tossing it into the dumpster. Cold wet, and buggy. I believe the world is heading into an ice age more so than warming up as I remember summers that were hot and steady in my working years with constant wildfire bans. Its been the opposite for a long time now with washouts, unripened crops and pestilence being the norm. The furnace runs more than the airconditioner, I recall the summers of past when I would turn on the airconditioner in June, and it would run non stop until the end of August. The lakes would be warm as soup, now they are like a fridge by comparison along with unrelenting cold damp north east winds. The heatwave prone areas continue to bake as they have always; I believe there is a lot of crying wolf when it comes to the climate. We should be more worried about world conflict and political instability, instead of taxing home heating to the point its become unaffordable for so many.
I totally agree with you Buff but you missed out caring for the older generation who have paid there dues and deserve good health care and respect...

18C Cloudy. Carol I worked in the senior's care home for close to 30 years starting at the bottom cleaning and working my way to overseeing the boilers and mechanical operations to make sure our senior's were safe and comfortable. It was good fulfilling work, and I knew I did my part well whenever I put a smile on those helpless people living there. It's hard to believe that I could be the next one looking for a bed in that place I put my heel and wrench marks on. Sadly the services they recieve have been cut to the bone since I retired, the food was good like home cooking back then, but today its not..

They offered to prepare my meals for me in my aged care cover Buff. But i can still cook just fine and I would rather eat what I prepare myself. Overcast with occasional showers ,a high of 23c Ron.

16c with a fine start but clouding over again...no rain for two days which is nice....Les says the food is not that good but he's used to good home cooking. He has lost weight. All the staff seem to like him so obviously he's behaving himself.I only hope he continues when / if I get him home .I'm feeling optimistic but we'll see. Years ago you'd get a menu the night before and ticked off your choices for the next day and the food was good. But I suspect most of the dementia patients are not aware of what's being fed to them,so they're not likely to get complaints.

I miss the place I worked at, it was like an extended family calling people by their first names. I never had to cook except for my days off as I would eat a large lunch or supper depending upon the shift the food was like home cooking. Evening shifts were the best, it was quiet, and I would service equipment when staff were off shift. Suppers were big and provided socialization with staff and residents. We have senior's services, but many are beyond reach given my remote location. At least one can still get nursing service like the time I had to have the packing replaced daily from the wound after the huge abcess operation on my rectum when I got the ostomy. A better day coming up, maybe some summer?

Cool and overcast but warming up during the days. I'm not very happy with the company providing my home care. I am supposed to receive a statement at the beginning of the month but have seen nothing. A new carer was to supposed to be allocated to me on the seventh and I would be contacted immediately. Nothing so far. Ron.

I am going to finally see the surgeon, and hope there will be a plan forward and not simply be told to go to the ER when the pipe blows. The whole idea of modern medicine is to provide the support needed to avoid the pipe blowing in the first place. The weather was normal for a change, a real August summer day, the air actually felt warm and the bugs were not biting for a change. 20C and rising.

nOur temps are rising too Buff, we are expecting 30c by next Sunday. Off with the blanket and on with the fan. Overcast again today. The rural firebrigades are having a nation wide meeting next month to discuss what sort of fire season we can expect. After three years of floods the prospects are not good. Ron.

The warm weather came to an abrupt end with a thunderstorm, and this morning the air has a definite chill in the air. The chill went through the doctor's office when I saw the surgeon. They want to remove my rectum and what was left of my colon. I don't know what to think of all of this, but its coming down to the end game. The wait time for surgery is 6 to 8 months out.

im waiting on the same surgery , had a pre op assessment over 12 months ago and no scalpel in sight yet , the annoying thing is they were going to do my gall bladder at the same time and thats causing me more problems than the rear end , anyway weather today was wonderful all day 22c and mostly cloudless skies , but then the sea fog rolled in

That is tough for both of you. I was lucky ,they found my cancer on a Tuesday and it was removed two days later. I was lucky with my gallbladder, i went into hospital on a Friday and was back at work Tuesday. Best of luck to both of you. Cool with showers today. On the news today a couple of the Haywain islands are on fire with six known deaths and scores missing. Maui was one of the worst hit islands. Ron.

Given its condition I know I will be better off without my rectum, its been leaking and bleeding for years, and poses a risk for cancer. The pains in my lower right abdomen are very bad during the night towards morning, but dissapear during the day with light activity. I cannot lift anything heavy. Not sure I can last with the long wait for surgery and may end up going to the ER if things get worse. 10C Cold, damp with a chilly breeze. summer not..

Sending hugs Buff.I know you'll be worried but trying not to be.
A nice day here 22c with a gentle breeze....meeting with Les's team went well and he's coming home Mon. 21st....I'm trying not to think to far ahead but I know what to expect,ultimately.......

Know your pain , can't wait to be a KEN DOLL , my pain is around the rear end itself , the devil's hot poker I call it .
Nicer day today some sunshine and 20C

My brother has the same problems . He has had ulcerative collitis since he was 26. he is now 79. A few years back he suffered a prolapse and they virtually had to build him a new A hole . He has not been happy since nor pain free. It is not a subject you hear much about except on boards like this. People don't want to talk about it. Warm day today and getting to 30c by Tuesday. The last report I heard from Hawaii is that the death toll from the fires is 53 and expected to rise. Ron

So far my rear end presents little in the way of pains, but it sure weeps a lot and blood mixed with mucous and I have no way of controlling the output, I have to wear diapers when its bad. The pain in my lower right quadrant comes and goes and has been more acute of late after lifting the canoe three weeks ago. Now I don't go anywhere near that canoe. I am trying to pull things together in case I have to go to the ER knowing it will lead to immediate surgery. Yesterday I got enough nerve to pull the airconditioner unit from the window. Its a gamble either way, because in a normal year August heat is typically the norm, but this year summer has been cold and wet. 9C and raining with no warmth in sight in the 12 day forecast out.

I've decided that given the seriousness of the operation a second oppinion is in order. One of my concerns was how that surgeon made generalizations saying many chrons patients have the same outcome and this is the recommended surgery option. I have always been under the assumption that no two patients needs are the same, each one is unique. My dehmidifier got weaker and weaker making me suspect it has a coolant leak. Upon checking the unit out it has no means for coolant to be refilled, the tube is soldered shut. Unfixable, now I have to buy a new unit and they are not cheap. 12C Cloudy and damp with a raw northeast wind.

Hey Bufford ,don't know if you have an ostomy or not , I'm 5 years post op for mine and they left my rear end and a section of colon in case I wanted a reconnection,
Pentasa suppositories keep the bleeding down a bit but because of a strong family history of C I would be more comfortable with the rest gone ,
Second opinions are always good ,I am lucky in having a great GI and surgeon (just not prioritised at the moment but having a scope in the near future which might speed things along ,
We are lucky here in Ireland with out health care system ,it's overworked but when you really need them they are there for you ,hope you get sorted soon
Warm 21c ,windy and dull

a warm 20c with a light breeze.Waiting for a taxi to visit my darling....,stomach not well so don't want to risk the bus.I have a gastro phone call tomorrow so hope to sort something out quick as Les coming home next Monday 21st.They are sorting his care package out during the week......

I am in a similar situation, with a colostomy bag going back for 22 years now, and use mesalamine enemas to keep inflammation down in the rectal area. I'd like to get rid of the rectum for the same reasons. Living with the plumbing as it is poses many challenges and a sense of humor goes a long ways. The colostomy bag is a strategic weapon of mass destruction. When people get rude blocking off access obsessed with their phones, I can clear out the way in no time with a strategic release of gas.(y)

I have read many debates on the pros and cons of ostomies over the years over the years Buff but your approach is one of the best I have read. I produce plenty of gas but have never been game to weaponize it due to the considerable probability of follow thru. 29 c here today. Maui death toll from the wildfires now over 900,terrible tragedy, Ron.

15c grey and raining. Scott's back in Australia and I'm close to tears and lonely.Hopefully I'll buck up when Les is home a week today, or be to busy to be upset more like. Have written a list for my gastro phone call BUT things being as they are there's no way I'm going to hospital.Had a scope in December and not in a hurry for another.

When Les is home, loneliness should be in the rear view mirror, and both of you can go on with your lives. Loneliness is standard around here. It was never an issue until after retirement, the small crew I worked with was like a family. I moved another two loads of wood yesterday and the pile is growing and giving me a sense of confidence for the winter ahead. 15C with sunshine.

Thanks guys.I know you're there for me.I feel optimistic as he's loads better, maybe it's the meds, but hey,I'll take anything while it lasts.
IBD nurse is sending test kits.I've to do two, one for inflammation and another for leaky gall bladder.
Got soaked on way back from visiting Les.I had me brolly so hair kept dry but my feet were drenched. It didn't help that the traffic took great delight in sprayng me on the way past the buggers.

Maybe the rain will be a sign of good fortune, a sign that it can only get better. I took a day off from moving wood, I had to anyways while waiting for the enema, and it did not disappoint. I changed the oil and filter on the ATV and called it a day.

It was so hot last night I had to put the fan on. It is crazy there is snow falling on the southern alps in NSW and Victoria and we are getting daytime temps of 29c. cooler with some showers today. I have an appointment with the occupational therapist today. Ron

Very smokey today, one can taste it, like burned softwoods from the fires in Alberta. I go see the therapist for my wrist, hopefully they wont cancel it without notifying me like last time. The air is clammy, I will pick up the new dehumidifier. 15C smokey and humid.

I hope you're safe Buff, please don't be a hero......I posted a message a couple of days ago but on the wrong thread, not that there's anything wrong with "LAST ONE WINS" of course, there are some nice people on there.

Heavy rain during the night but dry now although the breeze is clouding over the sun..19c.
The whole world seems to be in the grip of worrying weather...I think "they've" left it to late to make things right and the damage is already done. Buff, please say something we're starting to worry.

I'm still here, but the room was empty for the last few days. I got an appointment for an MRI with GAD gadolinium. I am concerned about the negative side effects of GAD. My kidney function is on the lower end of the normal limit which makes me heisitant of taking the GAD. I also went to see the neurologist who diagnosed my wrist with carpal tunnel. Its moderate and was told I will need surgery at some point. While I have been wearing the splint it just gets in the way of everything. I brought home the dehumidifier and found relief with in a few hours of it running. My post nasal drip has improved and the house is much more comfortable.

Humans are the only species that would cut down trees.make paper out of them and then write "save the trees " on it

Glad to see you both ok .I was wondering how Chris was doing in B.C.

19c and breezy.it's hard to know what the weather's going to do today as it keeps clouding over....but Les is back home tomorrow....yippee !!! I think

Good to hear that Les is coming home, Les will enjoy and appreciate the peace and quiet of home after many weeks in that noisy hospital. Yesterday was a nice summer day, so I did nothing and simply enjoyed the moment of the day. Today it looks like a day for moving more firewood.

20c and breezy after a warm night....we've had a nice "first day" home,,,a short walk to the corner shop then a short walk to the park before lunch. He really enjoyed lunch cooked by my own fair hand .Hospital food was "crap" and he's lost about 10 kilos...... Maybe they think people with dementia don't notice what the food's like.....

cool mornings but warm days. I go to bed with the fan on because it is warm then wake up cold by 2.30am . I am glad that Les is home Carol. I have no doubt you will fatten him up. Hugs Ron. Quiet is good Buff. Ron.

Being that long in the hospital Les must be relieved to be home with peace and quiet, dignity and good food which are lacking at these noisy hospitals. Now his real healing can begin. Its been two weeks since I pulled the airconditioner, and I didn't miss it with the constant cold wet conditions. It looks, feels and smells like fall. With everything so soggy the leaves are yellowing, while they continue to cook in British Columbia.

19c and ok.IBD nurse rang with my results and my levels are sky high, his words not mine.I told him that I knew I wasn't well.I haven't been since my last scope in December, although I was "normal" for a week or two.Told him I'm not going anywhere and just to prescribe a short dose of steroids to see if they do the trick.BUT it's a holiday weekend and I can't collect from the hospital pharmacy until Tuesday....hey-ho,what's a few more days.

Hang in there Carol, for all purposes I should have been dead by now from the diagnosis reports from the doctor over the years, but life goes on like a rough road. More unrelenting rains, glad I have the better part of the winter's wood supply stored under the tarp. Good day to hibernate.

It is a disturbing fact of life when your doctor can give you more reasons why you should be dead than why you remain alive. I am sad that we are all unwell but take a perverse pleasure in still being alive. Ron.

Lovely sunny 16c and just got a pile of washing pegged on the line and the heavens opened
Les has a carer coming at 2pm to take him out to give me a break. We get someone twice weekly for 2hrs each time.Neither of us are keen about it but understand why it must be done.I have to say the Mental Health side of health care for us has been brilliant.I have my own support team too.BUT we'd be happier if we didn't need it and I know things could go wrong again very quickly....One day at a time is all we can hope for ,which to be honest a lot of folk don't even have that eh !

Bad health forces us to do things we normally wouldn't want to do, its part of our survival coping skills and makes us all stronger for it. We are having a morning thunderstorm, more barking than bite. I need a sunny dry day to do the wash or I will have to buy more underware to get me through to a day dry enough to do the wash and hang it out. 15C wet with a rumble or two.

I heard a lady on the bus telling her friend that her daughter bought her a dehumidifier and her wash dried much quicker when she had to hang it indoors due to bad weather.I'm sure you said you had bought one recently.I thought about getting one because in winter the washing takes a couple of days to dry indoors if the heatings not on

A dehumidifier would help dry the wash, but its not as effective as hanging it outside on the line, but when there is no other alternative then why not. Today we finally are getting a break from the rains albiet its chilly as if it were late September today. Possible frost is in the forecast for tonight. I am doing the wash this morning and will pile firewood later. 10C sunshine.

Not very good today. I have mega hayfever. It is so bad I even did a covid test but it was negative. I feel like crap but there is nothing I can do about it. Ive used enough anti-histimine and nasal spray but it does not help. Ron.

Glad I ran the wash yesterday, its gray and nothing will dry in this kind of weather today. I am hoping that with the seasons changing we will start getting some drier weather. I fear the growth of mold from the constantly wet weather and that gets my allergies going. My brake light came on in the truck, the neighbor will take a look at it, but I think it needs a brake job.

We all need a "brake" Buff eh ? 16c with sunshine and scattered clouds...washing's drying on the line and I'm watching out for a short sharp shower ,but even half dry is better than nothing....I remember when visiting Aus. the wash dried before I finished pegging out......That's the washing and not me hahaha

I got up early this morning and went over to the Hyundai. Dealer to reset the car radio after the battery post connection came off when I tried to pull the plastic guard off to charge it. They said they would have to take the dash apart t get the radio serial number and it would cost $80.00. He came back in two minutes and said it is right to go. He said that they sold the car when it was new and they had the serial number on record. No charge.Ron.

The neighbor found a leak in the rear brake line caused by vibration and pinched it off, leaving me with only front brakes. I will limp in to the shop and then pick up a rental while repairs are made as I suspect its going to need a full brake job. The old brakes owe me nothing being trouble free for 8 years. Hope your wash drys Carol, I am glad I did the wash on Friday, as its been wet ever since. This soggy cold summer gets a score of 2 stars out of 10.

Metraological (sp ?) summer will be over in a few days and yes, some xmas crap is finding it's way to the shop shelves. Why don'y they just leave last years leftovers on view and cheer us all up ? It's still August for hell's sake !!!

18c and a good drying day if I had anything to dry...Picked my script up from the hospital bloody hell,he said my inflammation levels were sky high but I've to take 8 prednisone daily ( 50mg each one) decreasing by one a week for 8 weeks....the list of side effects is horrifying but if they do the trick without finishing me off completely it'll be worth it,,,,,,,,Les was formerly discharged from the hospital today which means it's up to me now.....but we do have a care package so I'm not totally on me jacksy.....Ron have you got meds for the runny nose / eyes ? I've got steroids to share but I don't think you should risk the side effects, you've got enough on your plate.

Not looking forward to driving with only front brakes to the shop, I will take it slow over the long hills. Its cold and wet, I don't recall such a lousy summer since 2015. The entire eastern half of the country never had any summer weather. I don't doubt that hayfever can be a killer, I recall worrying about sneezing and coughing so hard that it may stop my heart

Take care driving Buff. It is no fun driving without brakes . I ruptured a front brake hydraulic line going to a job on the coast in my diesel 4wd. I went the last three miles to the brake repair centre on gears and hand brake. Scared ten months growth out of me. Carol I was on 75mg of prednisone a day for a little over two years. It was for a kidney disease that was wrongly diagnosed as Minimal change disease. It was actually an auto immune disease of unknown type. The steroids nearly killed me and I was just about ready to kill anyone who looked at me the wrong way. It took ages to taper off the pred and i vowed I would never take it again. I take phenerghan tablets two to three times a day and use nasonex nasal spray three times. The phenerghan is a strong antihistamine. They both hardly give me any relief from the sneezing and runny nose plus I am using ventolin every day for asthma. Stay well everyone,Hugs ron.

It's only an 8wk tapering course (1 per week) and I will keep an eye on myself for side effects.....Feel better soon Ron and take care Buff, but you don't need a none driver reminding you.
Fine start but cloudy now...Social care is over an hour late....and so it begins !!!

I brought the truck in without any issue, traffic was light and I went slow and easy. Its an automatic, unlike a standard where one can gear down, an automatic will just keep on rolling offering little options other than the parking brake, hold on tight and enjoy the ride. Now I am waiting for the phone call from the shop. Last night it went down close to the freezing mark.

27c in town today. Getting hard to know how to dress. The way things here I can just about throw all my jumpers away. I am slowly getting on top of the hayfever. Everyday on the news there is an article about how severe the allergies are at the moment.Ron.

16c cloudy and calm.Temps rising into the 20s+ tomorrow and into next week.
I want to put my summer gear away for the next 6-8 months, really looking forward to sweaters and winter jackets. Scott brought me some UGG boots, bless him....He's going camping this weekend and says it's "a bit damp" but he'll enjoy it round the fire with a few tinnies

The truck has new brakes to the tune of $2,000. I knew the bill would be heavy, but not this much, but its done and the truck may out live me and then the nephew can have it. We are going to have a heat wave over the weekend, and with the airconditioner removed it may become interesting. But given how cold the lakes and waterways are along with the lengthening nights we may not get that hot. It was a gamble either way to pull the airconditioner so early.

As Les would say " HOW MUCH"!! But you're right Buff ,it has to be done.
20c and rising to mid 20s by Tues,,,,, damn it !!! But it won't last...wrong time of year

When you do squats guys, are your knees supposed to sound like a goat chewing on a tin can stuffed with celery ???

Asking for a friend...

We are in for 3 days of hot summer beach weather, so my bones will sound like that goat chewing on the celery when I stuff the airconditioner back into the window. I am going to just stuff it in without removing the heavy window pane with minimal fuss since the biting flies have tapered off and I am only using it for a few days. The first real warmth since the end of June, and we need to dry out.

When I do squats I have an accident that sounds nothing like a goat chewing celery and smells worse than a goat. We will be hitting 28c by thursday and the fire danger is at critical. The weather bureau is using terms that are really starting to scare a lot of people. They are saying we will have catastrophic bushfire conditions and little rain until the end of summer. Ron.

23c and no breeze. We had a walk down to the market to do the half we missed last Sunday...NOT a good idea as of course we knew it wouldn't be....rammed with folk and kids and dogs " enjoyng"???? the sun before the little darlings go back to school tomorrow after the summer break, It being a Victorian railway station it has a glass roof and no shade,so as you can imagine I REALLY had a great time but I'm not whinging....

With less than a meter to move the airconditoner from the counter top and into the window, it was no big deal and it made for a comfortable cool house on a hot late summer day. I simply used some loo roll to fill the gaps as the biting flies have tapered off. Its actually nice to be outside now without getting drilled. We reached 30 C for a change and we may get another two before it becomes nothing more than a distant memory.

Warm today with hot northerly winds. They are forecasting catastrophic fire danger for a large part of the hinter land behind the SE coast. It won't be bushfires but grassfires which move much quicker and are considered more dangerous. We are also in line for more storms. Ron.

another warm day with cloudless skies. It's good to wash through a few t-shirts in the sink and know they're going to dry.It was a warm night and I slept on top of the covers dreaming of the fur throws we use in the winter .........

It went up to 30C yesterday, I took it easy relaxing and couldn't help but notice how quiet it has been for a long weekend. Usually people are out and about on their ATVs and boats. Maybe its the sky high cost of fuel. Its going to be another warm day before it comes to an end.

6-15pm and a very warm muggy eve.Just had a cool bath....T.M.Info I know, but needs must..It didn't do any good, the sweat it dripping onto the keyboard as I tap.Forecast has just cheered me up,no end.More to come for the rest of the week.....but I'm not whinging, really I'm not Ron

It was a warm one, and the heat went into the night, its no problem when I can keep the house comfortable with the airconditioner, it makes the difference between comfort and misery. Without it I bloat up, sweat and feel like a heart attack coming on and life becomes unbearable. After today, the weather will turn cold and wet and the summer heat will be a distant memory.

I am already finding it necessary to have a fan on in the bedroom every night and it is only the first week of spring. Storms possible this afternoon . Ron.

Same as yesterday, bloody awful.....it was really bad for sleeping last night, so I didn't.......probably won't for a few more nights.
BUT I don't have to get up for work or look after the grandkids, just sit here and look forward to crisp frosty days....

The late summer hot day came to an abrupt end in the evening with a light show of a thunderstorm followed by a power outage, so the generator got a good run. 30C yesterday, and only 13C with rain today. The forecast is very fall like going forward. I used the airconditioner more in the past four days than I did for the entire summer. While the house was comfortable, the pains kept me up for most of the night.

Oh wow you lucky man.,,,,really humid and misty, and they're saying the mistiness is down to sand from the Sahara moving up this way..... There's a dustiness on the car roofs and bonnets.23c-25c expected on Saturday.

I had my fill of ice ,sleet, snow and frost when I lived in Canberra for ten years. I want to live in early spring forever. Ron.

Cooler this week with some showers. Severe fire conditions in the Northern territory with fires threatening Tennant creek. The wildlife is getting a bit angry at the moment . A man in central NSW had his leg removed by a great white last week and two men were bitten by the same eastern brown snake in Mackay central Qld this week . The first man had the snake wrapped around his leg and was bitten , a second man went to his aid and was bitten on the chest and arm. Unfortunately he died. the first man was taken to hospital and survived. Ron.

If there's a God can I say thank you for the drop in temperature ? I was just about at the end of my rope this last week +. 15c and cloudy today, lovely weather....

Ron & Buff...I hope you're both OK,the silence is deafening !!!
18c with cloud cover and they're threatening ANOTHER heat wave....NOT happy I can tell you

I have been called many things Carol but rarely silent :) .Very warm nights lately are making sleeping difficult combined with the worst hayfever season that I can remember. The newer hayfever non drowsy medications just don't work for me and the powerful antihistamines I take wipe me out. I am seeing the doctor next week but all they are good for is renewing scripts. He can't help the hayfever, he can't help with the pain, for over twelve months I have been asking for an endoscopy . I find more and more foods I can't swallow, they just get stuck in my throat and if i try to wash them down with water I nearly drown or choke . Not a very happy Ron. I hope you get some cool weather soon, Ron.

12c damp and drizzly and if I wasn't on the prednisone I would be sleeping like the proverbial......I told the gastro and he said "keep taking the tablets" as they're working, but another 5wks reducing to go. I'm wrecked to tell the truth.I've had about 6hrs in over 48.
Wonder if Buff's OK ?
