What is YOUR weather like today??

We are very mountainous here. The weather can be wild. A large valley between the Rocky mountain and the Purcell mountain ranges. the Columbia Valley.
have a good one everybody!

Lol, I had it stuck in my head just the Vacouver Island part of BC, not the rest of the vast territory including the Rocky Mountains, etc. (which goes into Utah too). Of course, Vancouver Island isn't exactly flat, but most of the populus are at lower elevations there. And, of, course, the city of Vancouver is near sea level. I think I had Vancouver Island only stuck in my head (besides the fact that I am ditzy) because in my early teens, my family went on a road trip there to some remote northern part of the island (had to fairy the vehicle and trailer across obviously) to some caves so my dad could participate in an International "cavers convention." My dad was very involved with the US National Spelunkers Association (he was Utah chapter president for a lot of years) and we went on a lot of caving/camping trips, where families camped and the spelunkers explored the caves. I loved BC! Some day I'd like to explore more of Canada, including Banff National Park, etc. My sister tradtionally explores the west coast of the US then travels into BC every year with a large 5th wheel travel trailer, taking about a month to do so, I'm so jealous! But I can't imagine what it must be like in winter so far north. We know how the valleys and mountains create interesting weather.

Pics from inside car to ride to canyons to look for wildlife. Mountain behind snow berm (from snow plow) is where part of 2002 winter Olympics were held (Snow Basin Resort). Phone booth was from gas station in small town of Huntsville by Pineview Lake. (Does anyone even use phone booths anymore?)

Thanks Ron. The quality of pics aren't very good because first of all the pics are from a cell phone (and except for the phone booth) in a moving car, and second I had to shrink the pictures or they would take half of the page. It always diminishes the quality.

Our temps also rising. Expecting 34-5c by Thursday and no sign of cool changes. Marine scientists believe the rise in water temps may be allowing some of the northern jelly fish known as sea wasps or box jellyfish to move south. There have been several incidents of people stung at Frazer island , Noosa and Moooloolaba by what were thought to be Irukandji a small form of box jellyfish. Typical of Australian creatures the box jellyfish has what is believed to be the most lethal venom of any creature in the world. I guess I just gave up swimming. Ron.

Rain, dull but not too cold though.
that is some snow, Sandy.
Do you actually walk the dog or does it walk you, Ronroush?
Box jellyfish? I must google image them. But keep them there and keep away from them too, Ron50.

Wow I would stick to the swimming pool.

Hey all,

weather here is overcast and -8 or so. Not the best but far from the worst!

Have a good day everyone,:thumleft:

SandyUte,

Wow! That's a lot of snow! I like the picture of the phone booth! Beautiful area you come from.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I enjoyed them.

All the best,

cmack

Interesting creatures Dianne. The box jellyfish are delicate creatures , easily damaged but they eat fish so it would not take a very big fish to damage them . That is why the venom is so potent, it kills instantly. Our problem with the box jellies is that they are virtually invisible and most of the irukandjis the body is only the size of a grape. Another very hot humid day. I would be happy to use that phone booth at the moment Sandy. Ron.

I wish I could ship you some of that snow, Ron. The pics from yesterday are a little heavier in snow for those areas than normal, and more snow than we have at our house, though we have had our fair share this winter. The areas of the pics are at an even higher elevation than us, but not far. Today we would be seeing some sun if it weren't so hazy from the inversion, which is only going to get worse over the next week. (No more snow expected at present.)

I think I'm even more afraid of swimming in the ocean now, by the way. Jelly fish, sharks and undertoes, oh my!

6c.and sunny.I actually got some washing dried outdoors.

Managed a cycle along the coast too.Blew the cobwebs away, that's for sure.

33c today, very restless last night. Just too hot to sleep and no relief in sight. Weather forecasters said we may be in for another heat wave. Really? Stick your heads outside your airconditioned office fellas. Ron.

cmack, I wish I could send you some of our wood pile as we aren't allowed to have wood burning fires in our fireplaces when we have an inversion and air quality is bad unless it is our primary source of heat. That is pretty much all of winter except when it is snowing. All I can say about our air right now is you are not supposed to be able to see it...
Ron50, too bad you're being such a cool guy doesn't cool the air. Ronrousch7, I'm jealous!

Hey Sandy,

Big, Big, thumbs up for the post:thumleft:

I agree with the whole darn thing. Thanks I wood take you up on the offer if it was possible. See what I did there?

all the best and then some my friend,

cmack

33c today , 34c tomorrow then at least another two weeks of 33c's . The weather pattern causing it is a big low pressure system stalled over central northern New South Wales. The prevailing winds from it are from the north west bringing hot humid winds but no rain from the monsoon. The north of Queensland has nearly been washed away with many areas recording up to half a metre of rain in the last week. It is practice to build something big in areas of Australia to highlight what they are noted for. Where I live we have the big pineapple up north at Tulley they have the giant gumboot. It is about the only practical footwear in that area when the monsoon trough is in full swing. Down south we are in drought, if only we could wring the humidity out of the air! Ron.

8c and not a bad day.Storm Doris is on the way from the Atlantic followed by a minus 10c cold spell.Looking at the charts there's a chance that it will miss us here in the North East.
Most of last winters bad weather missed us,so here's hoping.

Hope it misses you.

We've got nothing to moan about really, compared to other parts of the world.
Look at cmacks -20 and poor Rons 33c heat, and the floods, quakes and mud slides etc.
No,nothing to moan about at all.But us Brits are well known to be weather whingers.

Wet and windy but about to get worse, apparently.
-20C is too cold. i'd be as frozen as a mammoth.
Welcome, Jane.
I'd like 33C Ron. I just need good warm weather. No chance here in Britain. Carol, I am whinging about the weather. But it's what we Brits do best lol.

Hey all,

I hope you are all feeling good today,

-23c here.... back to the incredible shrinking wood pile I guess. Oh well I have to feed my little birdies anyways. Boy do those little suckers eat oil seeds fast when it gets cold. Brrrrrr poor little birds stuck outside.

cmack

I make bird cakes for our wild birds. We have a Victorian park just over the road so we get a good variety. In the spring when the fledglings are finding their wings, there is all out war over the food.Very entertaining. But at this time of year they seem to come to the feeder in shifts and are mostly very good at waiting their turn.

Mild 11c today but grey skies.

Same here scottsma they just patiently wait in line.

Just got back from the wood pile.
FUGLY! there are more spiders than wood in the pile now! They are false widow's. Ten on just one piece. And they are still alive too! Antifreeze for blood? Nasty when they bite, it hurts like a hornet sting but they are otherwise harmless. Totally disgusting though. I hope the birds eat them all.

cmack

It is beautiful outside right now. The haze has left, we had a little bit of rain this morning off and on which cleared out the air. There are low-lying clouds hugging the mountains and the air is clean and crisp and warmer than it has been in a long time. I could live with it like this forever.

looks delightful Sandy and wonderfully cool. We had another bushfire here on the coast yesterday, it was still being monitored last night and residents were warned that they may have to leave with little notice.
Spiders are not my favourite creatures Cmack. We have three nasty ones over here . The redback which is like your black widow , not usually deadly but may require anti-venine if you are very young , old or sick. The white tailed spider which is very nasty . It's bite causes necrosis and victims often don't realise what has bitten them until they develop a large open ulcer that can take months to heal and may even in severe cases require an amputation. By far the worst Australian spider is the Sydney funnel web. It has killed quite a few people. The health department issued a warning for them last month telling people that they were very active with the heat and humidity. They also warned that anti venom stocks were low , apparently there are far less people handing in specimens to the wild life park that milks them to make the anti venom. Hard to understand why less people are attempting to catch one of the worlds deadliest spiders.
Still hot and humid and no rain. Ron.

Ron,

Ya bud, spiders are not my best friend either. We have hobo spiders here and they cause necrosis as well. We also have the brown recluse..same deal necrosis. May the army of chickadees eat every last one of em.

All the best, hope you cope with all the humidity. And may the fires go around you and be put out. I was firefighter back in the day. I wish i was there to lend a hand.

your buddy,

cmack

Ewwww, spiders! I hate them too. We have hobos, wolf spiders, brown recluse, and black widows. The black widows both fascinate me and give me the creeps. When I had a spider bite that didn't heal for months from a common generally considered non-poisonous garden spider (took a sample of what bit me to some experts), I grew a healthier respect for poisonous spiders. I was also advised not to spray for spiders because it could make spider problems worse by killing the competition. Ewwww, ewwww ewwww, that's all I can say. Glad we don't have the funnel spider here.

Same here.Lots of sunshine and blue skies and 9c.I keep seeing threats in the paper/on-line of doom and gloom to come soon, well bring it on !!!! It's not to long until spring now.

Sunny and no wind or rain.... yet.
Spiders, argh! We have the false widows too. Nothing overly lethal.
Hope the fires are out soon Ron50, and autumn is on its way.
Lovely picture, Sandy. Great scenery.

1130 pm Friday night my thermometer at my puter is still on 33c and the sweat is dripping off me. The low and trough over mid NSW and QLD has not moved so we can expect at least a week more of the same. No rain in sight just northerly wind , heat and fire. I sat for so long in the shopping mall on Thursday night the security guys were starting to take an interest in me. Ron.

5c blue skies and sunny........is there no end to this winter ???

Storm Doris decided not to make an appearance.Well she poked her nose in the door down south and turned tail. But there are still threats of bad weather to come....maybe.

Covered in heat rash, too hot to do anything. My mate sent me an email explaining that it really isn't that hot. Apparently in 1828 we recorded our hottest day at 53.9c and in Jan 1896 the eastern states recorded 24 days straight of 39c or higher. That heatwave claimed the lives of 437 people . Supposedly we love our suburned country but I for one would love it just as much if it was occasionally cold wet and cloudy. Ron.

Hello all,

4'' of snow and -15c here. That's an improvement. Hope your weather stays above zero and no storms scottsma. Ron, hope you keep drinking lot's of water. That's unreal how hot your climate can get. My goodness.

Have a good day everybody,

cmack

A 7c improvement, CMack, sounds good when it was so much lower. I can shiver just thinking about it. Ron50, thank God you weren't alive back then.

And for me here in Northamptonshire, it's been really sunny, lots of snowdrops out now and I even have a daff with a head developed. We've had no Doris day here lol.

I feel embarrassed......there's a "weather warning" out for a few centimetres of snow above 200 metres. hahaha.Better get the snow shoes and chains ready.

I'm so glad we haven't had to shovel for a few days. I found out that we have officially had the snowiest winter on record, which surprised me, but just a tad. If it weren't for the partly cloudy and partly hazy aspects, today would be a beautiful day for this time of year. A balmy 44°f right now.

6c,grey and no wind...I'm going to stop posting on here our weather is sooo boring!!!

But I'm a Brit. and a proud weather whinger...

Honestly Ron,I'm really looking forward to a post from you that says "I needed to put my top coat and woolly hat on today"........or the equivalent.

Hi all,

scottstma I enjoy hearing about your weather.

-10c here still snowing, looks like about as much as yesterday.

Definitely going to get some exercise.

I hope today finds you all well,

cmack

Hey all,

More snow here 6-7'' -12c I'll be back when I'm done shoveling. Just popped a Flexeril as it is getting hard on the back. Hope everyone is well.

All the best to you folks,

cmack

Hello Ladies and Gents alike,

Between Dad and I, we put in 8-9 hours of snow removal (still needs more) Still snowing........ -10c

fun fun fun! (good workout though)!!!!!!

cmack

It is not raining here. The local weather forecaster on the news tonight said to give up hope of the temps falling in the foreseeable future. He said the sea temps are way too high and even the normally cooling southeasterly winds are travelling over hot ocean water and will provide no relief. It is our wet season and we have had no rain so far this year. Everything is turning a dusty shade of brown , including yours truly.... Ron.

Ron50,

Hang in there buddy. It has to get better sometime soon. Maybe go to the mall again. See if the mall cops get ya for theft of free air conditioning!

Hi all,

-14c but less snow.......so far. If we get any more we have nowhere to shovel it as the snow banks are as tall as me 6'1'' and some taller 8' or so

Hope you all have a great day,

cmack

Ron,we watch "Outback Truckers" every day. It's fascinating...... the dusty corrugated roads, the flooded roads, the bush fires etc.We really enjoy it,but that's because we're safely on the sofa.We also enjoy Police Force.Australia for the same reason. hahaha.

The sun came out later in the morning and temp.got up to 8c. They're still threatening snow but I think they've got the wrong specs' on

Bit chillier today and very grey out there.
Still a tad too cold for me CMack.
Ron50 I'd prefer that weather. I don't know how you can put up with it. Do you still work? is there air conditioning there? I feel for you. None of your diseases will kill you Ron, it will be the weather, i'm sure. Stay safe.

-24c May be a bit cool for me. I can't feel my feet or legs so I'd probably lose some toes.
Still working ,harder than ever. No air con at work or at home. woke up to a light shower of rain ,that just means it will be a steamy day. It is going to be hard to make it thru the weekend. 35c Sat, 37c Sun and 37c Monday Ron.

In NJ it was 63 degrees and beautiful this afternoon but is supposed to drop overnight. We are expecting up to 10 inches of snow by noon tomorrow. Crazy weather...fingers crossed for a snow day!

Tired of hiding from the weather, I'll put the boat in after lunch tomorrow and fish into the night. They said it is only getting down to 27c overnight for the next couple of nights so it really won't be much cooler but at least I can annoy a few fish. Ron.

Snowing heavily and forecast to go into the evening. High winds later on as well. Suppose to drop a foot plus before it is over. We got close to that two days ago. At least this storm is supposed to stay snow and not turn to sleet or rain. A balmy 17F at present and-15F tonight with the wind chill.

A day to sit by the wood stove.

Same here Dave.
Snowing like crazy -14c except ours may turn to slushy muck tomorrow. Hope the weather man gets it wrong as usual. It is only supposed to be-3 right now so I'm pretty sure they have the forecast all buggered up.

Hope today finds you all relatively well,

cmack

Welcome, Jersey Girl. Great to have you along.
Cold, grey and those clouds look like they could drop a dusting of snow. None as yet though. Us Brits have nothing to whinge about really. stay safe all.

Still snowing like crazy and the wind has picked up. 14F,wind chill closer to 0F or lower. Suppose to be sunny tomorrow and it will look beautiful. I'll keep that thought as I deal with the cleanup and mutter very forum inappropriate opinions on the beauty of snow.

Isn't it so very F@(*ing lovely light and fluffy? Sort of like that eh Dave! Oh the joys of copious amounts of the white stuff. I hear ya bud she is coming down like crazy here too. An inch an hour easily.

I haven't been on this thread for awhile, found my schedule busier than I like lately, and my, the extremes everyone has to deal with! We warmed up, quite a bit, it got to 66°F today (almost a record for this date), but we continue to receive intermittent moisture, just not in snow form any more. At least we don't have to deal with shoveling now! The trade off is that all the snow has melted and saturated the ground and with the extra moisture after a lot of drought years, now nearby rivers are flooding and reservoirs can't hold what they are supposed to. It's only the small reservoirs, but the large ones will take years to fill up. Wouldn't it be nice to have weather "on demand?"

I almost don't like to mention this to those in the US, but we have the finest of fine snowflakes flurrying about at the moment. No need for a teaspoon let alone a shovel, lol. Tis cold mind. No sign of summer yet ;)

All of the eastern Australian states except Tasmania have been gazetted as catastrophic fire danger for tomorrow. That is the highest alert we have . Many areas in Qld and NSW topped 40c today. The highest was 43c in both states. Tomorrow is forecast to be several c hotter. Where I live we are expecting 37c or worse. Lots of cold showers. Ron.
