What is YOUR weather like today??

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

Colder than normal the past couple days, high of 25°f yesterday and only 12°f today, but sunny. Will be warmer and maybe some rain and/or snow over the the next week. Get to have a lung function test tomorrow, which I will be glad to have results of before our usual winter inversion kicks in. (It's hard on the asthma.) I was just telling some people on another thread (some of which are here too so sorry for the repeat), about an area in Utah called "Peter Sink," a naturally occurring large sink hole which is known to be one of the coldest areas in the lower 48 (US) states. Yesterday it got as low as minus 46°f! It is somewhat of an anomaly as the temps at the bottom of the mile long area compared to air above its rim can be as much as 70°f difference, because cold air gets trapped in the bowl shaped area, but the warmer air rises and can dissipate into the rest of the atmosphere once out of the bowl. It has the distinction of having the second-lowest recorded temperature in the lower 48 states at -69°f below zero. In southern Utah, the town of St. George holds record highs for our state at 117°f. Quite the contrast.

Wow

I would settle for that Carol. We had another day over 32c with 75% humidity. They predicted storms but we got high clouds which hindered their formation. We have all had enough of storms here , four people were taken to hospital on the Gold coast yesterday after their house was struck by lightning. They were shaken but not seriously injured. Ron.

It must be very stressful Ron,not knowing what the weather's going to do next. And of course that won't do your health any good at all.Brits who emigrate out there do it primarily for the "weather".....They've got to be kidding !!!

The sun's out now, lots of blue sky and a comfortable 12c.

The storms that were not going to form because of high cloud formed anyway and nearly blew me out of bed around 11pm last night. My flat is at the base of an old volcanic plug called panorama. It is covered in tall trees and is a lightning magnet. I don't like it when the flash and the bang come togeather . Had several of those at the height of the storm. Ron.

Oooh, I don't like those either, Ron. I'll send you some snow that is just starting right now, should last overnight (it's 5:30 pm here at present.)

We are at the southern end of Australia in Melbourne. We it beautiful 15C, our coldest December day in 3 years.

Our forecast for the next 7 days are.
Sat 19C, Sun 22, Mon 31, Tue 33, Wed 18, Thurs 18, Fri 23

It doesn't feel like summer.

Well,Weather Whingers,it's a while since the last post. Not much happening here. It's colder but bearable, although there is a storm coming Fri/Sat.Today is the shortest day,Diane will be pleased to know.I just wanted to wish you all well, and hope you're at a temperature that's comfortable for you.Have a Happy Christmas if,unlike me,you celebrate it.Be well and be content.

hello fellow whingers , lovely morning here in Cobh , my wife went in for her daily swim in the harbour and came out to sunshine , the afternoon was a lot cooler with a sea mist trying to come in , at the moment its cold and miserable .

Nothing much has changed down under. We are still getting wild damaging storms in SE Qld . It is hot over on the west coast , 41c in Perth with the first cyclone for the season formed off the Pilbarra. Hobart in Tasmania had a snow storm this week . Melbourne , as usual ,20c one day 30c the next. We had a storm last night and they are forecast all day today. I am up to my ears in work , as usual, including school machines so I won't get much time off. I hope you have not turned into a popsicle with your blizzards Sandy. Wishing you all a healthy Christmas > Ron.

Well it's Christmas morning, I looked out the window and everything is covered in snow... Then I woke up, it was such a nice dream. It is a cool day for the coast with storms forecast from 11am. Adelaide at 40c is expecting their hottest Christmas day in 70 years. Port headland in WA is expecting an unwelcome visitor in the form of a cyclone.
Wishing all of you the happiest Christmas that your health and circumstances will allow and a much healthier new year, Hugs to all ,Ron.

Hot here down on the coast of Victoria, too, and even hotter tomorrow with nasty northerly winds.

Have a happy Christmas everyone with no unpleasant post- Christmas consequences!

Best wishes and keep safe and well Ron and Susan and all of you.
It's 13c here which is unusual for this time of year.We were hoping to go cycling but it's very blustery,we might give it a try though.

Well, it's been a nice fairly sunny day today. Didn't venture out as I've eaten a few naughties and i'm paying the price and paying more than a penny in loo visits, lol.

Merry Christmas all of you.

We are at the end of Christmas day here when a lot of you are into the day after Christmas. We had the second snowiest Christmas in Utah in record. It was lovely to look at, a little nerve wracking as we drove my brother home (about 30 miles away) in it. But we are all safe and warm.
I will whine about health tho. I wish I could stop coughing since my lung function study I had awhile back, it aggravated the asthma, and the wheezing and coughing led to an upper respiratory infection and pluerisy. I did have a five day course of prednisone for it, but will have to go back. And recent heart med changes have left my heart racing too much, but they are supposed to be better for heart/lung condition I recently found I have. To top things off, an Rx to keep my tummy calm ran out a few days ago, and my GI is out of town so can't refill it until later this week when he is back. Too many urgent trips to the bathroom, which makes heart race more. At least I'm not in the hospital on Christmas like I was five years ago.
Ok, whine over.

Yesterday was the warmest Xmas day on record at 15c....Mad !!
So far today it's 3c,bright and sunny, but very windy. No cycling again.

Sorry about my long rant above, I should know not to post in the middle of the night.
Today is cold, but sunny.

The remnants of the WA cyclone flooded Ayres rock today, they had to close most of the tourist tracks due to dangerous conditions. It was hot and sticky here today and gradually building to 33c on sat with high humidity. I am sort of glad I am working as there are swarms of tourist everywhere. Ron.

Snow is starting to fall.....expecting anywhere from 1-5 inches depending on which weather forecaster you listen to!

The temps on the east coast of Australia are starting to rise. During the week the equivalent of a tropical storm hit South Australia. It caused flooding in the north of the state around Ayres rock and caused a lot of distress in the south. Hundreds of power cables were brought down by high winds and falling trees. A lot of the states residents are still without power days after the storm. The front continued on into Victoria resulting in some wild storms and flash flooding in Melbourne. Meanwhile Sydney has had record high temps with the western suburbs nudging 42c. We are expecting 33c tomorrow and heavy rain on new years day. Ron.

It was cold today, with clear blue skies. Pic taken from ride to mountains.

Happy new year to all. None of the predicted rain so far, still very hot. 32c today. Been working all week ,at it again today. 26 machines down only 12 to go , hope I can get a break in then, hugs to all Ron.

Happy New Year Ron and better health :thumleft:

You do know that you're supposed to start the new year as you mean to end it,don't you ? :lol2:

1c early on and has reached a balmy 2c this afternoon. But the sun is shining in a cloudless blue sky,no complaints.

I haven't been able to get on for a few days. Keep getting a database error.
Very hot and humid here, it was 37 in Perth yesterday so we can expect
more hot weather in a few days. The monsoon has become really active with
quite a few lows up north. Back to work today, just joking, I never stopped.
It is supposed to be raining heavily but so far hardly a drop. just overcast
. Ron.

Not so hot tomorrow ,around 26c but very humid. Rain predicted again but still not
happening.Ron.

I'm not getting notice of new postings in this or any other of my subscribed threads. Is this happening (or not happening) to anyone else?

We've all had problems on other threads too Susan.Something to do with the data base and a new server.A few posts have been disappearing too.

We have had a couple of days of light rain , more expected tomorrow. Still too hot.. ron

The heat is killing me (and quite a few others) . Large areas of NSW and Queensland are expecting temps over 40c for the next couple of days and with hot strong northerly winds there is a total fire ban everywhere. We are watching Antarctica with interest to see if part of the ice shelf is going to break away to form probably the largest iceberg in recorded history. Ron.

I had a terrible day yesterday , between the heat and the humidity , all I could do was sit in the lounge with two fans aimed at me. I was too sore to do much anyway as I tripped over a shoe on Friday night and bounced off the lounge chair before hitting the floor. I lay there for at least ten minutes testing all the bits and pieces before I tried getting up. There were no sharp pains fortunately but I have jarred my spine hips and right shoulder. Might have to see about getting training wheels. Ron.

Ah Ron,talk about kicking a man when he's down !!! Just what you don't need eh.?
If I was your ma I'd tell you to "put you stuff away" but I'm not so I won't.As for the heat, well I've heard it said the Australia is "God's own country"......more like Hell in high summer if you ask me.
It's warmer here than the 2c of yesterday. It's cloudy so hence the balmy 6c.
Please take care Ron.I hope the temps drop soon.

Sometimes we forget how old we are and just how old and frail our ill bodies are. I don't take falls well either. I too stay down until i'm over the shock and tested myself. Stay safe Ron,,

Wet and not too cold now. No snow either, that lasted all of 2 hours. Even with the snow of the ground the sun felt warm to the skin. That's a bit unusual for January.

Supposedly we got a cool change today with heaps of rain. No rain but 32c with 80% humidity. It was sot hot ,sticky and humid it may as well have been pouring. It is 31 tomorrow and gradually climbing during the week to 35 next Saturday. Sigh ,,,, Ron.

Ron,Sandy posted this on another thread and I thought of you.
"when/if I get old (er) I'm going to scatter snacks around the floors in case I fall down" :thumright: I hope you're feeling better, and the weather is being kinder to you. It's 4c and depressingly overcast here, has been for days. But I'm just saying, not complaining.

Things are getting worse not better. We have not had a day under 30c for three weeks with unusually high humidity. Every weather report gives us the temp eg. 32 c but adds with the humidity it feels like 37 c. We have had weeks of hot northerly winds. The inevitable happened on Thursday wit a bushfire starting just north of us at Coolum . It has continued to burn out of control with many residents advised to evacuate. The showgrounds at Nambour has been opened up to allow those affected to bring their horses down so they are safe.It is expected that tenps will climb to around 35c today and possibly tomorrow but they have forecast severe storms for both afternoons. You could hardly see outside yesterday as we were blanketed with the smoke from the bushfire. Very hard to breathe. Ron.

I don't know how you can bear it.I'm assuming you're a true blue Aussie and have lived there all your life ? Do you think it's worse than when you were young, or maybe age and ill health is making it feel worse than it did when you were a nipper?
0c. blue sky and lots of low winter sun to burn the eyeballs.

I was born in Brisbane and have only lived in Australia. They reported on the news tonight that last night was the highest overnight temp since 1940 in the Brisbane region. I have a thermometer beside my puter and at 1045pm it is still 31c. My age and my health has made me far less tolerant to the heat and humidity. for the past 4 days my bp of a morning has averaged 104/62. My chemist suggested I cut my bp meds in half. The trouble is that some of my bp meds are not for bp. Diltiazem allows me to take a lower dose of cyclosporine for the same result as the normal dose. I see my nephrologist on wed and I think it is time we had a serious heart to heart about where I am heading and how soon I am going to get there. Ron.

Off topic , another anniversary, end year 19 ex stage 3c colon cancer into 6 nodes , start year 20. (and I feel every one of them ) Ron.

Not too bad here in B.C. Canada. -10c It was -30 a week ago though! You southerners are lucky. Even the wild turkeys have to stand on one foot at a time! Hey look I'm the weather man I just stuck my head out the door and had a feel of it! Hahaha.

All the best folks.

2c and depressingly grey, but on the brighter side,no rain,no wind,no snow,no ice and no fog,no bushfires, no earthquakes,no mud slides so no complaints.....

They put our bushfire out on Sunday, New Guinea had a 7.9 earthquake yesterday but it was too deep to cause a tsunami. It was a pleasant day today, only got to 28c . Some idiot drove his car through a plaza in the middle of Melbourne killing five people and injuring a lot more. It will be 32c , hot and sticky tomorrow and getting hotter. Thursday is Australia day so we can expect a lot of people to drink too much and get themselves in trouble. I sometimes wonder why I bothered surviving nearly twenty years. Before the net we wouldn't have had to watch all of this stuff as it happened. Ignorance is bliss Ron.

Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot
Whatever the weather,we'll weather the weather
Whether it's crap or not.

I learned a very slightly different version:

We'll weather the weather whatever the weather

We have had miserable weather as well, in our own Utahn way. At least the extreme cold stopped (but we never got as cold as British Columbia!) Before the last few days it's been a pretty bad inversion (cool air above trapping smog to very unhealthy levels below). The last two or three days we have had snow or rain/snow mix (but mostly snow) with white out conditions in many areas today The top pic is of an area very near this afternoon. The bottom pic is how I feel. (I'm sure you feel that way about your summer Ron.)

Ah !! no matter how I tried I couldn't remember the last line.:confused2:

Excuse my rudeness.

Grey and cold again.

Cold foggy and damp today. Tomorrow even worse. Nearly through January though, and February is a short month. Feeling slightly better about this winter now. But st5ay safe everyone.

Same as the week gone by......boring. But colder tomorrow. At least we've had no snow yet. This will be the 4th winter in succession without any snow worth a mention.

Hot and humid but happy. I saw my nephrologist today. Ten years ago I was losing around 2.8 grams of protein a day thru my urine. Over the next six or so years that went out to well over seven grams a day. I was in deep poo. Officially I was hovering between stage two and three kidney failure. I was put on cyclosporine by my brilliant English nephrologist Dr Euan Noble. He was treating me for an unknown auto immune nephrotic syndrome of the kidneys. Three kidney biopsies were unable to put a name to it. I saw him today, he was grinning from ear to ear . The amount of protein in my urine is at completely normal levels. He is going to see me in a month and if I am still good he will gradually wean me off cyclosporine. I asked him how often this happens. He said for him only twice from that level. Happy. Ron.

Great news

Hi all,

-10c this morning but warming up. Darn turkeys outside pooping all over too. Hmmm turkey pot pie anyone?

Aw I guess I better leave em alone maybe they have I.B.D.

Everything covered in ice. That happens when it is 50F and rains one day and is 23F and overcast the next.

Bloody freezing! Not -10 though, minus 3 is cold enough for me. Hopefully it will be in the range of 6 degrees tomorrow. Looking forwards to that. could do with a bright sunny spell methinks.

Yay, it looks like we finished a long line of snow storms. But boo, that means we are back to our normal awful Inversion. It is still too cold for my comfort also. It was 8°f when I left for my physical therapy this morning (-13°c). Brr. At least I don't have to scrape snow off the car everytime I want to go somewhere.

Temps still can't manage to get below 30c and 24c at night. The humidity is so high we will all be growing gills shortly . As it is we are all going mouldy , I wish I had shares in an anti perspirant manufacturer. Ron.

Hey Sandy,

That's pretty cold for Utah isn't it? My goodness! What is REALLY going on?

cmack

Yes, a little colder than normal this winter, but not unheard of (nor by any means record breaking overall, though close on a couple days). We are at a fairly high elevation, about 4,500 ft above sea level, which is a lot higher than most of the population of BC, though you are further north, of course.

We are very mountainous here. The weather can be wild. A large valley between the Rocky mountain and the Purcell mountain ranges. the Columbia Valley.
have a good one everybody!

cmack
