What is YOUR weather like today??

-26C under clear skies. I spent all afternoon digging out once again after getting another 30 cms on Thursday. Its got to the point that we are getting too much of a snowpack. It may become quite a mess in the spring, but I'll deal with that once it comes. One thing at a time.

Still too hot to trot. 33*C forecast with a 30% chance of showers, which translated into everyday terms means bugger all. Must change the water in the birdbath today, the kookaburras, Parrots, Curlews, Ibis and a host of other species are having a rugged time in the heat. Mind you, they bathe in the water, then drink it!

There are no streams, ponds, creeks or any other sources H2o on the Island so one must be kind.

You're all in the spam again! I have retrieved you though.

Lovely sunshine this morning. One daff is almost out. I cheated and bought ready flowering snowdrops that are still in bloom.

Merv, that's kind of you to give the birds what they need.

9c.bright and sunny.I agree with D., Merv. We get a lot of pleasure from watching the birds and seeing to their needs. When we had dogs I used to put hair in the trees to help at nesting time. Now we put little piles of twigs where they can get to them easily. It's the simple things in life that bring the most pleasure.

heating up for the next couple of days. The winds are ramping up from the north. I have been trying to fit in another fishing trip in the local river but I'm not going while the winds are blowing at 20 knots , I've had enough of that for a while. My hands are gradually getting better though I lost one if not two layers of skin. No infection thankfully . Ron.

Been quite a nice day today. I have a crocus out now and two daffs are about to bloom.
they say it's going to be mild for the next couple of weeks. I hope so.

Hope the hands are better soon Ron.

C, i often put the fluff from the tumble dryer out for the birds and hedgies. I think i might put twigs out like you though.

Reminds me of the time years ago I looked into a noisy busy nest of robins full of little ones hatching. The nest was lined in gray hair, then it occurred to me that the robin must have collected the hair I tossed away from my hairbrush.
Since then I give away all my head and beard hair to the birds and critters to use for nest building instead of disposing in the garbage.

I had a bit of a break. Weather for the past month has been pretty horrid. We've had wind chills of -50 which I've never seen before. A few snow storms. It took days before my sidewalk finally was plowed yesterday, after 30 cm of blowing snow. Currently it's -12C and looks like things will be normal for a bit. I've been staying indoors and using my treadmill instead of risking my neck, or hip out there.

Appreciably cooler today, still around 30*C, but tempered by a brisk SE wind (25-30 Knts) and overcast grey skies. Last night it was over 30 degrees in the early hours of the morning!

More windy conditions forecast which, hopefully, will ground the mosquitoes and damned sand flies.

11c and sunny. It was really warm in the shops and uncomfortable, but not nearly as uncomfortable as Merv and Ron have to put up with. But positively tropical for Tuff and our Canadian friends.

An unnatural 15c+ today. It would have been a great cycling day if not for the pedestrians wandering willy nilly all across the shared cycling paths. My finger needs a splint due to the amount of times I had to ding my bell.

Too much snow this season, its getting hard to shovel the driveway as the snowbanks are getting very high, the one behind my main deck is taller than I am. The bigger problem is with the snow on the roof, I've had the leak return by the chimney chase once again.

Its a big wide winter, but I still have plenty of firewood. Cutting extra as I do paid off this season as now my oil furnace has not had to run for the past 4 weeks, since the wood fire has not gone out due to the prolonged cold spell.

Beautiful weather these past two days. Glorious warm sunshine, very blue skies and no heating on whatsoever. I'm loving this. Seems Spring has come early. However, we might get snow and ice in March, we never know. Evenings are lighter too. It all makes me feel so much better.

Still warm and humid , not as hot with the SE winds blowing. Lots of snow in parts of Tassie and even on the Victorian Alps. A lot of the north of Qld is still under water. Cattle losses estimated around half a million whilst in SW Qld they are still in drought with dust storms. Central to north NSW has had terrible fires with houses lost. At the moment we have a large cyclone out in the coral sea battering the coast with strong winds and large swells.
Saw the Doctor last week . I am still losing weight on my low carbohydrate diet. Most of my blood tests were good tho I have had to cut my warfarin intake as my clotting factor was too low. My type 2 diabetes has improved. My history glycated haemoglobin count had been up to 7.8 . Now it is down to 6.1. I'm due for another colonoscopy in the next couple of months. Ron.

-22C under clear skies. It looks like we will have a drier weather pattern which will give us a needed break from digging out from back to back storms. I pulled my back muscle when lifting the snowmobile and while I was shoveling snow it was okay, but today I am soar and cannot lift anything, simply bending over to pick something up is difficult.

Ron, it breaks my heart when i hear of that many numbers of animals dying. So sad for the farmers too. Pleased the health isn't too bad though. Can't believe Aus has snow over there. Isn't that another anomaly?

I'm too scared to have a colonoscopy these days. They could perforate it and i end up with an ileostomy. I also have a major problem with a stricture. Again, i'm too scared for surgery for the same reason. Mum has had one for over 45 years and i've seen her problems. I just don't think i could live that way.

Not quite as nice as yesterday but my first daff is opening and i have another crocus out. Feels like spring.

Buff, i hope that back heals soon.

13c and sunny until 2pm.Clouding over now and looks like rain.
Please take care of yourselves everybody. When you're having a "good" day enjoy it but don't spoil the rest of the week by trying to do too much.....yes Buff, this means you too.

There is no snow in the forecast for the next few days which is a good thing as I am quite limited at the moment. My back is worst after sleeping, but improves with gentle movement through the day. The snowmobile cooperated when I came home from a grocery supply run as I didn't have to lift it to break it free from sitting in the snow.
Then I sat down to some chinese food, today I will just take it easy.

Another day with -12 and sunshine. We're on a roll. Nothing on radar either, the clouds all passed to the south of us.

Not sure what is an anpmoly and what is the new normal Di. The SW of Qld is in deep drought with dry floods sweeping thru it as the northern floods make their way towards lake Eyre. Rather sobering to think you can drown in the middle of a drought. Another surfer was mauled by a shark in northern NSW yesterday. His mates got him to shore and performed first aid but he was missing quite a bit of meat from his leg. He is in a serious but stable condition. shark experts suspect a great white from the shape of the chunk taken out of his surfboard. The cyclone off the coast is starting to head towards us and as usual there is about three different scenarios being considered. I like the one where a high in Bass strait interacts with it and it zooms off and annoys New Zealand. Ron.

11c,dry and breezy. This time last year we had The Beast From The East, forecasts this week are promising 20c for the South and 14-15c elsewhere.....but possible snow by the end of the month.

Currently -22, feels like -30, bright and sunny. It's Family Day in Canada. I think I'll stay indoors and crochet.

-25C sunny bright day. I put some salt up on the roof by the chimney chase and so far so good as the leak has now stopped for almost 24 hrs. I may go for a short ski this afternoon. Ron I have seen how those surfboards look like a cookie with a bite taken out of it from pictures of shark attacks. I wouldn't want to take the chance of swimming in known shark infested waters, the power of those fish are terrifying.

-25C Clear brilliant cobalt blue skies. Had a good sleep last night, feeling a bit better, I still have to go easy with my back, but going for a ski on the trail helped. They are calling for more snow, hopefully it will hold off, its becoming too much of a good thing.

We have a cyclone heading straight for us at the moment. It started as the low embedded in the monsoon trough that killed half a million cattle and flooded the whole top end of Qld. After doing that it migrated into the Coral sea and beat up quite a few of the Pacific Islands and now it is heading for my part of the world. They have no idea what it will do next. They have suggested it will cause swells up to seven metres and drop between 30 and 150 mm of rain a day for the next week or so. It is heading SW at the moment but they think it might stop on Saturday them head NW ,,, or not. It is coinciding with the biggest tides of the year and there has already been a lot of flooding with out a drop of rain having fallen. If we get even half the predicted rain I will be bailing. Ron.

Really bad news for you Ron,I can almost feel the dread in your post.Keep safe....

It was 10c during the night and is 14c today with cloud. There was a beautiful full moon last night.,I think it's called a snow moon, but I'm probably wrong. It's a third bigger than usual and gave out lot's of light.

Currently -7, going to 0 in the afternoon. More snow. The snowbanks are taller than I am.
Scottsma a supermoon is when the moon is closest to the earth, February moons are called snow moon. I had to look it up, I'm weird like that.
Ron that sounds dangerous, stay safe. You need to find a better place, or you'll be sleeping in a hammock pretty soon.

We are further south than Ron, but the wind is increasing. We live on a Bay island, however, barring a tsunami, we don't flood ( no streams or rivers). Thus far not a drop of rain, just winds of around 30 knots. Tomorrow could be interesting. Passenger and vehicle ferries have been cancelled.

All precautions are taken. Outdoor furniture secured and lashed, and the generator given a test run. Looks, as Ron says, that the Cat 2 cyclone will turn north over the weekend, or early next week Setr belts fastened, we could be in for a bumpy ride!

13c this morning with weak sunshine. They're saying 18-20c for the weekend which is double the usual Feb.temps.That can't be right ? No doubt the die hards will be parading in shorts and T's......

-4C. We have another winter storm warning. Snow, heavy at times, is expected to begin after midnight Saturday night and taper off late Sunday night. 15 to 25 cm. I'm going to stock up on food today, because the sidewalks just aren't getting done after these storms, and it's hard for me to get around.

The leaking roof has become a big problem, I had to call the insurance company and they will be coming out later to look at the damage. At least they are accepting the claim as this shoddy roofing job is less than four years old. The company went out of business shortly after doing my roof, so go figure.
I wanted to go for a supply run as it looks like we are going to get the same storm Tuff expects as it is a big system, but have to stay put for the insurance adjuster. The neighbor will be picking up a few things, but I also need prescription refills, however I do keep extra on hand for situations like this.

I hope the insurance assesser comes soon enough so you can get your supplies in.Good
that you've got spare meds though...…

16c and no vest today ...yaaaaay.

The insurance adjuster came out to assess the damage, they will cover the damages. Once spring comes then the work will go forward. Not looking forward to having workers running about the place. The joys of home ownership. Senior's apartment living looks better as time goes forward. Another blockage this morning, after a long miserable night.

Scottsma I envy you.
Bufford I hope you're feeling better. Good thing the repairs will be covered, it shouldn't take that long to get it done.
We've got -4 and light snow. Looking at the radar, we're getting just the edge of the storm, and if the wind stays where it is, we might miss most of it. Tonight will tell.

-4 and getting windy. We got lucky as well and only got the edge of the storm. Wind is 50-70 km/h and blowing snow is causing whiteouts on the highway, so it's not over yet.

Our cyclone didn't reach land but it has made a mess of all of the beaches causing severe erosion. It finally ran out of puff with some cooler sea temps and was downgraded to a tropical low. It is still with us tho as it is once again heading north to warmer waters. They say that it is unlikely to reform again but there are no certainties with cyclones. Ron.

We got more than it looked like as the storm picked up the pace in the afternoon with strong northerly winds. Temperatures dropped off close to -18C before the power went out conveniently after supper at dusk. Just enough light to make it easy to set up the generator. There is something very cozy about a power outage with the generator running when it is cold and storming outside, while I am warm inside holding a glass of scotch under the blue glow of the TV with the wood furnace humming along.
Today its going to be a long afternoon of digging out, slow and easy will do it.

-22, feels like -33, bright and sunny. There was maybe an inch of snow overnight. It's either snowing or freezing, can't win. They say spring will be warmer than normal this year.

Nasty winds, I've been at work since 6am on stand by with a saw crew in case we are called out to help clear trees. Blizzard conditions in areas, blowing snow as well as fresh snowfall.....I'm ready for spring!!!

I've missed you. Ha, what lovely weather we have. Never known it so nice in February. My daffs are out and I shall miss this lovely weather when it leaves us. It's probably our Summer! I wonder what March will bring? Can't believe the first two months are virtually over.

We have just recorded our driest summer on record. The north of the state has had one of its wettest summers ever recorded. Even with a large cyclone just offshore we did not get any rain. They had predicted up to 400 mm last weekend. I think we received a grand total of 1.5mm. We will most likely be on water restrictions before too long. Ron.

Scott says they're having at least twice as many fires as usual and a lot of roads are closed in his area of Australia and he's on stand - by.
Here it's another warm 18c.up to 21c in some places. There's a few fires on the moorland.Last year this time they where covered in snow.

Heatwaves in two states with fire bans in force for just about all of Australia except the flooded north. Ron.

-5C for a change. They say we've had double the snowfall already compared to what we usually get. If it all thaws at once then we'll have floods to worry about. Hopefully this isn't the new normal, but it seems like the weather is messed up all over the globe.

Overcast, cool and with a gentle breeze. Autumn has arrived here b, but so in the south and west of the continent which is in the throes of a heatwave. We are still awaiting some decent rain, but the forecast is for a return to warmer conditions of the next week.
Merv

Well, we managed our hottest February day ever recorded, and it was lovely. Now we are back to normal. I will be counting down the days until clocks go forwards. I'm so pleased we are over the first two months of the year.

The weather seems to be changing every year around the world.

Sunny -15C. I did a lot of work removing the snow load from my sheds. There is talk of a major warm up to hit mid month. Hopefully it will hold off otherwise its going to be a mess and lead up to a very long spring as it usually turns cold after an early warm up. Income tax together with the clocks springing forward is not my thing. I'd be more accepting of the time change if it started in May and was split evenly for six months of the year.

NTR from here. Buff, at least, I hope you don't have to contend with being a State that refuses to fall into line with the other States that do have daylight saving!

Queenslanders imagine that an extra hour of sunlight prematurely fades the curtains and disrupts cow milking!

That said, Perth in the West presently 2 hours behind us in time and South OZ and Tasmania 30 minutes, until they put their clocks back!
Merv

Some serious fires in Victoria (lightning strikes) and over in Wa. Tasmania is on fire watch. we are getting some intermittent showers tho no substantial falls. temps in the high twenties. Ron.

Storm Freya on it's way from the Atlantic. The west will get the worst of it and hopefully it will fizzle out by the time it reaches us in the East. It's 12c and sunny now (11am) but rain and wind by 3pm. Merv.I'm sure Perth don't mess around with the clocks anymore.Haven't for some time.Scott is 8hrs ahead of us in Kalgoorlie

-22 and light snow. We don't need any more snow. In the news, Ottawa has bought some sidewalk clearing equipment with a big wheel full of spikes on the front to break the ice. We need some of those around here. I bought boots that have retractable spikes on the bottom.

Being fairly close to the time zone line it is a bit confusing at times with the time split if one is not familiar with the region. West of the line is better in my opinion, for a warmer brighter morning, with an earlier sunset for more time in my evening to unwind from the day. Never had any liking for DST, it only adds stress and fatigue to my life.

You are quite right Carol, WA does not have DLS! Our grandchildren live there and the time difference is that we in Queensland are + 2 hours. Put this error down to my increasing senility!

Today is cloudy and around 28/29 *C, pleasant with the chance of a morning shower. Still warm for Autumn though,
Cheers,
Merv

Freya brought a few gusts and a few showers. Nothing much this end, and certainly nothing like Alabama. Looks horrendous out there.

sunny with a few showers in amongst a lighter breeze. Lighter of an evening and no street lights until 6pm which is a great deal better than around 4pm in December.

I certainly have my moments of either senior moments or 'senility', lol. I actually worry about them as I've no one to make me laugh at myself anymore.

Many of those senior's moments have become a regular part of the routine. At first they were a minor inconvenience, now they are simply part of life and have to accept them.
Not to make it any easier today is 'prep' day for my scope. Running on an empty stomach is giving me the chills as I cannot warm up despite the warm house. I'll drink the nasty concoctions this afternoon, no need to elaborate. Tomorrow it will be easy, have the scope done and then eat.

-25C Fresh n cold.

Chris, glad to see you stepping in for a visit.

My next scope is in April Buff , can't say that I ever get used to them. Warm and humid here. Very hot down south with a lot of houses and property lost in Victorian fires and fires still a problem in southern WA. The bushfire season gets longer each year. Ron.

Loving that experience, Buff. I've been there too many times. it's quite painful and then awaiting the expectation of the experience. Omg, I feel for you, soul. I care. Hope all is well. I cannot stand the colonoscopy cos they say they might push through with their scope and puncture my bowel and leave me with a .., an ileostomy. I cannot live with that.. It's all about my mum. She idolised her need for an ileostomy, but I find no help nor care with an ostomy. Can't stand my mum living. omg, she loved to brag about her op. I'm hating her she loves an op and … I hate an operation Crohns Disease I can't stand those that love their disease. I'm alone with pain, my friend. God, it hurts. I am so grateful for this forum. Evan if we are talking about our weather, friend.

I would have two quarter pounders with cheese to reward yourself...Then fries!!!! I hope all goes well.

Hope "it" goes OK Buff.Like Chris says, stuff ya face, when it's over....
Diane, you'll always have us to laugh at you,no wurries.I'm sure my hubbies "away with the fairies" but he is deaf so I choose to think it's that rather than senility creeping up.The things he THINKS I've said gets hilarious and annoying at the same time....

10c today with variable cloud and sun.

Buff I hope your prep and scope went well. I'm due for one as well. I actually want one so that I'll find out if I have ulcers or not. With me it's hard to tell.
-16C but it's supposed to warm up soon. Then I'm sure it'll snow. Can't win.

Its behind me now, and will wait for the results of the biopsies as many samples were taken. He said my colon looks good and the Crohn's in that section is being well managed, but the area below my stoma to my rectum is questionable; I'll know better when the results come back as that area is not so good with the bleeding disorder.

I hate this disease as its both stealing life and quality of life from us Chronies. Having said that, the neighbor picked me up after the scope and first off to visit Mc Donalds and I managed to eat a McDouble and some fries, then came home with some fried chicken for later.

I slept the afternoon away as the sedation and early appointment drained me.

Today I feel much better rested. As long as the phone from the doctor doesn't ring early I'll assume things are okay until I see him for the follow up. Now I can resume doing things. I have some issues with the carburator on the snowmobile, and have work to do at the cabin while we still have the firm snow pack.

-22C with sunshine.

-20 this morning but it's warming up. Lots of ice everywhere from this freezing/thawing making it treacherous to walk. I bought some crushed volcanic rock that works really well, my mail man won't break his neck.

Cold, showers (i'm sure it's sleet) and it's coming down horizontally. Horrible Summers day. Bring back that nice phase we had in February.

No sign of hedgies yet. I'm putting food out though.

Nice and sunny this morning, no winds, though they will be back this weekend with more rain. Sounds quite British! The birds are singing beautifully now. Life is waking up. It's good to hear.

A trifle cooler, but higher temperatures forecast for next week, A few showers, nothing serious, unfortunately. On the downside, the guys that cleaned out the Phone. Internet connection pit outside my property were kind enough to advise me that we have a Brown snake mitt momma and at least two kinder living there! Such is life.

-9 and there's a little snow cloud heading this way. In Beijing, Olympic organisers fired a barrage of 1,110 rockets into the evening sky to make sure the 2008 Olympic opening ceremony was precipitation-free. Where can I get some rockets, and is it legal to shoot them across the border.

-6 here. Yesterday it went to 0 and the snow started to melt.
Cmack it wasn't fireworks. Beijing has a weather modification office. They fired rockets to break up clouds headed towards the capital and forcing them to drop rain on outlying areas instead. They seed clouds with silver iodide to usually end droughts.

Fireworks still bring out the little kid in me. Back when I was a youngster I would be found blasting off firecrackers every May, and when my teacher would catch me I had a lot of detentions, the teacher confiscating them was a lot of hurt. I'll bet that teacher enjoyed firing them off herself for we are all little kids inside when it comes to these things.

Warm and dry. We are expecting another short heatwave this coming week. They have finally been able to enter the area affected by the Victorian bushfires and have confirmed 29 homes were destroyed. Fortunately no casualties were reported. Wa is still having some problems with fires. Ron Ps it is not normal to have fires burning in Autumn.
