What is YOUR weather like today??

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

I've got a wet room too, Ron. Sometimes i would just love to lay in a really nice hot bath for half an hour just to sort the joints and muscle aches, lol.

Lovely and sunny this morning. However, although we're at 14C at the mo, which is nice and warm for this time of year, there are clouds of darkness coming along as i speak. I suspect it will deliver a nice shower rather than let the sun shine.

Happy February everyone.

Sounds like a miserable summer down under. The only thing I know that works for the heat are those window airconditioners, not only do they cool the air but they remove humidity. One could collect the drip water from the unit and use it for drinking water. In a pinch they can run on the generator when the power is out. I couldn't live without one, nor would I be without one in the summer. I sweat and wither in the summer heat easily, but -40C in winter is no big deal and I'm just skin and bone. The salt water mosquito Merv mentioned would be the icing on the cake in such conditions.

Much of the same. NE winds flow at little more that a zephyr that dose little to cool things down, But, this is OZ and what you expect for summer, albeit with the odd cooler day, usually. Half the problem is associated with age, Us old wrinkles , particularly reformed smokees like me can get a touch wheezy in the humid conditions. I'm convinced that giving the fags away 5 years ago is part of the problem! However my bank account is much happier. Onwards and downwards is the only way to go, unless you favour a cremation.

Rain this morning but the sun's shining now.Not much else to say really except that I haven't worn many of my "winter" clothes so far this year.I've got some lovely big wooly scarves and gloves that remain in the drawer. But hubby Les feels the cold badly after his chemo etc .and
his age has made a difference since he hit 70......Merv,we are ex smokers too.Les 10yrs but he did vape for a few years until his cancer.I stopped smoking 26yrs ago and I wish I knew where the money I saved has gone.

I gave smoking cigs and also cigars about 15 years ago after smoking for a lifetime. I thought about the health consequences and they didn't feel or taste so good anymore, quitting wasn't hard to do, the time was just right to do so. As Merv says its onwards, perhaps with a bit of decent but keep it going. Cremation no thanks, I've been burn't enough going through life.

Still a bit light at 5pm now. Things are coming into leaf too early now. Unless we have an English Summer-like Winter i can't see them getting their buds up without cold damage. I'm not complaining though.

I started to feel very, very cold during chemo, Carol. It drove me mad. Even today i went so cold i put the heating up to 30C cos i was cold at 20C, lol.

It is going to be a real stinker today with 34c and humidity in the high 80% . I have to go and have my regular skin cancer check today. The joys of taking cyclosporine for years. Ron.

I don't miss the cigs , with one exception, when I sit down and figure out an easier way to get around a problem. As I only actually think on very rare occasions . this a fleeting issue! Actually, apart from saving money, I had extensive vascular surgery ( stents and femoral popliteal by passes) on both legs and it really came down to quit, or face the prospect of amputation at a later stage, thus quitting was a no brainer. Kinda like the Foreign Legion 'March ( with one leg) or die.'

A touch tripical today, guesstimate of mid thirties with virtually no breeze, those bloody mossie love these calm flying condition.

Just as an aside, part of my army brigade were formed in North America as the 60th N American Rifles, later to become the now defunct King Royal Rifle Corps (KRRC)., Hence we wore the battle honour "'Quebec. on our badge and cross belts. Please don't mention this to the French!

Cheers,
Keep as well as you can , Matey,
Merv

What I missed most was the process, I liked sparking up, ashing and playing with the cigarette, cigars were better for that and lasted longer. Taking air travel with a plane full of smoke the moment the smoking sign went out after take off. I don't miss it anymore.
More seasonal today, but still above normal. No I won't mention anything to the French, they are a persistent bunch for sure and know how to get their way.

Les finished chemo In October and still suffers with the cold. It'll be interesting to see if it improves during the warmer weather. He's getting very attached to his fleece blanket...….Very windy today and cold but sunny. The fine winter is confusing our wild life

Some rain last night and very much cooler. The wind is a constant 20 kts from the south east and forecast to be this way for a few days. . No air-con needed , which is a blessing. Sleeping with the A/C running tends to dry you eyes, mush prefer having a window open.
u
I agree , Buff, having a cigarette in you hand was part of the ritualistic behaviour,. As you, I even though I smoked I hated being in a plane enveloped in a haze of tobacco smoke, but later not being able to puff away on long distance flights never bothered me. Watching old movies now amuse me where virtually everyone has a fag hanging out of the corner their mouths.

I wonder why, Scottsma chemo has that effect of feeling the cold Perhaps there is some resultant peripheral nerve tissue damage?

Yep, 34c is very warm for Tyneside. I don't envy you. In later life both Pam and myself get knocked about by the heat, as everyone else of our age does.
Spring and Autumn are the most pleasant tine of the year in SE Queensland..

I've been on a lot of nasty immune suppressants for the past 15 years. They make you very sun sensitive , plus all of the years I have spent in the sun fishing. I must admit I have always worn hats , long sleeved shirts and sunscreens. Happily he only found one small lesion on my right shin that was suspicious. He has a policy of when in doubt rip it out. Suits me fine. He did say that with 70 fast approaching I should go to six monthly checks which is no problem. It has dropped into the high 20cs for a change but humidity is around 100% . yes we are getting some light rain. Ron.

Tonights news is predicting that SEQueensland could receive up to 150mm of rain overnight and is warning of flash flooding. They are also keeping a close eye on the possible formation of a cyclone off the central QLD coast. You can't say we don't live in interesting times in Australia. Ron...Who hopes not to get wet feet when I get up in the morning!

Very low lying grey clouds for us today. Certainly no 15cm of rain, for which i am grateful, however, i think your Aus weather is having the most exciting time weather ever produced. When does it stop. 20C sounds lovely but not with 100% humidity, Ron. Keep safe.

Carol, i see you have been through it quite a bit with the blokes in your life. I hope all the treatments are successful. I'm hoping i don't have to keep my thermals on all year, but i cannot believe how cold i was during chemo. Two days ago i noticed some fine nasal hairs ( i kept threatening to design the naso-wig due to very high exit speed of snot dripping onto the shoe, lol), i also have eyelashes poking through (must be Spring) My grey hairs are growing 3x as fast as my darks, lol

Today we have brilliant cobalt blue skies with sunshine -22C which have been very few this winter. A nice change from the drab gray days that seemed to go on forever. I'll take advantage of it as it will not last for very long. The mild weather has been problematic for remote communities that rely upon ice roads that cross frozen lakes for trucks as large as semis. The ice has been thin this season which will mean supplies will have to be flown in at much greater cost. Its not unusual for this to happen from time to time as the last few years were very good for the ice road network.

Warnings for heavy rain and flash floods. I slept with one eye open last night (when the water starts coming in I have to be awake). It is a crazy system, cool moist south easters are running into hot wet noreasters and water is just pouring down but not everywhere. Stanthorpe copped a bucketing this afternoon and they think it may put some water into the empty Storm king dam. Only time will tell Ron.

Been lovely this morning but clouding over now. Was lovely and warm, didn't need coat for trip to doctors. I actually feel a little more perky, and i think it's that waking up to spring feeling. It's way too early for that. What weird weather we are having. Amazingly i noticed that quite a few trees have their pink blossom coming out and look lovely, but again it's too early.

Are the truck drivers losing monies with the slushy roads, Buff? They'll be cursing it too. Sincerely hope you have a very early and tame Autumn, Ron. Stay safe.

Made it thru the night without getting wet feet. I was lucky in some respects . The rain has been steady for two days but not torrential. They are still keeping an eye on the coral sea low. Another storm is on the horizon with coronavirus. Australia has recorded 14 cases so far , far higher than expected. Ron.

No sign of rain here yet. I'm pleased. Sounds good Ron, so long as the floods don't do damage.

Lovely and sunny warmer too after a very frosty start. We now await the arrival of storm Ciara. Very windy apparently, but they're not sure how much rain and quite where it will fall.

Its been more seasonal and they expect it to continue, I don't know if it will be enough to salvage the winter road season. In many cases they carry lighter loads, but it will still leave inventories such as fuel and building supplies low in some remote communities. We could use some steady cold weather to keep insect populations down that cause harm to forests that can lead to fire activity later. Conditions are good now for cross country skiing as the snow pack has firmed up enough to hold my weight.

I did a bit of bailing during the night, we had around80mm from mid day yesterday. Brisbane and the gold coast copped plenty but the North coast of NSW getting the worst of it with some serious flooding in some coastal towns. They think we will be in for a rerun over the weekend and they think the coral sea low will form a cyclone some time next week. Over in West Australia another cyclone has formed over the Pilbara coast and strong winds and flooding rain is forecast. Ron.

Today is 11 years since Black Saturday. We remember those who lost their lives at Marysville, Kinglake and many other small communities in the Dandenong Ranges.

RIP 173

Wonderfully sunny today. A gentle breeze and mild weather are just leading up to Ciara. I shall sit it out indoors thanks. Not sure how bad it's supposed to be in our area of the Midlands, but i think Carol will be feeling the effects more than us as we're farther south. The north always gets it worse. I suspect Carol moved there for the comfort of cold weather.

Stay out that smokey haze, Catherine. Enjoy the skiing Buff.

We are looking at a week of rain ,some heavy. There were quite a few areas flooded near me . Yandina just up the highway got nearly a 100 mm in an hour last night. A lady had to swim out of a flooded creek after her car was washed off a causeway. This should put a bit of water in some of the local dams. Ron.

-27C Brilliant sunshine under blue cobalt skies. The wind has a little bite to it, but the sun has a lot of warmth. Good day to go for a ski, I may finally ski the top half of the trail. Snow conditions have firmed up, and there are lynx tracks everywhere following the rabbits. This dry air does not feel as cold as it looks on the thermometer.

Lordy Buff.you're a tough old fella, and no mistake....Worried about Chris,it's been ages since he joined us...….Sunny 8c here and all on standby for storm Ciara calling on us tonight and tomorrow, maybe. Read in the paper that Antarcta has had temp.of 18c + lately.!!!

-22 with overcast. Yesterday was a good day of skiing, I finally managed to ski to the top end of the trail to the small lake. This is deep into the back country, the natural beauty of this prestine area is mesmerizing to say hard to put into words. When I was younger I skied the distance on a regular bases throughout the winter, this time it took me half the winter to get there, and quite a challenge.
I wonder where Chris went, hope he returns at some point.

Well, the wind is finally getting up. Here comes storm Ciara. My neighbours huge fir trees are swaying about already. Sincerely hope they stay put as the roots are under my bungalow.

Hm, does Chris go in any of the other threads? He's dropped off the radar lately a bit. Good luck during the storm, Carol.

The heavy rain predicted for our area has stayed just off shore. Brisbane and the gold coast have had a lot more . Same for northern NSW . Coffs Harbour has had some heavy flooding. The central coast and Sydney area have had heavy rain. On the south coast the rain has finally put out the Shoalhaven fire which has been burning since December. The west coast in the Pilbara have copped a serious drenching from the cyclone. Ron.

-14 under sunshine. Quiet here by comparison, going to go for a snowmobile ride with the neighbors. Its probably going to get long, so I will be a physical wreck by the end of the day. I'll take the video camera along, conditions are right for some good video.

It looks like we missed the worst of Ciara or it missed us..Strong wind and short sharp showers, but plenty of bright spells too and 8c.
Chris does pop up on a few other threads but I haven't seen any signs of him for a while.....enjoy your day Buff.

Sydney copped over 400mm of rain in some areas over the weekend with a lot or flash flooding. The rain has spread from Bundaberg in QLD to the Vic border . A lot of the NSW east coast rivers are in flood resulting in numerous swift water rescues. Poor state emergency service volunteers who have been fighting fires for months are now up to their necks in water. They are hoping the storms will extend into Gippsland and extinguish some of the hard to get at fires. There are still 45 fires burning in NSW despite the rain. The central WA coast has been pounded by strong winds and heavy rain from the latest west coast cyclone. Ron.

I've been reading about the storms and flooding in Sydney this morning. Can't believe it, there seems to be no end.

A few trees down blocking roads locally, much tree debris strewn everywhere, still some strong gusts but the sun is out for the moment.

Enjoy the ride, Buff, and take plenty to eat drink to keep energy up.

4c with strong gusty wind and the odd shower. But the sun's popping through when it can. We're very lucky here as a months rain fell all around us yesterday, and the South Tyne burst it's banks and Yorkshire is flooded yet again too. Scattered snow on high ground and temps to drop due to wind chill.

It was a 5 hour snowmobile ride that covered close to 100 kms, and I collapsed into the recliner when I got home before even stoking up the fire. The group of us headed north and east through some country I have not been to in years, I was astonished by the huge clear cuts that I last saw that were once the boreal forest. Nothing standing for many kms in all directions, its with no wonder that the moose are gone. We went north and crossed some beautiful forest and lakes and an old trappers cabin taken over by the wilderness, it will not be long for that forest to meet the fate of the saws. The newer machine is much more comfortable than the old one allowing me to go further before my back couldn't take it any longer and darkness was not far off. Going to take it easy today.

Wow, some lovely sunshine with short snow flurries. It is colder now as predicted. We now expect another storm. His name begins with D but can't remember it. The met office will remind me when he arrives.

we're not expecting more snow but i think Carol is going to get snow dumped during the next few days. We weren't supposed to get any snow. But they were just little flurries.

So pleased you got 5 hours in on the snowmobile, Buff. Sounds like fun. Sad when the territory is so badly changed by humans. Pleased you made that decision to upgrade the snowmobile. Probably enjoy more trips out.

More rain, but much better than being cooped up on a cruise ship off the Japanese coast. This one of those relatively rare occasions when the Met Office have got the forecast right for several successive days. Our rain water tank floweth over-good for another 6 months for garden watering.

Our little island had no lakes, permanent rivers or streams so the birrd life is dependent on people providing a water supply for their survival. The Kookaburras, Cockatoos and multiple parakeet and an assortment of other species are wet , but chuffed! How snakes survive is not of any ral interest to me!

It is around midnight. We have had a bad day in Nambour. The local shopping mall is built beside Petrie creek . A storm hit the hinterland this afternoon. The people who work in the mall park in a car park between the mall and the creek. A wall of water from the storm washed around ten of their cars into the creek. We had another storm at around eight. I have been bailing ever since . I have shifted over two hundred gallons out or my bedroom and bathroom . Another storm is coming thru now. I expect I will be bailing all night. I have to see my doctor tomorrow , my diabetes meds have stopped working and I cant get my blood sugars under 11. So not only am I bailing , I feel like crap and my flat smells like a swamp. Ron.

Oh, Ron, what a disaster. Is it a place you rent, Ron? I really feel for you. this isn't what you need to be doing with your health and age. Sounds like you are living in your boat with no cover on. How awful. Wish i could do something to help you.

Sunny again today. No snow whatsoever, but i think Carols probably delighted and is happily building a snowman.

Ron my friend,I think it's time for a move...how the heck you cope is beyond me. How about an add in the paper saying "Man with boat and rod seeks lady with large bucket and sense of humour for companionship...Please send photo....of bucket.
Blue skies and constant sunshine but very chilly wind.No snow Di. but we live in hope.

Love that humour! Ron would be better off with an igloo that melts slowly. No bucketing lady but he might cope with the drips lol. Terrible situation really. I'd refuse to pay rent, but Ron might own it and we could be insulting him. Stay safe, Ron.

Ron you need to move out of there, sounds like living misery, not healthy at all. I wouldn't pay the landlord a dime until they brought the building back up to date.
We are heading into the deep freeze, albeit for only a couple of days. Yesterday I took advantage of the mild weather to go for supplies, and now stay holed up for the cold snap except to go for a ski up the trails. Skiing I can keep warm, but walking across those open parking lots are like Siberia when the arctic winds sweep through.

Scary night, we had around 230mm yesterday in Nambour. The forecast is for more rain today and the tropical cyclone that formed in the coral sea is passing over Norfolk island today so we can expect swells of up to 5 meters on our local beaches. Between the rain, high tides and the swells the flood waters are having a hard time getting out of the rivers. They said when the rain finally stops we can expect another heat wave. We can expect an upsurge of mosquito borne illness particularly Ross river and dengue fever. If I was into sarcasm I'd say well that's the good news ,now for the bad. Ron. PS. Nsw is just as bad.

Much the same here , Ron, except that we ae not underwater. I can only offer my sympathies in conjunction with all the others. As Buff remarked , it is certainly worth a chat with the landlord or agent about the rent and fixing the drainage problem. Given your health issues, it might be worth seeking advice from whichever local government department is responsible for such matters, Of the top of my head, I can;t think of the appropriate body, but you could start with the Council , your GP to point you in the right direction. There is also 'Lifeline' which may be able to assist you,

Keep you chin up, Mate .Cheers, Merv

That's 23 cms, Ron. Ridiculous isn't it? You shouldn't have to be bailing water at that age. I sincerely couldn't do it. You sound like you are in squalid apartments, Ron. Do you have a dept of environment health anywhere around? they might help out by pushing a landlord to repair it.

Very changeable weather now. Showers + a tad of sunlight occasionally. My first crocus is out, i also have new leaf growth on my rose bushes. Gets dark around 5.30 now which is so much better.

My first everything has either drowned, or has terminal 'trench foot'!

I have been bailing now for over 13 years. The property I live in sits on the boundary of a small nature reserve called Koala park. Apparently there used to be koalas but one of the very old residents living on top of panorama (the extinct volcano behind my flat) said that they had all been killed by wild dogs. To drain the property properly groundwork and draining pipes would have to be installed on park land and apparently that is not allowed under any circumstances. The back wall of my flat is nearly 12 foot underground so when the hill and all of the spaces around the volcanic floaters ( large volcanic rocs) fills with rainwater my wall leaks into my bedroom and my bathroom //laundry. I have been looking for another flat for years but they all cost double what I pay now. So here I stay till they kick me out. Ron.

-32C under brilliant sunshine. Good day to go for a ski or do anything that will provide warmth. The house got very warm last night as I added wood each time I got up to urinate. A little too frequent urination thinking that I would fall into a deep sleep afterwards I would take the chance by adding another piece of wood to the fire. It got a bit much, but a warm house is a good thing in weather like this. Going skiing later. Ron is there a tenancy act that provides assistance and uphold rights for tenants in your area?

Bright and sunny. Light easterly winds which really don't do much to address the humidity, but at least the heavy rains have ceased. According to the Met Office, we might have a reasonable weekend, although the merchants of doom predict that next week will see more PDP (peeing down precipitation)

Lovely morning here. Looks like a lovely early spring day. Alas, Storm Dennis is apparently gaining a tad more strength before he arrives over the weekend. Shame really, there are so many clusters of daffodils up and ready to start blooming. No doubt they will be flattened along with a few more trees down. I'm not complaining at all compared to the climate and conditions others have to put up with. In fact I'm grateful for this easy weather and climate here.

-30 Clear calm and quiet. Went for a long ski yesterday reaching up close to the furthest point on the trail, the dry cold air is like a tonic that provides energy while the warmth of the sun upon my back is soothing and comforting on the old bones. I came home with a good appetite. I may do the same today and go explore the side trails, I saw one set of moose tracks of a good sized animal

Hot ,cloudy and humid. Showers expected. Local council warning to have plenty of bug deterrent with you as the mosquitoes are in plague proportions. Sydney and Victoria hit by severe storms overnight. Lots of folk without power,Ron.

Think there will be a few without power over here soon, Ron. The wind is really getting up now. No harsh downpours yet. It will be bad in the north very soon. However, i think Iceland are going to get it worst. Good luck to any crohnies out there. Bet they don't have the Brca gene either lol. I'm going to stay in this weekend.

Stay safe, Carol.

Two people were drowned in the South east of Qld during the east coast low downpour, a kayaker in the Mary river and a bushwalker at the back of the gold coast. Hot and humid weather today with showers for the rest of the week. Stay safe in Britain, Ron.

Some good news for a change. A 26 yr old chinese uni student feared swept away In a flash flood last week was today found in cave on a cliff face not far from where she went missing. She was dehydrated and very hungry with plenty of cuts and bruises . She is recovering well in the gold coast hospital. With only two weeks of summer left we are still in the low 30cs of a day and around 24 overnight and very high humidity. Nearly all of the fires are now either out or well under control. It has only taken spring and most of summer. Ron.

Went for a long snowmobile ride with the bunch yesterday, snow conditions were perfect and there were a lot of people out snowmobiling and ice fishing. I did not see any moose tracks in this area that was once prime moose country. Forest companies cut a new forest access road through prime boreal forest, once clear cut and sprayed these forests will be gone forever.

glad you enjoyed your run out Buff. It's the li ttle things that make life worth living. How nicer life would be if greedy companies and thoughtless governments would leave nature alone..cold and blustery 3c here today. Not pleasant.

Wow, what a drab morning. Low white cloud cover, wet and really quite cold. I think i can say i'm feeling better since the evenings are lighter now. It just seems to make all the difference an hour and a half lighter during the day. It's about 5 weeks to clocks forward and then i shall hopefully be back to my normal self (health Permitting).

Sounds like a whole gang go off snowmobiling over there, Buff. Shame about the wildlife. I hate it when these floods happen, the wildlife in hibernation doesn't stand a chance, that includes hedgehogs also. So sad.

Horrible day. Hot sticky and humid. No rain but I still nearly drowned just walking around. No sign of any cooler weather and according to the forecasters there is not much chance of temps and humidity dropping with sea temps on the Sunshine coast sitting at 28c Ron.

Hey just wanted to start a new thread about the weather in your area because there has been significant changes throughout the world. I love to learn about the weather temps in different parts of the world.

It is winter time now  since the middle of January now is cold it has not being near the temperatures for the Northwest of Ontario. Today is -14c but feels like -26c...still far below the colder temps!

Show us your weather!:ycool:
Southern Indiana Weather today is Sunny clear skies and cold.

I've woken up myself today too, Buff. another day towards March. So looking forward to the Spring daylight and clocks moving forwards.

I'm having one of my freezing days. It must be me as the heating is on and i don't feel in the least bit warm. I swear i should go back to bed on days like these.

We are in for a big warm up over the weekend. I put more of those roof salt pucks up on the trouble area of the roof ahead of time. Its expected to go up into the single digits. Good weather for ice fishing, when temps fall as expected next week it should create a firmer snow pack.

Ah, the old hot water bottle. I have one somewhere. I think i'll get that warmed up. Thanks for the reminder. Think i might get the spare duvet on me too. It's that bad. September is quite a long time. Is hubby having weekly chemo? Thinking of you both and i hope all goes well.

27F,sunny and no wind. A nice respite from waking to -15F and daytime temps staying below zero(with the wind chill)for the last five days or so. A forecast of mid 40F's for the next few days. Crazy weather. We had 7 inches of snow last night as well, the cold temps kept it nice and powdery. The dogs were pleased with that.

We had some heavy showers overnight. All that did was to make the humidity worse. Temps still in the high 20,cs -low 30c's. They expect to name a new cyclone spinning up in the gulf of Carpentaria by tomorrow. Models expect it to head off west over the northern territory. They said it could dump some needed rain in the gulf country. Ron.

0C sunny. It will get up into the single digits again like yesterday. Too warm to go any distance safely in a snowmobile without overheating the engines, and lousy for cross country skiing. Good day to dig into the fuel problems with the other machine. Its likely dirt in the carb. Don't like doing this kind of work where I am forced to hunch over for long periods of time.

He had 5 days radiotherapy Mon to Fri and he also had chemo every Fri.He was really buggered for more than 6wks.It's taken a good while to get as close to normal as he's likely to get,but he's had the all clear for now.Still has 27 apts. to go though. I can understand a wee bit what you have to go through Di, but only those of you who've actually been through it know what it's like. RESPECT !!!...….Cold and very windy again here.

Occasional sunshine, still windy, not so cold today and i've got singing birds in the trees around here. Starting to put hedgepig food out and looking for any signs (like hedgehog poo). Less than a week of February left. I'm quite a happy bunny today.

It can be really hard sometimes Carol, my surgeon left the sword hanging over my neck for seven years before he decided I was probably all clear.
More rain coming ,the cyclone is still forming in the gulf and there is an inland trough in the south west causing a lot of good rain. We will eventually get the remains of it. They say it will only be around 30 mill. They said that last time and we got 230mm Ron.
