It was a cloudy day with no rain. Temps are going up to 30c tomorrow with the possibility of storms. I have to head into town tomorrow to vote in the state election. I am not a political animal but I believe that we all have a say in what happens so why waste it. I always vote early to keep away from the crowds. Ron.
 
No change for a few days really, weather wise, it's been another day that's flown by so fast.
A massive skein of geese flew overhead this morning ,in fact there were three one behind the other.I love the sound of geese and swans flying overhead and it's amazing how many people fail to notice them and only look skywards when they see us standing head back and mouth agape...….Les had another of his oncology check ups canceled
and replaced with a phone consultancy. I only hope his cardio apt .will be face to face as it's only 6wks since his heart attack. Still,what will be will be...we don't have control over anything just now.
 
Rain during last night but it's a nice sunny day today and 17c !!!! is this summer NEVER going to end ?

Had a cycle along the coast and I felt like shouting "Have you people not got homes to go to ?"....Of course they're entitled to have a walk / Cycle
as long as they show up when it's cold,wet,and windy and sleety...
 
-7C Sunny under cobalt blue skies, more snow is expected, the shallow lakes are freezing over as this early winter pattern continues. Take is easy Chris, damaging your back is not worth the work. With my vertigo issues related to nerve damage I decided upon the last oil change that it would be my very last one. Now I will let the garage do all the work on the truck even the small stuff. I used to be a do it yourselfer, but age and health problems have caught up with me. Doing anything that requires bending over I simply cannot do it anymore, while I am still fine working in an upright position.
 
We have a large area or instability approaching us from inland. Depending on where the troughs form (either east of the dividing range or west), we may get a good soaking over the weekend. It is much cooler today. My feet and legs are a good barometer for temperature change. If I wake up with cramps I know I got the bed covers all wrong. Last night a sheet was just not adequate. I know what you mean Buff, when I get a hair cut I let them trim my beard, it's a better look than some of my recent efforts. Ron.
 
We are supposed to be getting snow at some point, it is getting colder up North.
Husband went to hospital via ambulance Yesterday he has been having a tight chest, he does have Aschemic Heart Disease.
I am now 3 weeks sober for Sober October quite chuffed with the donations received from friends & family.

Keep it up Carol. Have a Halloween drink to celebrate. Sorry about your husband, hoping it's not Covid related and thinking of you, along with Carol and her hubby. Got a slightly swollen node at the moment. Just a little worried. Mind the back, Chris. Don't go doing that in or you'll be exchanging your iron horse for Rons zimmer frame with seat!

saw my nephrologist today. He was quite surprised to see me come in with the walker. He took me off the bidureon and put me back on Metformin and jardiance. I had actually done that myself but he approved. I still haven't got the onter drug out of my system and I still feel quite unwell. I told him that I was seriously unwell after I was vomiting. He checked my bp history and pulse history(I record them every day). He suspects I had some atrial fib as I was running bp of 102/51 with a pulse rate of 100. he has altered my bp meds.
We had a little rain today and expect some more over the weekend.. Take care everyone.Ron.
 
We didn't experience any storm from Barbara. I'm pleased about that. Lovely and sunny today so more pruning and cutting down. Expecting more rain this evening as we had last night, but it's nice when it rains at night though. More places under the fullest lockdown now, really boring, not that i'm affected yet.

Obviously we have a few bearded men amongst us.
 
It is looking consistently more probable that we will see a large rain event passing thru the east of Australia in the coming week. They have forecast that over 100mm will be produced my severe storms on the coast. We were lucky here Buff with the onset of winter everyone of my age were supplied with a free shot of flu virus. It has paid dividends. Between the flu shot and the extreme covid restrictions , flu infections are at an all time low. Hygiene,self distancing and wearing masks has not only helped covid it has removed most of the paths of spread for flu.
I saw my nephrologist yesterday. My kidneys have lost some ground , my liver is inflamed and my heart and blood pressure are not good. My blood pressure is too low and my pulse rate way too high. He has taken me off Bidureon. He thinks that side effects of bidureon and the state of liver are the most probable cause of the nausea. Ron.
 
I am sorry to see the problems your having at the moment Ron it is good you were able to have a free flu jab.
I had mine in early September, I hope the doc is keeping a good eye on your liver & heart rate.

Rather wet and drab outside. Not too cold though. Nipped to the tip with extra stuff cleared out. Prunings have gone too. Obviously i'm having a clear out and getting my winter nest together lol. Does anyone know whether badgers hibernate?
 
-2C and gray, I don't know about badgers, but I feel like hibernating for a part of the day. Good sleep last night, but still feel like I need more. I'll be glad when the blood tests and the ultrasound get done as I feel something drawing my strength down. Too much waiting with the waiting times in this healthcare system. Maybe that is their way of saving money with the hopes that some of us don't make it in time for our appointments.
 
We woke up here to -8c and it's only reached a high of -3c. Tonight it's predicted to drop to -18... That's just a touch too much. Good luck next time with the squirrel, Carol. I have been feeding the critters since I was a young boy visiting Stanley Park in Vancouver... They would run right up my leg and sit on my shoulder waiting for a peanut... :)
 
We don't have any squirrels in Australia. We do have possums No way I want to hand fed them . They would take the hand and your head if they got as far as your head. Another shark attack today off the coast at Lucinda in north Qld. He stopped breathing a couple of times on the way to hospital with severe blood loss. He was spearfishing at the time. He is in hospital in a critical condition.. We have had a series of super cells come thru today. Their was a lot of rain in Brisbane and the gold coast. Not so much up here, we got 30 mm yesterday, Ron.
 
11c and sunny AGAIN !!! We had a walk along the river and I know I'm getting boring but...….honestly it's getting stupid now.
We discussed where would be best for our walk and thought the river side would be best,.....,wrong choice......But I'm sure the sea front was just as bad. Plus we had to walk into the low winter sunshine trying not to walk into possibly covid infected day trippers.

-7C Mainly cloudy and maybe a flurry later on. Its been quiet around here, took a walk, the ice on the beaver pond is not quite thick enough to support my weight but things are freezing up. I should be brushing out my fire lines with the brush saw as conditions are good for doing this kind of work.
 
Still 13000 homes without power in the SE this morning from the super cells last night. One man serious but stable after a tree fell on him in his back yard.Some flooding in NSW and Vic. More of the same for most of the week. Off to the skin clinic this morning, now on 6 monthly checks.Ron.
 
I reckon Australia must be one of the most dangerous places to live, Ron, covid aside, seeing as you're doing well with that. As we can see the Uk isn't doing well with its rising numbers.

Sounds like you're getting well and truly frozen over in Canada. It certainly is colder here now, and with the drawing of the curtains now in late afternoon all seems doomed here. Oh well, books and youtube for me i think. I do watch tv occasionally but not often. I think it will be a long dawn out autumn and winter this year. My nodes don't feel good again and i have my bloods tomorrow. I'm feeling very sad about this year, but i only need to outlive my lovely old moggie. She looks and walks like a little old lady now, bless her. My neighbours cat is starting to muscle his way into her territory now her bolder sister is no longer with us. He has a little go at her now and i do worry about the badgers as she goes out for a wee of a night. Too wet to do anything more in the garden for now.
 
Trouble is Di it is not always the obvious things that are dangerous. The guy who got bitten by the shark yesterday actually woke up in hospital this morning and was talking to the doctors, He was a specialist diver in the US armed forces . You wouldn't believe it he was spearfishing in the same spot three years ago when he saved a young Australian spearo who had his leg chewed off by a shark. His spearfishing buddy was also with him on that trip and saw what he had done to stop the young guy from bleeding out. He is in stable condition but still critical just due to the amount of damage and tissue loss. Ron.
 
The shark attack victim was on the international news last night, he was very lucky. Given how common the attacks are, I wouldn't want to go swimming in the ocean. Having said that I do venture into known black bear country regularly despite having had been stalked by bear. As we go into winter the threat of an encounter goes down as bear begin to hibernate. There isn't a place in the world that does not have its risks. -7C under sunshine.
 
A line of storms came thru the SE yesterday, then they all combined . Brisbane got 72mm in two hours, we got around 39 in short order . There is a similar forecast for today. We have several covid cases in people recently returned from overseas but they are all in quarantine. There was only thee cases recorded outside of quarantine for all of Australia. ron.

Severe storms from 2pm yesterday afternoon continuing to the early hours of this morning. We received around 60mm overnight. Storms are also forecast for today. There is a low off the NSW coast with plenty of rain in NSW ,Vic and Sa. We are expecting warmer temps in the next week and things will get pretty steamy and uncomfortable. The levels of covid are rising alarmingly around the world at the moment. It has pretty well put paid to the theory that it will just go away. Stay safe, Ron.
 
-10C and Mainly sunny. Good to see you here Lisa and welcome back Tony. I got the truck rustproofed and had my bloodwork done, it was a long day. My sodium levels are down a bit which may explain why I have been feeling off my game, creatine levels are a bit low too. Ice is thickening up on the waterways, which will open the way to easier travels through the wilderness trails and the ice fishing season.

Ca-125 dropped 1 point despite nodes. Quite relieved although i have legs ache.

Autumn is well and truly here. Unfortunately there aren't many colourful trees around now as the leaves are down and sodden. This is the messy part of autumn that i really don't like. Not too cold though at the moment. However, my sleep and mood is slightly out of sync. Could be SAD i suppose. I could do with proper sunshine, Ron. Mind, it's good to hear you speaking of rain down there. Gets to the bone/joints though, doesn't it? Don't know why but i'm starting to watch Canadian/Alaskan bushcraft again on youtube lol. Maybe i'm due for hibernation. I expect that's it. What if i glam up November with Xmas decorations and my tree up, lol.

Yesterday was fine and warm. Today we face the prospects of more severe storm cells. I haven't had to bail any water yet but I put that down to good luck and the fact that the ground is so parched. There is no doubt that once the underground water levels rise and the prospect of heavy rain I will get flooded. Ron.

I wasn't kidding.......horribly wet and windy but 14c so musn't grumble.It'll keep the great unwashed indoors,but it's not a bike day so we won't appreciate the peace.
 
We had an afternoon of supercell storms, they stretched from the Sunshine coast down thru Brisbane to the Gold coast. Nothing is normal anymore. Once you would get some thunder , lightning and a little wind and rain. Some of the hail that hit South Brisbane was around 15cm in size. If it hit you ,hail that size would kill you. It destroyed many cars. So much for solar panels, they don't work with 15cm holes thru them. Many houses had their roofs destroyed then the ceilings collapsed from rain. Nowhere in this country is safe anymore and we are nearly in to cyclone season. I think we are long past time where anything we can do to stop global warming will make any difference. I am glad I am 70,Ron.
 
I had another good walk on the trail yesterday and brought home partridge for dinner I will have tonight. Today is very windy and gray, one more day of winter conditions before a major warm up is expected to hit us. That is some very seriously large hail Ron, it maybe time to update the building code for roofing. Between the pandemic and other problems facing us, I too am glad I am retired. The young people need to look beyond the Earth, I see no future sitting still here fighting amongst nations, the environment needs a break.
 
A lot of unhappy people in SE Qld after yesterdays storms. Preliminary estimates are over I billion dollars AUS in damage. On a brighter note despite a couple of covid cases in overseas return quarantine there were no new community cases of covid recorded in Australia today. Our state government was returned last night with an increased majority thanks mainly to the job they have done keeping us safe. They were under enormous pressure form the federal prime minister and treasurer to open all the borders but our premier just told them that when the state medical officer says it is safe they will open and not before. I agree if the health is ok then you can look to the economy. Ron.
 
11c and blustery...……..we begin another lockdown at 12-01am on Thursday. Not quite as severe as the last one but close.It's for 4wks, and only essential shops will remain open i.e. food and pharmacies..... no pubs,gyms,theatres,cafes etc.
 
A gloomy and blustery day here. Staying in and staying warm is for me today. No plans to get out and about.

Lockdown number two should, i hope, be easier than the first. Not had any social interactions yet. So life has been boring, but i can at least cope with this during gloomy weather. It's not like missing spring again.

Ron, those are giant hailstones. I've seen so many of those over the world on youtube. Never used to see such when i was young. They are damaging and nature will suffer, not to mention the loss of property from the downpour. I knew someone who counted over 400 dinks in his vehicle after one storm hit part of the local town. The other half didn't get it.
 
-8C windy with 3 cms of fresh snow. The clocks went back last night and if I had my way they would stay back and end the madness of changing the clocks and the dismal mornings of daylight saving time. I like bright mornings after having spent much of my life rising in darkness, driving to work in the dark and never getting the rest I needed. I have been feeling better rested in retirement than I did for most of my life prior. I wonder how much affect this has had on my health and Chrons. Maybe I would never had gotten Chrons if I received proper rest instead of chasing the clock constantly.
 
Warmer and mainly fine. Another front approaching from the west. I don't get daylight saving either. We don't have it in Qld but the southern states do. we have had several referendums about it but the Qld population just don't want it. I find it difficult to get decent rest these days Buff. I don't sleep well and with units everywhere , there are mowers , whipper snippers and blowers going from early in the morning,. I believe that a lot of my medical problems were caused by my time in Dept of Defence. For ten years I worked rolling shiftwork, week of day , week of evening then a week of midnight shift. It was difficult to get enough rest and if you did get sick it would hang on forever. Ron.
 
-2C with a large warm up underway. Nature is up to her tricks, the snow will not last long with the type of weather on the way. Going to have to roll with the punches. Ron, that shiftwork made a mess of my internal body clock, we had similar with a full week (7 nights in a row) followed by three weeks of days if one could call it dayshift when rising constantly with darkness. Once the plant was automated the shiftwork ended, but a lot of less senior staff were let go. At least the job paid the bills and provided a pension.
 
No storms expected until next weekend. People are being asked to send in video of the storms particularly of hail stones . According to what has been seen already they are believed to be the largest hail ever recorded in Australia. The damage to houses looks more like battle damage than an act of nature. Southern states are heating up. The constant string of lows crossing the country from the west are dragging heat from the north and centre of Australia into the southern states. Temps in Melbourne expected over 30c today. We are bringing a lot of Australians back home at the moment via special flights. They are put under extreme quarantine and quite a few have covid.Apart from them only one covid case was reported yesterday and today. Ron.
 
Wow, Ron, i'm going to be searching for the weather damage on youtube. I probably won't have to search far as most of the channels i sub to are earth changes. Sounds horrendous. So pleased the economy isn't crashing too badly there Ron, well, i assume it's not. I'm sure there are going to be knock on effects like your airlines and any oil or gas. We're all using less. Our numbers are horrendous and i'm not sure about the 999 ambulance crisis last night due to too many calls in the North West which has been under lockdown. Sounded a bit strange.

Sad about world events these past few days. The world is in chaos enough at the moment. Not that some God's care!

Sunny at the moment but there are some larger black clouds rolling in. Going to nip out to non essential shops today and to challenge a supermarket if possible.

Another warm day coming up, I shoveled the snow off of the tarps on the woodpiles in an effort to try to keep the wood dry. Everything is soggy and slushy at the moment. I saw the hail storm damage where the hail punctured roofs like bomb shrapnel. I wonder what the building codes are for the damage done, I've never seen puncture wounds through ceilings due to hail as extreme as shown on the news. The economy continues to sag while the virus surges, and the authorities are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Huge queue at the greeting card shop of people panicking in case they won't get xmas cards to send to family and friends.....oh,how I wish that was all I had to worry about ( and no,I wasn't in the queue )
 
Lovely and sunny today. Just doing a few bits in the garden to tidy up the lasts and snip the edges of my lawn. Just wish the day would be longer for this lovely weather. Seen plenty of those videos Ron. Pretty bad. Not had it like that over here at all. We're lucky i think.

Big hugs Chris. I still have one elderly cat. We're trying to outlive each other. Lost her sister during last lockdown. Heartbreaking to lose companions.

Not too bad out at all. I'm going to ask badger fans how to get rid of badgers. I won't be popular but i can't shift the shifted ground. It's too heavy and i can't even strim it now. Hopefully though we're in for a nice week-end.
 
a foggy start but it cleared by lunch time .Went for a cycle for a couple of hours expecting it to be quiet due to the lockdown...but
there was absolutely no difference..Didn't go into town as there was no need,but there only be a handful of shops open so it will be quieter there....

Can't believe we were given no notice of having to stay home and shield. Govt sent email at 9.35pm Wednesday and i didn't know about it until Thursday. Naturally i went shopping. No shelves empty no long queue and not so many people. Was quite pleasant really. Not keen on this month long lockdown, however, our chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has decided to continue furlough scheme until the end of next March. What the hell are they trying to tell us?!
 
surprise showers this morning, not much rain but a nice surprise. Only one case of community transmission for covid in NSW today, no deaths and no new cases in Victoria for the past 8 days. Ron.
 
Most of Europe is going into second lockdown now. We really haven't got to grips with this, and what with mutated strains we should just consider this as here to stay for a while. They're now suggesting vaccines developed won't help new strains. I think we vulnerables will be spending the rest of our lives with masks on and sanitised hands. Quite depressing really.

Another day without rain. Trees are now looking very bare and virtually all autumn colours are on the ground or blowing about the place. Here comes the boring part of the year with very little colour. Looking forwards to the show of crocus and snowdrops. Occasionally they crop up by Xmas which is nice, but it's wait and see.
 
11c and misty with light showers...….my lap top gives me grief sometimes....I'm definitely NOT into technology and don't use my LT to it's full potential or even 5% of what I could be used for...It would be debatable whether or not I would replace this one if it bit the dust.
 
Same here, I don't own a smart phone, and use an older flip phone, they are nice as they slip into my pocket. I wouldn't know how to text even if my life depended on it. Technology changes too fast to keep up with the changes. I play CDs and know nothing about downloading music and the poor sound of shared music that is non CD.
Another very warm day 15C, its killed all of our snow, weakening the lake ice and it keeps dragging on like an unwelcome guest; nice weather for April, November not.

The lockdown is on again starting to make me feel low, the world is going to hell in a handcart.
The weather has been awful this last week or so heavy rain and gale force winds.
The number of fire works this year going off night after night so much for lockdown I don't know they afford them.

Showers again today and mild temps. Lows continue to pass thru the south of the country. Because they have a clockwise rotation they are dragging very hot winds from the north into the south and west of WA where there is a listing for catastrophic fire danger. It is very hot in SA and Vic. Victoria is out of lockdown with no Covid cases or deaths recorded in the last ten days. Apart from cases in quarantine from Australians returning from overseas there haven't been any cases recorded for the best part of a week.Ron.

The ice went out on the lakes yesterday as the warm spell drags on. Main roof work at the cabin is done, but some left over work still needs finishing up, but good to go. For the last three nights the telemarketer credit card scammers are calling me in the middle of the night. I'm looking for a phone line switch so that I don't have to keep unplugging the phone.
 
The last front that hit the west coast has finally reached us. It is causing storms from SE Qld thru NSW to Victoria. They are severe with strong winds. Now they have something else to warn us about. Asthma thunderstorms. The atmosphere and dust has a high pollen load at the moment and the high winds sweep the pollen into the storms where it is broken into smaller particles which can cause severe asthma attacks in both asthmatics and non asthmatics. Last time an asthma storm hit Melbourne 13 people died before they could get help. They are telling us we will be getting a covid vaccination around March. No cases in Australia today. Ron.

The weather here misty with rain it is quite windy at the moment. Carol that did sound bad ha ha, hope you & your hubby are well?.
I don't do too well on a bike, the last time I rode one i ended up in the canal very wet cycling home.
I hope it is right what they are saying about a vaccine I am still unsure what to do if offered one.

I know you will keep your face covered when you have to Ron. That's the last thing you need...500 covid deaths today. those in the know are excited about the vaccine, due here in December......why am I not excited about it ???
 
I am still waiting for my flu jab, I was warned that it might take awhile, now its been close to a month waiting. I am not going to get too excited about the pandemic vaccine until it proves itself, and it will take awhile to get it rolled out. We lost our snow, but last night we got 20 cms of fresh snow. -7C . Much better than looking out at bare conditions.
 
11c and fine again. It was very warm during the night,for me anyway. I even got a sweat on while changing the bed linen this morning.I would love to feel a fresh crisp breeze, much healthier, .But maybe I'll have to join a naturalist club first..Might have to wait until lockdowns over though.

Ron, no one wants that vaccine. I don't even do the flu jab. I always have a bad result. Hope that asthma doesn't get to you.
Buff, i'm really quite surprised that you aren't already set in snow. Wasn't expecting snow melts in your part of the world at this time. Another friend in Canada is covered in snow now and Chris seems to have it too. Glad you managed to get a bit done on the cabin roof.

Weather here hasn't been too bad today. Haven't really put the heating on all day. Probably saved a bit as i have had it on a tad more so far than i normally would. Don't know if that's the chemo having effects. Hardly any fireworks in our village this year. No i can't imagine lighting up money like that. I do love fireworks but other peoples lol.

I don't do smart phones either. I have one but need to sit and learn from youtube how to work it lol. I do have an external keyboard on this laptop as some of the keys have pinged off of it. Perhaps the cat paws are a little stressful on them. Who know, but i do need a new lappy.
 
A large storm front is approaching us this morning. It stretches from the qld border for nearly 300 kilometres. It has clouded over in the last ten minutes. The Qld made covid vaccine has entered stage 3 testing. It is looking good so far and health authorities believe that it will be particularly effective for the aged and immune compromised . Australia recorded zero new cases today and Victoria is out to 12 days without a case. Ron.
