Anyone taking cholestagel ?

I've recently been diagnosed with bile salt malabsorption after suffering with d. For about 10 years,which has been horrendous for the last 18 months! I had a sehcat scan that confirmed bile salt malabsorption. My specialist prescribed cholestagel and after 2 weeks it seems to be working wonders!! Just wondered if anyone else is taking it and if it works long term and if anyone's had any relapses whilst on it! I've read I should have vit b12 and iron deficiency test and wondered if anyone knows that the condition causes this or does the medication cause it?

Hi SARAH B, how do you take it? I've been taking it with meals but I've been getting appalling bloating. Anymore than 2 tablets a day & I feel like a balloon.

I can't help with the BSM but with regard to the aneamia and B12, if you have IBD it is pretty common to have problems with this. My ferritin is very rarely in the normal range and I have B12 injections every 12 weeks to keep my levels up as I've had a part of my small bowel removed and cannot absorb it correctly any more.
