Does anyone know why my doctor said i need a bag when I only have ulcers and a stricture and a fisture which i believe the rest of my colon should be fine . the meds don't work anymore . but I thought I would be able to just get a resection instead. My appointment with the surgen is tommorow so does anyone have any advice for me because i already have a urostomy bag and really dont want a second one. what could be the reason when i here so much about rections thanks

I think doctors should how well-bad your colon is, with Colonoscopy, Stols test, etc. You could ask for a second opinion.

There's only so much of the intestines/colon that can be removed and I don't know how much they want to take out but even if some of it can be saved doesn't mean you'll have any bowel function. I really don't know the answer to your question as I know nothing of your condition or how bad it is. Try posting or poking around in the stoma subforum through General IBD Discussion found here: http://crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46 to try to get answers from people who do have a bag/stoma.

Also, sometimes even with resection surgery we're told that we could wake up with a bag because they never know what they're going to run into until they get in there. Maybe your doc meant that? I have no idea.

Or maybe they meant a temporary stoma to allow the colon to heal some? I honestly don't know.

:ybatty:just got back last night for Doc. appointment. He said I have three opptions. One keep living like this for now . Two try and remove my whole rectum and up aways just past the stricture and bring my colon down to form a new one. Three just get a perminent bag. I still need to let him know. Its been three and a half years now with no remission and no meds working and i am a bit tired of pain and limited life. and i would prefer the second one but he said he might get in there and if its to fused together he doesnt want to put my life at risk and would have to give me a perm. bag. great i already have a perm. urostomy bag. any one else out there having trouble with paying for suppies the thought of double doesnt make me feel to great. by the way the scar tussie is from all the raidation damage.
