Since I'm new to the forum, I'd really like to get to know more people.
This is a game I've played a lot of times when introduced to new people, and I'm sure some of you have played it before as well!
It's called "Two Truths and One Lie".
The basis of the game is to write down two truths about yourself, and one lie. They could be about anything; crazy or serious. Then everyone else has to try to detect the lie.
This is a fun game because we get to know things about each other!

So, I'll start it off:

1. I am afraid of dogs, even though I have three of them.
2. I am allergic to peanuts.
3. I have never been out of state.

Which number is the lie? DUN DUN DUN.
Guess and put your three below! :)

I'm going to guess number 3 is the lie!

Mine:

1. My favorite dessert is German chocolate cake.
2. Thus far in my life, I have read and own over six hundred books.
3. I have a miniature Dachshund who often refuses to get out of bed in the mornings.

By process of elimination I know you have a dachshund which I would believe refuses to get out of bed in the morning because my dog is the same way (lol). I could see why german chocolate cake would be anyone's favorite but that seems too obvious so I'm going to say that is the lie and you HAVE read/own over 600 books.

Mine:
1.I set up/organized a fundraiser that raised over $150,000.
2.When I was in grade 4 I was the Southwestern Ontario Spelling Bee Champion!
3.I spend about 5 hours a day playing videogames
3.

Sarah: Sadly, number 3 is true. I don't live a very exciting life and I have never been more than a few hours away from my house! I'm going to say that number 2 is your lie? I love reading myself but 600 books seems like so much!

KWalker: I have to say, I'm not sure about yours. The first two sound like really awesome achievements so I'm going to choose number 3?

Lol yes number 3 is the lie. I've never been somebody to play video games. I'd rather do physical activity than sit in front of the tv for that long

You called it, KWalker!

I actually don't like chocolate or cake, so German chocolate cake doesn't really appeal to me! I have read over 600 books; I spent a lot of time sick and my mom didn't have cable or high speed internet, so I didn't have a lot of options! My dog does refuse to get up in the mornings… sometimes until his blood sugar drops and he gets sick. I have to carry him into the kitchen, shut the bedroom door, and put some applesauce on his food to convince him to eat. :(

KWalker: Whoo! My brother got me into this bout of playing video games and eventually I realized it was way too much!

Sarah: I'm sorry about your dog. :( That is so awesome that you have read that many books! Any recommendations?

Sarah: I'm sorry about your dog. :( That is so awesome that you have read that many books! Any recommendations?

Nothing to be sorry about, he's just a little wiener! :rof: Apparently it's a common issue with small dogs; they just need to eat more frequently. So twice a day is alright for him, but if he won't eat breakfast until ten or eleven, he'll start to feel bad.

I can recommend many things! What genres do you like? :)

Sarah,

That was a clever joke! :) Well, its a good thing that its not too serious and that you can get him to eat! Its funny, I would assume bigger dogs would need to eat more frequently.

Well, I loved the Harry Potter series. And books by Ellen Hopkins. So, I would say fantasy, suspense and romance?

It does seem that way, doesn't it? But since it's a blood sugar issue instead of an appetite issue, it kind of makes sense.

Have you read the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman? The first book is called The Golden Compass. It's usually found in the children's section, I believe, but please don't let that deter you! It's one of those things that you can read when you're younger, but you probably won't understand all of the underlying themes. The entire thing is really complicated when you look into it; it's absolutely fascinating.

Stephen King is always a good bet! Well, kind of. A lot of his longer novels can be kind of drawn out, so I'd suggest his short stories. Night Surf is a fantastic collection. If you want something long, The Stand is incredible - but definitely time-consuming. It goes on forever, but he definitely kept my attention. It is also pretty good. I really enjoyed Rose Madder, Hearts in Atlantis, and Lisey's Story, too.

My favorite author is Richard Laymon. His novels can be kind of hard to find (or at least they are around here). He's more horror than suspense. It's sort of an easy read, but very good. Can be mildly disturbing if those sorts of things get to you. All of his novels are fantastic, but my favorites are The Traveling Vampire Show, After Midnight, The Lake, and Island.

Bentley Little is also great. He's another horror author. The Academy and The House were especially good. Honestly, he gets under my skin more than any other author. Chuck Palahniuk is good, too. Not horror, just creepy and hilarious! He wrote Fight Club. I'd recommend Choke and Survivor.

On the other side of the spectrum, Jodi Picoult is great. Have you read My Sister's Keeper, or seen the movie? It's a very, very touching story. I've liked most of hers that I've read, especially Nineteen Minutes, The Pact, and Handle With Care.

I love Gregory Maguire, as well. Are you familiar with Wicked? That's a fantastic book (although honestly, I didn't enjoy the rest of the series - but that's just me!). Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is a fantastic story about the real meaning of beauty. It's a spin on Cinderella, of course. Mirror, Mirror is a re-telling of Snow White; I like that one, too.

I'm currently reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. I'd definitely recommend it, as well.

And, of course, A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R. R. Martin. It's also referred to as the title of the first book, A Game of Thrones. Incredible, incredible series. The TV show based on it is great, as well! :)

I can't think of any more right now, but hopefully that'll keep you busy for a while. If you do read any of them, let me know how you liked them! I love to talk about books.

Ok, I will try.....let's see.....

1) Speaking in sibling/birth order, I am the baby, and also the middle child.

2) I have a degree in psychology.

3) My friends would describe me as "serious".

CLynn, I'm going to guess that 3 is the lie?

I don't understand 1, but I was going to post something about how I have a younger sister, whose mom is my stepsister, so I'm thinking it's possible. Complicated stuff happens!

You nailed it, 3 was the lie, lol! Well, I am my mom's baby, but my dad's middle child, if that makes sense at all, lol!

Sarah,

That you for all of the suggestions! My mom actually just bought some Stephen King books so I will see if I have any of the ones you listed.

Wasn't the book The Golden Compass made into a movie? I could have sworn I saw a movie entitled that too! I would definitely not be turned off to children books; I mean, some of the most interesting books are in that category!

I did see the movie My Sister's Keeper and it was really good. I did check out The Pact one time but never got around to reading it before I had to return it. So maybe I will give it another shot.

Macguire: did he write the play Wicked? The musical?

I do like horror books too. There was one book I read a few years back called The Heart-Shaped Box. I cannot rememeber who the author is, but it was really good and if you like horror/suspense you would probably enjoy that! :)

Thanks for all the suggestions!

The Golden Compass was made into a movie, yes. The book is much, much better, though!

Gregory Maguire wrote the novel Wicked, on which the musical was based, I do believe. :)

What a great idea for a thread! :)

Clynn, #1 was very clever. I couldn't figure that out but figured it wasn't a lie.

Mine:

1. I used to be a professional baseball player.
2. I used to be army special forces (Green Beret).
3. I occasionally have night terrors where I think bugs or animals are in or near my bed and I jump out of bed because of it.

Hmm David, I could see how 2 and 3 could potentially go together but I would guess you were/still are pretty active. I'm going to say 1 is the lie

Heheh. #2 is the lie. I wanted to be a Green Beret. A "Medical Sergeant" specifically because the training the receive is AMAZING. It's pretty easy to get your PA after you leave the army with their training. I trained to become one but just before I went in the army I overdid it and messed up my knee. While in the army I knew I wasn't going to make it which was depressing so ended up getting discharged :(

#1 - I played professionally for the Arizona Diamondbacks. I never made it to the majors, so no big deal.

#3 - The most recent one was a rat was climbing down a rope from the ceiling into our bed. My wife barely even stirs anyone :D

I'm going to go with #2 for the lie with David. Maybe the night terrors are from the time in the jungles of Hawaii and you mentioned being a jock? All of you guys have had really good ones!

Sarahbear, 600 books is awesome!!! I love to read too! Have you ever read any of Christopher Moore's books? Really great, witty writing! I love the Bloodsucking Fiends triliogy which includes Bite Me and You Suck. Strange titles, I know, but really good!

Amberly, this awesome!!

1. I like trains. I used to love to climb trains as a teen and run up and down the tops of them.
2. My husband and I just sold 17,000 music CDs that he had collected since his late teens.
3. I spend the majority of my time working from home as a telemarketer.

I love trains!!! I used to climb trains all the time as a teen! But yeah, David you are right I'm no telemarketer at home or otherwise. But uhhhh...just for future reference in case anyone needs to know...you don't get near as much for 17,000 CDs(some used, some never opened) as you spent for them!!!:ymad:

I figured it was #3. You're just too nice to be a telemarketer. ;)

Yeah, CDs value has really plummeted with the advent of mp3 players. :(

Clash,

That is so cool that you used to do that with trains! I always see it in the movies and it looks like such an adreline rush! :)

I had a friend we helped get on top of the train and we played around for most of the afternoon, then we all started climbing down, which is absolutely no big deal but she couldn't do it. She would not climb down, nothing we said or no matter how we coaxed, she just froze up, catatonic, sitting there on top of this train. It was crazy!

Let me give this a try.

1. I have 8 children.
2. I've been to China
3. I live in the middle of 80 acres of land.

Oh no! I've had the happen to me before! My friend and I were climbing a fence to get into her backyard and at the top I froze and couldn't move. It was both hilarious and awful.

I'd imagine being suck on a train would be worse though.

Haha! Yeah we still laugh about it. We were even laughing then but she still wasn't coming down! It was that crazy, nervous laughter that you can't control!

Dukeis, hmmm...#3?

Once upon a time I raised Registered Red Angus cattle, but that seems like a life time ago. Between the Crohn's and possible AS I sold them all off.

We eventually had to go get her older brother and he was able to haul her down from the train....physically because she was literally not budging! That was her last train adventure.

Well at least she finally got down! It's funny how our bodies can instantly lock up like that. You'd think we have more control.

My turn, my turn...let's see

1. I am a microbiologist by trade.
2. I eat a bowl of sugar snap peas every day...yum.
3. My dad was 30 years older than my mom!

~Kat~

Heheh. #2 is the lie. I wanted to be a Green Beret. A "Medical Sergeant" specifically because the training the receive is AMAZING. It's pretty easy to get your PA after you leave the army with their training. I trained to become one but just before I went in the army I overdid it and messed up my knee. David that is very impressive (and very funny!) :)

I LOVE this game, me and my friends play it when we meet new people lol.

Here are my 3....

1. I never learned how to ride a bike.
2. I have traveled to 4 different Continents in my lifetime.
3. I shared a meal with a Broadway playwright.

you are correct

2 Truths:
1 - I never learned how to ride a bike (and I'm not gonna try now, either! lol).
3 - I had breakfast with a broadway playwright the day after seeing her play in New York City

1 Lie:

I have not traveled to 4 continents. I have, however, been almost everywhere in North America (almost all 50 States, Canada, Caribbean). Hope to change that very soon! :)

I'll do an easy one...

1. I took 28 credits my last semester of college and got a B or higher in all of them. (9 classes)
2. I drive 600 miles every other week just to have fun.
3. I got my first tattoo a month ago on the most sensitive body part and it didn't hurt at all.

Well its physically impossible to take 28 credits in one year so I'm going to say 1 is the lie.

Wait, I didn't see the 9 classes. How do you get 25 credits from 9 classes? Is that a thing in the states? I know here 1 class = 1 credit

1 class here can be 2 credits like a PE class or 3 credits like an Eng. class or 1 credit like a lab

It was #2 that was a lie. I do though drive like 100 to hangout with friends twice a month but no where close to 600.

And yeah, here a class usually equals 3 credits. There are also 1.5 credit classes. And my last semester I was behind in credits and instead of pushing graduation and taking summer classes, I talked to advisors and administrators and managed to fit 9 classes in one semester, it was hectic.

I could not imagine that many classes in one semester! I can barely handle the 12 units I'm taking now.

Fun game...here's mine
I gave up a baby at 17 for adoption and we were reunited 30 years later.
I once chased a shoplifter a mile before the police arrived to arrest him.
5 cats let me live with them

Ok without really guessing anyone elses I will put out three of my own fact or fiction items . . . . .

1) Im so scared of cemetaries that I refuse to look at them when I drive by them.
2) I have been in the army for over 10 years.
3) When I was in high school I was a cheer leader :)

marjaw: 1
gigamis: 2

1. I have 4 cats.
2. I don't play video games.
3. I sold my marble sculpture (that I made) for $1,500.

Number 3 is true. The marble block was free (was an old pedestal from a museum) so I didn't have to charge for materials plus I was still a student at the time and students don't make as much as professional artists.

Is it 3 gigamis?

I was in dance and loved to dance and cheer at games, but I was never a cheer leader. Im shocked nobody guessed the first one. If I knew your age I would have a better idea for the remaining two choices. If you are my age then probably 2 is false, if you are over 35 probably 1 is false

Crabby number 2:) NES nintendo!

Mine:
1. I've woken up in the middle of the night with a cockroach on my face before.
2. I have never traveled outside of the United States.
3. I tried to kiss my kindergarten teacher.

Yep 2 is false. You saw that on the chat Gianni. ;) I'm 30 gigamis so you got it! :D

I'm gonna say #2 Gianni. I have a hard time believing that you haven't done some traveling.

Thanks for the invite Clash! This is fun, I will give it a try.

1. I have met 40+ famous musical artists.
2. I am a ghost hunter
3. I have a collection of over 200 bottles of nail polish, and 300 bottles of perfume

:D

Sarah, you got it. I am not 'Officially' a ghost hunter. I do hunt them on my own, but the hubby wont let me join our local team, as he worries something will attatch itself to me!!! I want to be a ghost hunter though!

Numbers 1 & 3, very true! :)

Its really not that scary. Even if you encounter an evil spirit, there are ways of making it leave. I have encountered mainly residual haunts though. Ive had atleast a few trying to get MY attention though, and thats pretty cool. I may seem like a kook to some people...I know that. But even the house I live in is haunted. :)

Lets give this a shot,
1. I'm 13 years older than i look
2. I've been with my husband for 33 years
3. I get my beauty rest from 10 pm to 7 am

acheallova #3 sounds like a lie.

1. I like reading.
2. When I was a kid I took 12 pills a day.
3. I need it to be quiet when I go to sleep.

3 is a lie Gianni. I need a fan on when I go to sleep. Gotta have white noise. :D

I want to try!

1. I have been kicked off a Hollywood movie set
2. I tried out for the TV show "Fear Factor"
3. I have been to Canada.

I was going to say #3 too crabby. Yes. #3 of mine is as well. I only sleep from 1 am to 4 am if I'm lucky. Love insomnia!!!

Italy sounds absolutely amazing! Did you get to see all the landmarks?
I want to see the Colosseum!

yep. its number 3!

1. I was in New Mexico with my family when they were fliming the movie "Crazy Heart" with Jeff Bridges. We acciedently walked into the area when they were fliming. The director got really mad at us. lol and we got to meet Jeff Bridges too! :)

2. Yes, I tried out for Fear Factor the live show, but they would not let me becasue I was too short for the harness :(

3. Never been to Canada, but would like to one day

1. I'm a mother of 4, 3 girls 1 boy
2. My children raise animals to butcher
3. Our German shepards go out every night at 2 am
- hugs-

Angel, for some reason I am leaning to 1 or 3 being the non truth...

Its number 2 miss Cheryl. Isn't that weird. My pups do think that their scheduled time to go out is 2 am for some reason. Think they got mom trained.....lol
I am a mother of 4 technically, but i lost my son at 5 weeks. :(. My girls do raise animals and when i was raised, we butchered everything we raised up; however, there dad will have no such thing done as there almost 300 piglet has become a family member.

I think everything has been answered - so here is a new one:

1. At the age of 8 I spent my Sunday's at Billingsgate Fish Market in London.
2. At the age of 18 I was in a television ad for Heinz Soup.
3. At the age of 28 my Honeymoon flight had a major engine failure.

CLynn, I'm going to guess that 3 is the lie?

I don't understand 1, but I was going to post something about how I have a younger sister, whose mom is my stepsister, so I'm thinking it's possible. Complicated stuff happens!

Sarah, I got to laughing when I thought about what you wrote, it made me think of a country song called I'm My Own Grandpa
