What is YOUR weather like today??

I hope to have a paddle soon. My back has kept me off the water two long tho the gods may be trying to tell me something. On the news tonight was the story of a young guy who went fishing just offshore from Caloundra this morning . A four meter plus tiger shark grabbed his kayak from below. He spent 40 minutes in the water beside his mostly submerged kayak with the shark still circling. The local surf lifesavers answered his distress call and came out on a jetski and picked him up. One lucky fisherman. Ron.

I enjoy canoeing, but the idea of going out into shark infested waters would be a big turn off for me. The young man can count his blessings, it must have been a terrible experience. I still get nightmares from those times I have been stalked by black bear, they are incidents that never leave one's mind. Having said that it does not stop me from enjoying the wilderness, but I hold respect for its hidden threats.

Yep,we have wildlife stalkers too, but of the two legged sort.....far safer with the four legged creatures.Do you know what ? this post brought to mind the last time I was out after dark, and I can't remember how long ago that was. It's got to be years hahaha.

Foggy damp start but now just grey skies.Mild though.

Yesterday it was mild at the freezing mark, but what an improvement another additional 5 cms of snow and fresh colder air can bring. I am going to drive my snowmobile and see how the new track performs this afternoon.

Wasn't too bad yesterday, but today it's been continual drizzle and really dark and gloomy. Can't observe the Leonids tonight as it's still drizzling with low cloud cover. About to get colder from now on i hear. Not cold like Buff i hope, and i'd rather have Ron's weather.

We actually have some cloud and possible showers and storms today. I doubt that they will happen , can only hope. 28 c for the next few days. Ron.

No rain today, but it's the last of our reasonable weather before hitting lower single figure temps. I shouldn't be complaining. It's hardly Canadian weather.

8c grey start but the sun is trying very hard to join us.I have washing on the line just hanging there aimlessly.I remember when I was a kid,our washing would come off the line stiff and frozen in winter, then would thaw indoors and become wet again.

RON...Scott bought a boat yesterday.Looks like aluminium with a bar across the mid section ? Only seen a pic.so no details.Not happy,but what's a Ma to do ?

Sounds like a boat for the river Carol. If he sticks to the rivers his biggest danger is getting bitten by a crab. Having said that there was another shark attack today on a southern NSW beach. He survived but another man died on a Tasmanian beach this afternoon. He suffered heart failure after being hit in the lower abdomen by a stingray barb.
We had some massive storm cells come thru on a 250 km front. We got wind , lightning and heavy rain. Ron.

-11C. The temps are going up and down. In a few days it should be 0C again. Not much snow, but the sidewalks are icy and I had a minor fall coming home from the grocery store. Luckily landed on my knees, I'm terrified of breaking a hip.

I went up and down the road and through the yard on the snowmobile and it rides and handles like a new machine. There is not enough snow yet for the trails given the rough terrain. Perhaps the next big storm will cure that.

Careful with the falling Tuff. With osteoarthritis in my bones I feel the same way, falling is not an option, I take care to make sure my footing is good and it can be challenging at this time of year when a skiff of snow can cover dangerous ice.

-15C partly cloudy. I shoveled the parking area yesterday, perhaps today I will set up the long cord for the block heater. The nights are getting cold enough that I should plug in for a couple hours before starting the engine when I go out. It saves money on fuel and engine wear.

-18 and sunny. On Friday it's supposed to go up to +5. Our temps go up and down all year round because of the lake, and wind direction.

7c and damp....the powers that be are unsure whether it's going to cool down or warm up.
Best just to stand outside for a few minutes then make your own mind up....

Chris, I have used those battery blankets too, they are really good when one has a battery that is older but refuses to die, extending the battery life by a good bit even a few years.

On and other wintery note, some people have infrared heating lamps for their outhouse comfort. But since I have a colostomy I spend little time in there to feel the cold. One advantage to being a 'bagger'.
-18C and I only had to wear slippers to the outhouse, an invigorating way to start the day.

I google imaged ice candles. They are so nice i wish we had proper winters too. Mind, i'd soon be complaining. I love being a weather whinging Brit. Ron, i hope you didn't have to be bailing out your flat again. But nice you had some rain.

A tad chillier today but not as bad as they predicted.

Temps going up to 36c by sunday with hot nw winds. There has been a pattern of alternating hot and cool changes this summer. It is a bit unusual as for several years we have had warm winters and consistently hot summers. I am noticing a lot of people with late colds and flu this year. Ron.

Short sharp showers inbetween brief sunny spells.7c but feeling a lot colder in the wind....so my hubby says.I'm having a lazy day indoors.

D., if you've still got fish in the pond don't forget to float a ball on the surface so you can make an air hole when/if it freezes.

-23C overnight, now we have flurries. This cold is a bit unusual for this time of year, but it is giving the lakes a head start on ice development. One more good snow and we could start using the trails.

very very hot wind blowing out of the north west. Everybody is tired and cranky, too hot to sleep and too hot to work. Went to the skin doctor this afternoon. Nothing to get cut out this year..Bonus. Ron.

Good news Ron, and not about your weather.I well remember that heat.Getting out of the car was like stepping into an oven...….It was a wild night here, rain and hail rattling the window panes and a strong wind.It seems to be calming down now (10-30am) but the 5c temp feels much colder.

Feeling for you Ron50. Trying to function as a human, and an unwell one, is hard in the extremes of weather. Stay as normal as you can, never over do things. We are only humans, and unwell ones. Hmm, i know Crohns unwell. I can't do excessive any heat. I feel for all of you, Buff, Mack, Ron. I am lucky.

So today i was slightly better. Just a few extra questrans and codeine tablets and off i went today with friends. Winchester Christmas market. So, i can report, it was cold out. i feel the place could have had a few more outside sitting benches. i don't walk well with RA and in this weather. Omg, when in a new area i look up and down and in anyone's shop window or Christmas Market stall. All that external looking stuff it puts my mind into Zombie mode. I can't seem to take so much external stimulation. I only need to know where the loo's are, lol. Also a lot of sitting down due to fatigue. The hustle and bustle isn't really for me. Though i feel i've been bold. I went and survived Winchester Xmas market.

I have put a ball in the pond, Carol. How heavy does a ball have to be to be able to retrieve it out of the pond to leave that hole? I've only found a fly weight ball in my tree. Some child put it there and it was almost hidden. I've never had a child knock on my door and ask for it back. So, that ball, rainbow colours remains unclaimed for months. i have put it in my pond. probably it needs the dog solid ball that you know to throw, carol. i need a ball that isn't light enough to sit 'on' the water. I need one rubber ball that is heavy enough to put itself half in and half out. i don't want fish death this year. It makes me sad when bigger gold fish that enjoyed my pond for a few years die and have to let go of our world. God, i'm sentimental about nature, my friends. Love the nature you are born to. That's what i think. It's better than materialism.
might be -7C here in the UK (South Northants). Won't be Canada's problem (or normal even). Just we Brits loving to 'talk' about our weather. thanks, world wide friends on this forum. I care. Bless you and the nature that surrounds you. We aren't the only species of the animal kingdom.

Another hot day but we are expecting rain and storms. Winds starting out NE-NW but then shifting to SW for a couple of days, We never get SW winds in summer they only blow in winter. Usually in winter the high pressure systems come across southern Australia and lows across Qld giving us cold westerlies and in summer the highs move north and cross southern Qld. There will be no cool change with this S westerly it is blowing hot air from central New South Wales . Hope you are feeling better soon Di , it is so hard to get enthusiastic about anything when you have chronic health problems, Ron.

It's -6c here and falling. I think the ball has to be floating less than half-way into the water, Di, or it may be a challenge to remove (push back in?). I wouldn't try a lacrosse ball for instance... except to massage into knots in my back... I hope everything for you and the fish pond works out great. Big hugs.

-C

3c and very very wet.Hubby's clearing the shed NOT BEFORE TIME EITHER.I mean who needs seven hammers ? and he can never find anything,

Di., it's trial and error and also depends on temps. If it's not too icey you should be able to twist the ball and take it out.Check during the day and put it back if it's icing over, and at night of course if the temps dropping. We cover our fish with a duvet wrapped in garbage bags laid on top of sterling board or hard board.....And they get tea and toast in the morning.

I wonder if it would not be too much trouble to put a bubbler in the pond to prevent it from freezing up and it would add the needed oxygen into the pond for the fish.

You would need power Buff, and if you had power a heater would work.We just have to hope the fish go into torpid mode and survive...…..

I see, this is not simply a pond out in the back yard where one could run an extension cord from the house. I hope things work out, as I know how hard it can be to fight back at winter. I still have not found a way to win a round with old man winter other than to work with him and hope the wood pile makes it through to spring.

Well, i've been completely knackered after my trip yesterday. I've noticed the skin on my abdomen where i have my stricture gets very sore and sensitive, although it's never been red sore. Weird. I've not had that before.

The flyweight ball did the trick this morning but i shall have to get a more solid one i think. I think mine would love the duvet, tea and toast treatment too, lol. That really made me laugh.

Today was icy this morning, then fog for the whole day. How gloomy it has been! Hope tomorrow i can see a bit of the world (at least out my window).

Hot and dry winds . Several bushfires have started up and we have a severe dust storm that originated in far west NSW and reached us this morning. I thought I might go out in the Yak tomorrow morning as the wind has died off tonight but I hurt my back getting the kayak ready. Back to nerve spasms in my lower back and right hip. We don't seem to have a win too often our little group of weather mages. Ron.

1C gray damp raw and miserable. There is a big difference between the dry cold calm sunny conditions and when it gets damp and milder near the freezing mark with the wind blowing. My bones don't like this dampness nor do I.

Woke to strong westerly winds, temps 31-3 c . Still very dusty. Medical warnings out for those with asthma and respiratory problems. Extreme fire danger. Ron.

Another damp, dull day. My bones are feeling it too. December in a week. Winter will really start. I'm hoping for a mild one this year. I don't suppose my luck runs that way though.

Some wet snow, soggy weather, nothing could burn outside, wish I could save some for the dry season and send it over Ron's way. The cat has the right idea by sleeping, I may do the same later. Its one of those days when I cannot get going.

Cats got the right idea Buff,I'd follow his lead if I were you.

7c and sunny...of course I had a little whinge about the low lying sun shining in my eyes...

It was a nice day here today... Considering the time of year. I hope you all get one like it tomorrow, or else sometime soon. It's -3c tonight and expected to be fairly mild tomorrow. Hockey and The Grey cup have got me hooked for tomorrow. The Grey cup, for those of you who aren't familiar is... Well.. It's contested between the winners of the CFL's (Canadian Football League) East and West Divisional playoffs and is one of Canadian television's largest annual sporting events. :) Kinda like the Superbowl In the U.S.A. -Go Stamps!!! ;)

Hot day and even hotter week coming up. Temps on the east coast of Qld are expected to range from 35-40c. a major fire is burning between Bundaberg and Gladstone. It is burning one of my favourite fishing spots ,baffle creek . They said that even water bombers were unable to extinguish the flames , they were so hot. Homes have been lost . not sure how many but all residents have been told to evacuate. Ron.

We have sunshine! I feel better for that. I had a really bad off day yesterday and was on the sofa all day with my cats. I can see the daffs popping up through soil. I'm hoping it's a good sign.

Stay safe Ron, it's not just the flames. The smoke is a nasty pollution to contend with. Carol, fancy having to whinge about the low sun. Is that on the bike, cos i hate driving with a low sun. Just can't see and it's quite distressing.

going to pick the last apples of my tree. Who wants them? I bet like me you can't eat them either, lol.

It was walking D., when I'm on Little Blackie I wear a base ball cap pulled right down over my eyes, but I'm too decrepit to wear one while walking, alas. We waste apples from our tree.Hubby likes a pie but the birds get what they want...….just read this post back and I don't wear my cap so far down that I can't see, obv…….hahaha

-10 blustery with a flurry. Last night I almost lost my chicken to the weasel. I roasted a chicken and then covered it with plastic wrap and placed it outside to chill while I ate dinner. Lucky thing I needed to step out, and caught the critter in the act. He already drilled a hole into the breast, a few more minutes and it would have been gone.
I took it in, trimmed away the damage and placed the chicken into the fridge. The uninvited dinner guest ate well last night.

6c and damp again...…..weather forecast on tv at the moment and they're forecasting an all round 5c rise in temps by 2070.....I'll wait until 2068 before I worry about it though.
Stress isn't good for crohnies.

Carol, i think we need to hurl our apples over to Canada for the weasels, lol. Perhaps they'll stay away from a chicken. I think the weasel has you sussed now, Buff. He'll be around for Sunday lunch through Winter. Wildlife love it when we make life easy for them.

Dull but dry. This time next month Christmas will be over. I don't know what happened to the year but it's vanished fast. Local towns had Christmas light switch ons this weekend. I expect the houses will soon follow suit. I do like a bit of sparkle in these long evenings.

The weasel made the rounds on the deck last night at about the same time as the previous night. No meal for him this time. I'll stop putting anything out to break the chain. I often feed the birds left overs, but the problem with doing this is that it brings in the unwanted critters.

Heatwave conditions , we reached thirty five yesterday and a couple of the coastal areas up north reached mid forties thanks to the unseasonal westerly winds. Fires are still burning out of control in quite a few areas. A large contingent of southern state firefighters are arriving this morning to help exhausted local firefighters. There is not many parts of the state that does not have active fires at the moment. Ron.

!00 southern state fire fighters turned up today. Just in time . There are now around 100 wildfires burning across the state. Homes have been lost at Deepwater and baffle creek and this after noon there was a bad one burning on the outskirts of Mackay which has destroyed some homes. The authorities have said there is a front moving in from the west. Unfortunately the front has a lot of storms embedded in it but there is no rain with them they are all dry electrical storms and goodness knows how many more fires will be started. It is not even the start of summer. Things are not looking good for the central coast and tablelands. Ron.

Stay safe Ron.Scarey stuff.....Big change here since this morning. It seems to have got dark all of a sudden and very windy and cold. All the trees are bare now.Glad I'm in for the day.

Our weather is going crazy this week Carol. Sydney airport is closed this morning with torrential rain ,high winds and lightning. They are expecting over 200 mm of rain today.
We are on a catastrophic fire alert in Qld. Disaster management is afraid that the fires north of Bundaberg may turn into a firestorm today. When that happens the fire starts to generate its own winds and will become almost impossible to fight. There is no prospect of rains just strong w/n/w winds and dry electrical storms with a lot of areas suffering temps in the mid 40'sc. We are being advised to stay inside and drink extra fluid. Ron.

A windy wet night, and my cat arguing with another just made the noise worse, lol. It's certainly colder here. But i think i'd rather that than have to suffer threats of such fire storms. I've seen some on YouTube channels, Ron. Stay safe.

Another mad day Di . Several more towns had to be evacuated in central Qld today. As feared the dry electrical storms started a lot of fires. At one stage there were over 200 separate fires burning along the Qld east coast . A catastrophic fire warning ( never before issued in Qld) is in force for the central coast and adjacent highlands and coal fields. The temps are not expected to drop until some time towards the end of next week. cairns has never had a temp of over 40 in November. The last three days have all been mid 40 c. In the mean time Sydney received 118 mm of rain in two hours this morning. The airport was under water and flights in and out have only started again this evening. We had 37c in Nambour today and at one stage the humidity was around 14%. Five miles away on the coast it was 89%. We have another cloud of dust heading in from out west. They said visibility was down to less than a kilometre in some of the towns it hit. Interesting times NOT! Ron.

Scott has 40c today north of Kalgoorlie and is looking forward to a cooling 28c tonight.

He's imaging what our 10c wet and windy day is like here and wants to come home.
Don't over excert yourself Ron,but you don't need me to tell you that.

Personally, and it's got nothing to do with religion (I don't have one) or global warming etc.I think our planet is showing signs of having run it's course and is warning us we've not long to go.....

Ron that's rough, I hope your safe. I wonder if it is climate change or if we are now witnessing the greater cycles of weather events that we are not prepared for. We often thought the planet was predictable and safe, but it is far from that. At the moment things are very quiet around here, -10C a few gentle flurries, I'll take it, for I know how angry and terrifying mother nature can become and how helpless we are.

Another 5 days of heatwave predicted and now they are saying a cyclone may develop in the Coral sea by Sunday. Thousands evacuated up and down the Qld coast with 120 fires still out of control. One small town on the mainland opposite Fraser island is completely isolated by fires with no way out except boats. So far no lives have been lost. The fire fighters have been doing an incredible job. Goodness knows they get plenty of practice in Australia. Ron.

On the news last night they showed Australia as a land of both fires and floods, take care Ron. Quiet here, expecting some light snow. I read an article that scientists cannot explain the strange seismic event that took place in the Indian ocean that has rippled around the planet many times. So much that we don't know about the Earth. Maybe it isn't the gentle stable planet we thought it was.

I think this is the Pole Shift. I too read about the underground volcano in the Indian Ocean that rippled around the world. That's just a tad scary. We don't know what damage they can do, nor where they are. That weather is disastrous, Ron. I've seen it on the news too. Awful. Stay safe.

Carol, i think you are right. I feel sorry not so much for the humans, but for nature. There again, we are as helpless as a blade of grass when it comes to this planet and its antics.

Wet and windy today. Not so cold either.

Have we no Lynda, nor Ronroush? I hope they are fine.

I have to agree, I have no sympathy for human greed and how they have transformed our great Boreal forest into nothing more than tree farms and dead zones. In my life time living here this rich forest was full of moose, and our waterways were great places to fish. That is no longer the case.
Our forests were proud, then came the noise of the heavy machinery with huge saws rolling through for the past 30 years like locusts. Now the silence has returned, but the proud forests and rich wildlife are gone it will never be the same.

What I fear most now is the poor health of the remaining vegetation and the potential wild fire risk it presents. I think the planet is on the verge of Armageddon, it will be mother natures revenge upon human ignorance.
Sorry for the rant. I too wonder where Ronrouch is, and others who have not posted in awhile.

I was not surprised to see overnight that there had been a major quake in Alaska. We had some comments a couple of months back regarding quakes along the Canadian and Alaskan coasts . I hope that this one has released some pressure without causing too much damage and injury. Some of the reports I have seen look alarmingly like the last big quake in Anchorage where alluvial clays liquefied under roads . I noticed today one road that had just collapsed into a hole.
A lot of fires still burning here. A southerly change came thru that allowed firefighters to gain ground . Unfortunately critical fire conditions are returning for the remainder of next week. Ron.

Buff what a great post,it almost brought tears to my eyes. Can I also mention the people who are paying vast amounts of money to murder Africa's wildlife and posing on social media with the corpse.A lot of them being women / girls.I have no problem with folk hunting for food if they need to,but for enjoyment is just sickening......6c and tipping it down. It's 1-30pm and the rain hasn't stopped all morning.

I wish I knew how RonRush is.I understood he was taking a break but it's been a while now..

PS.....I don't do social media but our newspapers often print references and pics.re the "hunters"

Ah, how i mourn the planets wildlife! Haven't seen a blackbird in months here. No hedgies either. Most will be going into hibernation but some rescues still post pics of the babies needing to be rescued.

Really grotty weather here. So dull and drizzly. Well, it's December and around 109 days to go until Spring, lol. I'm counting down the next 3 weeks until it's the shortest day of the year.

Glad the firefighters are gaining some ground, Ron. Alaska looks like it suffered that 7.0 quake. The roads just collapsed. Mind, the mayor says they were always as prepared as they could be.

I can never understand why anybody would trophy hunt and mount a rare magnificent animal on the living room wall of their house. Its ignorant, pure greed power and control.
Hunting and gathering for food is an entirely other thing. I have done my share of hunting and fishing in my lifetime, but I always passed on taking larger animals and released the bigger fish, for these are the ones that reproduce and keep the gene pool healthy.

A fresh 2'' of snow here and just below freezing. I used to hunt, now not so much... I would consider doing it again though... Wild meat is free from a lot of the junk in their commercially raised counterparts. It's not just Ontario's forest, Buff. The forest here has lost much of the population of ungulate species, and moose in particular. It's past time that someone in government should be paying attention. What would Canada be without the great moose?

The weather is slightly better here. There is a brightness about that has been missing recently. If only this island didn't have such low cloud cover we would all be happier, I'm sure. It's not so cold either.

I'd love to just live off the land, Cmack. Sounds lovely. No over indulgence on overly processed foods. Just normal basic foods. Veg, home grown, meat without antibiotics/steroids etc and a bit of fish that isn't farmed and fed by men in hazmat suits. We can only dream. I have liquid feed mainly though, lol.

Well,we had a cycle along the river this morning,in the rain. But the plus side is,it wasn't windy !!! Yaaaaay. Now we are home and the gear is drying on the radiators....and the sun's shining,an hour before dusk. Not too cold at 10c.

=6C with a fresh wind out of the north east, on the gray side. This kind of weather reminds me of mid March when we get this type of wind. Its on the drier side but not too cold.

We hit 37c yesterday with lots of smoke in the air. Stradbroke , one of the Moreton bay islands has been burning for nearly a week and we and Brisbane have been wearing the smoke. Medical alerts out for heat and smoke. The ambulance treated a lot of people over the weekend . Still around 100 fires burning across the state. The worst is still around deepwater/baffle creek. A young firefighter was killed there on the weekend when a tree fell on him. Hot again today. We may get some relief by Thursday. Ron.

Sounds awful, Ron. I'm glad we don't have that. But i still envy you your 'warmth'.

Heavy showers today. Intermittent sunshine, slight chilly wind and lanes around here have a ton of water on them, hate that i can't see the potholes.

Those fires were on the news again last night it looks like a war zone. Hang in there Ron. Seasonal temperatures, near -10C but snow cover is thin for the time of year.

Hot and humid today with a chance of thunderstorms then cooling for a couple of days and a chance of some light rain. The heat really wiped me out on the weekend and I woke on Monday with a bout of vertigo. It seems to go with the hot weather with me. I had Monday off but I was able to get some stemetil into me early and spent the day in a dark room. Feeling a bit better today but still well short of good. Ron.

-7C this evening. We don't have much snow, rain last week melted most of it off. It's supposed to go up to 0C again soon. We may have a green Christmas at this rate. The indoor air is very dry. The cats don't like it when sparks fly when I pet them. I got the humidifier going and it's helping.

Huge thunder storm laden front came thru this afternoon . It covered from Rockhampton down to Brisbane and dumped a heap of rain on quite a few fires,. The folk from the deepwater area have been allowed back home, The landscape is devastated but the firies have been able to save all but a couple of homes and farm sheds. Incredible effort. They should be able to sleep soundly tonight in their own homes knowing that the storms have put out all of the hotspots. Ron.

Scott followed an electric storm for four hours travelling from Perth to Kalgoorlie yesterday.Luckily it was going in his direction so he held back. Then there was torrential rain and SNOW !!! I The snow didn't lie in the wet,but he felt a bit homesick...…

6c and tipping it down,here...

Carol that sounds like the proverbial snowballs chance in hell. We did not get any snow but we got some heavy rain in some areas. Our coral sea cyclone lasted two days and disappeared as quickly as it arrived. A couple of mag 7 earthquakes out near new Caladonia yesterday. It set off tsunami warnings. A couple of small waves were detected but nothing dangerous. I think you would have to be part physic to be a weather forecaster over here of late. Ron.
