18C Sunshine after a couple of cold gloomy wet days, I had to put the fire on to take the chill out of the house last night. Our numbers have been going down, but the number of variants are on the rise. They are slowly opening things and allowing for small gatherings, it will be seen if its light at the end of this long tunnel, or the train.
Oh,what I wouldn't give for a cold gloomy day......

20c and rising.....yipeee. Ron I've got my hot water bottle in the fridge, chilling of course. Also a t-towel/dish dryer soaked and in the freezer. Look after yourself friend, and make sure all your "stuff" is in easy reach.Fill a thermos with warm sweet tea or whatever, if you need it during the night..Di.'s going to send you her old thermals and leccy blanket....

Bufford, I hear ya on the flies!

We get some monster flying circus animals out here as well
... four of them could easily carry off a buick

i think they are responsible for carrying off tools at times (either that or i'm getting old and cant remember where I set stuff outside, lol )

I've been having some luck trapping the flying bastiges recently
I don't like chemicals, either sprayed into the air or applied to my skin, so I experimented with various other approaches
I found something that really works

requires;
two liter plastic soda bottle
box cutter / razor knife

Cut around the bottle even with the top of the label until you have the top cut clean off (looks like a funnel now)
Place something smelly in the bottom of the bottle (dog poop works well)
invert the cut off cone back into the bottle so it's like a funnel leading into the bottle

The bastiges fly in down the cone, but aren't smart enough to fly to the center to get back out.
... they will just fly around and around inside until they drop from exhaustion
If you peel the label off and place it in direct sunlight, they will expire fairly quickly,
When its full, bag it up in a sealeable bag, and toss it in the trash

It takes so many out of the breeding cycle, that within a month, you will hardly see any of them
You will be amazed how well it works!

... works a treat, without chemicals to boot!

I have a different approach to the skeeeters that I can write up if you would like (it's a bit more involved)

That is getting warm Lynda. The difference I have found between extremes of hot and cod is that normally when it is cold I can usually find a way to get warm. When it is 40c + there is no way I can get cool apart from going down to the airconditioned shopping centre . Then you have to leave it and get into the car which is 50c. I don't have aircon at home and all a fan does is push the hot air around. I particularly hate heatwaves where you have to try to get to sleep in 100f + temps. It is overcast today with a max 20c. Ron.

Newspaper pics of yesterday heatwave in the south showed beaches crammed with folk and not a grain of sand to be seen. We're expecting a month added to the present "lockdown" funny that......
A lot cooler here in the north today,17c full cloud and breezy so had a cycle out as storms on the way mid week. Enjoyed your post T-Bone.

16C, Hot it is not, but when it does get hot I don't venture too far from the main floor of the house that is cooled by the window airconditioner. We could use some heat right now to help knock down the biting flies. I have heard about these various traps and devices to control the little buggers. I tried the one where shiny pennies when placed in a clear bottle or bag repel barn and poop flies. I found that hanging a glass bottle works best inside my outhouse. The flies stay away as it mimics the eye of predators.

20c and breezy,No storms until Thursday but we really need some rain.....Lockdown extended until 3rd week in July.It only means no inside eating and boozing,no theatre etc. so not much change really. But 1,000s have been allowed into football stadiums and onto beaches etc so where's the logic in that ?

This morning there was a three hour torrential downpour and a temp of10c. It has since risen to 16c and the sun is now poking through the clouds. People here in my region are still taking it pretty seriously as far as masks, hand washing and social distancing go... Thankfully! I just got my second Pfizer jab over with about an hour and a half ago... I wonder if I'm gonna get beat up worse by it this time or not? I'll be sure to fill you in... Tune in tomorrow to find out! ;)

20C a summer day coming up. I had little reaction on the first jab, if the second jab does the same it could be that I unknowingly caught a dose of the virus last summer. I say this because my cat took on a mysterious illness where she was so weak she would barely move, but made a full recovery after 4 weeks. I wonder if she might have caught covid from me, but I was lucky enough to be one of those who had mild symptoms.

My elderly moggie has had a nasty case of vestibular disease. She is so wobbly on her legs and really fell down on her side a lot i was worried she'd had a stroke. It's not and she's less wobbly than the past few days bless her.

Went to Windsor yesterday. Was beautifully hot and we took a trip down the Thames River, fed swans, had a good gander about and bought more books lol. Was wonderful. Today has been fantastic too. Tomorrow i'm off to Henley on Thames but the weather looks like a rotten old storm is going to be entertaining me. I'm sure i'll find some book shops to keep dry in.. Maybe another boat trip down a different part of the Thames.

Simply can't believe how many don't bother wearing a mask. Mind, i see America has closed it's lockdown on Covid. Wish we could get there. Over 9,000 new cases reported of the Indian variant today. Numbers are on the up.

More bass strait lows with more rain to come. Some residents in the Dandenong ranges are still without power after several weeks and they estimate it could still be weeks before it is restored. The problem is that the electricity network was totally destroyed by the storm ,falling trees have just about wiped out all of the power lines. We had unseasonal severe storms in Queensland yesterday. They have cleared overnight and we have a new cold front coming thru tonight. I get my second astrazenica jab tomorrow morning. I had no grief from the first one ,so I hope this will be the same. Ron .

So glad you're enjoying you're days out Di., you've earned it.

22c and cloudy, this morning was down to 5c. Right after I bragged to you all yesterday that I was feeling okay I got super dizzy, nauseous and developed quite a fever. I took some acetaminophen with codeine and the symptoms greatly improved within a couple hours. I'm not quite back to normal but today is a lot more normal than yesterday. I forget... What's it like to be, "normal" again??? C'est la vie! ;)

Really enjoyed yesterday. No river boat trip in the time frame, but i enjoyed it anyway. The rain held off until back on the minibus. Trips are costing more at the moment due to fewer seats for distancing. Today it's been bucketing down. Was expecting this yesterday. It's 14C out and i put my heating on. I understand your hubby's cold, Carol. I seem to be extremely cold if i've been out the previous day, weird.

Rather dull and cold today. Certainly nothing of a summer day. My cat seems a bit poorly again today. Not sure she'll live too long now. I shall be without a companion after that. No more for me, though i do want to outlive her. I expect i shall. Nearly kicked the hedgehog last night as he was making his way up the garden having arrived for his food before i put it out, bless. I left his food under his nose after having a quick chat with him. No sign of badgers still and my neighbour says it's gone quiet under his floorboards. the rain seems to have helped the weeds grow another foot, omg. More gardening lol.

Gray, and cold, I put on the heating for breakfast, Carol I would gladly send all of our rains your way if I could figure a way to do so. Its so soggy the slugs are out on the lawn. We appear to be stuck in a pattern where cold fronts circulate one after another with rains ahead of each front. These can sometimes set up for a full season, this year it appears the case.

Another cloudy, rainy day here with a low of 6c and a high of 21c. We seem to be stuck in a strange weather pattern here also. I'm waiting for the slugs next, Buff. We've set records for rainfall this year so far, with many surrounding areas under evacuation for the last several weeks due to potential landslides and flooding that has already occurred.

16c and grey but a good day for the bikes.Still no rain.It was quiet out today, which made a nice change....we have a busy week ahead due to 4 medical phone consultations ( which we were informed could be 2hrs either side of the times stated ) a dental apt.,overdue owing to lockdowns, and a hearing test for Les way,way overdue due to lockdowns, cancer and heart attack. Then we have some new recliners due so will have to get the sofas out. Will donate to charity.I'm tired just thinking about it.......

Ron it's rubbish not being able to sleep at night..Since his "health"probs. Les has noisy dreams and looks for "burglars" etc.
too many to mention and either really annoying for me or really funny. He goes back to sleep almost immediately but not me.It's best to get up,make a hot drink and read a good book.I get OTC sleep aids which do help a lot.I quite enjoy the peace and quiet reading in the early hours. If I stay abed all sorts of stuff goes through my mind,so I'm better up.

It went down to +3C overnight with passing showers and blustery winds. The sun is peaking out between the clouds of what will be a cool day, I cut firewood yesterday afternoon, and will cut more today. There is nothing else I can do in this kind of lousy weather for the time of year. Yesterday I had a long deep sleep prior to lunch, and probably will do the same today. My nights are often interrupted by abdominal pain, sometimes for several hours until it passes or not. Last night was better, but always feel some sleep deprivation.

Rubbish weather for June i must say. Haven't been up to much as the crohns has really flared up again. I'm also on and off the loo all night. Sleep deprivation isn't a good thing for anyone, let alone the poorly ones. I didn't get back to sleep after getting to the loo at just after 3am. Hopefully, i will sleep tonight as i'm (hoping) going to St Albans tomorrow. I've been alternating with putting the heating on or putting a wool blanket over me. It's been so cold my hands, feet and legs go white and numb. Bloody English Weather. We've had the rains Carol. It's also extremely windy.

Hope everyone's appointments go very well and all is ok with you. Nice to hear you have colder weather Ron. Quite unusual. Sounds like Canada has British weather too. Unlucky. Hope it warms up for you to enjoy summer.

Cold and wet now Di. I went to the podiatrist after the INR. INR was way too high. We have adjusted the warfarin. Feet were ok . I have to get someone to tell me my feet are ok cause I shore can't feel them. I'm not due for another scope till next july. Next appointment is the skin ca clinic in a month or so. Always something to look forward to. Ron.

Cold and wet, very autumn like 9C. I managed to cut firewood for half an hour between down pours. Today I'll bring in the truck for an estimate for some needed servicing, I checked the availability of rental cars and there are none available anywhere due to the covid shortage. I may have to make an appointment ahead to get one and have the work done at a later date.

St Albans was lovely. Really enjoyed going out. I can't believe i've missed going out so much. Getting a bit back to normal again. Mind, numbers are going up but deaths are levelling out now. Wednesday was good weather but it's rained on my washing twice since. Should smell quite fresh though. Wet and horrible out. Raked thermal vest back out lol.

12c. wet and breezy.Bring it on !!!!
It's back into the 20s for the weekend,tut .
In todays news 9000 racing pigeons were let out 3hours flight time away to fly back home to the North East on Saturday and 5000 haven't arrived yet.The weather conditions were good but they think there might have been a magnetic storm above the clouds which confused them. It's usual to lose a few en route but not that many. i
Another interesting tale is that because of Brexit Brit.pigeons being raced from France (they are taken over by road/sea) have to have medical checks and all sorts of paperwork now.....people can go on holiday but pigeons can't fly back ???

Update:

A dangerous long duration heat wave will affect B.C. beginning on Saturday and lasting until Wednesday.

Threat: Daytime highs ranging from 35 to 40 degrees celsius combined with overnight lows of 20 to 22 degrees celsius.

Locations: Okanagan Valley, Similkameen, Fraser Canyon, Nicola, South Thompson, Shuswap, Boundary, West Kootenay, Arrow Lakes, Slocan Lake, Kootenay Lake, East Kootenay, Elk Valley, West Columbia, East Columbia, Yoho Park, Kootenay Park.

Timespan: Saturday to Wednesday.

GREAT!

Cool and clear but rain returning next week. A burst of covid delta strain in NSW and Vic. All stemming from travelers returning from overseas . The hotel quarantine is not up to stopping the delta strain. It only takes fleeting contact to pass on. The govt is going to build more purpose built quarantine centres . Eighteen months to late as usual. Ron.

I agree Di that we have had low numbers. It took hard work and restraint from the people but the government is in danger of blowing everything due to its incompetence with the vaccine rollout and by bringing back people from global hotspots without adequate quarantine. Most countries in the world have been notable for what they haven't done right rather than what they have done right. Ron.

It's been way too hot here for the last two days. It's supper time and 40c... By midnight it will have cooled to 30c. (estimated by professionals LOL) My bedroom has no return air duct, a 3'' round heat run going to it from 40+ feet away, (very inadequate for the lenghth of the run) and my bed is right against a West facing wall. No further explanation needed. My best to all!

Absolutely no sign of that 'thingy' here in Northants. Wet, wet, wet has been the order of today. Went to Banbury to buy a laptop, it says available to pick up locally, but no, you have to buy without seeing and just order it in for collection. Banbury was a miserable trip. Your heatwave, Chris, has been on the national news today. Aus has also with another 2 week lockdown. Fortunately, our death numbers are still very low despite many getting the Indian variant. What are you doing with a 'thingy' that far north Carol?

It's 42c in the shade here at the present time. My laptop broke today... it cost $800 and lasted all of six months. If I want it fixed it needs to be sent overseas... for an indeterminate amount of time... some warranty! They won't even sell me the parts to fix it myself. The first screen shattered from just opening it after only three days. Don't buy an Acer, especially with the narrow bezel. Mine is so flimsy it just keeps breaking screens and the hinges are coming apart and breaking away from the plastic cover mounts. Complete junk! I'm buying the next one off Amazon and if it doesn't handle the scrutiny, it shall be sent back with no hassle! Acer, if you're reading this... I want my damn money back!

Mines an Acer Chris,my second one in 11yrs,and I've had no bother.Just niggly stuff that's probably been my fault, as I'm not technically minded and faff about pressing the wrong keys occassionaly.Saw your weather on our tv news at lunchtime...Pheww it sounds more like an Aussie summer.Keep cool.16c here but feels warmer out of the breeze off the sea.Good for a cycle...the breeze I mean.Lots of day trippers out and about. Hallelujia !!!

18C Gray, no 'thingy' at all, and the rains lurk nearby. I've had this Acer for 10 years. Its been solid, with only the internal battery needing a replacement. When the battery started to go the key board swelled up. The repair guy I am lucky to know said the swollen battery was so scary looking he kept it outside fearing it may blow up on its own. Its a rare laptop with the keyboard up front and the track pad back by the screen making typing easy and natural.

Chris, when i saw the computers in the store i couldn't help but admire the fact that they look more flimsy than me. Not sure i want such a flimsy thing that costs loads and prob won't last long these days. I really detest that i can't see the one i want before i buy. that's just weird. So i'm very nervous about what i choose and will it be damaged in the post. They cost a bit these days so i can only remain hopeful i get a good one. Mind, they don't make them like they used to. It must have been infuriating to have a computer go wrong so quick. Trouble is, if you send off for one then you don't get the same treatment and respect if you have to take it back.

Went to Melton Mowbray today, enjoyed it although my legs swell if i'm on them too much. I've just watched England beat Germany 2 0. Wasn't expecting that result but i'm pleased. Weather was a bit like a not very nice November day although the rain was only very light.

It's already 35c here and expected to keep climbing. I'm glad you all are having good luck with the Acer laptops. Beware though... They sure don't make them like they used to. I had one before about 12 years ago and it was solid as a rock! I think I'm going to remove the broken lid and screen and plug it into a small TV set that I will wall mount above my work space.

We are expecting up to 50 mm of rain coming thru our area in the next few days. We have just entered a four day lockdown in Qld to allow tracing to find possible close contacts particularly for the covid "D ' strain.
I have never been a fan of laptops and have never owned one. I have never needed one for work so I have stuck to desktops . The only reason I change my desktops is that the control program is no longer supported. I find that older machines are not compatible with new operating systems . On two occasions I was told I was able to update my windows to a later version. On both occasions the update failed. Chris I saw on the news that a town in BC ,Lytton i think it was, reached a temp of just over 49c today. That is very scary for an area so close to the arctic. We often receive40c+ every year but our climate zones range from tropical to temperate not ant-arctic. I fear that the rate of global waring is increasing more rapidly than even the scientists will concede. Ron.

Last night I was thinking to myself that I couldn't half eat a pork pie,it's been years.Saw some in Morrisons today but the urge had gone....but a real Melton Mowbray one, oooo, that would have been nice.

No fear here, I listened to a report where they interviewed a resident from Lytton and they stated that temps regularly reach 40C every summer. We have yet to see any sustained warmth here and its been wetter than normal in these parts located between Lake Superior and Hudson's bay, I'd gladly take some needed warmth. My biggest fear are wildfires, and they have been well below normal in the region. One thing I look for when it comes to quality on electronic devices such as a laptop. If they are not held together with screws, and are glued together then I will stay well away from it.

rain will start tomorrow here and now they are predicting a 100mm drenching sometime next week. I have had a lot of experience in electronic products. One in particular involved synchronizers on shafts that activated a timed response in stepper motors. The cheaper manufacturers molded a metal nut into the synchronizer with a screw that pushed against the shaft. Very prone to failure. The better manufacturers had a plastic synchronizer with a slotted hole and a threaded hole in the shaft allowing the synchronizer to be clamped to the shaft with a screw and shaped washer. Not prone to failure. A simple metal chassis that allowed covers to be clamped to the chassis would solve the problems. Ron.

I saw the yellow thingy in the sky this morning. Was very nice, but it's hiding now. Hope to have those winter woolies put away now. They're out drying at the moment lol. I still haven't made a decision on a laptop. I really don't want to send off for one i haven't seen. I just don't know how flimsy it will be. Unfortunately my elderly cat uses the laptop as much as me. I simply don't trust her not to tread on one. She always has. It's purely because she can see me focusing on it intensely and wants that much attention herself so up she jumps.

Plenty thingy here today.Did a thorough living room clean in anticipation of new recliners tom tomorrow and was absolutely soaked when done.Went straight out on the bikes to enjoy the breeze and luckily nobody could see the state of my hair under the helmet... wet.rats tails, not a good look.
Ron,not a clue what you were on about but the guys will enjoy your post.

8C early this morning, I closed the windows to hold in some warmth last night. We are expecting a couple days of real beach weather for the weekend, but then temps will drop off once again. Lots of thingy this morning, but its struggling to warm up much like a late summer day. I got the truck serviced and had to pay slightly more than expected for the front end work consisting of replacing bushings, but the rental car came up cheaper, and those senior discounts add up. The computer tech is going to pick up the laptop I do my video work on, as there is a software conflict going on that essentially turned an otherwise solid Dell laptop into a brick.

Seen that thingy again this morning. Must hurry and get more washing on the line as i think thingy is going to hide itself whilst we take a shower outside. Not cold at all but not nice weather like i would want for summer. Carol, i just got 18 months of chemo hair removed. It is virtually back to normal and i had been going around like a black sheep. My hair was matted curls and rather fleece like. I feel more human now. I'm just hearing that 1 in 260 people in the UK has covid. What a crappy nation we are for not locking down. Good news, deaths are low still. Mind, more are going into hospital with this Indian variant.

After a chilly night, there is lots of 'thingy' and for the first time in many days it is actually warm when I stepped outside in the morning. We are getting a break from the damp cool spell. It was feeling autumn like yesterday so I cut the lawn yet leaving my wild flowers intact. Its been a good year for flowering plants. It was the national holiday yesterday, and fireworks lit the sky last night from many who live on the lake nearby. Things are slowly reopening, and people are feeling positive and festive for a change.

Must say, that thingy has shown up this afternoon and it's really quite warm. So nice out it's a shame i'm staying in. Can't be going out each day, i simply don't have the energy nor health. Nor do i want to catch covid from our increasing numbers. 28,000 yesterday have acquired the mainly Delta variant. I'm glad you have a summers day too, Buff.

It got up to 33c this afternoon before all hell broke loose... We had a torrential downpour that nearly flooded our basement. I was outside using a snow shovel to chuck the water away from the basement door for a good hour. After that the hail began... It was the size of Scotch mints and smashed damn near everything we have tried to nurse along. Oh well, to live the country lifestyle, sometimes all you get are the pits! The good news is that its only 23c outside now. I hope this is the end of the prolonged heat. My best to all.

It has been raining for two days. Expected to stop tomorrow but back by midweek. We came out of a three day lockdown last night but will have to wear masks when we leave home. Sad to hear about the extent of lives lost to the heatwave. Sadly it is often the aged and chronically ill who suffer the most. Wishing you all well, Ron.

Chris, that musts have been exhausting trying to save the basement. Sounds like Ron when he has to bail out. Hope you're not having to do that, Ron. Today it's colder with heavy showers and occasion view of the thingy that doesn't like to be seen in the UK. It likes us to get wet an awful lot. Chris, BC has been on mainstream news this week with that devastating heatwave. Stay safe with the health. Crohnies dehydrate plenty as it is without a heatwave.

Heatwave on, the first one since 2012. We reached 31C yesterday, and perhaps higher today. Honestly I am enjoying every little bit of it as these warm spells are few. The airconditioner keeps the house comfortable, and the time outside on the deck is a nice change from the wet and cold routine. The one thing to watch is the drying forest. BC lost Lytton to fire in short time, it could happen here. As I see it, it is my choice to take the chance to live in a high risk area for wild fires, and so have to live with the possible consequences.

Plenty of thingy, 27C already and rising this morning. Yesterday was a deck and patio day, today is looking like another. Airconditioner running, comfortable indoors too. It went up to 33C yesterday which helps put the brakes on the biting flies. Its good to kick back, relax and reap the benefits of all the work done throughout the year.
