Ya it's going to be really visible by us and really visible by my sister in Salem. Thinking of going down there and visit her and watch it there.

Well, it's supposed to be good today, all I've got is white cloudy sky and a coldish wind.

13c and grey.No wind but torrential downpours every so often. The poor day trippers down at the coast will have had to scarper and run for cover.Actually there's not that much cover at the coast itself except for the Sea Life centre
and food outlets.

I thought I would get some practice for my break by going to a local dam for a fish. It was 4c when I arrived . By the time I was leaving at 2pm it was 29c. I had a really crappy day. I caught a few fish but After two hours I was cramping so badly in the legs that I could barely move. The neuropathy in my legs is getting so bad I can hardly lift them and I can't feel how high I have lifted them . I was actually having to use my hands to lift my feet over objects in the boat. It is so depressing to be unable to do anything that I used to do. When I got back to the ramp I could see people watching me trying to get out of the boat. The expression on their face was pity. I nearly cracked up ,it is hard to be pitied. I saw my nephrologist last week . He suggested it was about time we tried for a bit of quality of life. He told me to take nsaids three times a week but the dose he suggested was of no use for pain relief. I have never heard of any nephrologist advising a patient with renal failure to take nsaids , they just don't do it. I spent the day in bed today but I can hardly walk still. I am not sure whether I should try to go away or not , I really don't think I am capable .. Ron.

I think you probably need a mate to go with you Ron.If you feel this bad close to home it will be twice as bad being away and on your own.It will be a shame to miss your break but at least stay away from work for a while.Sending hugs.

Its going to be a seasonal summer day here 25C, the biting flies are not as intense now, we are heading into the better time of the year to be out in the great outdoors. Some berry patches are producing blue berries and raspberries. I can''t eat the raspberries due to their jagged seeds, but the blue berries are fine.

Boy do we need rain. It's been over a month with 30c and above temperatures and no rain. I guess we are classified as semi-arid so I shouldn't really be surprised.

Ron50 I feel for you bud, it's no fun being pitied and feeling like junk. I sure hope you can find something that helps with the pain.

Ron50, i also hope you can find relief m

Was glorious this morning, but when the sun vanishes behind a cloud there is that definite 'chill' in the air as you say, Carol.

@Ron50. I really feel for you and also suggest you find someone to holiday with. It's pretty undignified being ill, isn't it?

I am noticing the sun is rising later in the mornings and setting earlier. During the day there is that angle to the sun and shadows are growing. I look fondly at my crosscountry skis in the shed, and my wood pile is growing. I am ready for a change of seasons and to put the bug spray away.

We have not had more than 5mm of rain in the past two months. everything has browned off and I suspect we will be in for a very nasty bushfire season. We had 31c yesterday ,expecting 32 c today. We may get a cooler change by the weekend but it is expected to be short lived then back to hot. We have averaged 11c above average this last week. Ron.

It rained most of the night here but it's supposed to be clear blue skies and 21c today.
Hmm,I can see only small patches of blue so far,but it's early yey.Hoping for a cycle out later.

We had another day of steady rains, cool which required me to put a small fire on last evening. Today it appears to be another cool gray day. The weather forecast for the weekend is going to be sunny and warmer. I got some much needed work done in the house.

We had 32c on Thursday with strong north westerly winds. A bushfire started 20 kliks to thee south of me on Friday. it took around a hundred fire fighters and several water bombers to save a brand new town (just built last year) in its path. I fear it is a heads up for what to expect in spring and summer. We had heavy rains and floods with cyclone Debbie early in the year which resulted in a lot of extra greenery which is now dry fuel. Ron.

Me too Chris.,it's seems to have been a long summer for some reason. We've been for a cycle and although it's very windy it's also warm.We always stop for a rest and a cold drink but the heat was burning through my pants so we had to move on.I also think the cold weather is far healthier as long as you have the right clothing.I know poor Diane suffers badly in cold weather so I'm sorry D., for wishing it was here.

Very windy and dry. Three luxury houses burned over night just north of me. They are still battling to control the fire to the south and another started overnight just to the north east of me. All you can smell is smoke. No one hurt so far so that is a bonus. No sign of rain. Ron.

Today looks to be a dandy of a summer day. I stepped out to put up the laundry on the line and noticed the warmth. I've caught up on many chores including vacuuming up after the mice out at my remote cabin. With August comes the annual mice baby boom, so one must keep up to them. Looks like a good day to simply relax and take in the day for a change with 28C and sunshine.

Another "nice" day unfortunately,BUT,a lot less windy. On yesterdays cycle ride we rode into the wind, hard work for me,but hubby says "It'll be at our backs going home so it'll be great".By the time we got to our destination the wind direction changed,so yes,it was face on going home.Going out again today although weekends here are not a good time to cycle as there are far to many people out and about. My bell finger will get plenty exercise though.

Another smoky day. Most of the fires are under control as long as the wind does not ramp up again. Still no sign of rain coming. 27c tomorrow, all of the mango trees are covered in blossoms. It looks like we bypassed most of winter and are in an early spring. Ron.

We are in for a partial eclipse with about 70% of the sun being covered. I'm taking a time out for it when it starts in less than two hours. The last one I saw was in 1979 and it was over 80% coverage. The sky got quite dark, and cool like evening coming, and then the sun came back, quite dramatic if I may say.

They say we MIGHT get a glimpse of a partial at 7-45pm if the sky is clear but we have a complete covering of cloud up to now so I'm doubtful. It'll be on TV I expect. 18c here today.

It should be around 90% eclipsed here. We have a fair bit of smoke so who knows if it will be easy to see. It will get quite dark out though and apparently nocturnal animals may believe night has fallen and come back out.

A skunk was out this morning so I'll be looking for him today during the eclipse. I'm going to look through my welding mask with a shade 12 lens to see the sun. They say if you look with unprotected eyes the damage is cumulative and only takes just over a minute or so to cause permanent vision loss. I don't think I will look very much through the lens anyways but it should be pretty neat.

I was going to look at the eclipse with my welding mask...

"Viewing with Protection -- Experts suggests that one widely available filter for safe solar viewing is welders glass of sufficiently high number. The only ones that are safe for direct viewing of the Sun with your eyes are those of Shade 12 or higher. These are much darker than the filters used for most kinds of welding. If you have an old welder's helmet around the house and are thinking of using it to view the Sun, make sure you know the filter's shade number. If it's less than 12 (and it probably is), don't even think about using it to look at the Sun. Many people find the Sun too bright even in a Shade 12 filter, and some find the Sun too dim in a Shade 14 filter — but Shade 13 filters are uncommon and can be hard to find." (source NASA ink below)

It turns out my welding mask is one shade lighter than recommended so you best check.

If you are going to try to look at the eclipse check the safety requirements here

I saw nothing of the eclipse either as the cloud was too much. I did experience the 1999 one in Cornwall. It really is amazing, the temperature drop was a big surprise too. It all goes completely silent. I think most vehicles stopped to watch it so was extra eerie.
yesterday was lovely but today it's cloudy again. warm if the sun pops through.

Ben around 27-28 most of the week. First official thunderstorm for the spring forecast for today, even tho it is still winter. Ron.

I am definitely feeling Autumn in my body clock. The trees are already changing colour and I've fewer hedgehogs and birds to feed (and watch).

It's dry for the moment with sporadic sunshine.

That's a hot winter Ron. I could do with those. Hotter than our summers, lol. But I do sympathise.

Cooler than yesterday but still cloudy. We have a long holiday weekend coming up so I hope it at least stays dry for day-trippers.The nights are closing in and it starts to get dark at 8-30pm.I love the dark nights when I can shut out the world, put lo-glo lamps on and snuggle down in front of the TV, without feeling guilty because the sun's still shining and I really SHOULD do something outdoors.

We have had an unbroken run of warm sunny weather. It has been windy but even that has settled. I have decided to go fishing despite my health. It seems it is only going to get worse anyway. I had blood tests last week. My diabetes history blood count has gone from 49 three months ago to 73 which means I may need to go on insulin in the near future. I have been on metformin for years. Crap. Ron.

Ron50.Sending hugs and support.I would have a word with your Doc. before goin' fishin'
How far from home will you be ? If you do get away I hope you have a great relaxing time......It's a lot cooler here but calm.Forecast says there may be some early frost in the sticks (countryside) at night this week.

Light frost this morning, very fall like today. Calm, cool and sunny. I am going to take the window airconditioner unit out today. Barely used it at all this summer and needed the wood furnace instead. We went from spring directly into fall and completely skipped summer in these parts this year.

Definitely a touch of autumn in the air.11c and cloudy but sun is doing it's best to get through.Have just noticed on the web that there is another storm brewing over the Atlantic.Let's hope it fizzles out before it reaches land.

It feels like fall, went down close to the freezing mark. I took the window airconditioner out and into storage yesterday. The big hurricane caused our fuel prices to spike. I purchased 310 liters of gasoline on Tuesday at 97 cents a liter, that gas is now up to $1.30 a liter. The gas in my shed is worth $100 more than when I bought it. Always good to stock up and ride out price spikes. Cool today, going to move dry wood into the house later.

15c grey skies and blustery breeze. There's been little change for a while, but I think summer is packing it's sun cream and getting ready to head south to torture poor Ron50 some more.

Summer left us back in Sept 2016 and skipped us this year, as we went from spring directly into fall; Good riddance to the year without a summer. Lets get put it behind us along with the cans of bug spray, and get on with winter; I could use a good long cross country ski in the afternoons with bright snow and blue skies.

Yep,bring it on....I want to feel cosy in a winter jacket and breath cool fresh air.

Much the same as yesterday here.Boring.But I don't need the "excitement" that parts of the USA is suffering. It's tragic to say the least.

Well I went away camping and fishing for ten days. I lasted four. I only fished for a day and a half whilst I was at Boondooma dam but that was enough to nearly kill me.. Getting the tent down and packed up this morning was hell. I won't be going camping again. Cabins , overnight vans or nothing. It wa a shame a I caught sme really nice fish. The weather was hot and very windy. The whole of the countryside I passed thru looked ready to go up in flames.Ron.

That's a shame Ron,but at least you know that camping is a bad idea.I always say,if you don't try you will always wonder if you should have. There are plenty alternatives eh?

It's rained all night here and it's dismal today, but not too cold.

I recall thinking about camping, but when I think about the lack of a bed and comfortable seating together with living with the weather elements, a proper cabin with a wood stove, generator, TV and microwave is a much better option, and is even better in winter when its very cozy inside.

I agree. But is this a chrohnie attitude or an age thing. For me it's both.My heart loves the outdoors, but been there, done that.I can easily talk myself out of things now, where as in the past I just got up and went. Happy Days......

I don't think it's an age thing Carol. I'm relatively young and it would have to be some kind of awesome adventure to get me sleeping on the ground for a week. I always found that it was so much work to set up and break camp, that if you didn't spend at least three or four good days it wasn't worth it. I watch people go out for one or two nights of camping and I just shake my head. You barely get set up and you have to leave, then put it all away. Meh!

Smoke and ash and 100 today.....feels like hell on earth here right now. The Columbia River Gorge is close to us and my brothers house is on alert for evacuation so say a prayer please.

O/T has anyone heard from Sandyute lately. It seems like ages since I have seen here on here. I certainly hope she is ok. Ron.

Same here we are only just into spring , the temps are topping 30c the winds are from the north and south west and totally dry . The whole country has dried to a crisp . Rural brigades are attending dozens of fires every day. There is a high fuel load from the cyclonic floods earlier in the year and we haven't had a drop of rain in three months. Most of the outlying houses in regional areas rely on tanks for their drinking showering and washing . Most are having to buy water every fortnight. The idiot politicians are arguing about which roads and rails need duplication , when they haven't built a new dam in thirty years. You can't drink roads and railways. Ron.

Blimey, Bufford, your temps are lower than ours. We are starting to experience cold nights and mornings with frost too. Tis bucketing down most the time now. As usual not too much of a summer. Thermals on, electric blanket on under the fleecy sheet and heating has been on a few times now too. Leaves will be colourful soon though. That's nice to see.

cloudy but occasional sun. Just turned the heating off. Had to take the chill off the place.

Temp. up 2 degs.since earlier.Off on a bike ride to warm up.

Have your hogs started to snuggle down yet,or is it a bit to soon ?

Our local birds have been conspicuous by their absence lately. Not a sight nor sound of anything for days.:shifty-t:

Ok up till Thursday then we are expecting a week or more of 30c + temps. Still no rain. Those using tank water are having to buy water every fortnight. I'm glad I am on town water. We are missing spring every year now . Winter finishes early and we go straight to summer, yuk! ps we are also having our worst flu season in decades this year. Touch wood I had the shots and so far have missed out but my ex got the A strain and was off work for nearly four weeks. She ended up with pneumonia, pleurisy and a sinus infection from an infected wisdom tooth. She was fighting septicemia and has been on anti-biots for at least three and a half weeks non stop . If I got it I doubt if I would survive it. Ron.

I heard about the flu epidemic over there Ron,it hit NZ too.We are being warned it could be bad here.Have put a reminder on the calendar for mine next month,I've had the pneumonia jab.You only need it once and you're covered for life. It's daft not to.
I'm sorry your summer has come around to soon.I don't know how you cope.Keep well my friend.

There's a definite chill in the mornings now and the evenings are darkening by 7ish and full dark at 9pm.I might have to change the summer duvet for the spring/autumn one at the weekend. Coolish and greyish today, but no wind or rain. The UK is so fortunate compared to other parts of the world, and despite being known to be "weather whingers" we've nothing to whinge about at all.Oooops here's the sun coming out now.

I think, like most of us, there is definitely something amiss with the weather world wide. Now I see Japan has had another 'quake too !!! I'm not religious and I try not to worry about Armaggedon but maybe our world is coming to an end ?
Not a bad day here though. Not cold and showers later.Heat wave at the weekend maybe.

I'm starting to miss the hedgehogs, only one or two out now. The birds did a vanishing act a while back, to be honest, Carol. Have seen mum and baby jackdaws in the past few days. Am hoping to help out a hedgehog rescue this year and over winter the autumn juveniles that just wouldn't survive hibernation.

That said, I've got my heating on and my fingers are white with cold. Have to plant bulbs soon too. Got tulips and daffs to go in.

Heating up by the day. Ipswich just west of Brisbane is expecting 37+ on Sunday and Monday. They said there was a chance of storms tomorrow night. Unfortunately the humidity is expected to drop tomorrow and we could get dry electrical storms . They said if that happens that there will definitely be bushfires as a result.
Stopped taking metformin for my type two diabetes and today started galvumet one of the new combo diabetes meds. Ron.
