-11 blustery with sunshine. Ron I have to agree, elections provide only an illusion that change is possible, yet its the same clown acts every time.

I spent a good length of time with the tax people on the phone. Again, there is a lot of smoke and mirrors in how they pass the blame from one department upon the other. Nobody wants to be held accountable for the increases. But when it comes down to it, I'll buy food and medical supplies before I give them one cent.

We had a beautiful sunny weekend with temps in the high 20c's. I was quite unwell on Sunday. My legs and lungs started filling with fluid and I had to double my diuretics. I will have to keep my eye on my oedema today and restrict my fluid intake. Fortunately it is overcast this morning with some rain overnight. Hoping for a cooler day. Ron.

-7C and gray. Yesterday turned into an excruciating ordeal as I finally finished packing the trail all the way to the cabin. I drilled a hole in the ice and found it to be 8 inches thick. I am going to take a break from this back breaking work, every year it's taking longer.

It's been a horrible day.(weather-wise) Very wet, dark skies, high seas, cold. We did venture out for a while but were glad to be home.

I was out for a couple of hours today. God, that chill wind... omg, was grateful for getting into a shop to feel the warmth. I had to stay in them looking at stuff I just wasn't interested in, but it was so cold out. Started to rain as I got home. Cold for the rest of the week I believe.

Bufford, I love the way you don't call cats 'ginger' as this seems to be a personal affront these days. But nice to know you're cat is enjoying the sun. I love being around a relaxed cat. lovely.

We woke to rain again this morning. We seem to be getting showers every day this month. Everything is green and temps are still in the mid twenties. My arthritis is in a flare. They have not decided if it is rheumatoid or psoriatic. They know it is seronegative. It is effecting my eyes and lungs at the moment. I wake up with red eyes every morning and pulmonary oedema varying from mild to severe. I suspect it is psoriatic. I will have to see about getting on one of the dmards. Ron.

Now I am disappointed Carol I thought that was a flash of your legendary subtle humour. The skies opened up on us today. We had a series of storms and around 150 mm of rain. It was not gentle this time and by this afternoon I was leaking thru my walls. Ron.

Ron50, You'll be praying for a long hot summer next year. I hope you can cope with the rainfall and that it doesn't exhaust you trying to sort it. I get inflammatory and psoriac arthritis. You don't need to be having to exert yourself with flood damage.

Sunny here, mind, will be -10c tonight.

-10 a quiet winter morning with the sun shining through thin high cloud. Spooky; It never occurred to me to mention ginger to describe my orange cat, I often refer to as striped orange cat, or just fatso, the orange jumbo 747 cat. Room for seating 450 mice, if she would catch some.
Right now she is all stretched out on the bed, all 18 lbs or about 8.5 kilos of 'orange cat'.

Warmer today

She is certainly that, and a lot of unconditional love. Ron, I'll send you all of our warmer weather if you could send us some fresh snow. The trails are all hard pack and need freshening up

We have snow !!! First for a few years.Hubby got excited and leapt out of bed to take photos to send to our son in Oz.Looks like it's over for now, as I can see blue sky.

It's 0c at time of posting.....

Been bailing and mopping most of the evening. They are saying the rain will back off tomorrow and Sat will be fine. Then a new system hits us on Sunday and Monday. Serious rain so they say. The statisticians are telling us that that is the highest rainfall ever recorded in October ,November in our area. Tomorrow is the start of summer and the wet season. La nina is coming on strong. Ron.

Freezing wind today, no snow....yet, but could be a slight chance overnight. I'm jealous of a blizzard, Carol.

Ron50, amazing change in weather down there, but they say our cold weather is La Nina too. No suntan for you this year lol.

1c and fine.Lots of squally rain and sleet showers last night has cleared most of the snow from the roads. There's only slushy wet patches to see now.

Hoping the tide goes out in the hill behind me before the new system comes in on Sunday. They are predicting 70-100 mm for the two days. Melbourne is copping a beating at the moment from a super storm that has hit them. Two months rain in a couple of days and more to come,,,,,,"A land of drought and flooding rain" they got that right...Ron.

1C and sunny. We sure could use a good snowfall, the snow has been slowly receding and the trail is hurting for snow. The long term forecast looks promising, but its still wait and see. I hope all that work was not for nothing.

The front that hit Victoria is now sweeping up towards us , Parts of Victoria received the entire summer rainfall in 24 hrs. For once I hope the forecast for us is wrong. The ground here is soaked and any rain that falls will just run off. I really don't feel like dealing with it at the moment. Ron.

It's been a beautiful day 7c.sunny and no wind.Had a lovely bike ride up river to the Marina, took a flask of coffee and fed the birds,It's dusk now and the clouds are tinted red.

+1 with a mix of sun and cloud. Last night the full moon was amazing how it lit up the skies. The next couple of full moons cycles are supposed to be super moons as well.

we are getting a super moon tonight, cloud cover permitting,We get a good view of the moon from the back windows at this time of year.Fingers x'd.

Supermoon here was a disappointment. Clouds and a horrible haze couldn't allow its brilliance to shine through. Definitely nothing to see this morning either. Clouds, drizzle, but now got some sun through. I love it when it's bright out.

I cant win the sewer blocked up today just in time for the lady upstairs washing machine to pump out. I had a lovely fountain of decaying crap and toilet paper come up thru my shower recess drain and flood out into my lounge carpet. In the meantime the heavens opened and flooded most of the low lying countryside. A few places recorded over 100 mm in a couple of hours. It did not look good for getting the plumbing fixed but the real estate lady got a plumber to me before lunch . The problem was outside the property. so the council water service turned up and cut a big Jacarrandah root out or the sewer pipe. The carpet cleaner turned up before three pm .and everything has returned to normal. I'm just another day further behind with my work, Ron

It certainly was not pleasant, there are some odours you just can't get out of your nose. I guess with all our colon problems it's the one thing I should be used to, Ron.

What a crappy time you're having lately Ron.Talk about kicking a man when he's down. You must have been an old bugger in a previous life.I wouldn't go testing your BP for a few days.

Our super moon was also a disappointment, but photos just a few miles up the coast were impressive.Lovely day here.Been for a cycle again today, before El Nina pays a visit later in the week.

Ron better that the pipe was constipated and not you, as at first I thought you were discussing bowel issues. Reminds me when I was a maintenance worker and we had to deal with stopped up drains and the dreaded main sewer at the senior's homes I worked at. It was not pleasant, but the job paid the bills.
Not a nice day here, +2 and very slushy. Quite foggy, making it quite dark when I got up at 8:30 this morning.

Not so sure Bufford if there is one thing that panics me it is not having a working loo within reach. It is amazing how much our lives are ruled by that little porcelain pedestal in the bathroom. We had another fierce storm this afternoon. The rain was torrential When I got home I had to bail around twenty litres of water out of my bathroom. The place smells more like a swamp each day. The humidity is high and nothing is drying. Ron.

I'm feeling for you, Ron. I couldn't cope without a loo nearby.
Here it's grey again, but no drizzle or rain as yet. Wednesday and Thursday will be warmer but with torrential rain and wind. Well, blow me i'm supposed to be off out with a friend on Thursday. Maybe we won't go. It can wait.

-10 and stormy, we had about 15 cms of fresh snow after the dismal wet day yesterday. Breakfast did not go as planned, I was surprised the power was still on, then as i grabbed the tea pot, and just as I turned on the radio the power went out.

On an empty stomach I had to venture out and set up the portable generator, and get it going. Its not bad doing this later on, but first thing out of bed is another thing. Looks like a lot of people are on their gennys, its going to be a longer outage, which is okay given my set up.
Now I am comfortable, with a hot coffee, we really needed this snow.

Ron, I have to agree, my life has been revolving around the outhouse, and I map my way around my errands knowing where I can get to a public toilet....fast if I may say.

Well that was interesting. My electricity went off sometime during the night. I heard it raining, then it turned into wet snow. There must have been outages all over town, because mine didn't come back on until 5:45 PM. That was a long cold day. It went down to 14C in here, and the cats weren't happy. I realized how unprepared I was. I need to get some small camping stove and emergency supplies :( My sleeping bag is really warm though

The rain is pouring down right now.

-13 partly cloudy with flurries. Power came back on later on in the evening, the generator had a 9 hr run. Today I'll spend the afternoon digging out. The trails should be in good shape.

32c today , hot humid and sticky after all the rain we have had. Likelihood of storms tomorrow. Ron.

Come and stick your head out of my window Ron.It sure will blow the cobwebs away and anything else you don't have a hold of.......:eek2:

-15 with a passing flurry. We have a new snowplow operator who is in a huge hurry and dumps a big pile of snow at the entrance to my driveway, making it difficult as I shovel the parking spot by hand. He also leaves a lot behind that he is supposed to move. Not at all like the fine gentleman we had for years who loved his job and truck and often did more than he had to knowing that I am not well.

Sometimes its just not easy and its these kinds of issues that makes me question how much longer can I hold onto the house and this kind of lifestyle.

Wasn't -15 here today, that sounds so cold. Have a word with the new snow bloke. Let him know how difficult he makes life for you, Bufford.

Around 5c today and only heavy rain in the morning. Tonight the big freeze arrives with some good old snow flurries. I'm hoping to see some anyway.

2c and lots of sun and blue sky.I think we will be missed by the worst weather as it's mostly in the west and the Pennine Hills shelter us,(this time) It's the Victorian Xmas Market in the town square this weekend so a dusting of snow would be nice.

-20. Temperatures dropped overnight, and the woodfurnace is running steady. I called our roads board member last evening and discussed the problem. He said there is a new crew this year and they have not been properly trained. Lots of complaints. With time it should work out. Winter appears to be well established this year.

Lovely sunny day, now gone freezing and a fine flurry. Nothing to get too excited about yet. Sunday is our best chance of snow. That'll freeze the daffodil stems poking through already. Seeing more small birds at the feeders now, well, at least when the jackdaws aren't there.

1c and dry and no wind.....there are lots of little birds feeding here D.,we try to keep them separate size wise.Little un's on the feeders, big un's on the shed roof.We have a huge flock of Jackdaws that roost nearby, probably in the park, but we only see them at dusk, and luckily they don't ALL come for a feed.Well not at the same time anyway. That would terrify the neigbours.

P.S. Last years and this years young gulls call in for crab sticks quite often, which has never happened before.Usually the parents see them off after a while (parents come daily) The young will be in BIG TROUBLE if they're still hanging around when the nesting starts in spring. They're barely tolerated now.

Freezing out but lovely sunshine.

I have seen a chaffinch, blackbird, wren, robin and sparrows. Maybe they are coming back. I haven't seen the small ones all Summer and Autumn so it's great to see them again, oh, I forgot the great tits. Jackdaws galore unfortunately.

Lots of hail and hail damage south west Brisbane. We got another drenching but no hail. Hot night. I am already over Christmas. Ron.

-23C wood furnace running steady, and my oil furnace has not come on since I had to go in for supplies 4 days ago. The Whiskyjacks come around and take care of any old food and left overs I would otherwise throw out. I wonder how these birds survive in these frigid conditions. They seem to thrive in cold weather.

Bufford that's sooo cold. What's a Whiskyjack? We're getting snow tomorrow hopefully. Won't last past Tuesday/Wednesday as it will be back to rain and high temps of 10C.

Snowy

Minus 3c. (10am) and a big overnight frost. But the roads/streets are dry so it shouldn't be too bad out. Will walk up to xmas market, just for some air and exercise ,but would much rather stay in the warm with a good book.Still,we can't stay indoors until spring, alas. I'm definitely in hibernation mode.

Big storm went thru just south of us last night. Very high winds rain and hail. Several houses flattened when trees fell on them. Steve Irwins Australia zoo was closed today because of storm damage. All the animals are ok as they are all housed overnight. They had a lot of trees blown over and some flood damage. Nothing like what is happening in the USA with the blizzards and wildfires. Saw some footage of snow in the uk as well. Nature is getting a tad restless, Ron.

Well, I was awake at 5am so looked out the window and lots of snow. Haven't been back to bed so I've been watching the snow increase from a couple of inches to around 6 or 7 inches now.

On a positive note, I've had more small birds at my feeders this morning than I've seen in ages. The chaffinch, the great tits, the wren and robin and 3 blackbirds and sparrows plus some starlings. I've fed them 3 times already today. But now i'm bored of the snow and await a sunny day, even if it's cold.

Stay safe everyone.

-17 bright sunshine under blue cobalt skies. It looks like a great day to go for a long cross country ski in the afternoon. Had a rough ride on the snowmobile yesterday after having to stop to clear trees from last weeks storm.

Ah, lovely bird. Thanks for the link.

Expecting temps to fall well below 0C tonight. The snow is still thick. Schools closing for tomorrow and all advisories not to travel.

The first snow storm of the season dropped seven inches plus in my area. It was predicted to be be wet,but the temperature dropped into the 20'sF and it was light and fluffy. Much easier to clear and the dogs were quite happy. I had to work today so I was out before sunrise dealing with the snow. I must say the fresh snow made the sunrise look quite pretty. It was a rare day with no wind,so the trees were still covered and had that fairy land look to them. As groovy as that sounds,it still took me three hours to get it all done. Damn happy it was a light snow.

Minus 5c early on but warming up nicely to -4c now.Dry and sunny with a thin layer of frost.....the rest of the country has gone into meltdown because of a few centimetres of snow. Some schools closed and idiot drivers causing motorway chaos because they don't know how to drive.....so embarrassing. 41c in Australia.Son Scott's moving house and a storm has knocked the power out so no air.con.

More than a few inches of snow here. Was predicted to have stopped snowing by 1 pm yesterday, was still blowing it horizontally at 10.30pm. I have to try and rescue my small tree as it's splayed all over the show and dangling to the ground. Just hope it survives. I refused to drive anywhere yesterday, but plenty of traffic about and the buses are running so might nip out to get all of my prescription stuff.

Birds still pigging out. The cats won't go out, the fish pond has 4 inches of semi frozen slush so I had to go out there and clear it, but I certainly don't mind if I don't go out today. Brrrr. it's cold.

Been a year for storms here Carol. All over the country there have been clusters of storms and some of them have really got up to some mischief. Quite a few people in our area have been without power for the best part of two days. The last lot of storms dropped a lot of trees onto power lines. Hope Scott's aircon comes back on before he melts . Ron.

-14 with light snow. Yesterday I skied half way up the ski trail through the beaver ponds and forest. I was not expecting to go that far, but the snow conditions were good, and my body felt good.

I hope you're not bruised after yesterdays adventure Buff.........oh how the other half live.
the worst we have to worry about is some nutter driver not paying attention

minus 2c., clear skies and sunny. It thawed during the night and the street was wet,but it has re-freezed (?) with a vengeance. It's like a skating rink out there.

Still loads of snow and can't do much until it thaws. So cold with visits out and craft group cancelled due to the ice and cold. Gritter turns up at around 4pm, how useless.

Have used Scottsmas tip of hot saucepan on the ice over the pond. poor fish, I hope they're alive under that.

i'm staying in and staying warm.

-22 bright sunshine under blue cobalt skies, I know where I am going this afternoon, up that ski trail.
Yesterday I saw the doctor and told her about my adventure, and then braved the messy streets. They use a lot of salt here; who ever invented the idea of using it on roads should have been run down by a truck. Its awful driving blind with the corrosive dirt all over the windshield and the wipers only smear it making things worse. I was glad to come home all worn out and park without having cracked the egg so to speak.

Watching the evening news and there are lots of folk, mostly aged,in A&E (emergency room) due to slipping on the ice.....we were warned not to go out unless absolutely necessary, now many of them will be indoors for a while. It feels warmer this evening at 3c and I've turned the heating off for a while.

Temps in the high twenties. We get a shower of rain most days. Everything is lush and green. All that means is plenty of fuel for bushfires when it dries out later in the year. having a lot of problems getting onto the forum of late. Keeps coming up with page cannot be displayed. I play around for a while then it loads. weird. Ron.

Re lush green / bush fires....Ron,you really are a glass half empty kinda bloke, you remind me of my hubby.:( hahaha.

5c here, frost gone for the time being, bits of blue sky.

Just forward thinking carol , I like to anticipate problems unlike many I see who grow forests right up to their houses and then don't have a plan when the whole lot dries out and goes up like a bonfire. When I was growing up as a kid you always saw wide open spaces around the old timber houses. There may have been a couple of trees but they were always big like mangoes and macadamias and always clear underneath. This last year has been dreadful for house fires in my area. So much heartache and suffering and so much could have been avoided with a little bit of forethought. Off my soap box now and off to bed :) ron.

Sleep well mate....:thumleft:

Well, much needed rain arrived and I managed to get out to get a few bits and my prescription. The snow has much melted but ice remains on pavements. I'm probably going to be one of those that slips due to my crap balance. Thin bones don't help either. Lets hope I manage to stay on my feet.

Tis warmer today although I still have birds galore in my garden feasting. I've given them bird food, suet pellets, suet blocks, raisons and mealworms. I have at least 10 Mr. Blackbirds and a few wives, plus a small group of starlings. I've seen the green finch chaffinches robins wrens, sparrows. The lot really.

Tis a tad warmer today and i'm grateful. Keep safe everyone whether the weather be wet, snowy, icy, or too hot.

Carol, The hedgie programme was very good, cute little critters.

-15 sun and cloud with a passing flurry. The colder weather came somewhat early this year and has been steady. It takes a lot of fuel in this climate to heat a house. If it were not for the wood I could easily have to pay over $3,000 for heating oil. Wood has the horsepower to create the heat needed when temperatures go down. Its not uncommon for night time temperatures to drop into the -30's.
Cars become difficult to start in these temperatures and have to have a block heater installed that can be plugged in to warm the engine block for a couple of hours prior to starting. Not doing so leads to engine damage and non starts. I do not mind the dry cold at all, and we need the cold in order to keep insect infestations under control to have healthy forests.
