What is YOUR weather like today??

Crohn's Disease Forum

Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

-20 calm. Yesterday I made it all the way to the far end of the trail, which is unusually early as this part of the trail needs snow and a lot of cold to freeze the bog, but this year winter started 4 weeks earlier. Conditions are very good, and I will go again this afternoon. Got to take it while we have it.

Southern WA is getting a touch up by what could only be described as a west coast temperate low. There has been high winds and rain . Adelaide is baking and western Qld is getting high 40cs in the first heatwave of summer. The se winds are keeping the coast quite a bit cooler tho the western suburbs of Brisbane will be 35-7 c by mid week. I guess summer has finally arrived. Ron.

-7 gray with a damp south east wind. The whiskyjacks are in a feeding frenzy from last nights left overs I placed upon the snowbank. Going slow and easy here this morning.

-7 partly cloudy. We are between cold fronts, I have a few small chores to do that are better done now, once the temperatures fall back, out come the skis again.

Record high temps predicted for Victoria and NSW. Temps expected to reach as high as 44c in western Sydney. Victoria will get similar temps today followed by a cold change and possible severe storms . We are expecting over 30c for the most of this week. It would be a lot worse if not for onshore winds. Ron.

Aw, Ron50, that's bad for you. What Summer temps you have. But I think it's probably the longest day of the year for you in a couple of days. Think on the positive side, the days will be getting shorter soon. Hope the next 3 months aren't too unkind to you.

Dull skies and chilly.

11c and sunny.Managed another bike ride and raced the clouds back home.
D., when we were cycling yesterday we noticed bluebells pushing through a few inches.
Trying very hard not to think too far ahead.Life seems to be passing by too quickly as it is.

Buff. I like to get stuff done when I can, then if the weathers bad or I feel rough I don't have chores etc on my mind and can indulge myself.

-4 with 8 cms of fresh snow and now the temperatures are falling back. I will probably dig out this afternoon, with the colder weather coming back I'll want to be skiing not shoveling.

South Coast of west Australia was hit by a massive storm yesterday with two months of rain in a couple of hours. The expected cold front also hit Victoria with widespread storms. There were blackouts over wide areas with high winds bringing down power lines. Temps in Melbourne yesterday were in the high thirties today they are 24c. Sydney in New South Wales is still in heatwave with temps in the forties yesterday, expecting 35c+ today. We are at 31c today . Hot and steamy. Ron.

Oh dear me !!! Sounds terrible Ron.I hope you're not suffering too much:cool:

11c and damp.No wind so it looks like the cloud cover is here to stay.

It was a bit too hot for me today but at least we are not getting the wild stuff like WA and Vic. The forecast for Christmas day here is fine with 31-2 c. Definitely a cold seafood Christmas dinner. Ron.

The beginning of summer here is always storm season Buff , we had our hottest and driest winter on record followed by our wettest spring on record. January and February will be interesting. That is the beginning of cyclone season. We seem to be getting a few less cyclones than we used to but the intensity of those that we are getting is way up. We are now getting Cat five storms regularly. Only yesterday a car was found submerged in a creek near Mt Isa. It contained the remains of a lady who went missing in a cyclone early this year. Very sad, Ron.

11c and sun trying to come out. I like it when it's this type of winter, completely tolerable, mind the arthritis in my neck and one shoulder are unbearable.

-20 with sunshine calm. Got up and lit the fire and then cuddled up with the cat in bed until the house warmed up some. I put on a large fat log into the furnace for the night, and when it burns right I don't have to add wood in the middle of the night. I skied half the trail yesterday as we had 10 cms of new snow that needs to be packed down and my hip can only take so much.
This season appears to be a big wide winter, we might see temperatures reaching the -30s next week, and when it does the wood furnace needs constant attention, yet the skiing is fine when dressed for the weather.

7c and grey and damp......well we've passed our shortest day and can look forward to Spring hahaha.Today the daylight will last an (much looked forward to by Diane) extra three seconds.I can't bear the excitement......

Oh, gosh! just 3 seconds. At that rate we'll be knocking 3 secs off each day until Spring.
No heating on as yet. Fog is the only problem... no, I tell a lie, anyone tried their local supermarket today? Next year I give every visitor some elemental 028Extra liquid feed.

Just called into a Sainsbury Local for bread while out for a pedal....no problem. Weather forecast looks a bit samey for the weekend so nothing to moan about.Son Scott in Bali for the hols.Fares are cheap due to volcano burbling.Told him not to roast his chestnuts in the lava.......

Lightly snowing.....might turn into freezing rain later today.....schools were closed due to the weather, so DD is home decorating a gingerbread train on her extra day off for vacation!

I have been watching this volcanic eruption; I'd be very wary about travel to Bali as Agung is very unstable and could yet have a very big eruption. Make sure one has good travel and medical insurance, airport shutdowns are a very real possibility. I guess the upside could be an extended beach side vacation.
-12 with light snow.

I hope Scott stays safe up in Bali. That area of the pacific ring of fire has always been very volatile. I remember reading the historic reports on the Krakatoa eruption. One minute there was a mountain ,next minute nothing. They heard the bang in London. Where I live we have monuments to the distant past when Australia was part of the ring. All of the glasshouse mountains are eroded volcanic plugs. When you see how many there are I am glad they are all extinct. Hot and steamy today with a chance of storms from midday. Ron.

10c.sunny.lots of blue sky.Scott told us AFTER they arrived, for obvious reasons. They're in the middle of splitting up (amicabley) and her stuff won't be delivered to Perth until next week.So for him,it was Bali or the in-laws.......and he gets "ME" time with the kids.

So sorry to hear that Carol, amicable or not it is a tough time from someone who has crashed and burned twice. Christmas is not really the wonderful happy time we make it out to be , Hugs Ron.

Sorry to hear that Carol. Sad for Scott, but amicably is good. Nice final holiday for them though. Sensible people up where you are, perhaps none celebrate Xmas there, lol.

Not so cold and a bit dreary today.

It's now 12c with a lovely rosey glow in the sky as dusk falls.Jackdaws making a racket as they settle down for the night.Just saw that an "arctic blast" forecast for xmas day, when all I want for xmas is a fine day to get out for a peddle.
RE Scott's split. He's quite happy about it.It was his call and he says it's been a long time coming. That's all we want for our kids,to be happy. The grandkids are old enough to understand and he'll see them lot's.We're over the moon.....

Glad to hear that it is all working out for the best Carol. Sometimes it takes a bit of pain for longer term gain, hope Scott has good weather and the volcano remains calm for the trip.
We are heading for the deep freeze for the next several days, I will spend Christmas alone on my skis, and on the trail there is no loneliness with natures beauty in full winter's glory.
The stores were crazy yesterday as I waded through the crowds, refilled my meds, restocked supplies, and came home with a treat of Chinese. For Christmas I will roast a chicken and call family.

I'm pleased they're happy to split, Carol. Means they can both move on and find new love if they feel inclined. Really enjoyed the extra 6 seconds of light today, lol.

32c today and very steamy. They are predicting storms today and Christmas day. I heard from my son today. He is ok the big storm that hit the southern Philipines missed his island. Sadly around 200 dead or missing on the mainland. Terrible Christmas present. . Best wishes to everyone for tomorrow and please stay safe. Ron.

Ron I'm glad your son is safe too and a Happy Xmas and better health for you in the New Year.....Bufford your posts are always interesting like Rons ,and it's a pleasure to know you.We haven't celebrated Xmas since Scott moved to Aus. 19yrs ago, except for a couple over there, which was weird (excuse me Ron).If it's fine we'll go for a cycle.
Today it's 12c and cloudy but colder weather on the way by mid-week

-20 with brilliant sunshine. Its 21 years today since my Dad passed away from colon cancer. If he were to come back he wouldn't understand the craziness of today's world, but I'm sure he would fall in love with those big screen TVs and the cameras. I'll be thinking of him when I travel the ski trail this afternoon.

Have a good Christmas Buff. If I was capable I would be out on the big blue on my own today , enjoying some fishing and getting a detox from modern life. Ironically in 27 days I reach the end of my twentieth year as a colon cancer survivor and my long time friend ,Virginnia in Newzealand sent me a message that she has just ended year 24 ex stage 4. I was 3c. We both suffer from severe long term side effects but we battle on . It is Christmas morning here in Australia so merry Christmas to all of my friends here, Hugs from Ron.

Well it's warm enough but threatening to rain.Hope we get out on the bikes before it starts, but being me, I have to be sure things are "OK".No public loos open today, which is ridiculous.I mean what are older folk and kids to do ? It's 32/26 years since our folks and siblings passed over and they too would be astounded at the changes. (we went through a few years of losing everyone we cared about except our son, best not to dwell on it,especially today) sending hugs to you all.

Had Christmas dinner with my ex and her travelling companion. I don't drink and he had enough for both of us . Interesting day . I didn't get home late and arrived just before a sneaky storm. Well that's my Christmas holiday over, back to work tomorrow. Lots of high school machines to service. OH joy. Ron.(It was 33c today)

Well the rain stayed away and we cycled for a couple of hours. We naughtily went through the shopping centre just because we could. It was weirdly empty except for litter blowing around.Had lunch and are now watching Jeremiah Johnson for the 4th time. It's either that or the xmas crap.:ybatty:

Scott says it's rained for 3 days on the trot in Bali and he's got Delhi belly.Or Bali belly to be precise.......:eek2:

-27C Furnace is hungry at these temperatures and I don't waste time heading out to the outhouse. Brilliant sunshine today, but otherwise gentle. Ron a day out on the water sounds like a great way to relax, you a survivor for sure. In summer I enjoy spending time out in the canoe. In winter I ski, and with the exercise I stay toasty warm, the ski boots made today make it possible to stay out much longer without the problem of cold or worse freezing feet. Yesterday I had a relaxing ski followed by a roast chicken.
I hope everyone is having a Merry one today.

Typical British weather here, and yes i'm moaning. Wet, Windy but not too cold.
Merry Xmas to all. I'm just waiting for the Crohns to play up now, lol.

3c sunny.Just saw a headline saying Britain is to be "buried" under 10 centimeters of snow today. You have to laugh eh. Buff.? So embarrassing !!!

It is nearly 9.00pm and I am looking out the window at all of the lightning strikes on the range inland of me . They forecast a bad storm for us. Up on the Toowoomba range it dropped hailstones the size of oranges. We don't usually get bad hail at night the temps are not high enough to produce the updrafts needed. I hope not. Ron.

Dangerous...If it comes your way Ron,don't take risks...

we had a good pedal today, but oh,Lordy there were far to many people about.Of course to many for us is 3-4.There were even folk in the fish and chip restaurant down on the quay. There have been a few traditional Boxing day dips in the sea.Purple legs are so not a good look.

Nope to cold for water, I used to do the purple legs wading into the water. Cold just means pain anymore. Well it snowed for Christmas here. Hoping it will melt to be able to drive home by Wed or Thur. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all.

-33C Cold, but not nearly as cold as wading into water at this time of year getting purple legs...Ha! Obviously my wood furnace does not have Crohn's I can only wish to have an appetite like that. But I do remember once upon a time that I could pack away pizzas, like it does wood.
Went for a -27C ski yesterday, I lasted an hour and a half and by then I was good and ready to come back in. The cold is invigorating, but after awhile it starts to creep into the best of clothing. The biggest issue is the wind, and in these conditions windchill values can only be described as burning, there is no other way to describe it. Today its colder, but the wind is light, I might be able to go farther this afternoon.

10cms, that may not be much, but I've seen it on the news how it closes down areas that are not used to getting snow and don't have the equipment to move it. But why does it not occur to people to use it as an advantage to stay home and enjoy a decent glass of Scotch near the wood stove instead of being on the front page news stranded and exposed on the highways?

On Christmas day here it was not purple legs it was red legs. The air temp was 33c and the water temp was nearly 25c. You had to get to the beach early to find a space to lay down otherwise it was standing room only not that anyone can really stand on 40c+ sand. Needless to say You wouldn't have found me on the beach. My meds produce enough sun cancers with out the need of any further uv radiation. If I tried what you do Buff they would find a giant popsicle on the trail. I love the cold but it hates me. Ron.

Good to see you Jane:ghug:

1c,hard frost during the night but the streets are dry,so OK to walk.
Another weather headline today forecasts a mini ice age for the UK.
I will not be going out then unless we put chains on the bikes and sleds on the back for the Scotch

Apparently the mini ice age is not forecast until 2030,I might still be here but I will prob.have a mobility scooter instead of a bike. Then folk will REALLY have something to worry about........Also 24,000 are without power around the country's busiest motorway, due to over night snow.....and so it begins !!!!

After a mild and rainy Christmas it's nice to see the temperature has dropped in Cumbria, frosty and about 1-2 degrees C, snow higher up on the hills. Went for my first run (more like a very slow jog) in months as I've let my symptoms keep me very inactive. Managed not to slip on tge ice so I'll call that a win!

Large supercell went thru the south burnett region last night . several old queenslanders (houses not people) destroyed. It is amazing some of these rambling old single story timber houses have survived years of cyclones but the fury of these supercell storms is ripping them to pieces. Not friendly. Ron.

Welcome, Erk, Nice to have you along.
Ron50, that weather is far worse than our snow. Yes, more of the white stuff. Not exactly -33, but cold enough for me to stay in and stay warm. No cycling or jogging for me as the joints are just not up to it.

When I lived in Bude down in Cornwall there was always lots of Christmas day swimmers. Not sure they swam at all, more like shivered getting into the water then shivered even more running out. Definitely purple legs there.

I still have power but plenty around and about Northants are without power. I'm pleased about that otherwise everything about me would be purple.

-33C this morning with the sunshine flooding in. Yesterday we had little wind, and with the warm sun on my back I skied the entire main trail, about 7 Kms. The cold air is invigorating, and I do believe it helps my Crohn's. I think what it does is improve my blood circulation and metabolism. I nearly always feel great when I come back in from one of those quick outhouse visits.
However, inside the house I cannot tolerate a cold house, I keep the place at 24 to 26 during the day and cooler at night. Wood heat is ideal as it is steady, and I can produce any temperature I want, that furnace has plenty of heat.
Keeping up with the wood supply keeps me going all summer. Last summer was very cold and I used more wood than I wanted too, so I am a bit behind this winter, but should make it. If not then I will have to cut down some dead trees along the trail. I have a standard oil furnace as a back up, which is fine when I am away, but it sure is not as warm and comfortable as wood.

Really quite cold out. Still some snow, but all is iced over now. Nothing too Canadian like here so I don't know why i'm complaining. The sun is out which is great.

Hot and stormy every day for the next week. I wish deodorant makers didn't lie so much with the claim '' especially for sensitive skin''. Or maybe some for really, really, really sensitive skin. Ron.

Fairly cold and quiet -25C. I am going to do some 'left n right' up the ski trail. I'm staying away from the stores until after the newyear, the flu is making the rounds.

I had a night from hell last night. I fell over in the bathroom at around 7.30 pm . I could not get up . Every time I raised my head I started throwing up. It is one of the worst vertigo attacks I have had. I have a terrible mess on the bathroom floor that I have to clean up this morning as I wasn't just vomiting. I finally took a double dose of phenerghan and a double dose of somac at 2.30 this morning and had a big drink of cold water ,I was so dehydrated. It stayed down long enough to help then it came up again. At least it gave me something to bring up. I got to bed at 3.00 am.. I feel very fragile today. At least it is not as hot today. There is an after hours doctor service. I called them but they were too busy to come out. I hate vertigo, Ron.

Light snow tonight

Ron,I was going to say "everything seems worse in the middle of the night" but I don't think it could get any worse for you.I really feel for you mate.I don't have to tell you to take it easy.Feel better soon.

2c and sunny start, but clouding over now.Storm Dylan on the way for NYs eve but it won't effect me one bit.....

Ron I hope your are coming back around after a hard night. Getting sick is bad enough, dealing with the aftermath is another. -27C under blue cobalt skies. Skiing weather, there was a very large moose I'd estimate was probably close to half a tonne tore up the top end of the bog with his huge legs and hoofs. Unsustainable clearcut logging is threatening the very existence of these magnificent animals as our indigenous forests are dissapearing fast.

It is sad to see loss of any habitat Buff. I see it with fishing. I live in a large state and in the time it has been occupied not one idiot has thought to leave even one of our many rivers and estuaries to remain in a totally pristine state to act as a baseline for the health of all the others..
I'm not going too well Carol , I am still dizzy and can't eat anything. I have not been able to go in and work on the school machines. When I feel bad and close to throwing up again I just have to lay down for a couple of hours. I don't want to go thru another major episode. It is really hard when you live alone, Ron.

-5 f but sunny..... Horses seem to be handling it ok, I put out an 800 lb round bale of hay Thursday evening and they are doing a really good job of destroying it! Sure beats me having to go out and feed them in this cold! Heated water trough should last a couple more days at least too before I have to defrost the spigot again!

It is frigid here.

It has just turned over to New year here in Australia. Happy new year to all . It is still 23c at midnight. Several supercells passed thru earlier this afternoon wrecking one camping area and dumping some big hail. Ron.

I wish I could send you a couple of fairy helpers Ron.I'm not happy to hear that you're not eating, but I understand why you're not.I really hope next year is a better one for you,but all we can be grateful for at our age is that we got through 2017 in one piece (more or less).Best wishes to you and all our weather whingers.

Ron50
At one time there was no industrial logging taking place in our local forests. But since wood is in short supply they allow it now. They select a forest and clear cut the whole area, they litterally flatten the land to make it look like it was hit by an atomic bomb - no forest for as far as one's eye can see. Worse yet they spray herbicides in order to kill off all broadleaf plants which includes the food sources for animals. Then they plant only one or two types of trees, usually Jack pine and spruce.
The problem is that these tree farms cannot support wildlife when there is no or little food, the other problem is that more often or not the resulting growth is poor, prone to insects and fire. In the future the fear is that these planted forests will become prone to wildfires.
-32C brilliant sunshine, its winter in her full glory.

@Ron50. Happy New Year! I'm so sorry you're suffering. I know it is hard to be ill alone. Not that I have vertigo to contend with. You have my sympathy. Guess who had a hospital appointment and now has the flu? It doesn't pay to have a compromised immune system.

@Buff. I so hate what we humans do to our environment. It's a tragedy we humans exist to satisfy ourselves with no concern for any other species. Must have been lovely to see that moose. Sounding beautifully Christmassy up there. I'm envious.

Well, quite mild today, some rain and some sun.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE.

I agree with all the above posts. It makes me so sad.I fear man is on track to totally destroy this beautiful planet in the not to distant future.

A nice day here.7c and sunny but the sun isn't drying the streets.I had a few "oops" moments while cycling and almost demolished somebody's fence at one point.
Ron50...I hope you're feeling better, and Diane take good care of yourself, cold spell on the way at the weekend.

-27 Mainly sunny with a breeze. I maybe disabled by this miserable illness but I am still a fighter. I am committed to stopping the madness. I managed to stop them for the time being from logging up to my property line, and I will uphold the battle until I cannot. I want to inform the world that Canada does NOT have a sustainable forestry plan in place at this time when it desperately needs one.

We had some sun today but it's also still wet out here to, Carol. New Years Eve and cycling might not be a good idea either, lol. At least you're on the bike. Well done you.

Well, New Years Eve was quite eventful. Great nephew got knocked off his motorbike by a woman who had no car tax, then two hours later mum had heart attack. Both seem to be pulling through. Both up and on their feet today so that's good.

Hoping Ron50 is getting better.

Off to the doctors this morning . My airways are closing down . I think some vomit may have gone down my airway on Friday night. I am not feeling great at the moment , Ron.PS I hope your mother is ok Di,hugs Ron.

I couldn't have said it better Bufford, "...Canada does NOT have a sustainable forestry plan in place at this time..." They are seriously wrecking our forests here too. Clear cut logging, stupid is as stupid does.:ybatty:

4c and miserably grey today. Ron and Di., not a good start to the New Year for either of you eh ? Glad your family are ok D., and Ron,i know you'll keep us posted. As to the future of our world....when you think of how long Earth has happily turned on it's axis and the miniscule length of time it has taken Man to destroy it,it's terrifying.I reckon the destruction began about 2oo yrs ago and it's escalating at a tremendous speed. One day in the near future, after we've used up all resources and killed all we could eat or wear,Man will stand amid devastation and wonder "what now"?

Very wet, lots of rain and gloomy. Still have flu, but that's nothing to worry about really considering other peoples problems and the state of the world. Roll on Spring though, lol.

Saw the doc today, straight to hospital. Keytones way too high, badly dehydrated plus my heart has taken a beating, ecg showed atrial fibrillation. Have to see my doc tomorrow to discuss wafrin. Also have to check with neph re compatabiity of wafrin with cyclosporine. May have to have an endoscopy as well due to the possibility of a bleeding ulcer. (not recommended with wafrin) HNY Ron.

Ron50 you have had more than your fair share of setbacks, at least you are in good hands with the medical team. Hopefully 2018 will only improve for you from this point.
-18C Partly cloudy, this could be considered mild, as tomorrow its going back into the deep freeze and I will be skiing. 2018 came in with some grace for me, I was suffering inflammation in the rectal area below my stoma for the past week and a half, and for some reason it backed off almost completely yesterday. If there was only some way to understand and predict what the scourge will do next.

Ron,I'm glad you've seen the doc and got the ball rolling, wishing you the best.
Di.,look after yourself and you Ron,the Oz.flu strain is here and it's a doozy.
Buff.glad you've recovered the latest setback.Crohn's is the gift that keeps on giving and no body can say it's boring.Never 2 days the same here.

Mild and fine for the time of year.High winds from storm Eleanor during the night, but I slept through it all.
Have seen the atrocious weather in the USA and Canada on our news.We Brits have nothing to whinge about.....but we will.Keep safe all.

I saw the news that winter is in high gear in Britain, I hope you all have a good fuel supply and a glass of Scotch to keep warm. Winter is big and wide this year. I stocked up yesterday and will stay put out here in the bush. The flu is rampant, and the hospital is reporting that it is full and to avoid using the ER if at all possible. Basically they are making a public announcement warning people to not get sick.

We're having the same warning not to get sick.50,000 non emergency ops have been cancelled and if you are sick enough to need an ambulance it highly likely you'll have to wait in the ambulance in the parking lot ,or on a trolley in a corridor for hours on end.I find it very scarey,You;re wise not to mix with the "common"people Buff.but please avoid those killer trees too.
RON 50.......how you doin' mate ?

Hi carol , I started the dreaded wafrin today have my first coagulation test Friday. No dramas so far. That flu is dreadful my ex was off work for nearly eight weeks with it. It has caused a number of deaths in Australia and not all aged or unwell patients. Some of the victims were teenage children and adults in their twenties including one young pregnant mother of two. Very sad. I get the shot every year I think it helps but I still stay out of crowds and avoid public transport , in fact avoid people in general, Hermit Ron.

Wet,wet, wet today.Sensible to keep away from crowds when you can.I hate crowds at the best of times.Of course, Docs. surgeries are a breeding ground too.Try to keep as well as you can Ron.Have you got your appetite back ? I'll send you a pie....

Nothing is working Carol. When you fall off the tightrope it takes forever to get back on . Having major problems with hydration. I got some hydrolite today I either wasn't going or if I did it looked like cola, couldn't get off the loo now I'm constipated. Sometimes you just want to give up. Hot sticky weather on top of everything . Yuk Ron.
