What is YOUR weather like today??

-32C under brilliant sunshine. I put on the extra log at breakfast and now the house is hot. Feels good with a mug of coffee reading the news and coming here to chat. I have fear and respect for the flu. I had to use the public bathroom the day before and I swear that I can smell the flu and the eventual future pandemic that maybe brewing. I try not to touch anything, shopping carts are bad enough and I use a generous portion of hand sanitizer when I get back into my pickup truck.

1c and fine.No frost or wind so going for a cycle later.

Those of you in the states having worrying weather, take care and don't takes risks.!!!

Another coagulation test in the morning, sounds like I will be going every day for the next week or so till they work out the dose. Entire eastern seaboard of Australia is set to cook tomorrow with lots of areas in the 40c's . A day in front of the fan with lots of hydralyte. Ron.

-32 sunny and quiet. Not much going on in the center of the country, but down on the east coast they had a wild storm. Poor night's sleep last night, I might make it up with a long mid day snooze if I can get my mind to stop going in circles. Maybe I can ski it out later on.

Extreme heat in the southern states today. Serious bushfires in South Australia /border and in Victoria including the Melbourne southern suburbs where houses have been destroyed. Hot in Queensland and western NSW but not as bad as the other states . Cool changes hitting the hottest areas this evening , unfortunately they are accompanied by very strong winds raising the fire danger. Ron.

I know I've said this before Ron,but I don't know how you can bear it.Other problems apart,it's got to be so unhealthy.I know people from over here emigrate because they find your weather attractive, but most of them have to live to regret it.Of course Buff is at the opposite end of the spectrum, but in his temps.there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.I know where I'd rather be.Even our measley summers get to much for me,where as I feel so much better in 10 - 15 c.

Cold gusty wind today, sun is struggling to make an appearance.

-30 cold and calm. Winter here is generally quiet, and being prepared for the cold it is not difficult but in summer conditions around here can be similar to what Ron has to deal with; Hot unstable weather with thunderstorms that can be violent, and forest fires. Then there are the parasites and biting flies. Lyme's is a serious disease brought by deer ticks, I still wonder if my Crohn's was started by a tick bite back when I was young. I will probably never know.

minus 1c but getting up to a balmy 5 later.Roads are dry so will go for a cycle later. We like to get the bikes out when the weather allows and it could be wet and windy tomorrow.

We used to holiday a lot in Scotland,3-4 times a year for over thirty years, and I had tick bites a couple of times as well as the dogs. But they had drops to clear them up.I did have blood tests for Lymnes but they came back clear.Midges (mossies) also loved me.I always came back covered in polka dots no matter what precautions I took.Oh.happy days...

Temps were off the scale in NSW today . Penrith in the western suburbs of Sydney recorded its highest temp on record at three this afternoon. 47.3c Doctors are reporting a lot of heat stress, temps will be in the 40's there again tomorrow. Western Qld is due for the heat next but the coastal strip will not be as bad (I hope). I am going back to work tomorrow after my latest coagulation test. They have been gradually increasing my wafrin using the international normalised ratio. Untreated inr is usually 1 they are aiming to get it between 2-3 . currently I am at 1.3 so I have a way to go.
We were talking about the bali Volcano a couple of weeks ago. A small island in Papua started erupting today. It was thought to be dormant if not extinct and there is no historical data records on it having erupted except it the distant past. The Island is inhabited and had to be evacuated. Ron.

It's a sign of the times, Ron50, eruptions are at a high lately. Must check out that Papua one on youtube. Someone will have uploaded something. And thought to be extinct. Oh dear. 47C is rather high too. Sincerely hope they sort your health for you Ron. Stay cool.

Cold night here, lots of ice around, but sunny and increasing temps throughout the day.
Stay away from ticks everyone. Hedgehogs have masses of them which, if too many, can kill them.

Scotland and the North of England (us) might get temps.of minus 15c in the next day or two,but I read in today's paper that parts of the USA could get minus 100c with the wind chill......We had a good bike ride today. No wind really helps. It was cold but enjoyable and interesting.

-12C and gray. We had 4 cms of snow last night. Scientists are predicting that seismic activity will increase this year due to planetary fluctuations brought by a slowdown of its rotation. It could be an interesting year, if there is a major eruption from the active volcanoes, I will take heed and cut extra firewood.
When Mount Pinatubo went up in 1991 we had a very long big wide winter with snows deeper than I ever saw in my life. We were snowmobiling in the middle of may and had snow banks linger into June the year following the eruption.

Yesterday I was complaining because I'm fed up with low winter sun always in my eyes.today I'm complaining because it's grey and miserable. It's milder than it's been, about 5c,but it's hard to know what it's going to do.....rain or snow ?
I hope you're all as well as you can be......

We are expecting a week of heatwave with some storms next weekend. Having quite a bit of trouble surviving the heat and humidity. Still haven't got over the vertigo attack last week. Worked the last two days but I was really unwell tonight in the heat. I was late taking my warfarin , hope it does not screw things up, there again I'm not sure I really care, Ron.

We certainly do, Ron50. Is it possible for you to work just part time, and why don't they have the opposite of sauna's out there? Sounds to me as though you need a good cool down in a fridgelike room. I'm sure it would help.

Forgot to mention the weather... or perhaps it's just not worth mentioning. On the bright side my neighbour has snowdrops and I have primroses out. But it's really cold, drab, wet weather. Yuk.

They had snow in the Sahara desert, I'm pretty sure I know where they sent the heat. Ron.

Hot and steamy , 35c+ expected on the weekend. Living on hydralyte. No warfarin tonight my INr went up to 3.5 today 4mg tomorrow night , tests again Friday. My body is so stuffed I doubt that they will ever get things in balance. Monday my BP was 96/64 the next day 158/108.Impossible to treat that. We may get storms on Sat and Sunday. Anything for a little cool. Ron.

-1 and finally a good storm is brewing. The weather has been stagnant since the deep freeze was pushed out. When this happens it becomes gray and dismal. We are supposed to get one of those winter shaping storms; big snow with big cold. Looking forward to it and the good snow conditions that follow. Not looking forward to digging out from these big ones. However things don't come for free, there is a price for everything even a good snowstorm.

-17 Snow and blowing snow. We are on the business end of the storm now with about 15 cms and some more coming. Went for a long snowmobile ride and some ice fishing with the neighbor his son with his young daughters yesterday. They got a bit cranky, but its amazing what a wiener roast will do to put big smiles on their faces. Didn't catch anything, but it was the day out that counts. The ice on the lakes are 2 feet or over 60 cm thick.

I love to get out when the weather allows. We went for a bike ride up the coast, and to be honest,it was pretty miserable.Drizzly damp and cold (no where near as cold as Canada though)But I was glad we made the effort.

Feels quite mild but still dismal.there was fog earlier but it has cleared a bit. There's an old song from the 70s calles Fog On The Tyne by Lindisfarne,a local group, if anyone wants a google. They were very popular and quite well known for years. Then we all got old.....Clear White Light was a favourite of mine.

We had the fog to start with but it has cleared from the East Midlands now. No sunshine but not too cold.

Sound like an idyllic winter scene, Bufford.

@Ron50, doesn't sound idyllic.

Stay safe all.

The sun struggled through while we were out cycling and it was warm enough to sit and have a flask of coffee. The bluebells are quite high now,but it's far to soon to think Spring has arrived...alas.

After weeks of snow and temps below zero with wind chill of -20F and colder it is in the 40's and rainy. Tomorrow it will go back to the deep freeze. Unbelievable.

-30 outside and +26 inside. The furnace is running well. Cobalt blue skies soaking under brilliant sunshine. These are the days that I embrace the outdoors. Clean fresh air and the warmth of the sun on my back as I ski the trail in the afternoons. No need for insect repellent, they will be back soon enough.

One third through January. I'm pleased to be able to say that. Give it a few days and we'll be half way through. Roll on February and roll on Spring. Nice to know other peoples flowers are coming up. Gives me hope that life is about to be renewed. I love Spring, Summer and Autumn. Not really a winter person.

Do you take photo's Bufford, perhaps paint the scenery that you describe. It sounds bloody lovely. Enjoy.

Very hot night temps hardly dropped from the daytime temp of 32c . The year has not gotten any better. My Ex ( still my wife really as we never divorced) collapsed at work . She received a text to tell her that her god son ,her sisters eldest son, had taken his own life overnight .The ambulance checked her over, they wanted to take her to hospital for observation but she would not go . She has asked me to go to the funeral with her and my stepson Brad. It will be very sad as Lachlan has four children under 13. He and Brad were very close. I have urgent work to get done so I will work for the rest of the weekend so I will have time to go to the funeral .. Very hot for the next two days with temps over 36c by Sunday. Ron.

Very sad news Ron.....It seems to me that suicide is getting a sad option for a lot of people.Maybe it has always been so,and media is bringing it to our attention more.On the plus side, there seems to be more help for those who feel they can ask.Or maybe not.Perhaps that is also a media/political thing. His kids and partner will take a long time to come to terms with his death but we all know times a great healer.
I hope you have air/con at work Ron,you must mind your own health.

Cold and breezy 5c here, and grey.Going to settle down with a book.

Ron50, I'm truly sorry about your loss. It does affect people badly, especially if they are younger people that die. As Scottsma says, take care of yourself. Your health matters too.

Not too bad today, but would give anything to see a tad of sunshine.

Ron50 very sad and tragic. Too many die needlessly if they only knew how valuable life is. As Crohn's survivors we know the value of life as we seek ways to try to keep ourselves ahead of the scourge.
I wish I could share a day on the ski trail with those who feel so lost in life.
Spooky, I don't know much about technology, or I'd love to share photos.

I think one of the reasons the suicide rate seems higher today is that, at least here in Australia, it was considered very bad form for the media to mention that any death was by suicide. There were a lot of suicides during the depression and after the servicemen arrived back from the various wars but these were rarely labelled as such in the media. And suicide was considered a sin by many of the religious faiths, so was often covered up.

I know from personal experience that you never really recover from the suicide of someone close to you.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I'm sorry Susan that it has impacted your life. We go to the funeral on Thursday. If not for doctors and medication my stepson brad may have followed the same path. In Australia we have pretty well been brought up not to talk about our problems . Cancer was a word that was rarely spoken and I had no real Idea what I was in for until I got it. Same with depression and bullying. We lost a beautiful 14 year old girl this week. She took her own life due to cyber bullying. We all need to consider the problem and find a way to combat it.
Carol I wish my workplace was airconditioned. I just have to rely on fans and a lot of anti-perspirent. We had a severe thunder storm last night. A couple if times I think I smelt ozone from very close lightning strikes. It is going to reach 36c today in Nambour with more severe storms this afternoon. The wind is very strong out of the north west and there is a very high fire danger. Ron.

Cold and breezy 3c.
Buff......it's nice to know someone else like me who admits to being a techno phobe

I only know what I need to know.I really don't give two hoots about technology, except for that which helps people of course.Photos and selfies and stuff doesn't interest me one bit.People actually upload pics of their dinner !!!! not to mention the unmentionables. Give me a break.....

We had a cool change come thru tonight not that means much just that it has dropped from 36c to 28c. Parts of Victoria and Tasmania had snow today. How crazy is that? Big report on the news tonight about what the aussie flu is doing to the UK. I feel for you . As a nation we do not have a large population . We lost 600 people to the flu this past winter. All the scientists are telling us that it is just going to keep on getting worse. Cheerful buggers. Ron.

I'm not brilliant at uploading photos either, hence no Avatar for me. I shall google image your neck of the woods, Bufford.

Ron50, we heard about 'Dolly' the girl who killed herself. Technology is outrageous for nastiness. Oh, and 28C is what we would call a heatwave. Snow in those places too, Ron, omg, what is this world coming too. Pole shift i suspect. It has to happen at some time. And I'm trying to avoid the Aussie flu myself.

Quite mild out but still no sunshine.

When I step out into the wilderness the world has not changed much in all time. But the times we live in are truly going crazy, it just does not appear to be sustainable. Be it the endless destruction of our forests by greed, or the threat of war, I don't feel that there is much time left for this present age we live in.
-12 cloudy with a flurry.
Spooky1, try googling up Northwester Ontario, and the Canadian Boreal forest.

Bufford, i had a good google image of NWT and it looks stunning. Seems to be far from the hassle and hustle of todays modern society. I envy you.

Weather today, rain followed by sun and i've noticed i've got a couple of daffodils with their heads in bud. Looking forwards to seeing them out. Any sign of spring is good for me. the afternoons are a tad lighter too. There is hope.

Slight reprieve in the heat. A bearable 28c today. Off to the clinic again today, having a great deal of trouble with warfarin. I started out well and by the end of week one I had my inr where they wanted it at 2.3 . since then with much lower doses of the drug and tree days not taking it at all my inr has risen to 5.2 and is starting to really worry my gp. I just hope my plumbing is better than I think it is, Ron.

2c. less with the wind chill, and raining.Sleet, snow and gusty wind, due later today and tomorrow.....but it won't last long.....she says hopefully.

-18 mainly sunny with some fresh snow from yesterday. Warm up coming for a few days before returning to seasonal next week. I might do a fuel run. I buy my gasoline in bulk about 4 times a year from the First Nations reserve where fuel is far cheaper. Don't need any furnace oil and usually buy that in late summer when its at its lowest price.
My pension is small because I retired early so I am very creative when it comes to saving money. Penny pinching on the fuel and burning wood are the best ways to save without cramping one's lifestyle.

-3c during the night left y/day's wet snow frozen, but there are dry patches to be seen so not bad.Sunny now,but wintery showers and gales expected later.
At least we're on the "right" side of Christmas,so there's hope in the air.
Buff.there's nothing wrong in being careful with cash.I hate waste, especially food waste. It's so unnecessary.....

Quite bright today. Last night we saw a brief flurry of snow, but now just a tad icy out. Have a sweet black and white Jackdaw with injured wing. Does anyone know how to fix this as vets will just put him down. Is he best put down? Any advice would be good.

Have a google D.,or have a word with the 'hog people who might know somebody who will take it.You really don't want to be stuck with it, as much as you'd like to.Not fair to either of you unless you can mend his wing.:frown:

-13 breezy. Its mid winter and I'll take it while we still have it. I don't know what it is but January has a habit of racing by. Scottsma, I really hate food waste too. As I age, and with the rise and fall of Crohn's I find that sometimes I just cannot get the last few fork fulls down and its not enough to save. However, those whisky jacks and jays will clean up the plate, they can use it, and I wonder how these birds keep warm all winter. But like me they seem to love winter too.

I have your problem Buff.I can never clear a plate, but the birds are more than happy to clear it up.Mostly though,I don't eat much at all.I do look back in fondness to the old days of fry ups and take away Chinese and indian meals, but that really would be a waste now.

Frost has cleared.Temps.falling now as it's dusk and gusty wind.

Those days are long gone for me too, but I remember the huge meals I used to eat and I loved Chinese food and giant pizzas. Today an appetizer is often more than enough.

I live in an ever narrowing corridor of foods that I am allowed to eat. I have always had to avoid fatty foods due to high cholesterol, my urea and uric acid levels means a low purine diet, type two diabetes means that apart from some fresh fruits I need to avoid sweets and sugar and now I have to avoid a lot of the green leafy veges because they are high in vit k which is a warfarin antagonist. You don't live any longer but it certainly seems like it. 28c today the southern states are having another heatwave , I guess it will reach us sooner or later. Ron.

Despite a severe weather warning for us during the night, woke up to zilch.Well I say woke up,I didn't sleep at all due to restless legs.Argh !!!
Scotland and the borders got the hammer on Tue/wed and we are just a few miles south,It's 1c and frosty but there are patches of blue sky so maybe it fizzled out before it reached us.....

Cold and sunny again. Am loving the sun. The wind last night though was amazing.

Unfortunately my black and white jackdaw died last night. He did look rather old and in blast beruffled plume. So i think he was on his last legs. He was quite friendly though. All these rescued animals dying on me leaves me thinking i should leave nature to do it's duty.

Its always hard to have a fond pet die, they become family and provide unconditional love. Its a gray day here, mild -5. Winter is a bit slow, but I'm sure at some point we will get big snow bringing in big cold again. I broke the snow rake for removing snow from roofs when I brought it home from the cabin, I hope I can fix the long pole by using a length of electrical conduit. These snow rakes don't come cheap, and the older shed is straining from the snow load.

Bit chilly, but the sun is out and i love that.

I was going to say re: jackdaw. At least he died safely with you and not in the cold being pecked or nibbled . And are you watching The Secret Life Of the Zoo
Tues.Ch.4 at 8pm.It's brilliant.......sun's trying really hard to shine here too now.

-3 Gray and mild. I bought some pipe to fix the roof rake, I'm going to try to get one shed done at a time. Its tough on my stomach muscles working the snow rake, I'll do what I can and stop. Gone are the days when one could hire the neighbor's young to do these things.

Turned out to be a lovely afternoon with lot's of sunshine and no wind.Only 3c but definitely a bit of heat in the sun......sun block not needed though.

-2 dark, gray depressing weather. I managed to clear one shed of snow yesterday, today I will do another one. We had a rainshower yesterday afternoon which is unusual for January.

Sunny and hot 30c and high humidity. Had to go and have my inr checked again this morning. They have me back on warfarin but my inr is still at 3.0 which is still to high.
Anniversary tomorrow 22/1/98 I had my cancer cut out. given three year max to live, tomorrow I reach 20 years and I can't even have a celebratory drink. have one for me. Ron.

Well you must be doing something right Ron,or you have an angel on your shoulder.....Have the years flown by or have they dragged on ? :rosette1::medal1::applause::beerchug::award2:

Not even a tiny shot Ron? I'll be sure to have a scotch for you later, 20 years is an accomplishment. -7 and still gray, I cleared another shed roof yesterday, and have one more to go today. The big storm that was being watched has moved too far east to catch us. That's okay, we have plenty of snow.

The snow is finally gone again with no freezing into ice. The birds have been out in force stuffing their beaks.

Congratulations, Ron50. Amazing story.

Thanks everyone. Very long Carol and all downhill. Thanks Ron. I am not game Buff between the cyclosporine , the warfarin and the auto immune hepatitis it just is not worth it. Yes Dianne just not sure if it is amazingly good or bad. Another warm day , expecting rain and storms during the week. The monsoon has finally arrived in the north of the state so the weather will be unsettled for a while Ron.

We had snow for an hour or so last evening and it froze during the night. It's 5c so far today and it looks as though it's melting. The temps are set to rise to double figures in the south during the week but not so much here....Buff,when hubs and I were young we really fancied Canada, but life got in the way.Yesterday, as we were walking along the riverside ,I was telling him of your lifestyle and "adventures".He reckons that some days you would just like to turn the central heating on with a switch and be able to walk to the shops and doctors. They say the grass is always greener over the fence.

-14 still gray. Yesterday I did the third and final shed. Done, and so am I. Scotsma many times I have thought about throwing in the towel and move into a seniors apartment. However, I know that it would not work out well, I'd get bored and I would be out of shape and then the health problems would get worse.

All the mandatory exercise I get from handling firewood, yard work and maintenance does me good. I would really miss those trips to the outhouse when the sun shines on those cold winter mornings. But I wouldn't miss those days with the biting flies, the rain and black bears.

Had some sun today, but then it clouded over. Not exactly freezing however, it's definitely chilly in the wind. Tomorrow and the rest of the week should be milder. I look forward to that i must say.

How big are the Black Bears????

@Ron50, i love your humour.

The weather pattern here is still holding. It has pretty much been between -8C up to a high of 1C with gusts during the days this last while. Today, for once, I was feeling like spring may be early this year... lets hope I'm right.

9c so far (9-50am) and will probably rise a wee bit.Mostly grey sky with the odd patch of blue.....enough to make a pair of sailors britches,

-18 and finally the sun and blue skies have returned. Those black bears are happily sleeping the winter away. They get pretty big some around 400 pounds or better or about 200 kilos. Big enough that I feel like an appetizer item on the menu. They probably look at me like I do for a hamburger at McDonalds.

I would love to see bears in the wild. Not too close though. Thank God they're hibernating.

Not too cold today but very damp out and very dull too. This weather really gets the arthritis going in the neck and elsewhere. Heading towards February now. I'm grateful we're nearly out of this bleak month. I so hate January.

Hot humid days and hot humid nights , we have only been dropping to 21-22c overnight. Todays humidity is forecast for 90% but only 20% chance of rain. Ron.

Still 30c at 9.00 pm . It is getting very difficult to get any sleep. Have an appointment next Tuesday at the cardiac clinic at the new Sunshine coast university hospital. I have been sent straight to the chief cardiac neurologist. He does most of the pacemaker and defib implants and works out how to stop all the premature ectopics and atrial fib by zapping areas of the heart. Can't say Im looking forward to it. ron.

I don't know very much about cardiac problems, but it does sound promising Ron.Far better a little bit of aggro.if you get results.:ghug:
