I was going to look at the eclipse with my welding mask...

"Viewing with Protection -- Experts suggests that one widely available filter for safe solar viewing is welders glass of sufficiently high number. The only ones that are safe for direct viewing of the Sun with your eyes are those of Shade 12 or higher. These are much darker than the filters used for most kinds of welding. If you have an old welder's helmet around the house and are thinking of using it to view the Sun, make sure you know the filter's shade number. If it's less than 12 (and it probably is), don't even think about using it to look at the Sun. Many people find the Sun too bright even in a Shade 12 filter, and some find the Sun too dim in a Shade 14 filter — but Shade 13 filters are uncommon and can be hard to find." (source NASA ink below)

It turns out my welding mask is one shade lighter than recommended so you best check.

Thanks Cmack for the welders mask information! My father was talking about using one of those from his shop. He's on the road now though so that won't be something he's going to be doing.

I'm hoping for here that the cloud cover moves away! It's the typical Florida summer time, with lots of clouds floating around.

The eclipse was nice here. I didn't see much with the cloud cover. It wasn't as hot though with it turning darker. It was a pleasant walking event.

I was thinking of a former HS tennis team mate and friend. He was a good player. No one hit harder on the court than Josh. His true sports passion was with soccer though, which I believe he earned a scholarship with his play. He was also talented academically. His parents helped with that as they were higher ups at the University.

I had lost track of my old HS team mate. It wasn't till I was much surprised to see his name in the local newspaper about playing in a popular Chicago music band set perform at a Lollapalooza concert! I would have never guessed. I would have thought he would be working in a University teaching or something along those lines. Hard to see but Josh is the blonde haired guitarist dressed in white.

Cute video Cmack! When I was younger I was infamous for my long showers. Finger steam art played a roll in that.

I've been thinking of an old Hall and Oats song of late. That is due to my parents receiving a greeting picture a number of weeks ago from my sister's best friend in HS along with her dad and mom. A picture of Kim was sent, now living in Nashville along with her parents. The dad used to work for the FBI and I can laugh about it now, but he would sometimes involve my family in his investigation cases. Without telling us before hand he would have letters mailed to our address, then tell us to not open the letters from such as such as they involved a case he was working on! Nuts, but in the end no one came chasing after us.

I live in the country and I have a lifted 92 GMC pickup truck (It's been parked for a while). I worked hard to have a really cool truck with loud exhaust, mud tires and a good stereo with big subwoofers. Back in the day my truck was the life of the party(out in the woods)...doors wide open all the time. It was like being a DJ... I had so much fun. This is one of the songs we used to play a lot... Corona - Rhythm of the Night -Man did it sound good.

Thanks for the story cmack! Yeah, I guess i'm a nonsensical story telling mood. I'm feeling well and it has me thinking of better times. I was kind of laughing thinking about my sister's best friend in school. I remember attending her wedding. I had been warned in advance that her husband had a big mouth. The warning had been given but I wasn't prepared for what I got. He was sweet and angelic looking, and when I went to introduce myself he warmly greeted me with a smile and a steady stream of profanity. It was just normal talk for him! it came as a great shock to these innocent ears. I guess now the two of them attend NASCAR races in their free time. The FBI father was a bit of an odd ball. he was known for investigating foreign University students. If you were from China, he knew all about you. I guess in his private practice he continues that foreign investigation work.

Been feeling good of late. I might have my freedom, and heard this song yesterday driving down the road.

Thanks Tony! Wasn't being to creative with my pick. I'm ready to see some stars after these 3 days of rain. Believe so far a foot of rain has fallen and it isn't done storming yet.

Thin Lizzy is great. Didn't realize they were an Irish group.

The sky is clearing here , didn’t realize you were in the hurricane path Beach ,
hope the rain eases off soon and ye are all safe .

I'm jealous! I'm ready to see the sun and stars at night. This has been is a ridiculous amount of rain. Thankfully I wasn't in the path of the hurricane that struck Texas. The flooding and rain there looks terrible. Here in Florida there was a lesser mentioned tropical storm that came ashore. If it had been out to sea in the Gulf longer it might have formed into a hurricane. Instead it's been a big rain maker. There is a decent amount of flooding here but nothing terrible, as compared to Texas.

The storm should pass over Florida tonight and back into the ocean, this time the Atlantic. It is expected to strengthen and move up the east coast. It might still become a hurricane.

and another just because I can ,

the thing I love most about country music as opposed to "pop" is that nearly all country acts can perform live and sound just as good .

I already beat you coortez in posting Girls and Boys! That was posted a few months earlier! No penalty points for missing it though. :p

What a boring day! Side effect of being healthier. Kind of humorous, typically I'm to worn down and tired to be bored. Been feeling better of late, and as a result am suddenly getting bored. That should resolve soon if I can continue to improve but till then ....

Thanks Tony!

It's crazy how much one day can make a difference. Today has been far from boring, rather frightening instead. The hurricane predicted to head up the east coast has changed directions. Now it is being predicted to go up the west coast of Florida, and likely come ashore where I live! To add to the fright the storm grew in strength. I've been hurricane preparing all morning. As strong as the storm is and predicted to be at landfall I'm likely leaving town.

Not much silver lining in this, but I missed my summer drive up north due to the stomach. It was to painful to sit for long. Now I'm doing much better and can sit without to much discomfort. It's a good thing as it is a 19 hour drive up north.

Much appreciated guys. I've been on my feet all day, preparing, packing for the trip out of town. There is never a good time for a hurricane to visit, but with my experiencing an upswing in stomach health it couldn't come at a better time.

Kind of frightening with the potential strength of this hurricane. It is not possible to say where it will go or how strong it will be, but forecasts say a 4 or 5 hurricane into this area. If that happens people will be talking about this storm 50 years from now. They almost never talk about the 3 and lesser grade cyclones. I keep telling myself it is only the big ones that make history and leaving early makes sense.

Great The Cure song picks. My sister used to enjoying listening to them I recall. She had a life sized poster of the lead singer on the wall.

I believed she enjoyed a cure song about a head on the wall most.

Thanks crack. I'm out of the hurricane danger zone and in the city of Atlanta for tonight My two main worries now are keeping healthy on the remainder of the trip and hoping our homes are not flooded by the cyclone. So far I'm doing great to the gut. Fingers crossed tomorrow is just as good.

Just to ramble a bit in 2004 hurricane Charlie a cat 4 cyclone passed 10to 20 miles from my home. Not much damage was done thankfully. The area was closed down for 10 days though. If Irma remains a cat 5 and comes into the area I'm guessing most homes will be flooded or blown away. I think of a cat 5 as similar to a giant tornado.

goid to hear you are safe and out of the immediate danger zone
Hopefully your home will be ok

Made it to my destination. Great trip, ran into a few interesting people at gas stations. Florida license plate and a car full of items gets attention right now.

Made me chuckle a bit, received an invite to ride out the hurricane back in Florida with a few Asian Americans. In the past I've noticed that they love karaoke. Had me thinking if I remained in Florida, and the power was down, I could be singing this song all week long :ytongue:

I can't help but think of Tom Cruises underwear dance around the house in Ricky Business, when I hear Bob Seger's song Old Time Rock n Roll! For better or worse.

Speaking of The Mamas & The Papas...Mama Cass has been bouncing around in my head because of this ad.
