What is YOUR weather like today??

-17C this morning under clear skies, we are still in a winter holding pattern. I walked up the lakes and over to the massive clearcuts to the north where tall forests once stood and now nothing for as far as ones eyes can see. Its growing back albeit very slowly. The sun's angle is getting pretty high, winter is not going to last much longer. I figure another 10 days to two weeks.

7c and dismal again so off on the bikes soon.D., it's a good time to introduce new fish but watch for the frosty nights that might show up.Your frog is away on the hunt for "company".It's probably still in the garden somewhere.Hopefully if it's a lady she'll go back to the pond to spawn. No bluetits in our nestbox yet.Maybe it's too late and they've already sorted their accommodation. They're a joy to watch on the feeders but we have to leave the electronic cat scarer on all day for the Ginger Ninja across the back.

Can you tell me the brand & model of that cat device, Carol? Does it work well? We really need a couple here. Fresh 2'' of snow today??????? What the...???

Chris,my hubby Les says ours is on the blink and was from a cheap store (£25) so not a "brand".You will get one on-line though. What does work is a mixture of white pepper and cheap strong curry powder, mixed and sprinkled where it's needed. But it has to be repeated after rain etc.

7c and rising,and sunshine too.We are truly blessed,for now !!!

Wet, windy and cold today. Utterly miserable. Haven't spotted my newt for a couple of days. Didn't see any hedgehogs last night either, i missed them by minutes i think.

Got to see 'fatso' the hedgie in the front garden last night. I don't think he likes me much he trotted right off. Obviously hated the embarrassing weighing scales.

Rain on and off again, not too cold. Tulips coming up and leaves on bushes and trees becoming more visible. I love it when the year hits this point.

It's still raining and temp is only half what it was yesterday. It's a good job I haven't put the winter clothes away yet.....I like that you're like us and inadvertently name the wildlife. Our gulls are him and her,the adults, and she sits on the "totem pole" (telephone pole) when she wants a feed.Last years youngster is Squeeky and the year befores, who was Shedwards nest mate, she's called Mucky Beak.We also have a tropical catfish that my hubby calls Twisty Face (miserable) but I don't know how he can tell.
.

The financial advisor called off the semi annual meeting for today, had I known that I would have gone to the cabin yesterday, with the gorgeous late winter early spring conditions. The days are numbered now, and will try again later. I hate it when these things happen at the last minute, but they do.
Spooky, Fatso must have had a good winter with good room service; many critters around here are thin as rails when they emerge from their winter sleep.

Showers again overnight. Temps are way above the april average. Victoria has been up to 37c in places this week. We have been around 30c daytime and 20 c at night I'm not sure that we will get a winter this year. Ex cyclone Iris is once more embedded in the monsoon trough and there is a 50% chance it will reform into a cyclone by Friday. Coral sea cyclones are like living things. They are calling Iris the zombie cyclone because it keeps coming back to life. Ron.

Cool and dismally grey.Although I'm not a lover of warm weather a wee bit of sunshine lifts the spirit. We're all saying "It can't be long now, surely". :(

Diane Thurs.at 8pm Ch.5.....Steve Backshalls Hedgehog Rescue.....It's a repeat though. (So what's new ? certainly not 80% of TV progs.)

Windy with temps near the freezing mark. The birds and critters are quite busy, a sure sign that spring is coming on. Having said that the snow pack and ice on the lakes are solid. Pretty typical weather, albeit on the dry side.

It is I.......from the other side of the world ! Gonna be °96 today.:sun::sun:

I love your stories about all the cute "critters." All I spotted today was a neighbor throwing her cigarette butt on the ground..... ( sigh ) life in the big city.

But a great view of blue skies, green grass and palm trees out my apartment window. :panda:

Have a great week.

God it was grim again today. So misty with no clear sky or sun to be seen. Freezing too. Yesterday i accidentally espied 'fatso' in the front garden. Think he heard the front door going and my cats rushing out. He bolted up the grass bank, out the gate and towards the road. He was under my campervan and i had to go the road side to make sure he wasn't run over. I clapped my hands and back he went on the pavement only to try and cross a tad further along. God, my joints haven't seen such action in years, nor my lungs. I gave chase and picked the prickly hog up and put him back in my garden. He went into my neighbours and didn't come back to finish his food. I think he doesn't like being seen to be eating as i call him 'fatso'. Well, he is.

I will happily watch a repeat of the hedgie TV prog as i don't mind that, but the repeats on everything else is just silly. Warm weather next week apparently.

Ginger Ninja :)

Getting up to 33c on Sunday. A month ago I washed all of my sweaters and coats. I am beginning to wonder if I will need them this year. Bushfires burning in South Australia and Victoria.Ron.

Rom,I'll swop my summer gear for your sweaters hahaha.

It's a cold, damp 5c today, but not raining. We've been promised a rise in temps this weekend but the south will be warmer than here in the north east....allegedly.

Its beginning to get soggy, soon I'll trade the skis, and the snowmobile for the axe and the chainsaw. I will probably have to order a new track for the snowmobile and do the work over the summer and have it ready for next season.

Black sky here, sure it will downpour soon. Hey is there anything around the Manchester airport? I have an 8 hour layover there on May 28th.

Love your dinosaur :dusty:

Up and down like a yo yo, yesterday it went up to +8 and today its -10, and very dry. Lisa has been helping me out with the Avatar. Trying a few layouts. The Dino was funny, but not quite me. Having said that, people who know me would agree that I can be like one at times in the mornings. However, my dental work at this point is of no comparison.

In yesterdays paper the weather bureau said that we could expect a warm wet winter. No kidding fellas . The forecast temp tomorrow is 33c and when I stuck my head out the door this morning , it got wet. Funny how I reached the same conclusion without numerous degrees and billions of dollars worth of satellites and computers. Ron.

Good start at 11c and sunshine.Dense cloud cover now though.Doesn't look like the washing's going to dry outside on the line. But I live in hope.....

Sunny out, not exactly cloud free blue skies, but it's warmer. I've noticed a few bits of green on my fushias, clematis, i've tulips up and i'm feeling better.

Update on my pond life, if you get my meaning. I have a smaller frog in the pond and a baby newt. I've called him Tiny as he is minute (my newt). The fish i bought have settled and not floating on the surface so things are looking up.

10c and sunny, but it looks as though it's going to cloud over like yesterday. The rest of the week looks promising with temps.in double figures. We're going for a peddle up river to the Marina. It's only about 3mls but by the time we peddle around it and then up to the park and around that, then home, it's a good couple of hours. The route is on the Coast to Coast cycle route, which is across country from Carlisle to Tynemouth.I think it's only about 90-100 mls and very popular with "serious"cyclists.I like it because there's a lot of off road paths.Suits my age and my nerves.

I was not so housebound after all, the cold weather firmed up the trails so I took a run to the lake yesterday and then went for a long walk through the lakes and up to the cuts. There is a winter storm issued and we could get a late season dump.

I hope you are able to get around, Bufford. Just above zero here, the sunlight has a lot of warmth to it though. I'll be outdoors for a few hours today working on the yard, if it doesn't rain too much. It says on our weather report that we are getting rain... we shall see.

I need your energy, Chris. Not consistently spring weather yet.

Over 30c today same for tomorrow. World pro surfing event at Margret river In Wa had to be postponed today after two surfers at a beach 15k to the north were attacked by a great white. One received lacerations to his leg the other had a full on fight with the shark before breaking free and body surfing a wave to the beach. His mates used his leg rope to stop the bleeding. A chopper flew him to hospital. He received serious injuries but is in a stable condition. He will require a fair bit of surgery. They restarted the surfing comp a couple of hours later. . Leave me out. Ron.

No way I would get into the water after an attack like that, its bad enough being seen as a menu item by bear on dry land let alone in the water. their bite is one heck of a force when I see pictures of surfboards with bites taken out of them like they were cookies.
April is up to its usual tricks, a late winter storm blessed us with 10 cms of dry snow, and at -10 its cold enough to ski. So, I will take advantage of it by going crosscountry skiing later. The neighbor and his wife along with the bunch spent the weekend snowmobiling, winter hangs on just a little longer.

My grandkids are in Oz.The two boys are in their mid teens and are typical surfer dudes.I try not to worry, they just think I'm silly. My son and them spend time fishing from a boat on the Margaret River......Talking of bears Buff.We watched the film The Revenant for the second time the other night.Really enjoyed it,especially my heart throb Tom Hardy.

Ron,I hope you new med regime is working out.

Diane. My hubby brought the first Ladybird of the summer (ladybug) indoors earlier to show me,then put it back on the new foliage on the apple tree.:soledance:

Temp.got up to +14c earlier.Did a 10ml cycle but am paying for it now.:D

Gosh, i love the world weather. Don't we learn what each other lives with? Wow, Buff, i'm wondering about this "walking through the lakes" business. Carol probably dreads cycling through puddles, Ron50 is probably worried his swimming skills aren't good enough each time he has to bail his flat out, and i worry when i perch on the rockery surrounding my pond! Shame you can't walk on water, Buff. We wouldn't have to worry about you needing your Moses skills with the lakes.

I still have my thermal vest on, with long sleeved tee shirt and a proper Scottish Woolover cable jumper on, not to mention a coat if i go out, Carol.

Nice sunny weather, and not too cold, but the wind just takes the edge of a proper Spring day today. Nature has it's head up now and there's no looking back to Winter weather... I hope.

30c today. Bush fire brigades have had a full on week trying to stop a bushfire destroying the army barracks at Holdsworthy near Sydney. They say that they have never seen the bushfire season last so long. It has gotten to the point that it is a year long concern not just summer. One of the problems is that they have an official fire season and the water bombers are not available outside that time. Most of them are leased. Ron.

13c cloudy and blustery. The car thermometer registered 17c while we were at the shops. It won't be long before I start whinging about the heat.I might feel a tad guilty given what poor Ron has to endure, but I will whinge nonetheless.

Yesterday might as well have been February, snow coming down we got another 20 cms. As Spooky said, I was sort of walking on the water as this snow was perfect under the skis with blue wax for a kicker. Snowed in today and I am once again running low on supplies, but want to avoid the roads until they are cleared.

I think this storm was the one where the fat lady sings for the last of winter. My woodpile also tells me winter is about done with less than a cord standing.
I'm not ready for spring by any measure, I could ski all year round.. But at some point 8 full bush cords of wood will have to be cut and piled. Then there is fire season and all the biting flies and everything else that chews.

They abandoned the Margret river pro surfing event today after several of the international surfers admitted to not being keen to be shark food. Wise move organisers . It was mayhem on the Gold coast on Sunday when they ran the marathon for the commonwealth games. It was well over 33c and the competitors were dropping like flies , One of the irish competitors was in the lead and collapsed with just two kliks to go. He was taken to hospital and gradually recovered during the day. He is ok now . A cold front came thru overnight and now it is raining again. Ron....... Take my seven day event monitor back tomorrow. That is the last of the heart tests. Get my results next month.

I dug out yesterday, and by the looks of the forecast the seasons are going to flip in the coming days. In my case it will go directly from winter season into work season, there's the 8 cords of wood to cut and pile, the insulation replacement at the cabin, and now add in a new job, replace both the track and a motor mount for the snowmobile.
Retirement can still mean working fulltime, in this case for myself with no paycheck. In any case its good to keep busy, and not live and rot in the senior's apartments.

I am glad you are staying independent, Bufford. We are getting rushed through our spring clean up here because of the delay in thawing. I'll be pruning more trees, I might get the maple trees done today, (and they are the worst ones). 6c and scattered cloud cover today.

Rain forecast every day for the next week. Even with the cool change there is no sign of summer leaving . The overnight temps are still around 21c they should be around 12c. Take care Buff and Cmack Pace yourselves and don't over do things. That's the beauty and the curse of chores , they will still be there tomorrow. Ron.

Blue sky and sunshine....19c+ so far.It was very warm during the night at 10c which is the average daily temp.for this time of year.Off to the garden centre before it gets crowded at the weekend.

I drove thru some of the heaviest rain I've seen for years when I was going down to the hospital this morning. I have a 4wd Isuzu diesel ute. I came over a hump in the road and ran into a 3inch sheet of water right across the road . The car just aquaplaned. Thank goodness it is a manual and I could drop it down thru the gears. I think if I had been stupid enough to hit the brakes I'd still be upside down in a paddock. Scared the living daylights out of me. I think I'm over rain for a while. Ron.

Glad you are ok

!!!! Whinge Alert !!!!....It got up to 27c at the garden centre, now,at home it's 23c.I've had to take my socks off !...Two weeks ago we were having snow. Why can't the temps just go up or down gradually so we can acclimatise ?

Ron,glad you came through that little adventure OK.You do like to live dangerously eh ?

It gets the adrenalin going and make you feel alive at least.

+8C and rising quick. The next several days will be warm and dry. I am going to dig out the wood pile and prep it for cutting. My main focus now will be to cut and spit as much wood as reasonably possible until the black flies emerge in June.

We had a cracker of a storm early this afternoon , lots of thunder and lightning. We lost power for a while and had some torrential rain. Fortunately I was not driving this time. Ron.

Looks like everyones temps are rising....it says 17c on my lap top but I'm sure it's much warmer than that.Yesterday was the warmest April day in London (28c) for 69yrs.
We've been for a short cycle,6mls and a stop for coffee. All the pale winter bodies are emerging alas. They'll be lobster pink by Sunday...idiots.

+10 and going up. Was outside standing on top of the green pile shoveling the snow off in a T shirt yesterday, and still have to dig out the work area before I can begin cutting. The snow is almost a meter deep at the base of the pile.
I am going to start another batch of wine before the ground water is stirred up by the spring runoff.

With the meltdown going on I got concerned about surface water mixing into my well. I decided to bottle the last batch and start the new batch of red wine. I use those concentrate kits and get good results. I like having a glass with supper, and bottles of homemade wine make good inexpensive gifts.

Well, i enjoyed our summer, lol. Was lovely and off came the thermal vest too. I mean i wasn't going around in just a bra, but peeling the layers off and wore jeans and a long sleeve tee shirt.

Now we have rain and apparently thunder storms, i hope.

I could send you one of my brollys if you like Ron50.

17c clear sunny sky but with a cool breeze off the sea.Went out in a short sleeved T. and was wishing I'd put a jacket on.Another thing I hate about summer is sun protection lotion, but I always use it.Bloody stuff gets on everything.

Bit of news Diane....Snow forecast next week and a BIG drop in temps. But mostly in the north.Keep your thermals handy.

Plenty of rain and no cold weather. Still sleeping with the fans on me every night. Ron.

Started well.Cooler than the last few days but sunny.Just as we were getting the bikes ready the heavens opened. So did plan B.Supermarket shop.On a Sunday !!! are you mad woman ?

Sharpened a set of kitchen knives for the neighbor and some from my kitchen and noticed how messy the shop has become. Been doing many little jobs and then drop the tools. It will take a rainy day to clean up and do the spring cleaning after a winter of outdoor activity.
I'm going to cut wood this afternoon. The ski trail looks like a wedding cake left out in the rain, I don't like this housebound feeling, no different than a grounded pilot. Spring is not my thing.

I spent the weekend housecleaning. It is not good for me as I have a bad reaction to most of the spray cleaners. I use vinegar and clove oil on the mould , it works but stinks. Still no sign of winter. Ron.

Hot and humid still. Still 27c tomorrow with 17c overnight. Having some more trouble with vertigo. Had a really bad fall tonight . Thank goodness it was on carpet. I thought my knee was going thru the floor. I jarred my back pretty bad and then the sweats started. I was not feeling too good for a while. I took some stemitil. That helped. Sometimes I wonder how safe we oldtimers are living on our own. I don't feel ready to lose my independance yet but it also means that I don't feel I can afford to tell my doc about all of my accidents. Ron.

It is worrying Ron....I would mention it to your doc.I believv we should ,when we get to a certain age.And off course they can't force you to leave your home.I tell my old man to always tell me when and where he feels unwell. If I need to get an ambulance I need to know if he's been complaining about anything.
13c dry and very blustery here.It was a real struggle against the wind while on the bikes. But I feel I should push myself while I still can......

Ron I would write all of your symptoms down as well as what you ate and activities being done when the spells happen. Share them with your doctor, as we age we are getting fragile. The doctor can only make suggestions and cannot force us to do anything we don't want.
Sometimes my doctor thinks I am being too picky about my issues, but I tell her that it should be noted in case my condition changes further for the worse.

Yesterday I cut firewood for two hours, and given how it went, I feel encouraged that I can live here for another year. I just take things from day to day, and year to year. LIke a light bulb I don't know when I will pop, but as long as the lights are on, I'll just keep going.

Take care of yourself

Tackled a tad of the garden yesterday and now i'm suffering from fatigued muscles. Feels a bit like MS, they don't want to work and i've got a stiff neck. Luckily my neighbour finished it off for me today. I appreciate his help.

Last night i had the joy of seeing one of the hoglets from a couple of years ago. So did a male hedgie. He was circling her for ages and she just huffed and hissed at him. Couldn't care less i had a torch in their direction. So now i've witnessed the making of hoglets/urchins. Will take a few months before they are in the garden with mum. Went out to see them after they had finished and there they both were flaked out asleep together on the garden. They also trashed a few of my last daffs, lol. I took photos of them tee hee.

Am out tomorrow health permitting so it will rain. It's really windy with dark clouds at the moment.

If you don't know by now, it's a boy. Congrats the royals. he's home already.

Loved you're hedgie update D.,and make sure to take it easy today after your gardening.
Hubby saw a swallow or a swift yesterday,so they're on their way up from Africa.Mrs Gull is on the nest.I think it takes nine days for the eggs to hatch. They're costing a small fortune to feed, but it's nice that they know they'll be looked after here.We got some fresh fish from the Quay for them while out cycling. They also have 10 packs of sea food sticks and a bag of pond pellets weekly,as well as kitchen scraps. We saw a notice in the park that herring gulls are now on the "red" list of endangered birds,so the whinging neighbours can bugger off.......10c and dry,but clouding over.No more warm weather until May they say.

I rehalfted the splitting axe with a new wooden handle and then put in an hour and a half on the wood pile. Slow steady progress. I may switch gears today and take a day out of housework and go ice fishing later if the neighbor is up to it.

It’s finally sunny here yea! We thought we were silly with four different feeders so you made me feel better that I don’t bike for fish. Even though we have amazing salmon here that the crows would love :)

Took a time out and did a little ice fishing, got one small 3 lb (1.5 kilo) pike. Too small and let the feisty young fish go, these little guys put up a good fight. Nice day today, going to use it as the next couple days will be cold with wet snow.

Cannot believe it's going to be 82 tomorrow and is sunny today....then of course normal Washington weather of rain. :)

Nearly the end of April and 28c for today with 17c over night. They are predicting another bad flu season this year. Over 65 are getting the new quad strain flu shots free. I hope to have mine next week. At least we have had a couple of rain free days. Ron.
