A very cool and breezy 7c...it's the "breezy" that's to blame for the "cool" or as my old man has just informed me "It's bloody freezing" (stop laughing Buff & Chris)

I could really do with a few days of bloody freezing. It seems that we still have four seasons,,,,,spring summer , summer summer, autumn summer and winter summer. I have actually seen people buying new thermometers because they think theirs is broken.Ron.

Haha Ron.Our son and our two grandsons will be here in a few weeks. The lads haven't been here for 10yrs and we're worried our temps will be a shock to them. We're expecting it to warm up next month but our warm will be a lot different to theirs / yours.

Speaking of the cold, for me this is the coldest most miserable time of the year. Just over a week ago we had a snowstorm it was -10C and I was skiing, the home fires still burning steady. A week later the damp cold along with the damp cold spring winds are blowing through to the bones. The snow pack is melting and everything is soggy.
Its hard to heat the house at this time of year because a small fire will get the house too hot, so I make small short fires and have to poke at it more often. Last evening I put the fire on, but this morning the house is cool, but I want to hold off on making the fire until later. Its a balancing act. As I say this there is wet snow coming down. I will be glad once summer sets in.
I would like to jump on the plane and head to the Caribbean for a month or two at a resort on the beach like they tease us with in those pamphlets.

Do it, go for it life is short. My sister and I are thinking of renting a house for a month in Hawaii or somewhere to snowbird. With splitting cost it's cheaper and longer than in a hotel.

No rain today. Went on a small trip with friends to Bourton-on-the-water. Was lovely without too many tourists. It's worth google imaging that place. It's in the Cotswolds and lovely. Now i'm home and knackered. I didn't even split wood or anything active, just pootled about for a couple of hours, nice tea shops and friendly atmosphere.

Had fatso arguing with another hedgehog over the food out in the front garden last night. So i put another bowl of hedgehog food out and they looked at me and trotted in different directions. They can go at 5 mph if necessary, which i can assure you is a lot faster than me.

Bah ! Second hottest day of the year and the air conditioning quit working in my Building # 4 ( apartment complex building. ) 😠

Hey, I bought a new phone, a new emoji will appear here each day......I am sure of it. I will out-do fuzzy butterfly with my emoji super-powers 😄

10c but there's a really cold breeze coming off the sea....Talking of phones, while out cycling earlier my hubby's phone rang.It was a lady saying she'd just found a phone (mine). An hour earlier I hit a pot-hole on a secluded path and it must have jumped out of my pocket.I didn't know that obviously.Luckily she was walking her dog and we were heading towards each other.I told her that I hope someone does her a kindness soon

Damp cold 2C, expecting yet another flurry. Lynda, I hope the airconditioning gets repaired, I can take a cold house for awhile, but not the heat waves. Speaking of cold, I ran the oil furnace for a bit, but will put on the wood fire a bit later.

Another Sunny Day in The Mile High Denver. We had snow a few days ago and 70's today.

I am a little upset, my volleyball crew is having our annual weather permitting impromptu pickup games at Washington Park on Sunday. I am too weak to play. This is the first time I missed our impromptu Spring fun. I crashed big time and was diagnosed last fall right after our end of the summer party in September.

Volleyball in the park is my mental therapy, as nothing else matters, but the good people I play with from all walks of life. And of course friendly competition is always fun. We usually have 2 to 3 nets based on ability. And as the darkness approaches the remainder hard core people play until we can't see the ball. Hopefully I will be in remission before the end of the summer or sooner and get some play time in.

I hope so too! I like volleyball because I'm actually good at it. ;)

I was lucky enough to meet one of the players at a picnic and he hooked me up with a diverse group of people, with some women who are former college players and the best setters I have ever played with. The age range is 20's to a great old school technically skilled 60 year old. All abilities are welcome and we coach up new players and help each other improve.

I used to play 2 on 2, but not as much any more. The social aspect is much more fun with more players. Lots of good humor and the beautiful summer afternoons in a great park. We have fewer daylight minutes than you do in Canada. But it is still amazing.

Last summer I kept up with a 3 college kids waiting for their 4th. Pretty good players and non-stop playing. Oh the energy of 20 year old guys. After the first three games their buddy showed up and I was happy to step off as I didn't want them to see I was getting a little tired. They asked how old I am and when I replied, 50, one of them said "Dude, you're older than my dad, that is so cool."

I played some 2 on 2 other times with a few of the senior guys and we always took it pretty easy between games. Mostly play 4 on 4 and 6 on 6 the last few games as most people leave and it's only us die-hards.

It took me awhile to get into it again 4 years ago. I played an awful lot more in the 90's before I moved to the East Coast for 15 years. We were the only net in the park back then. Now there are over 20 nets set up on Wednesday when we play and some weekend days, it gets closer to 100, full capacity. It's an awesome place, you can walk around and join other games if they have room.

Thank you for the encouraging response. I am a long way from being able to play at the level I did last year. Right now in a flare, waiting for Humira approval. As soon as I can, I will be back on my bicycle getting in shape.

Michael

Thank you Lynda,
Good luck on Humira. I met quite a few people at a local Crohn's Foundation event that are having great luck with Humira.

I was researching how long approval takes from my insurance and low and behold, you no longer need prior approval. That is probably why a response is taking so long. I copied the text and web page that I will share with my Doc's office and possibly I may be starting on Monday too.

My avatar was on a birthday card my daughter sent.

Thank you,
Michael

Good on you Michael, I like your grit. We had a warm day here today, it was 25c and I was working in the yard. I have actually got a slight tan going on, amazing.

cmack,
That sounds great and you are getting your natural vitamin D from the sun too. Nothing makes me happier than a warm summer day. Hopefully when the Humira I am waiting to get kicks in, I will have the strength to get my garden started. I am going to plant Crohn's friendly veggies and herbs, along with one of my favorite delights, non GMO sweet corn which will be a late summer or early fall harvest and I hope to be ready by then to enjoy it.

Thank you for all your posts and likes. The support on this forum has really helped me get through some hard moments.

Michael

My doc had me sign a paper in his office on April 24th.
My Humira paperwork was faxed to Humira.
This Monday a "Nurse Ambassador" from Humira will come to my apartment to talk to me.
We will be starting the whole Humira process then.
My Insurance Company has to Pre-Authorize the Humira. If approved I have to pay 28% of the cost.
Hopefully there is some sort of program to help people, like me, on a fixed income, to be able to afford the Humira.

Oops, this is the weather thread.😮
Darnit !

Yes, go to Humira's web page or search Humira help pay and you will find they have a program that can lower your cost to $5 or $10.

My doc really wanted me on Stelara, but it is $30,000 to $70,000 a year in costs. So my insurance first needs me to fail Humira, which I hope doesn't happen.

Seems almost criminal, if Stelara didn't have a support system like Humira.

I think the regulations require a professional to show you how to inject.

Humira is currently developing a new way of injecting that won't have the initial stinging effect. Most people tolerate it pretty easily, so don't worry or tighten up when you get the injection from a tiny needle.

Good night and again good luck.

Mike

Cold, grey skies and raining. Summer vanished already!

Great you got your phone back, Carol.

thike, sweetcorn??? you can digest that? Wow. But i grew potatoes last year, some ended up the size of peas. So much for my growing efforts.

Stick to the hedgies Di that's what you are good at. Welcome to all our latest visitors. Our temps have dropped a couple of degrees the past couple of days. It is almost the end of Autumn and we have only just dropped from close to 30c down to 26c.
They thought about putting me on humira for seronegative polyarthritis but I was already on cyclosporine twice a day and they figured that was probably more than enough immune suppression. I go see the head of the cardiac clinic on Tuesday and get some results for all of the tests I had this month. I am sick of tests. Ron.

Yesterday started slow and low, but the afternoon was productive under bright blue cobalt skys with sunshine. I drove the snowmobile up onto the deck using the snow pile as the ramp. It will be easier to work on it when I replace the track.
After that I was down to my underwear with my colostomy bag hanging out, loud and proud on the chainsaw. I cut and split far more than I expected leaving me with an elevated spirit. Going to do more this afternoon.
Michael, Welcome! I too enjoyed playing volley ball. I may not be able to reach as high, but I'm sure this old graybeard could still score a point or two. Back in my university days I spent a lot of time at the tennis courts, and then going for a big ice cream cone afterwards. Those were some of the good ol days.

Bufford,
I too was a varsity tennis player in high school. The understanding of net and angles translates well in volleyball. And I am sure your would score a few or more points.

Cheers,
Michael

I can't eat corn right now, but hope to in August and September. If not, we share back and forth with neighbors who are avid growers and good friends.

Peas sized spuds? Wow, better luck with other things.

I'm 1/2 Irish and never tried growing spuds, but maybe I will try sweet potatoes. My garden is in memory of my Irish mother.

Wow, i'm jealous of that heat, Lynda.

Thike, I think the Irish have memories of failed potato crops, so probably they avoid trying to grow them. It's nice you share with your neighbours too.

Has been raining, i've finished drying my washing in the tumble dryer so now it's stopped raining. I have plants to put in and a few potatoes to go in. I shall try again this year lol.

Raining so hard couldn’t see the road on the way to Oregon. My grandson and daughter are coming up for a week yea fun.

They are still a big crop in Ireland. My Grand Parents did immigrate likely due the potato famine, but we never talked about it

When I was kid, I hated potatoes and my mother said she might have brought the wrong kid home from the hospital. Now I do like them.

Weather is great......°75. Oh, yeah, forgot to mention it is almost 1am. °75 is our middle of the night temperature. Full moon tonight, but I did not go outside to look at it.
My Humira Nurse is going to be at my apt at 2pm. Yikes.

We had a full moon last night too Lynda.
I wish I hadn't put the summer quilt on so early ,after that short heatwave a couple of weeks back.It was achilly night.
7c so far today with sun and cloud fighting it out.

Beautiful sunny day here about 14 C even the puppy is looking for shade

I don't know why they have to tell us via the evening news but this april was our hottest on record. As if most of us have not realised that already. Sea temps are still high so they think the warmer weather could last for a few more weeks. It is going to be a very short winter.
Good luck with the humira tomorrow Lynda. I see the cardiologist in the morning and get the results off my echo cardiograph , holter monitor and seven day event monitor. Ron.

He’s heavier than he looks

I've had three GSDs on the bottom of the bed....he doesn't scare me.

Those wre the days when I didn't need the bathroom during the night.I would NEVER have gotten back in bed again.,'cos as soon as I moved they'd spread themselves out.

3 wow you must have been flattened , love german sheps but the kennel club and breeders have ruined the breed ,did you see the shepherd that won crufts a few years ago he could barely walk

When I was kid, I hated potatoes and my mother said she might have brought the wrong kid home from the hospital. Now I do like them.

My mother used to say the same thing, she would would make potatoes every single day for the supper meal. I only eat them occasionally as they give me gas.

Cooler today but it won't last. Back up to high 20c's by Thursday and 30c on the weekend.
Got my results this morning . My doctor said that there was no sign of atrial fib on my holter or event monitor. I said that is great , that means I can stop taking warfarin. Errr no I'd like you to continue taking it. Why there is no atrial fib or flutter? I just want you to continue taking it. Why? Just take it! It is not a drug you take for the fun of it. I asked about ectopics . He said nothing there to worry about over all one in ten is an ectopic. I said THATS acceptable.? No answer. I will not go near him again.Ron.

So really,he's giving with one hand and taking away with the other
But it is good news there's no Atrial Fib. ?
A friend of mine was on warfarin for years and I don't recall her having probs with it.Of course she didn't have any of your health complications.

I totally agree Tony. Our dogs were of good pedigree from German lines, although that was of no importance to us.They all (4) had good strong flat backs and good hips.I hate what they're allowed to do to GSDs and other breeds.Bulldogs need caesarians because they're breeding for broad heads and narrow hips....I could go on but this is the weather page and I don't want to get barred.....cloudy now but warmer than last night.

Same here.A cool 10c and cloudy.Warming up for the May bank holiday at the weekend ,allegedly.Supermarket chillers are full of burgers and sausages for the barbies..........they may well be the unsold leftovers from the Easter Beast from the East.Think I'll stick to chocolate.

Woke to heavy rain this morning. Warming up from tomorrow. Burn offs everywhere at the moment , trying to lower the fuel burden for next summer. Makes breathing difficult. Ron.

I pruned and mowed the lawn, then I cleaned some windows. It was quite nice outside today. I'm happy with 15-25c temperatures this week...so far. Carol, don't eat any green weenies! ;) I used to work at a grocery store and I'm quite sure you are right! :(

11c and warming up nicely.Chris I could do with a "careless housewife" one of my Dad's sayings,to potter about the place. My old fella's very good and will do anything I ask,but he makes such a major task of the smallest job....Not complaining mind you...well just a little bit. As for the green weenies.I never eat meat or dinners anymore.Just snacks

+7 damp cold. I took the ATV out of winter storage, installed the battery and went for a ride yesterday, once the driveway dries up some more I can start moving firewood. I Don't know what the problem is but I cannot post here using firefox browser, V bulletin sends a message that my message is too short when I post. The Microsoft web browser works okay though.

Buff.just lately it feels like I'm having problems with my lap top every day.I'm a definite techno-fobe and I feel like chucking it out of the window sometimes.I stick to e mails, surfing and our forum.I'm not asking for much and it still aggravates me.

Clouding over now 12c but it was warn enough to wear a light jacket to the shops.

A good start to the May Bank holiday weekend (if you enjoy that sort of thing) Lots of sunshine and a warm18c. Had a nice bike ride today,It'll be the last until at least Tuesday.Too much traffic and to many people about makes it undoable for me.Just finished an excellent book and I'm just about to sort through my shelves for another to lose myself in.

That reminds me of when I had problems with the computer going back almost 20 years ago when they were big, heavy and the monitors were those glass TVs. I had one on the second floor of my house when I lost all my work and it appeared to be a virus. I came very close to tossing the whole thing through the window. The only reason I held off was the cost of having a second floor window replaced.

Smart I got hit on my bike in Hawaii once. Crack my noggin good. I don’t like crowds so I’d avoid it. I just got a new Doctor Who on my tablet so I’m ready for travel.

Clouding over with a cold front coming thru. Cold front ???? it's still 26 c. Expecting rain for the next three days. Buff and Mack I know the feelings with computers. I spent ten years in the late sixties working in the Aust department of Defence computing services division. Ten years of rolling shift work. Nothing like having computer problems at two in the morning. Ron.

How ridiculous. Forecast says °101 for Saturday. And that is NOT a misprint 😳. Summertime, time to hibernate. Glad I have all these books to read. 🌻

It's supposed to rain and it feels like it too, it's so darn muggy right now.

I didn't know you were a military man, Ron. I appreciate your contributions towards global and regional security.

You all know I'm not one to whinge and moan..... BUT!!!

It's been far too warm for me today.Had a walk down to the weekend craft market, just over a mile down the road, and nearly collapsed with the heat, backache and sore feet.Put my head under the cold tap when I got home. Hahaha this is the first really warm day this year and it's getting warmer as the holiday weekend progresses. So there will be lots of whinging from me in the future days, weeks and months you'll be glad to hear. It's 23c by the way.

It was windy and too warm to cut wood yesterday, so I spent the afternoon putting away things from the winter including 400 feet of extension cord for the engine block heater.
The forest is dangerously dry, and it is with hope the weather stays on the warm side to promote leaf growth to create shade for the forest floor to hold in moisture. Only once we have green up the fire threat will decrease, until then any rain does little as it takes only one sunny day to dry out last years dead leaves and spruce needles on the forest floor.

Only 68 today, nice day for walk around lake I'm thinking with my daughter and 3 month old grandson. Then we go to the beach, Astoria, for a few days fun.

26c and showers. Still in T shirts. I did not serve in the military mack. At the time we were heavily involved in Vietnam. There was conscription via a ballot . I didn't think that was fair , if we needed it I thought it should have been all in. Defence edp was half service , half civilian. I drove down to Canberra virtually knocked on the door and asked if they needed any workers. That was on a Monday and I started on a Friday. My birthday didn't come up in the ballot so I was more than happy to contribute. I started as a clerical assistant and left ten years later as an acting shift manager. Ron.

Our trees and greenery are looking lovely although the leaves are not fully out.Son and grandsons will be here in 10 days and I'm so happy they'll see green trees and fields. It's a rareity in Perth / Kalgoorlie. When they go camping in the Scottish Highlands there will still be snow on the high peaks but the warmer weather will mean waterfalls galore. That will be new to them too.I have an idea that they'll find the weathera bit chilly but I hope the scenery makes up for it......21c here at 11-30am and climbing.Off out for a peddle.

I've had quite a good few days until yesterday. Beautiful sunshine so popped a few plants in the tubs and borders. I actually got rid of the long sleeved thermal vest and had a tee shirt on. OOOOps, very big mistake. I got a severe case of hives and then, amazingly, a nasty bout of crushing depression. I forgot i'm allergic to vit d. It's exactly the same with fructose. Skin problems and depression. Mind, it only lasts a short while and goes when there's no sun or i don't have fruit. Wish there was a cure. I am enjoying the sunlight from indoors now.

On a happier note... I have at least 5 different hedgehogs (cos i got the diff coloured nailvarnish out) and one cheeky one came in the back door as i leave it open for my cats. He found the opened tub of hedgehog food and was noisily scoffing at 4.30 this morning.

I got a nice tan all over from working on the firewood in only my underwear and T shirt. I only cover myself with a leather welding apron when running the saw. I look like I have been on vacation on a tropical beach I wish. So far I have cut 3 bush cords, its slow going, but steady.

22c and clouding over nicely.Having a quiet day in,just pottering about.
Poor you D.,can't cope with the cold but allergic to the sun.Contrary or what ? I'm enjoying your hedgie tales. How are the fish doing?
Buff.I love your descriptive posts re.underwear and glad next winters woodpile is coming along nicely. No flies yet,I assume.

Around midday the skies opened and we have had around 40mm to 9pm. Expecting more tomorrow. It was labour day public Hol today. I went into work for around seven hours and got a few machines out of the way. Still around 70 to do. Ron.

Sunny today, I'm headed out to work in the yard after lunch. I planted some grass seed yesterday, now I need to water it and try and get it sprouted. I enjoy the outdoors, it's just great when it isn't too hot out.

cloudy with fog in the harbour 12C , i think ill have to emigrate , this weather is playing havoc with my arthritis ( even doctor s say weather makes no difference ) its funny any time I visit the Algarve the pain eases .

Hmmm yesterday our high was 24c and our overnight low was 23c. We finished up with some areas getting over 100 mm of rain in just four hours. I thought I would be bailing again but we had only a few showers in the previous two weeks so the hill behind me wasn't full of water. It will be now so I hope the rain goes. Ron.

Gorgeously sunny. Staying out of it though. My arms are much less itchy and swollen now.

I am running out of nail varnish to mark the hedgies. Anyone would think i was painting their toes and hands. I still have a couple to mark... if i can catch them.

Ron50, why not take a break from those machines? I feel for you working so much. I think with all you've been through with your health you deserve to just flake out a bit. Give it some consideration, eh?

All my fish are fine and within a minute of feeding them they are there scoffing at the flakes. I'm loving them.

It's been unbearabley warm today.Had a docs.apt.and sat in the waiting room with sweat running down my face/neck.It has clouded over now with some light rain and my PC says it's only 12c now.All the windows are open and it still feels warm....Di.,do you put names to the colours of the hedgies ? Like Plum or Sparkle or Goldie or Scarlet.......

thanks for sending us some of your sun Carol its been a lovely afternoon with temps of 17C

Sun and cloud today, so not so bad.

Carol, i'm more likely to call them Janet the gannet, fatso, and hefty hedgie, although i do call one 'blue' and one 'nudie' as i've not managed to splodge nail varnish on that one yet, lol. Think we are both a tad allergic to the sun. God i love the sun, but body now hates it.

A day without rain , but plenty of sun 27c today , 28c tomorrow then finally we may get three days of winter with morning temps dropping to single figures , 9c , Oh joy but up to 22c during the days.Ron.

So weird your doctor doesn’t have air conditioning wow. We are Great today only 68, yea.

We got some much needed rain, I managed to put the tarp up on the cut wood prior to the weather. My hot water heater tank went the other day and left me with a wet basement. Lucky I caught the leak early when I heard the pump switches clicking when I wasn't using any water. That tank lasted me for the past 34 years and owes me nothing. Spent 500 dollars for a new one plus fittings, hope to install tomorrow and will need help lifting, as the spot its in is very tight. Always something happening it seems.
