What is YOUR weather like today??

It's amazing how nature recovers.I've noticed how quickly it got back to normal. You could almost hear the sigh of relief coming from the trees.

Ron......I hope you have a great time canoeing. It's got to be a lot less bother for you,but keep your eye open for Salties.I know you don't need telling...

We are getting a 2nd day of very warm weather before the cold front sweeps it into the history books tonight. So far there are no storms in the forecast, but often sharp cold fronts bring in severe storms. I'm going to take it easy and use the warmth as an excuse to having a break from the firewood effort.

Don't forget B., chopping wood warms you twice.First in the chopping and second in the burning.I hope you've got your quota done for the forthcoming cold weather.Far better too much as too little.
Another clammy day, but the rain stayed away while we had a run out on the bikes, so it can do it's worst now.

I start early with the firewood effort first thing in spring as the snow begins to melt. I like to get it done so that it can both dry and give me time to do other things later in the year.

Another reason is health, I remember the year I was in hospital, it was a comforting sight to see a big pile of stacked firewood by the house when I finally got home from the 2 month ordeal and not have to worry about the coming winter.
Winter can be big and wide here, its important to be well prepared when it arrives, the snow lays on the ground for 6 months or more, and furnace oil has become too expensive even with the new high efficiency furnaces.

Yesterday was 40C, this heat wave finally cooled a bit to 27C today. Whew. There is a lot of smoke in the air, drifting from the west and from the States.

No rain in sight here. Parts of SE Qld looking at temps up to 3o c today and tomorrow. My area is expecting 27 today and extremely high fire danger. Ron.

As and when the sun comes out it's beautifully hot. Unfortunately, the dark clouds keep rolling by. Hopefully, Crohn's permitting i'm off out tomorrow. It's going to bucket down on me, so waterproofs and brolly i think.

Stay safe all in fire hazard zones.

Tuff and Buff, what differences in weather and both Ontario. Must be a massive state.

22c and bearable with the breeze.Apparently we can expect this summers heatwave until 2020 (during the summers of course) The showers might miss you tomorrow D., but best be prepared.

Its about 14C which is a far cry from the two beautiful summer days we just had. Whatever warmth in the lakes is fading fast now, so my count for swims is a grand tally of 2 for the year.
Ontario is huge, and would cover much of Europe in terms of land mass and has several climatic zones. Climate ranges from mild temperate to the south to include a few cacti species, to sub arctic further north by coastline of Hudson's bay with intermittent permafrost. We also have two time zones given the province's breadth.
Its big.

Yep people in Europe don't realize how large Canada is. For me, it's a seven hour drive to the nearest big city. Toronto is an 18 hour drive if you drive straight without stopping for the night.
Currently 23C but it's going to get hotter. Only a few showers predicted for the end of the week.

Size and wide open spaces is something Australia shares with Canada. We still have fires burning in SE Qld now an area of Nsw is on fire. People everywhere are asking , if this is happening in winter , what will summer bring. Th expectations have firmed for an El Nino this summer. Just what we need. Ron.

It was a cool day yesterday, its going to warm up a little bit for the next few days, but nothing like the warmth we had earlier in the week. I heard about the news of elnino. I hope not, these will often create dry winter conditions that result in poor snow pack a lack of cold air, and bad fire seasons in the spring.

25C. Woodland Caribou Provincial Park to the west of here is still burning. :( It's a wilderness park, home to woodland caribou which are a subspecies of reindeer. I hope they made it.

I made it out with friends today. It rained for the first 15 mins and was dry thereafter. Sun is out now. Noticed quite a lot of dying trees. Not sure this is Autumn or whether the weather has killed a few.

Ron50. I was thinking you Aussies aren't quite in Spring yet and all that heat and drought. Sad world. Things really are changing. Solar minimum and pole shift i think.

Bushfires are causing problems in all the eastern states now, Qld NSW and Vic. Four firies were injured yesterday , one with spinal injuries. Apparently they were trying to avoid the fire and rolled the truck off the side of a hill. I hope summer is not as bad as I fear it will be. First kayak trip postponed, not quite set up yet. Everything takes longer. Started a new diabetes drug two weeks ago . Morning fasting tests have dropped from th14-17 range to a steady 7.0 morning and 5.7 at bedtime. Blood pressure has dropped into the normal range. Saw my neph on wed . He was very pleased with everything. Ron.

That's good news Ron,I hope it's a good omen.

15c and cloudy.Off for a peddle up the coast soon. When I feel OK I make the effort because i might NOT feel OK tomorrow (or the next day) You all know what it's like alas

Sunny this morning and hope it holds all day. Just resting up after my day out yesterday. Ron50, the diabetes meds sound good for you. Hope you stay clear of the fires and enjoy kayaking.

Sadly one of the choppers water bombing the southern NSW fires went down in trees today killing the pilot. We are getting a strong dry south westerly on sunday which will raise the fire danger even higher. I'm finally going to try to put the yak in the water tomorrow at lake MacDonald in the Noosa hinterland. It is well stocked with native species. Looking forward to it. Ron.

Its gray today, but it is probably due to all the smoke mixing into the clouds. The fires are picking up again in BC. Most of our local fire crews are out west helping out. The water bombers are puny compared to the raging flames, they should be looking to refit more old passenger jets into water bombers like the ones they use in the USA which can put the stopper on the bigger blazes.

Enjoy your day Ron.....I'll get the pan on......:)

I think I overdid things getting ready yesterday . There is little enjoyment in killing myself trying to do strenuous stuff when I'm not well so I've postponed my trip to next Friday. At least then I will have the rest of the weekend to recover. I know what you mean Buff with the carrying capacity of those choppers they may as well be spitting on the fire. The trouble is that the water bombers are leased for the duration of the fire season. If you need them outside of the season you have to take what is available. Ron.

7:30 pm and it's cooled off to 22C. Cloudy and hazy, probably smoke too. Hopefully it will rain soon, it's very dry still.

Just going to bed , checked my blood glucose levels . Down to 4.2. 4 is the start of the hypo range . I had some honey and a glass of milk , I will take another reading before I go to bed. I don't know why I have so much trouble getting meds to do what they are supposed to. Ron.

Went to see the surgeon, and he is so busy now that he has a nurse practitioner doing the job of speaking and interviewing with the patient. I just don't like it when they interrupt me when I am trying to explain my symptoms, it just muddys things up more as it interrupts my train of thoughts.
Looks like I will be scoped first, before going further with the gallbladder issue. It will be some time before the scope, our medical system moves like molasses in the deep freeze.

We must have got the tail end of Storm Ernesto as all we had was heavy rain during the night.21c and cloudy today with rain threatening but not coming to anything.Managed a cycle after a bad day yesterday and a bad start to today.Glad to be home though.

Only 15C at 11 am. They are now saying the earth will enter an abnormally warm period from 2018-2022. More droughts and fires. :(

If it would at least warm things up in these parts during the summer then bring on the warmth. Yesterday they promised 28C but it only made it up to 19C. Summer feels like its winding down, but I feel short changed on the beach and patio weather we should be getting. Seems like since my retirement, summers are getting wetter and cooler, perhaps its the result of changing climate.

But why raise prices with carbon taxes, when current fuel prices are breaking us financially, why not simply bring on green energy at a lower price and give us a break on energy costs? I just don't believe those windfarms cost more than a good old fashioned coal plant given the small infrastructure, zero fuel requirements of wind or solar. Oh well rant off. But I am tired and fed up with being asked to pay more for the basic essentials of life.

Our local shire council invested in a solar farm just outside of town. It seems that it is producing enough power to meet councils needs. Hundreds of fires burning across Qld and NSW ,Vic has been spared by a cold front dumping snow and hail. Ron.

overcast here with fine drizzle. Very humid, and would like to experience a good thunderstorm. Probably won't happen.

Carol, i hope things pick up for you soon. Ron50, i've seen the snow in Australia on youtube. Cmack, hope you're safe.

I can imagine how scarey and stressful it is when there's fire in the area,I feel sick just thinking about it.Stay safe.
17c and cloudy, but despite feeling a bit iffy again, I enjoyed a peddle up the coast.
It's hard to know if I'm doing the right thing ie: should I stay or should I go ? but I always feel better mentally for going.I suppose we all know what's best for us,personally.

17C and it rained all night. It's overcast and on radar there's a storm right over us, but it's not raining currently. We sure needed it, and it will clear the smoke off as well. They say smoke all the way from British Columbia was drifting over here. That's a three day drive to go there, quite far away. Stay safe cmack.

Wet and cool, nothing can burn here. I know that feeling of total helplessness when a fire is aproaching. It happens fast, I remember having a regular day, looking forward to the coming evening only to be interupted by the moving black cloud of smoke with the fire coming at us giving only enough time to grab the cat and a few things. Then wondering if there will be a house to come home to.
Sure wish I could share some of the damp weather to those who need it. Stay safe everyone.

Emergency services said that there were around 100 fires burning throughout queensland yesterday, plus the weather forecaster said that the westerly winds had resulted in an unbelievable 3% humidity. He said at that level it was almost impossible for any condensation to occur let alone rain. Hope you are keeping safe Cmack and hoping you are feeling better Carol and Buff. Ron.

20c and humid.Showers were forecast but there was no way I was going to wear a jacket on the walk into town.I needn't have worried...…..I actually heard people complaining about the "cold" weather.Of course, as I've mentioned before,my inner thermostat needs an overhaul.I break out in a sweat doing the ironing.

While things are well soaked from the rains we are getting the smoke from the fires in BC. The sunset is about 8Pm now, but it was almost night by 7pm with the layers of smoke and cloud blocking the daylight.

Carol, people will find a way to complain about anything, weather is one of the big ones. I can be guilty of this when I find myself lighting the fire in summer instead of running the air conditioner.

12C this morning, and I don't have the heat on. A friend went on a fishing trip, and said the birch are turning yellow. I'm not ready for fall yet, we've had bad weather now for a year in a row. Well there's always Indian summer, hopefully.
A large black bear was roaming around town, it was sedated and moved into the bush. Blueberries must have failed this year, and they come into town looking for food.

Hello, Jason,

Lovely day here although we weren't sure how it would turn out. So, out came the winter woolly without the thermal vest. Just a thin top underneath, thank god i had that on. It had to come off. Nice weather here in the Midlands of UK.

Thank God they were kind to that black bear. Autumn looks to be showing, my plants are also turning of colour. I'm not ready for that yet. Go away Autumn, though my body knows that the light is dimming already. Buff, i know as i always record when the curtains should be closed (it's when the lights in the street come on slowly), it's coming in dark fast now. I can feel it and my cats do too. Though it will be September when they come in from outside and start sleeping all day in peculiar places. I don't even know they are in. I have to hunt them down, Fancy that! Both they and i know the darker days are coming in. Summer is gone, even if it is hot, the days are shorter.

Ron50, sorry for writing what i just did, it means your days are gonna get hotter and lighter. Seems like you didn't experience a Winter at all. Hope all is well and it's a cooler El Nino for you, friend. But Buff and Tuff, Don't be too cold too soon up in the NW Canada, friends.

Yes, autumn would allow for easier yard cleanup. I hope we actually get one here... We're just too far behind in the outdoor sector. Having a yard used to be fun...well maybe all the poorly managed forest that burned this year will prevent these wildfire problems continuing into the next one. One can only hope.

19c.cloudy with a warm breeze...I've just read in the paper about a bear cub rescued from the California fires. He had burnt feet and couldn't stand. They stitched Talipia fish skins to his pads.Apparently it stops infection and allows the burn to heal quickly and naturally.

Cold mornings and warm days , humidity still almost non-existent. A chance of a thunderstorm of an afternoon starting Friday. Forecasters are not overly optimistic. having another shot at fishing Friday, Blood sugars hovering around 4.9. Ron.

I'm glad they were able to relocate that black bear back to the bush where it belongs, all to often these bear encounters go wrong with the bear ending up being hastily shot.

Nasty diarrhea this morning, as it started at day break. Too many trips to the outhouse leaving me exhausted and in brain fog. The mornings are getting darker quickly now, and the sun takes longer to climb over the trees. Losing daylight in the mornings is not to my liking as I like bright mornings. On the other hand the longer nights should help reduce the forest fire threat. In any case we are entering seasonal change.

Take it easy today Buff.don't be tempted to get busy even if you feel better later.
It gets light here at around 6am and it's almost full dark by 9pm.I don't mind dark evenings,it stops me thinking I should be doing something constructive.
Tuff,I love to see and hear geese and swans flying overhead. It really makes my spirits soar.I don't mind if they're coming or going.

Temp.down to a wonderful 14c today.Because of threatening showers I wore a jacket for the first time in months, allbeit a light one.I felt more like my old self.

The geese and other migratory birds are starting to group up for the trip south, some of the birch trees are also showing some yellowing. The sun definitely has that tilt and the shadows are growing. I looked fondly at my ski waxes the other day.
Having said that, yesterday was a rough day, I couldn't eat much. Despite a poor night's sleep last night, my appetite is better today, so I will bake the chicken breasts and make a full meal this evening.
Carol, I enjoy the longer evenings that are growing with earlier sunsets, but I don't like the later sunrises. Its the trade off, nothing comes for free.

28C. It's crazy how the temperature is going up and down.
Scottsma, we get bald eagles that soar over the city, probably after the pigeons. They're beautiful to watch. We also get peregrine falcons. Lots of wildlife here, since we're in the middle of the bush.

Bald eagles are awesome, we have them here too. They are so magnificent to watch when they are fishing, so unbelievably agile. We also have blue herons, osprey, golden eagles, many types of small hawks and owls etc. Out here in the boonies we got lot's of birds. The mountains are full of awesomeness... just a bit too smoky right now. Soon it will clear up if the forecast is even close to reality... they usually get part of it right anyhow. ;)

Just had quite a nice downpour. The fields and garden are really green and have grown loads too. No birds or hedgies to notice. It's been a while. Others in the village have noticed it too. We've no idea what's happened to them. Not even got my raucous Jackdaws. Something is wrong.

Wish we had some nice eagles to view. We get Buzzards and Red Kites but that's all.

We're in for a rainy bank holiday which is no surprise. By the time everyone sets off for the weekend it will be raining and probably all weekend too.

Wow, how lucky are you ? We have to travel up to Scotland to see Golden Eagles and Sea Eagles and Osprey. And Red Deer etc.Of course, relatively speaking it's only a couple of hundred miles,we don't have great distances like the U.S. Canada and Australia.I'd love to see bears, from a distance of course. And wolves....I better stop now, this is the weather thread.

11c and a few raindrops on the windows. But got the washing dried and managed a peddle. No complaints.:thumleft:

Wild life activity can say a lot about the weather. When the birds are active and tweeting along with the critters the weather is usually going to remain fair. I pay attention to when they all go silent, its often an indicator of a storm coming.

This is particularly true on a warm muggy summer day, sudden silence in the woods means prepare and take cover. I witnessed many violent thunderstorms arriving in this manner.

19C and it looks like it's going to rain soon. We have deer, foxes, groundhogs and the occasional bobcat right in town. My resident skunk is back, he dug a tunnel under my shed, probably to hibernate in. I think I'll let him stay, so long as he doesn't spray me.

We finally look like we will get a little rain this weekend. I hope so ,it may help to put some of the hard to reach fires out. Took the kayak out for its maiden voyage yesterday. Got some bass (all released) . I was quite impressed by the boat and its stability. I was less impressed with the state and reliability of the engine (me). I was very tired by the time I got home and blood sugars had dropped to 4.4 . I'll see my gp during the week and see if we can fine tune some of my meds . Till them I have taken to carrying my glucose meter and my glucose jelly beans wherever I go. Ron.

The sun is out again. I'd love to see bears and wolves too. Not to mention moose and flying salmon.

I've seen salmon leaping, trying to get back to the place they hatched. The determination they exhibit is mindblowing. Also, while in Scotland we watched a dolphin pod very close to shore. They were tossing a salmon back and forth between them.We could hear them breathing through their blow holes.
Also been whale watching and snake handling in OZ.....

Quite mild today but very cloudy.Heavy rain, hail high winds for tomorrow.
It's a holiday weekend, the last before Xmas, apart from half term for schools on October.I honestly don't know where this years gone.

I've taken to watching live streams on YouTube, there are plenty of bears and their cubs catching salmon. I've also been watching puffins live too. I would have loved to watch the dolphins playing with that salmon. Must have been a lovely scenario to witness.

Plenty of big black clouds overhead, no rain though. Tomorrow it will be bucketing down all day i think.

Glad you got out in the Kayak, Ron.
I had no idea skunks ate wasps! Are they immune to stings or something?

Quite fall like, it rained yesterday and I put on the fire in the evening. Skunks are good to have around, they will control mice and other rodents and pests. I have not had one around in awhile, but in the past I could tame them and feed them left overs. I'd set the plate down on the deck, and the skunk would clean up.

11c and grey.I almost put the heating on last evening, but fought the urge.I had to hunt out my winter slippers though.
It's a holiday weekend here and the weather forecast is for rain, hail and strong wind.So that would be right. There's a bike race down the coast, about 80ml,arriving here early afternoon. We had planned to go down and give them a cheer but we'll have to see how it goes weather-wise.

I have almost put the heating on too, Carol. It's chilly now. Feels a lot like November. I have physically and mentally noticed the different 'feeling' of Summer changing. The cats are indoors and sleeping on my bed rather than outside. Raining now. I'm probably raking out the thermal vest if i can't warm up. The fingers are going numb too. It's downhill from now i fear. Mind, we're not up in freezing Canada, lol. Good luck men. Enjoy the big freeze.

I've got the heating on D., first time since May.It's lush hahaha.I read in todays paper that we might get an Indian summer lasting until November. That's after todays little set back,of course.I've been thinking about getting my winter woollies out,but if I do that I'll be wearing them until April / May.I'll see what tomorrow brings. Also pending is the Autumn duvet.Again,I'll wait until the next bed linen change and see how it's going.

I've worn my Scottish Wool Woolovers jumpers for a few days now. Winter duvet never came off and i simply cannot justify heating on when fuel prices are just crazy. It's August, it's supposed to be a bit warm. Mind, i've seen some leaves turning.

Anything on Ronroush yet?

It's 15C, hazy, and a thunderstorm in the forecast again. At night, it's been 10-11C. I won't put the heat on yet, but I got my winter comforter on the bed, and some woolly socks on my feet. Funny how I feel warmer if my feet are warm.

I put a fire on a couple days ago, and I maybe be able to hold off today since I will roast a chicken later. Its been very wet now and we could use a good dry spell as I found some of my firewood turning blue from mold. Its been a long, cool damp summer, I will gladly trade it for fall now.
I too wonder where Ronroush is, I hope he is okay. Where is Lynda? I hope all is well on her end.

Winter is pretty much over for us . Temp up to 29 on sat and the forecasters say that we should not expect any more cool weather. Ron.

17C at 9 am. I woke up to thunderstorms, and they will probably continue all day. Gardening is on hold. At least now I have the energy to go out there again.

17c with a coolish strong breeze but went for a peddle. If the winds in your face going, which it was,it'll be at your back coming home.I think I might put a fleece blanket on the bottom of the bed.The papers are insisting we'll be in the mid 20s-30s by the weekend though....RonRush was a regular on our LOWs thread too. When I noticed he wasn't around I was told he was having time out (Mandy,I think) There are a few regulars who have disappeared in the last few months. They're a miss.

I hope they come back, I recall having stepped away from the forum for period of time, it happens. Today is a foggy gray day 17C. If conditions are dry enough I will move wood in the afternoon.

Bad day , felt unwell in the afternoon. Checked my sugars , had dropped to 3.9. Thank goodness for glucose jellybeans. Hot weather this weekend. Ron.

18c and cloudyish but no rain here D., Actually it's been a nice day.
Sorry you're not too good Ron.At least you have the sense to check your levels and try to sort yourself out.

Rain, and lots of it, overnight. Am hoping to put some washing out today. The sun is out now but there is a chance of rain. Thermals still on, heating off.

10C but it will warm up in the afternoon. Still resisting putting the heat on. Gas is expensive, but aren't they all. I'd put in a wood stove, but my house is too small, it would take up too much space.

19c and dry.Much the same as yesterday.Papers are insisting we're to get a heat wave.
I'm just now listening to whale song on the TV.Just wonderful....oh and just in case you all want to know.some shops have the Christmas cards on the shelves.....

If you look closely I'm sure you will find a good spot for a wood stove. In any living space if one re arranges the furniture there will be an open space creating a location. Unless I am institutionalized I would not live anywhere in Canada without a wood stove, one has to have a secondary heat source in this climate.
In my case, wood heat is my primary, oil is for back up. Wood heat is king when we get into those frigid air masses of winter.

20C and sunny. I could handle these temps all year round.
Buff, I bought a very small house to retire in. If I had a space to put in a wood stove, I would. I don't think it would do much good in the basement, which is the only space available.

we sold our house almost 10yrs ago, and moved opposite to a small flat/apartment.It's much cheaper to heat and we usually have the radiators on half, even in winter. Also easier for me to manage / keep clean & tidy. We do have out own entrances and back yard / garden. It was my crohns that was the deciding factor though..
The weather is pretty settled here lately.Today is an almost perfect 19c,and cloudless.

28c and 80 kph north westerly winds. An extremely unpleasant . 29c tomorrow for the first day of spring. Forecasters say spring will be hot and dry....What's different?Ron.

Wood stove in the basement could do two good things. For one, the floors will be much warmer with the warm basement below and help take away drafts and cold rooms.
Secondly, a warm basement offers the opportunity to create more living space for the home.

It comes down to deciding what is right for your needs. Having said that, I wish I had natural gas, its a lot less than furnace oil. I would still burn wood as my primary, but I wouldn't be getting up to load wood at 4 am.

First day of the metreological (sp ?) Autumn. 22c and alright for some.Personally I'm fed up with it all.Sorry D., but I think your part of the country is going to be nice for a few days so you'll not need your thermals just yet.

22C, cloudy and humid. We had thunderstorms and pouring rain during the night. It's supposed to go up to 26C again. I overdid things this week, and need to rest this weekend, so frustrating.
