What is YOUR weather like today??

Thats good to hear Ron, hopefully meaningful changes can be made to improve your standard of living, and sooner than later. I am now parking in the winter parking area. Its definitely winter now with the snow conditions and serious cold weather moving into the region. -5C cloudy, expecting the cold front later.

Its winter, last night it went down to -19C and there is enough snow for skiing and snowmobiling. The forecast ahead is calling for steady winter conditions. Skiing did not go so well yesterday, my heart started acting up and I became light headed after getting into deep snow, I headed back to the house.

Glad you had the sense to go home Buff.......don't laugh but Les got light headed today trying winter boots on,it might have been the price though.Damp and chilly and we're expecting a drop in temps and northerly winds. There's been some snow in the west, maybe a gift from Canada ?......How're you Ron ?

-10C Flurries. I can see why Les got lightheaded trying on boots. I needed new mitts, and that was a price shocker too, the essentials keep going up. Our government has a goldmine going on with the VAT taxes they are collecting as the tide of inflation surges.

Buff don't overdo it mate. Going out is fun but sometimes getting home is the problem. Struggling Carol, I bent over to pick up a branch that had fallen on the footpath yesterday and went A over T and finished up in the gutter. Luckily no wounds but more pain. Ron.

At least you only landed in the gutter and not casualty Ron......It's easy to forget the do's and don'ts of being decrepit and accidents are just that. But did you really need to pick that branch up ??? It's a horrible wet day and 5c and falling. In for the day so not bothered.

-24C Fresh. Ditching is never good Ron, sometimes I can feel it coming on, and just leave things that fall to the floor. They are not going anywhere at that point. I'm not going anywhere today either, perhaps a walk later.

Unfortunately it was in the area that we put our garbage bins for collection so it had to get shifted. 36c yesterday. Very unpleasant. A lot of inland Qld was in the 40+ range. I guess summer finally arrived,Ron.

-22C Sunshine under cobalt blue skies. After a gray day with a few centimeters of fresh snow finally the sun is showing its face. With the sun shining through the windows it will help keep the house warm.

We had a wild storm last night with lightning bolts every couple of seconds. The power went off at 1.30am and has only just come back on at 1.35pm. Not much sleep without cpap. Ron.

2c and wet.A really miserable day.It was -9c in Scotland last night so It's not looking good for us.But it's winter so it's not going to warm up for a few months.I'm just happy we don't do xmas and I have to panic around the shops.

-16C Partly cloudy. In winter its nice to have a break from thunderstorms, especially those ones that spit out bolts that hit like bombs. I stay well away from the stores during the xmas rush and the crowds spreading bugs, and the roads can be even worse.

I went out and did a supply run yesterday and the stores were heaving with people. I went to pick up a package of medical supplies from the post office and waited over 20 minutes as the xmas rush already started. Now I don't have to go out anywhere for awhile.

cold and bright. The heavy frost has melted only where the sun reached. We walked up to the Xmas market at the town square. It's been absent for a while due to the pandemic.I recall saying 3yrs ago that I wasn't going again and wish I'd stuck to it. Crowds of folk, much taller than me,and there was nothing that I felt the urge to buy.Overpriced jams and cheeses and cakes etc. I'm definately not going next year....baaa humbug

-5C Gray. I don't like going to crowded events, its the same thing getting caught up in crowds of people bigger and faster moving that I. In the grocery store I am just getting in their way as they rush about and I am slow moving. I had a good sleep last night, but my body feels like it wants more. The pain backed off letting me sleep. Lots of dreams, some with music, but I have no recollection of them.

I'm starting to find the shopping centre a bit of a pain. Children behaving badly ,adults behaving badly and even my favourite cafe looks like feeding time at the aged care facility(including me) The weather has been very strange from very hot to very cold. The fast growth in areas that were flooded is now leading to grass fires which get very dangerous in a hurry. I have had two more calls from aged care telling me that they want to do a sfety assessment asap. Ron.

-5C Its been a straight forward winter so far with snow, but no huge storms. But forecasters now believe a big one may form later in the week. Difficult bowel movements this morning after getting blocked up again, but at least its working.

Heat waves cross Australia. You don't know whether you will wake up to 23c or 33c. The hottest day we have had so far was 37c mid last week. Fortunately the humidity was not high. On the other hand it is low humidity causing the vegetation to dry out and raise the fire danger. Ron.

Winter is here !!! only minus 2c here and very icy underfoot. But it got to -15c in Scotland last night and snow in the south of England has ground traffic and flights to a halt and schools are closed. Some kids have died when a frozen pond gave way I think four died from cardiac arrest and two plus a rescuer are critical. Also the threatened strikes have started....nurses,ambulance,border patrol, railways, post, etc. NOW is the winter of our discontent

Heatwaves in the north of the country and some snowfalls in the south, they are predicting severe thunderstorms for our area. I hope they are not as bad as those last week. Ron.

Buff,it's embarrasing when everything grinds to a halt for a flake of snow. They've even been known to stop trains if there's a leaf on the rails.Great Britain is fast becoming the laughting stock to the rest of the world'
Ron.I've just read about the shoot out and lives lost in remote Q/land.Two police officers included in the death toll.
Minus 2c today and it was minus 11c during the night.Much the same for the rest of the week, although it might rise to a balmy 3c at the weekend

-3C They are calling for a big storm to move in with big snows followed by cold weather in the next couple days. Its definitely stirring outside with the southeaserlies blowing. Ron, snow in december must be rather unusual for summer time.

Yes Carol, the police were asked by the NSW police to check out a missing person report at a town on the western darling Downs. Wen they arrived they were ambushed by three heavily armed people . A young policeman and a young police woman were killed instantly . Another officer was seriously wounded in the leg and a farmer from the next property came over to see if he could help was shot and killed. A third police woman was able to escape and hid in the bushes. Police backup arrived and the three shooters, two men and a women were subsequently killed in a wild shoot out. Yes Buff , this morning there was snow falling in Tasmania, the suthern highlands in Victoria and on the NSW snowfields.Weird. Ron.

-2c and falling .Last night it was -12c and it was a huge decision to go to the bathroom during the night, but needs must.
We had a covering of snow fall on yesterday's left-over ice which made it dodgy walking to the shops but there was a cloudless blue sky and lots of low sunshine. It's really sad news of the police officers and like the 3 children who died
falling through an iced lake, xmas will never be the same for their families. We also had refugees drown in the Channel today.trying to reach the UK.Although why is hard to understand. How bad must their lives be to attempt it ? Thing is they are paying thousands of pounds to get here.I can't imagine how bad it is in those crap rubber dinghies at this time of year,in a busy shipping lane

-3C Windy with a passing flurry. They are calling for heavy snows, but from the looks of it so far the storm is poorly organized. Often high winds prior to a snowstorm indicate the system is tearing itself appart. Its the silence preceeding a snowstorm which indicates a potent system moving in. I found out where the bad smell in the kitchen was coming from; a bag of rotten potatos. There is a lot of desperation and hurt going on everywhere these days. Hardly a day goes by without reports of violence, many live silently in misery, without heat, unable to put food on the table while the healthcare system is so overloaded its on the verge of breaking down.

Victoria set a record for the coldest summer day on record. They are evacuating towns in South Australia as the floods on the Murray river finally cross the border. Ron.

-2C It snowed on and off and it is snowing right now. 20 cms so far, that would be about 8 inches. I shoveled yesterday afternoon, making it easier than to just let it all pile up making for a bigger job.

4c but bright and sunny which is softening the icy snow underfoot making it safer to walk.
There's differing reports for the next few days but we'll have to take what comes.
Are you OK Ron ?

-5 with sunshine. Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon digging out from another 15 cms of snow. The system has moved on and much colder air will be moving into the region. Today I will catch up on the smaller shoveling jobs, around the wood pile, the outhouse and the shed entrances.

Have not been well Carol. With the spring pollen and the up and down temps i have been suffering from asthma. I can keep it fairly well in check with ventolin puffers but that's a steroid and it badly effects my type two. I have spent a few days with my blood sugars at 11.00 at bedtime. It is a case of dammed if I do, dammed if I don't. Ron.

I'm really sorry to hear that Ron.seems like you're between a rock and a hard place.Have you heard how your care application is going,or has xmas slowed things down, like here. I still haven't heard anything since my colonoscopy. They said 3wks and it's been at least five, but what with strikes etc every thing's gone to hell in a handcart. But no news is good news,I'm told.
Buff, all that shovelling will keep you fit or at least warm you up.
0c and grey. Too much traffic on the roads today. We only went for diesel and most folk had the same idea, before the rush.
Not that we're going any where mind you.....

That is not good Buff ,I hope you get them soon. I was promised mine before Christmas but that is not going to happen. Carol my Personal alarm ,shor non slip mat and nonslip bathroom mats have been ok'd ,just waiting for them to arrive. ron.

I hope that's not IT Ron !!! The alarm's handy but you could have got your own bath mat.....It's a grey dreary day here BUT temp up to 13c and snow and ice have gone....for now.Have been for the xmas grocery shop so what I've forgotten we'll do without.Might need fresh bread but will NOT be queueing for it.

-17C Cloudy. Now that the side roads have been plowed I went in for groceries and decided to buy enough so that I do not have to go to the stores until before New years, the stores were packed. A long the way there was one pick up truck in the ditch, it appeared to be a result of speed, and a guy on the lake stuck in deep slush with his snowmoble. Anyone with common sense would know not to go out on the ice after a big snow like we had.

Buff, common sense is a rare commodity now, like good manners and kindness and respect.....It's all me me me now.
I think I've mentioned that xmas lunch for Les will be prawn omelette and gammon and pineapple rings for me.Whether or not I finish mine is debatable, food has no interest for me,although I do get hungry of course.....9c today blue sky and sunshine although the xmas forecast is hovering between blizzards and ice in some parts and rain and gusty wind in others

I have a few choices, for the holiday I'll likely have chicken, or the pre cooked package of turkey and gravy along with cauliflower and dressing with wine. For the most part eating has become a chore, I try to make good food as its easier and more palatable to eat. All too often I am full after the first few fork fulls with my forehead sweating and then its work to finish off my plate.
-15C partly cloudy, 7cms of snow overnight.

Join our club Ron....and Buff you can bring the lunch .I'll expect you both to leave by 3pm mind you,or sooner if you feel like it.I won't be offended.I remember one year when Les went upstairs, came back down wearing his PJS switched off the lights and said "good night all" I didn't know where to look, but as it was dark nobody noticed my embarrassment.....We did enjoy and drink and a laugh when we were younger but our only family is in Aus.and our friends are slowly passing on.....so stuff xmas and have a happy turkey.
8c breezy.bright and sunny.

-27C Mainly sunny. I like staying close to home over the holidays, its not a great time for travel. The weather forecast is calling for a wide spread system to move through with a lot of snow and windy conditions. They are asking people to alter their travel plans and consider traveling earlier before the storm. When I was younger our family held big parties. All too often my flight would take on significant delays. After my father passed we stopped the big celebrations and I stayed home. Its not just the flights being delayed, or cancelled but one has to consider leaving the house alone in winter. A furnace failier in frigid conditions is a disaster waiting to happen.

Looks like you are due for a really white Christmas Buff. Carol bright and sunny is good. It looks like we may get a storm on Christmas day , suits me. Ron.

-18 with heavy snowfall. This weather event may become better known as the big Christmas Dump, it will be really white for many. They are calling for anywhere from 20 to 40 cms of snow in a widespread area from south of the border to James Bay.

8c and falling but no signs of the return of snow and ice yet.The streets are pretty filthy and a good down pour would be nice. The council road sweepers must be helping out at the hospitals during the strikes.

A cyclone formed in the Timor sea yesterday and crossed the coast near Darwin. It was only cat 1 but it is dumping a far bit of rain. It is moving fast and has crossed the border into WA this morning. They are expecting daily rain totals of 100 mm. Melbourne got hit by two severe storms yesterday afternoon. There was some large hail and the airport was closed due to the danger of lightning strikes to planes taking off. rain for the next four days here. Ron.

4c and grey. We're waiting for more wintry weather over the weekend.Seems like the USA is on track for severe snow bomb.
Forggot to mention it was the Winter solstice on Wednesday so the days are getting longer, gradually mind you .About 2 mins. a week.

-20C Windy with snow and blowing snow. I dug out from another 15 cms yesterday, and at least another 10 cms more has fallen so far. Lots of power outages in the southern part of the province, I hope everyone bought gas for their generators before the winds picked up. A lot of flights got canceled, and with road closures its best to stay home until this passes.

Cool and cloudy, expcting showers this afternoon. The southern states (they had snow a week ago) are now expecting a heatwave for Christmas. I knew i wouldn't get away with it. I have a guest. My upstairs neighbour has gone away for a holiday and left me with the cat. Ron.

-18C blowing snow. We endured white out conditions, high winds and I am surprised the power stayed on. With the cat you are not alone for Christmas Ron. My cat is snoring on the recliner, keeping it warm for me when I take my snooze before lunch. I'm glad to be home in these conditions

-20C Sun and cloud. I got an unexpected present from mother nature yesterday, my parking area was blown clean of snow leaving only a little to be shoveled, even the truck was completely free of snow. The high winds blew the snow around and it looked intimidating to take the snowmobile out to pack the walkway down. I expected a lot more work.

5c and a mixed day of grey skies and rain and intermittent weak sunshine. We went to the supermarket, more for something to do than to stock up.It's what we call a Bank Holiday,an extra day off when Xmas falls on a weekend. Most of the fresh food was near to use by / sell by date but I only got a few bits. There's far to much unsold stuff which will go to waste unless they donate it tomorrow......

Much the same here 6c and breezy with light showers......

Hmmm, I found a strange piece of plastic on the floor that looks like it broke off something
but I have no idea what.Better save it in the junk drawer until I die.......Own up guys,we've all got one.
I don't but Les has, more than one in fact.
I wonder how Chris is doing ?

I too hope Chris is ok. Carol I have at least one drawer that has no junk in it. I'm getting sick of being bossed around by a cat. She has a very high opinion of her position in the universe. Rain today and lots of it up in the Kimberly . they are expecting 400 mm a day for the next couple of daysRon.

I'm sure all cats have a high opinion of them selves.I think it's probably best just to give in and do as you're told Ron. Buff will know. 9c and not too bad at all ,although forthcoming bad weather threats abound.

-6C Gray. The best way to treat a cat is by treating them as equal. The cat and I are a pair, we respect each other and do the things a couple would do. I don't ask much other than to use the litter box. She returns the favor and stays clear of the kitchen and uses the scratching post instead of the furniture. She came from a rescue, and I received her after her kittens were ready for adoption. She has been probably the best cat out of all I have had in my life. Without a cat this house would feel empty like a mausoleum.

I just wish the cat came with a volume control. Her Owner is deaf as a post and the cat thinks she has to yell at the top of her voice. I had a lousy night last night with bad dreams. That usually means I will wake up with vertigo.I got up early and took stemitil fed the cat and went back to bed. I had to get up again thanks to bile salt dihorrea. Thank goodness shopping centres have loos. Cloudy day with showers. Ron.

6c and wet....I went to the shop on my bike to buy a bottle of gin to see in the New Year. Then I thought "what if I fall off my bike and break the bottle" so I sat outside the shop and drank it....good job to,as I fell off my bike seven times on the way home....Oh.,those were the days !!! We don't usually bother seeing in the New Year but I might this year,if only to make sure '22 has gone. The ships and boats on the river used to blow their hooters and the coast guards fired flares at midnight ,but not so much any more. Most we can expect is fireworks.I wish you better health and contentment in '23 as maybe happiness is too much to hope for. xx

-10C Partly cloudy. Cats can be vocal, particularly when their owners are away, but they usually settle down after a few days. Cats like affection, spending some time with them on their terms will form a bond, and that cat may become your best friend. I'll stay up like I do till past midnight and watch the fireworks from Chicago on Tv, and declare 22 over and into the dumpster. Out of the year only one week was good, and that was the visit at the family camp with my nephew, and seeing family I have not seen since 2019.

Happy new year. I watched my bedside clock turn over to 2023. Not a peep from anywhere. I hope things improve for us but I have noticed that when you are on a downhill slope on roller skates whatever happens ,happens. Ron.

All the best Ron....I know what you mean and usually I'm optimistic, but for some reason I can't shake a feeling of foreboding this year.Days are ok but I lie awake at night worrying and planning.I think for me it's an age thing and having Les to worry about has a lot to do with it.But as the song goes Kaye Serra Serra....8c and ok today

ing

-3 Cloudy. I have never seen such a quiet new years eve, it was more like a Monday night after a regular workday. Usually bunches of people would be out on their snowmobiles going up and down the road along with the steady hum of snowmobiles heard from the distance on the lakes around here. Nothing this year. I have that same foreboding feeling about 23. Uncertainties about the year ahead and my health, along with the concerns of the heavy snow load on the roof of my remote cabin that I have no way of getting to.

My first visitors on new years day were two police officers. No problems with me but they were asking if i had heard anything unusual at the neighboring house. I said that we live in a very noisy area but I had not heard anything that had concerned me , screams or yells or anything of that sort. After they left I noticed that the glass in the front door was broken. I hope the family are ok. The mother is a tiny lady ,she only stands about 5 foot and is quite attractive. she has four children and there does not seem to be a male in residence. I think that may be the problem. i think there may have been some serious break up problems in the marriage. I really hate that sort of trouble as it is usually the women and children that suffer. I never get involved in situations like that but i certainly will call the police if the situation requires it. Ron.

Bright blue sky and low sunshine.A bit nippy at 3c and loads of folk down at the river and quay.....far too much traffic looking for parking space. We were glad to get home. Our car stays at home except for shopping ......AND apparently there are easter eggs in the shops!!!!

-7C Cloudy. New years day was silent, yesterday could have been confused for a day during the work week. Nobody snowmobiling or out and about despite the mild conditions. I hope all is going to be well with your neighbor Ron.

The cat is fine ,the new neighbur is a bit of a PIA She needs to have the last word on everything. Rainy humid weathers. I told the chemist that my new year wish is for some one to come forward with a decent pain killer . He said that every month they take another painkiller off the available list.
There are huge floods up in the Kimberly at the moment. The flood level is two meters higher than anything previously recorded all thanks to a non event cyclone that hit Darwin a few weeks back. Ron.

Ron, its the same problem with painkillers here to, unfortunately politics has entered our medicine cabinets. They worry about addiction, but after over 20 years requiring them I don't care if I am addicted or not, its the pain relief I am in need of. If one respects the opiods they work extremely well, and do not lead to needing to increase the strength. I tough it out to use less, and by doing that the pills work better. Glad the cat is happy. -20 Sunny.

another canny day if breezy and 8c+ for now.Same here re: pain meds.Tramadol (2 a day as directed) bib nothing for my back pain surprisingly and as I'd been using them for a while the doc stopped scripting them (over the phone ).I told him that over the counter stuff worked better for me, so he told me to continue !!!! It costs me £8 for 2wks supply at 2 per day,but it's a small price to pay for comfort. As you see,I'm not addicted.Thing is over 60 females are entitled to FREE scripts. But I've not seen a doc for over 5yrs except for the gastro and I really can't be bothered to faff about begging and explaining myself.

It seems over here that anyone over 70 is entitled to quietly go away and die. No pain relief, no urgency for medical tests(still no word on colonoscopy) . no scheduled doctors appointments for people with chronic medical conditions including diabetes. During the pandemic there was a significant drop in the Australian population. The rating on aged care in Australia is poor to non existent. Ron. Cloudy but very warm.

11C and bright and breezy again.........you know what Ron,it's bloody disgraceful..They encourage people to stop smoking, eat sensibley, don't drink alcohol get enough exercise, yada, yada, yada. Every day we hear that OLD people are taking up much needed hospital beds as they've gotten better but THERE IS NOWHERE TO PUT THEM ,meaning inadequate social care.I say eat chips, smoke and drink as much as you like....we're gonna die anyway

Its frustrating when the public healthcare system paints everyone with a broad lazy political brush. the system treats regular people like children with their 'don't do this, just do that'. Heck its my body and if I want a Scotch, I will pour a Scotch, and I will pour it my way. What I notice for seniors, is that they tend to ignore us. The doctor ordered an ultrasound. The appointment is early, when I asked the receptionist for an afternoon appointment she told me there are none, all patient appointments are in the morning she answered. What kind of health care is this, not all of us can handle an early appointment without disrupting their entire bodily systems. In my case I am left fatiqued for the rest of the day, and constipated for what can become a prolonged episode along with the possibility for a flare.

It has taken a long time to reach me but i have just received my personal alarm. It has a fall function, it calls the ambulance and has a GPS . I guess it makes it easier to find the body . The cat owner is back home so I'm relieved of duties. The weather is still quite mild for Jan, we have some warm days but it always seems windy so the humidity is not high. Ron.

Cool and damp today.....glad you got your alarm Ron. and I hope you never have to use it.But it must be reassuring to know help will be at hand.Do you have to wear it around your neck ? Both Les and I would be in a pickle without each other even though our neighbours are close.....too close,to be honest. If nobody saw us for days or weeks they wouldn't think to knock on the door.

-10 Clouding over. Good that you received your alarm Ron, do you miss the cat? They can form bonds quickly, but at least the cat is in the same building and may visit you. If it were not for my Nephew checking in with phone calls, nobody would know anything happened to me for possibly weeks. That is one of the reasons for the large pail of drinking water for my cat. With the dry food available and water, she would be good for a long time

Yes Carol it hangs around my neck. My neighbours check on me but usually only because they need something fixed. I see the cat most days Buff . she is always happy to see me. She is very good natured and doesn't have a mean streak at all ,except to other cats. I am pleased to have the alarm as I don't want to be the cause for distress for any emergency responders. The Kimberly is in a shocking mess ,the rain has stopped but the Fitzroy river is 50 km wide in places, both the bridges at Fitzry crossing have been swept away. It is the only sealed road across the Kimberly and it may take several months to repair. Ron.

4c with a cold blustery breeze. It was sunny earlier but cloudy now...USA is having heaps of weather problems too Ron,It's starting to get a bit scarey if you ask me...Buff you're a real good pet owner to think of your precious puss first should you have problems. We had dogs for more than 50yrs 3 and 4 at a time, but when our little lad had to go to sleep it was decided
not to have another given our age and health .Dogs need you 24/7 and we would be worried sick if we couldn't be there due to illness or worse. I have to say my life is not as happy as it was but I know we did the right thing.
