What is YOUR weather like today??

Wet to say the least.....we were going to a book fair today but it looks like the rain is here for the day so we're staying put.
'Despite giving 50+ books to charity I've got more than enough to keep me happy ,at least 2-3 years worth.....
 
A nice day and it's looking hopeful....'bout time too
we've had a walk down to the river mouth but boy that bank back up home is getting steeper by the week.
I've been up and down it all my life and remember the days when I didn't even notice the incline.Maybe having two or three German Shepherd dogs helped haul me up..Even terrier Alfie did his bit,
 
Glad ye enjoyed the walk by the river Carol , it really does the body and soul good to be near water ,
Got a walk in today with the golden girl (dog not wife ) and really enjoyed it , strong wind the the sting is gone out of it ,for the moment at least , 14 C windy with some sunshine
 
There is nothing quite like going for a good walk, the fresh air is like a tonic. I may do that later, and it will be the last one until post op. We received a centimeter of snow this morning, everything is white and very calm. The black clouds of the operation are building to the west and rumbling, I am trying to get everything ready. Preparing for the best and the worst scenarios, and bought extra cat food and litter for the box in case it turns into a long hospital stay.
Since I start fasting and purging tomorrow, I splurged on a large breakfast, and a big supper later. I had a big plate of bacon and eggs, and since the doctor couldn't see it, it doesn't count. -1C flurries.

When I went for a walk yesterday I had hat scarf and coat ,by the time I was home ,coat was off scarf and hat were off and I was drenched in sweat 😓,

Thanks for the inspiration Tony, its very real now, the fast is on and I had a glass of apple juice for a breakfast. The cat was sleeping in the hospital bag. Yesterday I went for a walk to the lake, looked at my completed dock and wondered if I will be using it, or if my condition becomes worse, it will become somebody else's dream. I guess I will find out, when they go in.
 
Hey Bufford rooting for you ,all you can do is face is head on , it's funny just got a letter from my colorectal surgeon about an hour ago ,appointment Thursday to see him ,so I could be joining the Ken club as well soon , I got a pre operative assessment over 3 years ago and they forgot about me since 😀 , I think you will be fishing from that dock soon with a bit of luck and some prayers and positive thoughts .
 
I don't know what to say Buff, except please think positive, you sound really down and it's just not like you my friend.Please update us as soon as you're able.

Heavy rain clearing but feels cold 12C

Finally got to see my surgeon today , and will be having a Proctectomy(Barbie Butt)either this coming Wednesday or Wednesday week ,
Kinda shocked at the speed it's happening but glad it finally happening, had a scope today and he told me it looks all clear but took samples .
 
Well I don't know what to say Tony,except I hope it all goes well for you.....I hope Buff has come through his investigation OK too.
I'm in a wee bit of a quandary regarding my innards but it's to soon to worry about it for now. My big problem is Les....If I mention my little problems (and they are little...for now) I really don't want to / can't, leave Les If I need to be admitted.....The consultant is going to phone me soon for a chat so I'll have to decide then.It's a bugger when we've no family support to rely on....

Hey Carol ,I've preop Tuesday and op the following day ,so all being good I will check in late Wednesday or early Thursday, think I'll have to watch the Barbie movie to see what I have in my future .

I'm back on the right side of the hospital window, back in the world instead of looking at it from the gurney. It was an 8 hr surgery, they did it laproscopic and saved a small portion of my colon. If I may say it was a wild ride of a journey between the crazy dreams of being chased by bears, the noisy place and what I called the coffee club early bird couple in the next bed blabbing endlessly, which didn't help with me being a night owl. The other thing is that the hospital is located in a community an hour east in the other time zone. This made getting any sleep difficult. I took it upon me to get out of the bed often for short walks and heal up to get out of that cage.
The peace and quiet at home is the best thing. I'm thinking about Tony, I'm sure he is like me a week ago; a plane wreck at the end of the runway. But one thing at a time and its all the way back up and away with life. (y)
 
I'm really happy to hear from you both and all the bad stuff is over for now.....I was beginning to feel like Bessie no mates.
Take it easy boys......18c here and a lovely day BUT I really don't need it any warmer thank you very much.
 
Hey Carol ,starting the healing process ,the only problem is that I have to eat a lot of really nice stuff for the next month or so to help with healing ,but 😀 seriously doing well ,even had a small walk already and Bufford is on the way as well ,will keep you updated
 
Hi Carol, I am doing well, it was abit rough at first, but now I developed a routine at home resting and taking it easy. It's a great excuse to do nothing and spend time calling friends and family. 10C with sunshine. I see recovery after a major surgery as a new start on the next chapter of life. Life is a journey, I am looking forward what comes around the next bend.
 
It seems to me Buff,that you're always busy and you made sure to get it together before your foray into hospital,so it's good that you're taking it easy now,but please don't worry about stuff getting over looked for a while,a GOOD while. Tony has the BOSS the keep him in line but I'm sure he's a " problem child " at times.....most men are,I know mine is !!!!

Since I never married marks me the impossible man, I'm okay to wear that badge. It might be not so bad when I hear about the issues my nephew and others deal with. However, there's no free lunch, I still have to carry out the trash and bring in the firewood. Day three of being home, and so far so good. I enjoy this holiday from work. 8C Cloudy, but the world is beginning to green up, all it would take are a couple of warm sunny days for the leaves to pop.
 
Last night the clouds parted and there was a northern lights display that lit up the night. There has not been one like this in years. The same solar storm was threatening the power to go out, but it held up. Its a nice warm sunny day coming up, and I am going to enjoy life in the slow lane. 12C under brilliant sunshine.

We've had the N.Lights for two nights running and more to come.It's the best show for 20yrs....BUT I missed it yet again, even though I'm the worst sleeper in the world....But lots of great pics on social media to enjoy

I was going to ask Tony but Mam and Dad brought me up Not to ask personal questions and wait until your told .Glad to hear all's positive so far. Buff's not sharing,but that's OK. As long as he's coping that's the most important thing.
 
Again we had quite a light show last night, and the power was doing some weird things but stayed on. Its likely due to the long power lines we have in these remote parts. Carol, I am faring quite well, I am glad I have a reserve of percocet at home because the doctors are reluctant to prescribe enough for proper pain relief. They gave me a prescription for 20 tablets, which is peanuts for such a surgery. I called the office on friday for more and more bandage supplies but office closed. Without my back up reserve I would be in the worst way for pain. The medical system needs to change their view on pain meds because politics has overtaken the medicine cabinet. The focus needs to be put on the current situation the patient is facing; pain puts stress on the healing process which can lead to pure misery, loss of sleep which drains the strength from the body which can lead to further complications like infections and others. Drug dependence or addiction should be the last thing the medical system should be concerned about, the focus must be placed on the current situation the patient is dealing with. I had no problems tapering from the pain meds last time.
I'll be having the discussion with the doctor's office on Monday. One has to speak one's mind, be pointed to get the proper care these days, always offer reasons, be firm and be kind. Its a changed world.
I am going to have a snooze and then lunch, my appetite is improving, one day at a time, one small step forward, but expect setbacks, like the poor sleep I had last night.

I agree with every thing you say regarding pain meds,Buff I'm in my mid seventies and.....No I'm not going to whinge about my probs when you and Tony are both recovering from quite serious surgery.....just that,
how do they (Medics) know just how much pain you're in ? and at our (my) age if we get addicted or dependant, then so what ? we're not going to cost the government money by asking to go into re- hab, are we? Just let us live our senior years without pain please.

Hey Guys doing well touch wood , as regards paincare I am on paracetamol 800 mg 4 times a day plus Tapentadol as needed for the pain , I'm also on 500mg of xanax 3 times a day and on 25mg seroquel at night ,
The last 3 nights I have slept well ,at least 8 hours with breaks with the nurses taking stats which I feel is helping with recovery
Still quite sore (Down There) as Les Dayson would say but getting there , can't sit flat on my b tom ,way to uncomfortable but managing,

Carol the problem is that the politicians are now doing the prescribing instead of the doctors. I consider it a crisis situation for patients today because their current medical situation is not being considered first, rather the politics comes first and the patients suffer in uncontrolled pain as a result. Its unfortunate when the addicted get all the attention and we as patients are muted and ignored.
5 years ago I landed in the ER as a result of a bad cut, I laid on the gurney unattended in a storage room because the place was overwhelmed while the nurses scrambled to provide the drunks and addicts with beverages and sandwiches. Our ER rooms are stretched beyond their limit because of this. These drunks pee and mess up the bathrooms creating more misery for real patients in need. Back in better days these drunks and addicts would be held in the police station while our ER rooms were accessible to those in need.

Tony it will be awhile, probably 4 to 6 weeks before I can resume work like cutting firewood. That does not stop me from lighting fires as I still need to heat the house as the nights still get to the freezing mark. Sometimes I can get away with one or two shots from the oil furnace first thing after a mild night, but so far nights are still quite cool and wood heat is warmer and steady. My butt is getting better by the day, with less discharge that is now down to staining the pad rather than soaking it in the first week after surgery. Still have to take it slow, and don't over do it with anything including keeping the meals to a smaller size to let the new plumbing work heal.

Down below is drying up nicely ,very little seepage from the wound ,will definitely take it easy once I'm out ,but I'm walking a few hundred yards every day now and with permission going up and down stairs , can desperately myself getting out before the weekend

Your number one on the runway Tony. Its a great feeling to rise from the wreckage and once again resume life, participating in the world rather than looking at it go by from the inside of the hospital window. Take it one step at a time and enjoy your favorite comfort foods.

At home now after a nice snooze , pain acceptable and have to eat well according to the dietician for the next month to promote healing ,

Good news Tony ,(that the Lady of the house let you back in that is ) I'm not going to tell you to take it easy just hope the weather warms so that you can have a little stroll and sit outdoors. Weather much the same here as over there.Having a day in as not feeling my best. Sure it's diabetes type two.Phone for apt earlier and when I said why,got one with a jnr.GP for tomorrow morning.
With Les's situation, I'm worried to say the least.so sooner I get sorted the better.

I have a new game I play at night called "should I go pee or can I wait until morning ".....guess the answer !!
 
Hey Carol if it's type two it's easy enough to sort , I cut back on a lot of carbs and they gave me a med called forziga and my numbers are near normal now ,

Not a bad day 16 C with some sunshine , out in in garden with cushions all around me protecting me tender BarbieButt but feeling good ,was in good enough shape pre surgery and that helps I think, hope yourself and Les are OK 🤗
 
10C and very springlike. Two days ago I saw the first leaves popping out on some of the poplar trees, while others are still tight in the bud. The grass is greening up and the rabbits and partridges are enjoying the fresh greens. My butt has greatly improved over the past couple of days, sitting is getting easier, and there is only a small stain on the dressing covering my barbbiebutt.
I would consider that night game to be Russian roulette for my condition. If I feel any need to pee, I must get up and step out to go, if not I risk overfilling my bladder dangerously, the pain is excruciating I must get up carefully to go. My bladder was damaged when it was overfilled/stretched during emergency surger 22 years ago. Its never been the same since.
 
7C cold and wet.
It was a long afternoon yesterday, the neighbor took me in to see the stoma clinic and they were pleased with the healing progress, and will provide me with home care on the days I need to change the bag. I found sitting in the waiting room on those hard chairs to be impossible and had to stand instead. In the car was much better. I found placing towels under my thighs helped to take pressure off of the area with the stitches and the ride was really not that bad. It got tiring going through the grocery store and was glad to get home. The weather is lousy today, I have a low fire on, and will simply rest through the day. A great day to be lazy and do nothing;)
 
Hey Bufford I feel your pain , sitting can be nearly impossible at times esp on normal type chairs , sometimes I don't even bother sitting down to eat as it's easier to stand ,but even standing for a while you can feel the aches start down below.

Warm but a mist coming off the sea,,,no complaints though. Guys,to get personal,when I gave birth to Scott (55yrs ago) I was stitched and was given a soft donut ring to sit on,that I can still remember the feeling of relief of to this day,There were not enough to go round and I carried mine everywhere...I'm sure you could get one from Amazon by tomorrow...
Had bloods re diabetes...will hear next week.Also got 3 days antibiotics for a slight urine infection.......

I was told that the donut cushion was not to be used due to the spreading of the stitches. The hospital bed was comfortable I lived in it during the hospital stay which gave me ideas for home. The living room recliner chair is about as close to a hospital bed, and I have been living in it since I got home. I eat from a board across the arm rests to hold my plate and the laptop, I watch TV and sleep in it. Elevating the legs and reclining the back both take weight and pressure off of the stitches on my butt. It works well. I couldn't imagine the misery without the recliner for recovery. It would be difficult to stand to eat as I get lightheaded when standing too long.
I have been suffering from a urinary tract infection and yesterday it was painful after drinking less fluids. I started taking in more fluids and water, and that helps to get increased urination and better flow. I don't like getting up to pee every half hour day and night, but it provides relief. I also found increased the painkillers which helped with the flow problem, glad I have a few spare as they don't prescribe nearly enough post op.
I made a batch of peanut butter cookies from a cookie mix, and they are delicious, but I must avoid eating too many as they make gas.
 
Can't live without the recliner , they are essential ,hope the uti clears up soon ,I'm forcing a lot of water into me at the moment because the meds I'm on for diabetes clear out the sugar through the urine ,
How are you doing on pain relief, they only gave me a script for two palaxia 1mg Sr for seven days ,they just about push the pain in to the background with the help of some paracetamol /Tylenol,
I have enough until Monday so hopefully the GP will prescribe more
Still quite painful but docs here hate giving the strong painkillers, at 63 I really don't care if I "could" be addicted to them ,

cool and grey but it might clear up later.Off to the village to the weekend market later.....It's the same stuff week in,week out but it's a walk and we don't go every weekend....don't actually buy anything either except books
 
10C with a passing shower. Its been milder, and the leaves are popping out on many trees now indicating that the biting flies might be only a week out from hatching. My doctor prescribed only 20 percocet tabs, a drop in the bucket. I asked for more but was declined. Luckily I have an ongoing prescription of percocet from my primary and if that were not the case I would have killed myself by now given the level of pain when going off for even a short time. The only reason things went well so far is proper pain control to let the healing take place. I am on a slow taper now, as I am 17 days post op. The barbie butt stitches have dried up and healing now, but I still have the ongoing pains that rise and fall in the abdomen. Healing is a slow process.

I will be having the 'talk' with my surgeon about this at the appointment. Animals get better treatment than patients. I won't tear her apart because the doctors are under the gun due to provincial policy regarding opiates and can lose their license for over prescribing. I will bring this up to the appropriate authority, as I have the time, and I am beyond fedup with the politics in the medical system that leave patients suffering. Tony as you said we are senior's and dependency is the last thing on the list that I would be concerned about. The problem is that politics has taken over the medicine cabinet, and addicts are getting all the attention while patients suffer in silence.
Another example of this was about 5 years ago, I had to go to the ER due to a bad cut late at night. I was placed into a storage room because the ER was full, most were addicts brought in off the street and the place was packed with them. While I waited for 9 hours on the gurney for the doctor to stitch me up, I watched the nurses running back and forth providing for every need for the addicts like a hotel, as they received juice and sandwiches, while the staff had no time for my needs or those of real patients. As far as I am concerned by the behavior by the addicts they should have been held at the jail house at the police station. Its a regular daily occurrence and Its gotten to the point that the hospital has police officers standing by in the ER 24 hrs a day.

Well rant off, it helped pass the time, soon time for a snooze and then see what the afternoon will bring.
 
well my GP has come up trumps and given me a months supply of palaxia 60 x 1mg SR and 90 x .5mg quick release so should be ok for a while now pain relief wise , lovely afternoon here 18c with some sunshine breaking through
 
we've been down to the riverside to look at classic cars.It's an annual thing.It was nice to see the old classics we had back in the day
but they were not as classic when we had them hahaha.....lots of sea fret again and a cool 13c..Getting up the bank home was a slow process.We have three choices of banks and they're all steep.My pain meds of choice are dissolving as I tap....feel better each day comrades x

15C sunny and windy. I made myself a breakfast, bacon and eggs with pancakes and syrup. Tea and orange juice and a banana. It went down well, and I can feel the fuel in my stomach. This will put the rebuilt system to the test. I went for a good walk yesterday, and will do the same later. Its warm this morning, and I did not need to light a fire.
Glad your doctor brought your pain meds up to date Tony. The best doctors are the one's who went through surgery themselves and understand the patient's perspective. As for those classic cars, Carol, they look so romantic, until one starts one up and has to engage the clutch, and then the reality of it all comes to life. Ah those simpler times were the best.
 
dull and cold but it's still early. I don't enjoy summer as you know,but I might have to nip over to Tony's to enjoy some warmth and birdsong.....and good conversation hahaha.
Back to the car show.....some of the "classics" were known as "bangers" in our day and a trip to the scrap yard for "parts" was a regular day out.Then bonnet up or a slide under in the street, and all fixed until next time. Les really misses those days...If you saw a NEW car you stopped and stared as bangers where the norm then.Taped up and holes patched, cheap fuel,road tax and insurance and we went all over the UK on quiet roads without a care in the world. We could even pull the caravan onto the roadside and camp overnight......happy days !!!! tomorrow I'll talk about the cost of groceries,cigarettes and alcohol in the 60s/70s....
 
Beautiful day here today 22c with clear blue skies , pain has dialed back a notch but Im taking the pain killers at more regular intervals now I have an adequate supply , going in to get my incision checked by the nurse on Wednesday , so hopefully all will be ok , still waiting on my special cushion to be delivered , but was told today that it has to be approved by the section manager before it can be ordered , im thinking my butt will be healed by the time i get it , typical red tape

20c here now with a white cloud cover,,,,,,bad rain tomorrow and thurs, but it's usual for bank hols.
the weather man is just saying "significant" rain tomorrow. so I'm glad we got the shopping in.

I had a Gi bleed that started on Sunday, I lost a lot of blood and ended up going to the ER yesterday morning. I should have stayed at home. Looked good at first at the ER when they took my vitals, but my blood pressure was only 95/65 and took bloodwork, I thought I would be inside in no time........but became suspicious when they said sit out in the waiting room until called. I had nothing suitable to sit on wedged between the wheelchair and the bench seats while watching all these younger people who are perfectly ambulatory getting medical service while waiting in misery without proper seating, not even a spare gurney and the painkiller wore off. I could barely get up I was so weak with pounding heartbeat.
After four hours of pure misery waiting I asked the receptionist how much longer, she said it could be hours. I got the feeling they had no doctor on call to handle a case such as my own. I went home, there's no sense being tortured and risking a heart attack and damaging the stitches down below waiting for nothing. The medical system abandoned me. This is just one more reason I hate publicly funded healthcare. They will make you wait forever until you die, the system is simply not getting the funding it needs, and being run as a monopoly by the government makes things even worse.

Once I got home things were once again under control. If I needed the ambulance I would get better care than sitting around dying in ER.
Well, if the seat fits Tony, that will be good, but the price on some medical devices are ridiculous.
I get lightheaded from the blood loss so I will remain in the recliner while eating foods to boost my bloods. One day at a time. 15C some sunshine.
 
OMG !!!! that's bloody disgraceful Buff,but you don't need me to rant about it...You did the right thing going home but I would probably have stayed.Have you rang your doctor ? and can you rely on your neighbours if you need some help. ?
It must be scarey on your own.Please keep us up dated and look after yourself.

Got my "bottom" scar checked this morning by the nurse and she confirmed I still had a hot ass ,or did she say don't be an ass ,

We had heavy rains overnight, the wet season is moving in quite predictably. I am resting up, took the iron supplements, and am staying away from caffeine and anything else that may interfere with iron absorption. There is a noticeable improvement with feeling better when getting up from the chair, and better endurance when moving about in the house. But I'm not pushing it, I could not go for any kind of walk, the neighbor will have to pick up groceries for me. The weather is lousy, and I will stay put. 12C wet.
My butt has improved a lot too in the last couple of days, and find sitting less of a challenge, glad to hear yours is better too Tony. Carol, if they say no waiting, take it as a complement from the medical team for getting good service which is something very hard to find anymore these days. A lazy day for me, I will take advantage of that.
 
Never knew that about caffeine and iron supplements, glad to hear you are taking it easy as well ,felt quite tired today so went back to bed for a couple of hours but energy levels are definitely low , will be meeting the surgeon next week so hopefully all will be good , Still waiting for my expensive cushion
 
still raining !!!! glad you're feeling positive Buff and are taking it easy. You sound very chirpy Tony, probably because you chose to misunderstand the nurse and took it as a compliment.......
 
Rain has stopped but showers on the way and it's 12c but definitely NOT summery. Diabetes blood test shows a drop in numbers since last years check up by 5,now 36 and still high but I'll take that.......today's bloods are to check liver and kidneys and will get a text next week to see doc......something's not right .....hope you're both feeling ok

2C The rains turned into wet snow, which is pretty typical for the time of year when large systems move through, but its melting on contact. I'm taking it easy with a good fire on. I am feeling stronger, but must still go easy getting up and moving around, otherwise my heart starts to work hard. Tony, if I am any kind of an indication your butt should be improving by next week. You are lucky to have a surgeon who can see you in a timely manner, my appointment is in June, with no suggestion of offering cushions or pain killers. I still favor the recliner, but the stitches are closed and dry, and I feel pain down there much less than a few days ago.
 
Hey Bufford ,glad the stitches are closed and dry ,still some weeping from there but very little , recliners make a hugh difference , really take the pressure of the area , hey Carol 👋,
18C overcast but nice enough to sit in my nest of cushions
 
16c with scattered clouds so not a bad start to the bank holiday weekend....Forgot to mention the govnt are telling us to prep
for a "disaster" (like we all don't already have one)....we've to have 3 days canned food,water,batteries for torch etc.The list goes on depending on how much you want to spend and how much you want to panic.Also the gov. have called a referendum and there's to be a general election in 6 weeks.....if that's not panic,I don't know what is hahaha
 
4C sunny. I am feeling much better today, and noticed the difference last night as the evening progressed. I'll be up and about more today, go for a short walk, and pick up small wood for heating the house. Stairs are much easier to navigate, and the heart is working much less now. Given the long distances here, I don't have the option of simply running down to the clinic or ER. One has to self diagnose and ride things out.
Carol, we have to deal with our own disasters or better yet inconveniences when mother nature loses her temper. In addition to pantry foods, I keep my freezer well stocked, and enough gas to keep the generator running for a couple weeks. The real disasters relate more to colostomy bags...no need to elaborate :giggle:
 
Chinese food sounds great , I think ill get the wok out tomorrow and make a curry , its hard not to be doing stuff Bufford , my oh is always on the go , today she had the saw out and cut a load of timber , what a woman , and if i go and try to do anything she gives a roar at me , good day today , got lots of sunshine and walked around 2km , rain tomorrow , so ill have to watch the big match on the tv , stay well Buff and Carol
 
7 Gray and damp, it should be clearing later. I woke up well past my wake up time, it felt like my body needed the sleep. Sounds like you have a very capable partner who shares the load Tony, its not easy doing it alone. Once I heal up, mother nature will be cracking the whip to get me going on the wood pile, each day I rest it's one day closer to the next heating season. But now, I could not do much work outside even if I was well due to the clouds of biting black flies.
 
I find myself snoozing during the day and I'm having a good solid 8 hours at night and it's making a difference, I don't think I could live in an area with biting flies ,the worse we have are midges near forested areas near water
 
15c but overcast and drizzly....typical holiday weekend (Whitsun)
Not going far,may over to the park for an hour,but when it's damp we can't sit and listen to the birds, have to keep moving.
We have taken plastic carrier bags to sit on in the past but the damp plays hell with old bones these days
