What is YOUR weather like today??

@Ron - 17 meters above normal? omg, stay safe.

gloriously sunny, loads of spring flowers popping up and not as cold as it has been, thank god. Soon be March :)

As you get further north into the cape the great dividing range is almost on the coast. The rivers run straight down the range and when we get rain like they are having now they act like huge stormwater drains. They go down almost as quickly as they come up. When they come up though you definitely don't go near them , try to swim in them or try to drive your car thru them. It is just as bad on the narrow coastal flood plains. In the north you just stay out of the water. Unfortunately kids are fearless and sometimes a bit of peer pressure ends in tragedy. Ron.

We've had some of our very worst blizzards in March. I think it has actually snowed here about every other day for what seems like weeks.

Light snow and cold. Right now it is 7F and -2 windchill.

Marlena, we also usually get bigger snowfalls in March and April. That's because it is generally warm enough for the air to hold more moisture.

Sunny, windy and cold here today. We had about 39 cm (15") of new snow and winds gusting to 108 km/hr (67mph) yesterday. Hopefully that is the last storm for awhile.

One cyclone formed up in the gulf cat2 but heading west toward the northern territory. Another low is deepening east of Rockhampton and they think it may be heading my way. Forecast for the next few days is torrential rains, very high winds and flash flooding. It coincides with some of the biggest tides of the year so it could be quite devastating. At least it is the weekend and I will be home to bail the flat out when it floods. Ron.

If I want to be British and whinge about the weather then I had better emigrate to Australia.

It's a tad cold today (whinge), but again lovely and sunny.

Well we got some luck, bad this time . The low east of Rockhampton has been named as cyclone Marcia . It is expected to be cat 2 by the time it crosses the coast sometime on Friday. We are on the southern Quadrant unfortunately that is the weather quadrant. So far we are expecting gales in the 100 + kilometer range , high seas on top of king tides as well as torrential rain in the 2-500 mm range. Not looking forward to it as my unit usually starts to flood around the 300mm mark. Cyclone Lam formed in the gulf of Carpentaria and crossed the Northern territory coast as a cat 3 storm with gales and flood rains. What do you brits do for fun?

Ron, if we want that sort of fun we are obliged to read you posts ;) Stay safe, and we're thinking of you. Sorry to report, but its less cold, no wind, no rain, but no sun. Boring stuff here Ron. If you want boring, read the posts from us Brits. We will await with extreme excitement for you posts over the next few days, Ron.

I agree with all that Spooky says..........The atrocious weather in the USA has just been on our national news, talk about extremes !!!. Our son says it was about 43c in Kalgoorlie today. All he can manage to do after 12-13 hrs. work is a shower and dinner, but he has four kids to chauffeur 'round to after school clubs.

I was worried I wouldn't sleep last night because the temp.was expected to be 5c.

Can you imagine that Ron ?

I have 18+ inches of snow, snowing again and expected to get up to four more inches today. Winds are suppose to get up to 35+, and temps will drop into negative numbers this evening. Possibly get to -15 F, not even adding wind chill factor. Today's focus is prepping for power outages and keeping the fireplace going! Brrrrr...I am ready for Spring!

It is seven in the morning and I am looking out my window. I usually have a spectacular view of the Mapleton range. Today everything is just solid grey, Not a lot of wind yet tho they have upped the predicted wind speed to 150+ kliks as Marcia deepens . I don't know who names these things but you really have to wonder. The best way to survive these storms is to have a healthy fear of them. I'm afraid Marcia does not cut it , who is afraid of a Marcia? The other storm is up in the Territory. There is not always a lot of communication with remote aboriginal communities and they often bear the brunt of these storms in remote areas, a bit like the boxing day tsunami , you don't find out till much later how bad it was for the residents. Ron.

It has been pouring rain all night. My unit is the lowest floor of a two storey house .My bedroom and laundry are set into the side of a hill. They are between six and ten foot underground. I have had water coming thru the back wall since around 4am. It is still raining here. The dam for our water supply started running over the spillway yesterday afternoon. It is on the Maroochy river. I guess that means that the Maroochy river has no safety backup now with the dam full. The cyclone is just about to hit yeppon at the moment . There are spring tides, biggest of the year, around ten oçlock . Yeppon is expecting a 2.6 metre tidal surge on top of a nearly 5 metre high tide. The Maroochy river will possibly suffer the same fate. My stepson schedules shipping in Gladstone harbour just south of Yeppon. Apparently he sent most of the larger ships out to sea yesterday. You don't need large coal carriers breaking loose in the harbour. Looks like I will be bailing for a while yet. The winds are not too bad yet ,at the eyewall they are gusting to 290 kilometres an hour. The government and emergency services are doing a good job. There have been a lot of evacuations in low lying areas. We will see what happens in an hour or two. Ron.

Oh, Ron !!!! If it's not one thing it's another for you.

I don't know what to say to make it better.Nature's a wonderful but unpredictable thing.
I'll never complain about UK weather again (well not today anyway)

~we've got the sun back. Expecting flooding over the weekend in coastal areas. However, I'm up on the cliffs. Nothing like Marcia though, Ron.
We're all thinking of you and hope not too much damage is done to your unit, Ron.

It has been pouring rain for two days solid. My area had over 250mm yesterday and overnight and this morning we have had close to the same. I feel for the folks just north of me. The sound that a high catergory cyclone makes is enough to almost make you believe it is a living thing. Lots of damage to houses and utilities like power and clean water. I have been up since 4 am yesterday. My flat is under ground and after non stop rain the water enters through cracks in the wall . I estimate I have bailed over a hundred gallons with a dust pan and a bucket since yesterday. If I was well it probably would not have disturbed me too much as it is I am stuffed this morning. It is just past ten am here and the remains of the cyclone have just passed 50 kliks to the west of me. We should see the rain starting to slow down now. Ron.

Sunny at the moment, but we are expecting wind and rain. Our wind and rain remains nameless, Ron. For that we are pleased too.

Do you have anyone to help you Ron? I for one could never actually cope with that type of thing. We are thinking of you Ron. Good luck.

I stopped baling around midday. The cyclone (as a low) went right down the coastal plane and when it got into New South Wales it took a left turn and headed out to sea where it is building again but heading east.
No I live alone ,have for about seven years. I must admit I was very tired mainly because I could not afford to sleep for long as the water builds quickly when we get a torrential scud come thru. I was able to have a nanna nap this afternoon and I am going to bed now for an extended sleep. The state government is really good when these things happen . They have built cat5 rated shelters in most coastal areas . They told everyone prior to the event what would happen and they made certain that everyone knew that they had a certain time frame to act. After that emergency services were locked down until it was safe to come out. Thousands used the shelters and there were no deaths or serious injury. That is only the fifth cat 5 storm to hit the state in recorded history. Back to temps in the 30's and showers, Hugs to all Ron.

Wow, I thought I was going to post something else until what I read here. Wow, wow, wow, Ron, what I have missed the last couple days or so! I hope you are resting well too. Hugs. And hugs to all here. :ghug:

The weather bureau says we have nothing to worry about but ex cyclone Marcia after crossing back to sea has drifted north very near to where it started and is showing signs of deepening again. It is still producing strong winds and a large swell. One thing I have noted after years of living in the tropics is that you cannot trust a cyclone until in has literally been destroyed by a high. The temps and humidity after a cyclone is horrible. The temps are in the high twenties low thirties but the humidity sits at around sixty five which is very uncomfortable. The next sizable town north of Nambour where I live is Gympie. The poor buggers get all of the water that falls on our hinterland via the mary river which cuts through Gympie. They have started cleaning up the town business centre for the seventh time in 5 years. About twenty businesses went under again this time. I take my hat off to them for their resilliance. If it were me I doubt I could do it again. Ron.

We had high winds (about 65-70 mph) out of the canyons all night last night. It is colder (in the thirties, Fahrenheit) than it has been recently, but still beautiful blue skies today. Did have a tad of snow/rain mix the other day.

Sunny morning, clouding over now (2-10pm). We've had quite a lot of sunshine ,and very little really cold ,and wintry weather so far this year. We've been VERY fortunate.

Well it is almost the end of summer and the temps remain above average. All this week we are expecting high twenties and low thirties and humidity is consistent at around 65%. Not very comfortable. I would really like to thank everyone here for their support and encouragement over the last couple of weeks. You may be on the other side of the world but believe me your support really helps. Fair enough you cannot help on the physical side but you all bouy my spirits and that insulates me from the feeling of hopelessness that tends to go hand in hand with continual problems. One of my favourite sayings is that a good day is when nothing really bad happens. So to quote the Beetles 'I get by with a little help from my friends', thanks again ,hugs to everyone. Ron.

Yeh,what Spooky said Ron.I love to read your updates, not just because our son is in Oz.,but to make me realise how lucky us "whinging Poms" are.
Also best wishes to our friends over the "pond".They're suffering the opposite extremes to Ron & Co.,....... Lovely sunny day here, average temps., no wurries.

Ron, I read your updates to remind myself that not everywhere is a frozen tundra. We've been colder than average all February. It was -6F this morning when I left the house. At least the days are getting longer.

We've had the sunniest February for around 90 years.
Dull and damp out. Not many issues with that compared to other countries.
Roll on spring and autumn for all of us.
Stop press, it's just announced it was the sunniest winter.

I said to my hubs just yesterday,we've had a lot of sunny days this winter, and I was right.

It's been ANOTHER sunny morning,11c,but clouding over now,(lunchtime)

A lot of places have had a lot of extremes this year. Our extremes here have been extra nice days because, as opposed to most of the U.S., extra warm. (Just hope our reservoirs aren't too dry this year.) But, like Ron, I appreciate my friends here (and most of the time I also like to know what is going on in the rest of the world.)
It is another beautiful day here. :)

It is so cold here, it is hard to believe March starts tomorrow! I took a screenshot from my phone this morning, and this is much more like mid-January weather, not last day of February. If only we had some snow, the cold wouldn't be too bad. On the other hand, it is sunny and days are getting longer, so it isn't too bad.

Hi Sandy we have had one of the hottest driest summers on record. Fortunately our recent friend Marcia filled most of the dams in S/E Queensland and returned our overall rainfall figures to normal. They are predicting an el nino pattern to start in early winter so we should be starting to think of water restrictions now before it becomes necessary. Cheers Ron.

It's way too hot today in Sydney!

35 degrees celsius or 95 Farenheit!

It's a hot start to Autumn! Hoping this late summer weather brings some evening rain and a cool breeze!

11am: Heading for a top of 30c here in the Gong. Thinking about taking my fistula for a good ol' salt water soaking later today. :)

By noon the clouds were rolling in. It is now 2:52pm, thunder and gloom with a temp now at 23c :(

Should Australia have five seasons?

Some experts believe the model we follow, which comprises four, three-month seasons, has always been unsuited to our continent. "When Europeans arrived in Australia they brought a lot of cultural baggage, including a seasonal system from the temperate Northern Hemisphere," says scientist Dr Tim Entwisle, at Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens.

"cultural baggage"? You mean like our criminals? ;)
Our seasons are very weird too. Things are changing for the whole world I think, maybe it's a pole shift, who knows.
As I mentioned above, we just had our sunniest winter for 90 years. My are we grateful for that. It's great when we get sunshine, otherwise we get very jealous of your sunshine.
Mind, with posts such as from those down under, I'm not sure we would actually want it.
Well, sunny today, very very windy and rain coming in.

So much for the end of summer, a mini heatwave forecast for this week. Temps in the mid thirties expected until the weekend. Global warming scientists are predicting that the range of our tropical cyclones is going to gradually shift south. They think if the current trends continue cyclones may reach as far south as Sydney on a regular basis in a few decades. They were surprised by the strength of Cyclone Marcia, given that its point of origin was not much north of the tropic of Capricorn. High powered storms are normally spawned much closer to the equator . We live in interesting times. Ron.

We had the coolest February in 10 years but overnight temperature were higher than normal.

First day of autumn was 28c.

cold wind today but dry,and the forecast says a warm (21c) Easter AND a hot summer (hot for the UK at least)

Do you remember a couple of years ago they forecast a warm Easter and hot summer and even started some drought warnings? Then it rained pretty much non-stop all the way through March and April. Which led to drought warnings and flood warnings for the same area at the same time, which seems a very British thing.:)

Best thing to do is open the blinds then stick your arm through the window to check the temp.,and if you go out in your t-shirt and sandles,be sure to take your brolly.

I assume by brolly, you mean umbrella.

It is still unseasonably cold here. It is 24F right now. We're (finally) supposed to get snow overnight! I'm excited for it. We've had so little snow, they started talking about droughts here, too. I hope this also doesn't mean we have to wait longer than normal once spring weather finally arrives to plant flowers. Without snow, the ground gets frozen deeper.

Inland Queensland is cooking. Barely a day under 40c in the last fortnight. 45c forecast for Birdsville and many of the western towns today. It is supposed to reach us tomorrow. Not in the 40's thank goodness but 35-38c is on the forecast which is very high for the coast and it will arrive via those horrible gusty nor -westerly winds. You always know when the nor-westers are blowing , everyone seems to get around like a bear with a sore head. Hopefully back to the low thirties by the weekend. We are suffering a legacy from Marcia. Mosquitoes and a serious out break of Ross river fever( one of the viral arthritis family caused by mosquitoes.) Cases have trebled in the past week. Ron.

We got a couple inches of snow this morning!!!! Whoo-hoo! Of course, it is now sunny and even though the temperature is only 25F, the snow is melting in the sun.

36 c yesterday and thru some freak of weather the humidity was at around 75%. Heat and humidity usually don't go togeather, apparently warm air can hold less water than cold air , but nature screwed up yesterday and I felt par boiled by last nigh. A big southerly buster came thru during the night and today is cloudy with 28c. More better! Ron.

Today was our last day of frigid cold for the season, according to the weather forecasters. It should get above freezing tomorrow, and stay that way for a couple of days!

31c today , 32c tomorrow , 33c Wednesday , then back to 31c. Summer can go any time it likes, Ron.

31c today , 32c tomorrow , 33c Wednesday , then back to 31c. Summer can go any time it likes, Ron.

I find anything over 25 or 26 C hot - humidity makes it worse.

Sunny and -11C here today. Looks like it will get up to 6C on Wednesday - we are turning the corner on winter - I hope.

395 centimeters of snow (that's 12.9 feet) so far this winter with the bulk of it since mid January. The record snowfall for a season is just over 427 cm.

Two more cyclones forming. One on the west coast and the other on the north Queensland coast. They expect to name the Qld one on Thursday if it develops as per the model. It is expected to develop just east of Cairns and move down the coast and sit in the coral sea for a while. When it develops it is expected to dump around 800 mm on the Cairns area. Unfortunately the runoff is filled with silt and it really makes a mess on the great barrier reef. Coral polyps don't function well clogged with mud. I hope it does not come down too far. I'm sick of bailing and worrying about flooded roads and all the other stuff that comes with a big blow. Time for some chilly winter westerlies and some night fishing. Ron.

That's worrying news Ron.Let's hope the forecast doesn't stay true as sometimes happens.
Hopefully they are being "over careful" to cover themselves.
It must be soul destroying for you, worrying about it all when you're sick.Fingers X'd.

8-50am,chilly but bright and sunny (and dry !!!)

They are expecting now to name the cyclone up north this morning. The modelling shows it hanging around the Cairns area for a couple of days bringing some heavy rain then moving south east out into the Coral sea and hopefully heading further to the south east. Unfortunately our Pacific neighbours of Fiji and Vanuatu have a monster cyclone on their doorstep this morning. I hope they get thru it with out any serious injuries. Nobody seems too worried about the North Queensland low. You get a feel for them after a while and this one seems pretty benign. Hope I am right, Ron.

Cyclone Nathan is heading for the coast north of Cairns but they think it will do a U turn before it hits and head out to the SE and intensify. Wait and watch at the moment Ron.

Sunny and low-mid 40s. HELLO BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait until the city thaws out so I can start eating lunch outside in the park by my office.

Some damage and flooding on the west coast of Australia. Rain in the cairns area but Nathan is heading out into the coral sea. The big concern is cyclone Pam. It appears to have clobbered Vanuatu as a cat 5 storm. The early reports are of villages ripped to pieces. One so far unconfirmed report is of over 40 deaths in one village. It is a huge storm and is still intensifying and heading for New Zealand. I hope the early reports from Vanuatu are wrong , they are such lovely people and I can only hope there are minimal casualties. Australia is already gearing up to send in aid as soon as the airfields are safe. I hope it quickly gets to those that most need it. Ron.

Some really disturbing images from Vanuatu. The only death toll has come so far from the capital. It could be days before they get to a lot of the islands in the archipelago . Some are only just above sea level and I can only guess at what it would be like in 2-300 kilometre winds. I am not a religious man but if I was I would be on my knees sending prayers their way now. The first Australian aid flights have reached the main island have returned and are reloading.I don't know if they can land again tonight. I do know that there are no working powered facilities at the airport so they may need portable lighting just to land planes. A very serious and sad situation .Ron.

It's certainly looking worse than first suggested, Ron. I so feel for them. Seems many villages have been wiped out entirely, but I'm not sure if the inhabitants reached safety beforehand.

Overcast and colder today, back to winter weather rather than onwards into summer.

Lovely day after a dull start. We've just had a nice walk through the Victorian park across the road.Having lived in the same area all of our lives,it holds many happy memories.
It's been undergoing a £6,000,000 2yr regeneration.But I have to say I'm not impressed.

I swear that for most days over the past few years I have awoken to a uniform white sky. Totally unnatural. It's as though I have a white blind over my window. Today is no different. I hope that it breaks up soon to something far more normal. Cold too.

Can i post late for yesterday? It was gorgeous! The boys were shirtless, the girl in her swimsuit, out most of the afternoon in the yard playing. But this is Colorado. A week ago there were icicles and snow on the ground.

Today looks to be warm again, and I plan to rest out in the yard.
