What is YOUR weather like today??

I am well out of harms way it is usually only the small cyclones that bounce all the way down the coast but I have quite a few friends in the areas in danger. Most people are complying with the evac orders in the areas most likely to be hit by tidal surge. I really feel sorry for the farmers both sugar and bananas take at least tho years to grow or produce fruit so it is a long time between paydays if the crops get flattened. I just hope people listen to warnings and stay safe. Ron.

Debbie is moving slowly towards land . At 8 pm tonight she was upgraded from cat3 to cat4 and may intensify further. It is expected to cross the coast tomorrow morning very close to high tide between Bowen and Ayr. Arlie beach , Prosepine and the Witsunday islands will be on the weather quadrant (SE) of the storm as it comes in and will cop a beating. They are expecting a storm surge predicted to be anything from 2.5 to 3.5 metres as it comes ashore. 25,000 residents of lowlying suburbs have been ordered to evacuate. The storm is expected to move well inland leaving a trail of destruction before it reverts to a rain depression . Some areas are expecting in excess of 500 mm of rain. By ten am tomorrow we should know the worst of the damage if things go as predicted. Ron.

Things are better and worse this morning. The good news if you could call it that, is that Debbie has stalled 75 kliks off the coast. That means that she will not make landfall at the same time as the high tide. The bad news is that the areas involved will be in for a much longer battering. She is still cat 4 and the max winds are estimated to be 260 kph. Unfortunately like most storms the winds are not constant , they have lulls followed by gusts and it is the gusts that do all the damage. There are reports coming in from the Whitsunday islands and airlie beach of damage. The main highways are already cut in places by flood waters and that will only get worse. Mackay to the south is being battered by 8 metre swells. Ron.

Debbie is on land and still at cat three. It was worse than anyone expected. Offshore the resort islands of Hamilton and Hayman were absolutely battered the highest wind gust recorded at 263 kph. It hovered around the islands for hours then around midday it slowly rolled ashore between Bowen and Prosepine and right over the top of Airlie beach. There is a lot of damage. The winds are still at around 160 kph even tho the storm has moved inland. The Govt has asked that people remain in their homes until they have given the all clear probably some time tomorrow. The army and airforce have been mobilised to follow emergency rescue squads into the devastated areas. there is no word on casualties yet. The heaviest rainfall was 460mm in 24hrs. There are trees down everywhere and many roads cut by flooding. Around 50000 people will be without power for around three days minimum. The low is predicted to head south across the state then exit over the sunshine coast where I live and form an east coast low offshore where it will kick up gales and a huge swell. As it passes they expect it to drop 2-300 mm of rain on the coast. They don't think it will reform into a cyclone. Looks like I may spend next weekend bailing. Ron.

So far so good Catherine. Seems like Debbie may make her escape back to sea via the Sunshine coast dropping a lot of rain as she does. We have had a fair bit already in the last couple of weeks and as the holes in the volcanic hill behind me fill up it eventually exits via the back wall of my flat. If we get the amount they predict I may be bailing for most of the weekend. Still that is nothing compared to the destruction up north. I have quite a few friends up there and I really feel for them. Typical Australia either on fire or flooding, Cheers ron.

Reading about in news. See it still cat. 2.

Insurance losses are expected to be huge. Hopefully the people stay safe and follow the warnings.

Be safe yaall. I'm here in Florida weather is beautiful today wish I could get out and enjoy it!! Thinking of yaall. Please be safe😔

I've been watching Debbie on youtube. It was looking serious for those islands. am thinking of you Ron50 with having to bail out your home. Stay safe

They have just issued a general flood alert for every river and creek between Gladstone in central Qld and the qld border. Debbie is being a real menace. Ron.

Over 1000 Schools and 800 child centres are closed in Queensland today. There is wide spread flooding. Our emergency services are doing great job saving people from roofs of houses and roofs of cars.

Stay safe Ron.

G'day Catherine,
The main rain event has not reached us yet , it is still just south of Bundaberg. Despite that the Gold coast hinterland has already received 385 mm of rain overnight and this morning. We had a severe storm and downpour on the Sunshine coast overnight and around 190mm of rain . The main event will reach us around 4.30 this afternoon. I was doing a fair bit of bailing early this morning but it hasn't been too bad since then . I am expecting a marathon effort this afternoon and tonight. They picked up the stranded tourists from Daydream island. They were happy to be ashore. They all said the island will take ages to recover. Ron.

All calm here thank God. Sun trying to come through, not cold any many trees gaining slight green tinges. Tis lovely to see Spring developing.

Stay safe in Aus.

Well that was an unpleasant week. I'm not sure that the state would be in much more of a mess if someone had nuked us. The Prosepine Whitsunday area is a train wreck and just about every river from there to the NSW mid coast is in flood. The damage bill will be in the billions. I have been thru quite a few cyclones including one where the eye of the storm passed right over us but I don't think I have ever seen one as nasty as Debbie. Ron.

Things are still terrible thanks to Debbie. Two women have drowned in separate incidents in northern NSW flooding. The Gold coast is a disaster area following the arrival of floodwaters from the hinterland. Hundreds of homes are underwater. Rockhampton is awaiting the second highest flood peak in it's history since 1954. It has the largest catchment area of any river in Qld and the combined runoff from all of the tributaries will arrive in Rockhampton middle of next week. In Lismore in NSW they are bringing in large pumps. The levees that were supposed to protect the town have turned it into a giant swimming pool and they need the pumps to get it out. It is school holidays in Qld and there is nowhere to go. The seas are massive from the coastal low (yes the remains of Debbie) and full of dirty water and debris. The gold Coast is shut down including all off the theme parks as are all of the tourist destinations to the north. Most schools have kids camps on during these holidays but they are all cancelled. I think everyone is starting to go a little stir crazy. Ron.

Good start here.Washing's on the line and all the windows are open,BUT showers are forecast so I'm keeping a close eye on the clouds.
We don't appreciate just how good UK weather is,most of the time that is.
If we hadn't come to our senses and had second thoughts,my hubby and I would have been living in Australia.

They found the body of a 70 yr old on the Gold coast. Went to check his horses and drowned in flood waters. A bush walker went missing in the gold coast hinterland the first day it rained. That was last Wednesday he has not been seen since. The amount of floodwater that went thru there they may never find him. I think there are another two or three people still missing in Qld and they are not sure in NSW. Then we have to wait till Wednesday for the flood peak in the Fitzroy river to hit Rockhampton. Always an exciting place to be in a flood as the Fitzroy has a healthy population of crocs. Ron.

The saga of Debbie continues. She crossed the Tasman sea and flooded the North island of New Zealand and was last seen heading for South America where it is possible it may cause more havoc. It is undoubtedly one of the most destructive storms the pacific rim has ever seen. Sadly last week the floods claimed a woman and two children when she lost control of her van on a road covered with flood mud and went into the Tweed river. One of her children made it out of the car and swam to shore. Very sad. Rockhampton is still covered by water in several areas. It flooded last Thursday and the water has remained at the same level since then. Ron.

Such a lovely day today, and tomorrow will be the best all this young year. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'm going to be in the garden I think. So much new foliage too. I hope spring is good for all northern hemisphere and that the southern brings you what you need weather wise.

9-20am and 11c already,expecting 17c later but 23c is forecast for London.
Clear blue skies and sunshine so I expect back-yard barbies will be firing up later......temp.has risen 2 degrees in 10mins....:sign0085:...

Now 13c.

Having a couple of days off work , no not fishing, having a colonoscopy on Tuesday.
31c tomorrow , The weather is sunny. Unfortunately they are still finding bodies in creeks as the water levels subside. Well I best get to bed so I can wake up to a breakfast of clear fluids tomorrow, the things we have to do, Ron.

Now you know me,I'm not one to moan......BUT this sudden heatwave is killing me,I can't stand it, nor the thousands of people crowding the park and the coast with their bad manners and noise !!!!
RON....good luck mate.Hope you get good news.

Winter quit early this year and we are heading into a very long spring, and dangerously dry at that. Normally we can crosscountry ski around here for most of April, but now except for a few patches of snow its gone. The forest is tinder dry since we havn't had any rain or snow for over a month. There is very little runoff in the rivers and creeks this year. I'm patiently waiting for some snow or rain.

Cooler than yesterday, but sunny with a bit of a breeze.Kids (other peoples) on Easter break,so we're going out on the bikes before they get out of their beds and clutter the place up.

We were forecasted to receive some rain followed by snow last night with the front, but it was a dry front. Its one of those years where I do the drill. Keep the cat carrier and my photos and discs handy for that quick escape.

I hope you don't need to escape quickly. It amazes me here ,I can understand people getting caught in wildfires they move so fast , but floods ? We get plenty of warning and more than enough opportunity to get out but for some reason folks don't take flood water as seriously as fires. Ron.

Going from Sunny here is Yakima to Thunderstorm in Issaquah tonight.....then florescent lights for a couple weeks....yep hospital.

Beautiful sunny day here so I spent half the day in hospital having a colonoscopy. Gi removed four polyps from four to eleven mm. He has sent them away for biopsy. His gut feeling is that none have cancer but we won't know for a week or so. He had to put 3 staples in to close up the hole left my the big one.I was not happy when my gi put me out to three yearly scopes, I should have know to argue for two years. The new gi has assured me I will never go beyond two years again..Ron.

What better way to spend a sunny day Ron,did you take a pic-nic ?
Seriously though,I hope your results are good, you could do with a break.
And wow, that polyp must have been a doozy.I hope you're resting.

Cool and grey today, what happen to the heat wave I wasn't looking forward to ?

I haven't felt like doing much at all. I started my prep at 6pm last night and finished with the loo by 1100 pm. I had to turn up for the procedure at 7.30 am . That meant getting up at 1.30 am to start round two of the prep. I am stuffed and they are using a prep called moviprep now instead of golytely. It is even more disgusting. I am a bit concerned about the largest polyp. It is almost too big not to have some degree of displaysia . if so I hope they got clear margins..Ps it got down to 7c last night after a 31c day. Ron.

7c eh?....That's sometimes a summers day over here.
Take good care of yourself for a day or two,and please update us with your results.

Bad week. I went to mole scan today. He found one on my chest he thinks is a squamous cell sun cancer. He wants to check it again in 4 weeks. He said because I am taking cyclosporine he will almost certainly biopsy it and drop me to three monthly skin checks. I turned 67 last week ....all future birthdays are cancelled Ron.

Ron mate,if you add up all your health problems so far in your 67yrs,I don't think your latest problem is going to beat you. You're a tough old coot an no mistake.Hopefully they've discovered it soon enough to sort it out.Don't let the bugger get you down.:thumleft:

I bought a new cat carrier yesterday as I need one with an opening on top as its much easier to put her in. There is no way I can push an 18 lb cat through the small door. I do 'the drill' by placing her into the carrier by making a little game out of it so that she becomes comfortable with it.
I keep the cat carrier by my video work and cameras. If I need to evacuate I can just grab the cat and my discs and get out.

Today its a dry tinder box under blue skies. No wind which is good, as its the dry windy days at this time of year I fear most until the leaves come out. The risk goes down once the trees green up shading the forest floor helping to hold moisture.

It was pretty nice here in the Southeastern US today. High was in the 80s (F) and low tonight is in the mid 50s.

Sounds pretty nice sfike! I hope you are well. The weather here is still early spring like. All my little birdies are building nests inside their houses and in the trees too. Very cool to see.

Thanks cmack! I'm doing well for the most part-a little tired, but it could be worse! I have some birds that have made a nest in my garage in the lamp fixture, and it's pretty interesting to watch them, and see them grow.

Couldn't believe how warm it was here in Seattle. Went from hospital to Fisher House where my husband gets to stay. Felt so good to have sun on my face for a little while before my meeting with the anesthesiologist.....oh and then it rained of course after that...it is Seattle and all lol.

Blustery, some sun and scudding clouds,cool.........Forecast for snow in Scotland and maybe north of England (me) over the weekend. The poor birds will be confused.

Tis grey and dull and not too warm today. birds are singing and have paired up now. I see them carrying the twigs in their beaks for their nests. Lovely time of year if only the weather was better.

Ron50, hope all comes back good. Yes, you've battled everything. We're all hopeful for you mate. Good luck.

The snow we were threatened with looks like it dissipated over the Atlantic luckily, but it is cold, blustery and grey.No complaints though, as it usually gets better as soon as folks and kids return to the grind after the hols.

We had some rain this morning lessening the fire risk and are expected to get some snow over the next few days. Spring is a very long progression in these parts, but once we get into summer its well worth the wait.

Enjoy your trip D., Ron,how you doin' fellow weather whinger ? I saw that tragic report regarding the shark attack in Esperance.I had a bad moment, as our son and family are camping there and there is a 17 year old girl in the party. It must have been horrific for her poor dad to see.

Sunny here, but a really cold breeze off the sea.A few miles on the bike warmed me up though.

Yes Carol,
Her dad was with her and brought her back to shore. Unfortunately her Mum and sisters were witness to the whole event . She had horrific injuries . That is the third fatal attack in the district in a year. I don't know what the answer is. You can't stop people using the water and you can't kill all the sharks. Ron.

\not too cold and sun came out later. Cold at night though but I did see a couple of hedgehogs feeding at 3 am this morning, they braved -4C so I put more food out.

Hmmm , begs the question as to why you were out in the garden at 3am at -4c. I hope you were well rugged up. Ron.

Silly...she was out in the garden at 3am because she's .....Spooky ;)...:shifty:

Warmer but cloudy today.Good cycling weather, so off I go.

How do you tell a happy cyclist ? By the dead flies on their teeth.:D

Was on and off loo. Lol. Tis grey and cold out at the moment. I'm hoping it will cheer up later.

It was lovely up here yesterday D., It's nice today but windy.I have cast off my vest and thick tights (pantyhose) permanently, after a couple of false starts.

But I bet you haven't.

Thermals still in tact unfortunately. Still got the fluffy bedding on. Not one bit of sunshine today, tis a total white out. I do hate these days. I'm envious of the nicer weather you have up there.

It rained during the night and the present sunshine is struggling with the clouds.6c so far.
Snow and storms are forecast, but hopefully it will be fleeting. It's May soon and the poor birds and wildlife will suffer.

It is almost pleasant, a week of 18-26c. A little rain but mainly at night and constant strong southerly winds, Ron.

Pathology back on my scope . All benign tubular adenomas , even the largest one. Looks like I survive a while longer. Thanks to all for caring , Ron.

Second day of freezing rain. Schools, government offices etc. all closed. Train derailment yesterday, probably due to ice. It's like a skating rink out there. My lilacs were in bud, now covered in ice. So is the rest of the city. I hope the power doesn't go out.

Good gracious, that's bad.Does your winter usually last so long ?

Not a bad start here.6c and sunny, but ominous dark clouds are gathering.

We've never had anything like this!! Today, a little snow. Tomorrow +10C, so it should go back to normal soon. We already had Mallards and Robins, I hope the poor things didn't all freeze to death.

I'm worried about the wildlife too. It's been colder than it should be and wet and windy. But not as bad as you're getting. At least it's almost May and not November,so there's hope.

Rain showers off and on 7c. No leaves yet.

Cold (ish) and grey.We have leaves in abundance and not all the trees are bursting forth yet. There are bluebells in the woods and lambs in the fields.
And we saw two gosling hatchlings while cycling the other day.I just wish it would warm up a wee bit.15c would be good.I start whinging anything higher.:cool2:

In August, we get +40C, I guess you wouldn't like that too much.

Oh no.I couldn't cope with that.I have spent time in Australia with our son,at that temp. and above.Hated it.And it was the worst / weirdest Chrismas in my life.I mean who goes to see xmas lights and parades wearing shorts and sandals ?
Temp. today up to 12c but still overcaste,or white sky as Spooky calls it.

P.S. I didn't moan about the Aus.heat while I was there.I didn't want a "whinging Pom" label

I know what you mean. When I lived in Hawaii it was too weird to see Santa in shorts and just needed to be back by snow or at least cold during the Christmas season for sure.

+7C today. The snow and ice pretty much melted. Freezing rain and snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. But it's May!?! Two Robins in the yard, so I guess the birds found hiding places.
