What is YOUR weather like today??

They can do amazing things for the heart these days compared to even 25 years ago, many today can live a far better life. 15 cloudy with a flurry. I don't miss those black bear at all. During summer nights when they come around I can tell how big they are by how far apart their eye balls are when they reflect off of my flashlight beam. As long as I am doing this from the safety inside the house its okay.

31c and high humidity. You can keep your bears Buff. I've got no chance of outrunning one and even less chance of fighting one. Only way I could win is if it choked on me. The only things likely to dine on you in Australia are sharks and crocs , easy to avoid. Lots of other nasties but they don't eat you , just suck on you for a while then you die. There is a couple of lows forming in the monsoon trough out in the coral sea that may turn into cyclones over the weekend. The pacific ring of fire is ramping up with increasing eruptions in bali , new guinea and the p'pines. they also think there has been an underwater eruption between New Zealand and Australia.. Ron.

In the 40s today

I have been watching the volcanic events unfolding in that part of the world. They expect it to be a year of geologic events. Seems every country has its nasties. Here we deal with wildlife issues with bear, but we also have wild fires, tornadoes, and all kinds of parasitic bugs including deer ticks that carry Lyme's disease. One of the reasons why I enjoy winter when its generally quiet and gentle despite the cold. I also like the long evenings in winter that come with early sunsets. I find the day painfully long in summer when there are more than 16 hours of daylight.

I feel the same about long summer days.At this time of year I'm happy to relax by mid afternoon. But in summer I feel as though I should be out and about, even though I've already been out and about,or doing something meaningful.I also wake earlier, which of course makes the days longer still.Last night I slept for 11hrs ( thankyou Amitriptilyne)
I'm in hibernation mode, but I feel so guilty.
Enjoyed a 2hr cycle along the coast,to work some xmas chocolate off. It's been a pleasant day.Even got some washing dry outdoors.

What's all this about not loving long, light and drawn out evenings of Summer? Are you lot mad?!!! I closed my curtains at 4.50pm today. I have been counting down the days of horrid January. Not long to go now. Noticed some snowdrops and a few yellow crocus up in the village. Why are yellow always the first to come out? Not even shoots of my crocus yet.

I too note the uptick in volcanic activity and the earthquakes, not to mention the continually broken weather temperatures for colds and hot days. We are in times of change.

Diane,I knew as I was posting that you'd have a fit re: light nights, and I was right. It's not to say I don't love spring/early summer, it's just that the days are soooo long and I get bored. We saw snowdrops yesterday, and crocus, although not in flower.Daffs are about 2/3 ins along the verges........3c and dull today.

Sunny weather again today. I feel i'm being spoilt. I haven't seen daffs out yet but i'm awaiting my first. Got a whole crop planted so hopefully my garden will be as yellow as the sun soon. Not complaining about this weather though.

Hot and humid again today. It was Australia day. Sure to be a lot of sore red bodies tomorrow. Nothing like a belly full of beer ,no shirt and a blazing sun. They are expecting to name the first east coast cyclone tomorrow. It is expected to head east not west so the only people to notice it will be the surfers. Ron.

What's all this about not loving long, light and drawn out evenings of Summer? Are you lot mad?!!!

No I am not mad, rather I'm weak and tired. When I was young I embraced the long days of summer. Decades of Crohn's and along with age, I appreciate an early sunset, and a long evening to relax in peace where I no longer have anymore commitments to the day.

-5 with a breeze and after a warm day yesterday when it rose above freezing its going to become more seasonal again. I wanted to use the remote cabin, but its going to take some work preparing more firewood for the place. Cross country skiing and coming back to the house is much more appealing at the moment.

Some heavy rain overnight but not prolonged. Hot and humid , partly sunny but lots of towering black and white cumulous clouds. I think we will be into storms by mid day. Ron.

The sun is back and it's certainly not what I call cold. Closing my curtains and putting lights on at 4.50pm. Things are only going to get better. Just a few more days of January. Wow, I feel better already. Can't stand January.

Too gusty for bikes, so went for a walk and I actually had to unzip my coat. It's 13c now at 4-15pn and just getting dark.I almost opened the windows this morning.I love the windows open, but we'll just take it one step at a time......

Weird weather, very active monsoon trough to the north , years first cyclone to the east and heading for New Zealand. Getting up to 33c on Wednesday then dropping to 23 c by Friday. Some light rain at night. Ron.

I was looking for the ark it was raining so hard on my drive to the hospital to see my daughter. Pray she doesn't deliver Kayden too early.

Hope all is going well, Jane. Good luck to your daughter through birth.

Sunny this morning, but a hard frost. It's going to be colder this week, but at least there's only tomorrow left of January. Then it's wonderful February. The earliest flowers will be out around gardens and the lanes I drive and I shall be happier to know that March is on its way.

5c and so-so.Not sure how it's going to turn out.
Buff,I cook cheap wholemeal pasta a couple of times a week for our birds, the bigger ones, and toss it in oil.Hubby never leaves his as I'm a good cook,he says, and not a crohnie.

I hope its all going well GI Jane. -28 and expecting snow later on. Lots of lynx track along the ski trail. They are doing well with all the rabbits, and there is one with 2 kittens. They are a lot like oversized house cats, and they appear to enjoy winter as much as I do. End of January, time flies.

The temperature is expected to drop off tonight... hard to say how much, currently at -1C. It's a clear sky tonight and I'm looking at the larger than usual moon, it's quite bright actually.

I sure wish I could see those kittens Bufford, or even just seeing the tracks in the woods would delight me. I live in the mountains and I have never seen a wild lynx in my life. I have been told by the old timers that they are here though.

3c and lots of blue sky and sunshine.......Buff,there was talk a couple of years ago about releasing some Lynx into to wilds of Scotland. They were a native breed as were wolves etc.But of course were slaughtered for fun and wiped out a century ago.Britain is a small island as you know, and there was uproar from the farming community and the grouse hunting estates in Scotland,so it looks like it's on hold for now. There was an program on TV at the weekend telling us that they're now "culling" mountain hare BECAUSE they carry ticks and infect the grouse, for which they charge the rich and famous thousands of pounds to shoot.Load of cobblers !!!

I agree with you, Carol. They should not be killing the hares as deer and other animals carry ticks just as much. Must hasten to add that many, many hedgies also have ticks. Sometimes so many that they need to go to the vet or else succumb to the anaemia.

Those kittens sound adorable. Did I see something on WinterWatch about the Scottish cats? i'm sure I did.

Trying to cheer up here. But started with grey skies, drizzle and a very cold squally wind.

Let's not forget, it's February tomorrow. Good bye January.

Would love to see Lynx too. Seen a mountain lion and bear in the woods when I worked in them, but nothing on the regular. My poor baby has four boxes and five bags on her IV poll. BP under control but blood sugar not. Still hoping for at least two more weeks before he arrives. Excited to see the blue super moon tonight!

That would be cool to see that moon. Still praying, Jane

Hoping to see the Blue moon from here tonight too.The skies have been clear for a few nights and it's been visible from our kitchen.Knowing our luck it will cloud over.
Hope that babe stays insitue for as long as he can Jane. You must dread the phone ringing.fingers x'd.

We have the same problem, the more they mess up nature the more the environment suffers. When I was younger we had rich forests full of wildlife. Moose were common, and often walked up the driveway. That all changed when clear cut logging came through. Replanting isn't all what its cracked up to be. Its not environmentally friendly when all they plant are pine trees and spruce. They do it because the forest industry wants them, but they are not what would normally grow.

The forests were once mixed species which creates both food sources and cover. But with the food source now gone, there is little for the forest animals to feed on. Basically these cut overs become tree farms and little can live in them.

Gosh, Jane, I've been awaiting news on your new arrival. Hadn't realised your daughter has a few issues with this pregnancy. Still hoping all goes well for her. Nerve Wracking time for you. Praying for mum and babe.

The sun has come out and it's looking lovely whilst indoors. Have been out and it's cold in that swirling wind. Saw more clusters of snowdrops along the lanes.

Goodbye January! I hope to soon see the snow melting faster and the snowdrops start flowering. Still a while to go yet, but that's okay, I'm seeing the weather improve bit by bit every week now.

Well the weather here is cold in this hospital room because my daughter is running so hot lol. She is doing better yea, thank you Jesus!! All IV's are finally disconnected right now so yea.

2c with a chill wind, but sunny.Chris,we have snowdrops already. They really lift the spirit.
Also,a skein of geese passed overhead yesterday, that makes my heart soar, geese and swans, with their slow wooshy wing beats.Saw the moon OK,but really, although beautiful,it just looked as usual.

Sunny again and I got to see lots more in the way of clusters of snowdrops. I don't seem to have one crocus appearing this year. Strange.

Glad all is well with your daughter, Jane. Let's keep praying.

It's here, February, yeah, at last.

-23 blustery sunny day. I missed the lunar event, slept right through it, but I did see the big super moon. It lit up the winter night, I am always amazed by nature and her beauty. Glad to hear that things are going well Jane.

7c with a really chill wind, def.not summer here, although I have seen a couple of cyclists and postmen wearing shorts today.....maybe their long ones were in the wash.

Have been over the road now, and omg, it's freezing out. I have 3 crocus out too and one of my nemesia still has flowers on. Others are also stating they have flowers out that should not come out until April. Weird.

-28 Definitely not summer here yet, but I will take winter over the summer. Its hard to go skiing in summer, and even if we did, one would get eaten alive by the biting flies. Winter for me is a time out from the intensity of summer, and all the work it takes to keep the place standing. I fully understand that winter is not all that pleasant for many especially in urban areas, but we are all different and that is good for variety is the spice of life.
Going skiing later.

3c and raining. Not going out today.I'm not really a summer person, but it has to come so will have to tolerate it.I love spring when everything is green and fresh and the birds are singing, and I love autumn because the summer's over.I couldn't book a holiday to hot climates and lie about in the sun all day.It would drive me potty.Lots of Brits go to Spain,or Greece or Portugal etc. to do just that, and drink copious amounts of cheap booze at night.I get frazzled if it get's over 18c,and my drinking days are well over.

Well, I had noticed a distinct chill in the air last night. Today we had the white fluffy stuff coming down. I'm staying in and both cats are too. Lots of birds today as they try and stay warm. They have the fat balls, suet pellets, mealworms and bird food too. I think they're trying to stay warm. Roll on Summer, lol.

-28 Very motivational at the outhouse early before the sun shines. Put needed log into furnace, quick walk in slippers with barefeet 25 meters to the outhouse in a heavy housecoat and empty the colostomy bag. Done in a minute, back to the house. Probably the best cardio therapy one can get. It also stimulates both the bowel and metabolism. Life is more than possible with a colostomy with creativity and some humor. They are messy, so I have the outside box while my cat has the indoor box.

Wind chill warnings here in Minnesota and about three inches of snow came down in Minneapolis. Hope our Super Bowl visitors stay warm!

1c and dry, so bike ride on the menu.Have just seen a news flash warning of the coldest week of the winter this coming week. But Buff, and I really did laugh out loud,if you can battle the elements with humour, then I'm not going to complain.......yet.

Not very happy at the moment. I had the same cardiologist that I had last time. He prodded and poked me for two years before giving me a prognosis"" If it hasn't killed you yet, it probably won't " . Two years on he admits that I now have atrial flutter and atrial fib. He is still not going to treat me until I have another Holter monitor 24 hr test ,a one week event monitor test and another echo cardiograph. He is not my favourite doctor. He expects me to know when I am having a/flutter and a/fib as well as palpitations. I have some sort of chest pain nearly all the time and I have no idea of the significance of each pain. I'm starting to wish that I did not go to the doctor last month and especially not to ER.. I've had over 25 years of garbage health. The doctors may have removed my cancer but they certainly did not improve my health ,only made it worse with their protocol of LETS TRY. If I fixed sewing machines like they fix people ,I'd be tarred and feathered and run out of town by an angry mob of women. Sorry about the rant, We were told that there would be no rain just some drizzle over the past week. Some areas here have had nearly 200 mm and it is still raining. Ron.

-30 under blue cobalt skies with bright but Warm sunshine. I just made the outhouse trip; for a minute I simply stood out and took in a big breath of that clean arctic air, fluid almost like a drink, while the sun beamed warmth upon my back. These are the moments I cherish, mother nature and her great contrasts & beauty. I wonder if it helps my immune system, but it sure lifts me spirits.
Ron I hope your situation and the weather improves, its good to rant and get it out of one's system, holding it in does not help.

I agree with Buff.Ron....as my old dad used to say "It's better out than in" ...he was referring to a certain bodily function, but it applies to giving vent and having a whinge too.
I know you're feeling crappy, but you've done so well so far,so try not to let it beat you.Tomorrow is another day,and we're always here to listen and support.

I agree, we should let our frustrations out here, much less lingering stress that way. Sorry to hear of the doctor troubles Ron50, I hope you manage to find some health benefits from putting up with him. Sunny, snowing steady, and-10C here.

It was fairly clear and sunny at first while snowing this morning, very odd, almost like rain on a sunny day. (yes it is a good song ;)...) At present, our valley is roughly -8C, we have become very socked in as the day has progressed.

It's going to keep snowing, how much I'm not sure. There have been six inches of white stuff +PLUS+ so far. Right now I'm reading nearly 80 percent humidity outside, not too sure if this number is wonky or what.

Started at 1c but dropped to zero a minute ago. It's supposed to be a very cold week and there has been snow and the usual road traffic mayhem in the south during rush hour.
Still dry here but cloudy.

Lovely and sunny, but freezing out. Not that i should complain. Look what Cmack and Buff have to put up with! My car was not frosted over at 6 am but at 9 am it was. Heating is definitely on.

Bufford, cats always have it good, better than us actually. The spoilt sods.

Ron50. Hope all gets better soon.

-22 and sunny. I have always like winter more than any other season. Now in retirement I like winter more so as I don't have to leave the comfort of my house if I don't want to. I don't miss those awful cold dark mornings having to drive to work in the dark, and coming home to a cold house spending the better part of the evening stoking the fire to get the place warm again.

The temperature is currently -7C and we accumulated roughly eight or nine inches of snow yesterday. It's hard to be sure exactly how much snow we did get due to the multitudes of snowdrifts that were formed.

0c and snowing. It's the wet stuff but is starting to lie.Supposed to drift off over the sea by this afternoon....my hubby enjoys being retired and is happy HE doesn't have to go out early and come home late in winter. We were self employed,so he rarely took a day off.I spent a lot of time alone, but at least he came home to a warm house and a home cooked meal.Trouble is now,he just HAS to be doing stuff. He never sits down until mid afternoon in winter and early evening in summer.I don't know what he does but he's usually in the shed with the rest of the clutter I don't want in the house.

chatting to Shedward I would have thought, Carol. Men are so funny aren't they! I always consider them a peculiar species. Mind, I think Ron50 is anti retirement because he wouldn't know what to do with himself. The sun has been out and no snow now.

Snow's gone and streets are clear for now.Not much change in the weather for the rest of the week. The blue tits are very busy stuffing their faces and the gulls are guarding the nesting site and chasing last years youngsters away, thankfully. There'll be hell on if they're still hanging around at nesting time.they don't usually nest until March/April and the chicks stay in the nest until July/August.Maybe they sense fine weather is on the way ?

-28 blazing sunshine. Went skiing yesterday and found myself in slush on the lake at the far end of the ski trail deep into the forest. Not good at -18. I had to spend time scrapping off the ice from the base of the skis with the backside of a knife, or else the skis are like leaden rails and good for nothing. Without skis I am helpless as there is no support in the snow and I would be up to my waist trying to walk 3 and a half kilometers home.
It does not happen often, but I am always glad once the skis are back on and I can go forward again.
Came home and cooked up some salmon in the pressure cooker and enjoyed the winter evening.

Currently -7.5C and dropping. Nice day today, I was breathing crisp mountain air while stacking firewood and clearing the snow after lunch. The sun continues to be warmer during the day, today it was a high of -3 after starting with a low of -15 ish this morning.

Woke up at 3am this morning. The room was spinning wildly. Lucky I have a have a rubbish bucket beside the bed. I called the ambulance at 6.00 am and spent another day in hospital with a full on vertigo attack. They let me out at five this afternoon full of Zofran and stemetil . Very unpleasant, Ron.

That's both you and Buff having scarey episodes.I think things are so much worse when you're alone.Glad you both got sorted, for now anyway.

Started at minus 3c but warming up nicely to -2.......Blue skies and bright sun-shine.

Bright blue skies, sun out, bloody chilly still, but nothing to complain about in comparison to those such as Buff and Ron50. I'm thinking of you both. My older sister gets vestibular migraine but without the pain. She can't move her head or body otherwise she's sick. This is occasional with her though. Recover quick Ron.

-28 bright sunshine, Ron I hope your health is going to start improving its been a long haul, retirement went a long ways to improve my health by taking the load off of my body. Its more than enough just to keep the house standing, a full time job in itself.

Retirement is a cake walk when compared to the rest of life, fighting the Crohn's, trying to keep up with expectations at work. I felt like the three legged hamster running on the wheel, and nobody not even my family understands life with chronic illness.

It has been mid 20,s all week heading for 36c on Sunday and Monday. Well into the 40's in the southern states. They have issued health warnings for heat stress,Ron.

The sun showed up this afternoon and it feels mild (ish) It's after 4-15pm and the sun is still shining, although it will be gone in another fifteen minutes.Wet and windy tomorrow.

33c today then 36 for the next few days. Ill probably head to the mall for the air con.Ron.

-24 Clear and quiet. The days roll on, each one quite similar to the last. Its been dry and cold, but the sun is very warm during the day, I have to let the fire die down to almost nothing or the house gets too warm. Good weather to go skiing or for doing any kind of winter activity.

Boringly dull and 9c but feels colder.I wonder if our winter, such as it is,is over?
We've had a little bit snow this year, but a lot more than we've had for the last 3-4yrs.though it only stayed on the ground for a few hours at a time here.
Because the days are getting longer I'm feeling a little bit excited as I look forward to Springtime and all that it brings. At least we're on the right side of xmas and not the start of November. You have to be optimistic eh ?

I am looking forward to spring. :)

Buff, some of our days recently allow for feeling the warmth of the sun, but only when sheltered from the bitter winds.

Raining all day and was a really chilly wind. Supposed to be staying bad all week. Yuk, but have driven around the lanes again and lots of spring flowers. I have bought myself bunches of daffodils to encourage me into Spring.

Clear blue sky and sunshine,2c.so far. Can't decide whether to walk down to the weekend market or cycle to the Marina.I think the bikes are favourite though.I can't be doing with crowds and would rather freeze my butt off on little blackie than fight my way through the great unwashed (and ill mannered):ymad:

RON...Scott's been on the phone and he's suffering in the heat north of Kalgoorlie. The air con is not coping.:cool2:

Yes Carol the whole country is under heatwave conditions. The heat tonight is diabolical and there is no relief in sight for the next week. We had two storms thru tonight and both were dry electrical. I haven't been good since the last vertigo attack. I have been taking anti-dizzy pills every day trying to stave off another attack. Ron.
