What is YOUR weather like today??

Bloody freezing with hailstones. You'd like this weather Ron50. Cycling? omg, honestly, Carol. You're game aren't you?

Honestly D., I thoroughly enjoyed it.It's still fine and sunny and 4c.But the wind is getting gusty and strong so glad to be home with the sunday papers and the heating on.

-18 Partly cloudy with a passing flurry. I have to be thankful for the winter weather we get here, at least we get full winter. I would find it very difficult to live in places where the snow does not last with the constant freezing and melting. Yesterday I skied the main trail, the lake appears to be solid again but I didn't chance it. Maybe today unless something else comes up. Never know around here as the neighbor may call and suggest ice fishing or a snowmobile ride.

Strange that our weather forecasters have not commented on a cat5 cyclone heading straight for us. It is about to hit Tonga big time and if it maintains its current course it could well hit the east coast around Brisbane. All the met guys could say is that we may have a heavy swell by the weekend. If it was cat one or two I could appreciate their lack of worry but some overseas predictors believe that there could be two storms in line and that they have the potential for a lot of damage. Ron.

-26 Fresh day, sunny and breezy. Fueled up the wood furnace went out to the outhouse and was wide awake for breakfast before the first coffee. Ron on the news last night they were showing the storm damage and flooding going on in your country.

The sun finally came out yea and helped my mood. My poor grandson is still in the NICU but doing better. Please keep in prayers for Kayden. It's really hard obviously for my daughter Kelsey having to leave him each night. I'm with her and driving back and forth so it helps to have someone at least and so glad to be able to be here for her. He had dropped some weight and back under glow lights so please pray.

Weather seems to have taken a dip these past few weeks, around the end of January conditions were good enough for me to ride the motorbike to work but it seems to have gotten colder again, I won't go near the bike if I see iced over puddles outside!

It's rain mixed with snow at the moment here, about 2-3C.

The daylight lasting a bit longer is a welcome change though, I think it does wonders for well-being with it no longer being pitch black leaving the house in the morning and finishing work.

Grotty weather here. Heavy showers and no sun. It's cold too.

Ron50, I've seen plenty of that cat5 cyclone on the internet. It is strange your met people aren't concerned. Unless of course they know different and don't wish to worry people. Does seem strange though.

@Jane, good luck and i'll keep praying. Your daughter is probably so grateful for your help. Tough time for her.

Erk, I too appreciate the lighter afternoons. I so need that sunshine, it just makes the whole day a lot better.

Hi Dianne , the met guys updated gitas progress today > It made a real mess of Tonga and was side swiping Fiji. Fortunately for us there is a large pool of relative ly cooler water off the coast and it is expected to deflect Gita southward in the next couple of days and head it towards NZ. The gold coasters will appreciate it missing them as the comm games starts there in early April, it would have really messed with some of their plans. Some of the early games visitors should get to see some epic surfing over next weekend . They reckon the swell will be huge. Ron. Still heatwave conditions for another 5-7 days.

-15 windy with passing flurries. Its going to warm up a tad for the next couple of days. There is a nasty Jack pine about 50 feet tall that is crackling near the stump with the wind. Time for me to drop it before it decides to target the cabin. There is always something coming up.

Welcome, Danibee, at least someone has some decent weather. Post some over, please.

@Ron50, pleased it's going to be deflected. I saw the damage Gita caused in Tonga. Shame you can't get in some of that surf, it might be cooling.

@Buff, when was the last time you felled a 50ft tree? Gently does it. Hope all goes well.

@Spooky1

9-30 am and +1c and cloudy.Going to warm up to a balmy 5c with wintry showers later.
I have a stick on heat patch on my lower back and it's lush.Might have to buy in bulk for the rest of me.(and the winter)....Welcome Danibee.

We reached just over 37c today and the humidity was a lot higher than you expect with those temps. They are talking 35 + tomorrow. I have to go and have a hearing test tomorrow to check for menieres disease. Hearing tests don't seem to work for me. I have had tinnitus for 30 years and I constantly have a full feeling in my ears like I have glue ear. Trouble is as a 54 yr mechanic I feel vibrations rather than sounds. I pass hearing tests easily although I am deaf as a post. Ron.

Grotty again, and a really bad chill wind too. Staying in today.

@Carol, what are these pain pads called? and can I shove one on my neck as well as back?

@Ron50, my balance is dreadful and my hearing seems to be ok but I can't tell whether the cat is meowing to go out the front door or back door. I just misinterpret where the noise is coming from. Good luck with yours.

My hubby is deaf and even with his aids in it's like comic cuts having a conversation with him.I amazes me what he THINKS he hears me saying. I have the patience of a saint,I'm not kidding. The tinnitus must drive you mad Ron,or have you learned to live with it,like everything else ?:medal1:

Yes Diane, you can stick 'em any where (within reason) Mine are Deep Heat but there is a good selection to choose from. There are two patches in a pack and each one lasts 16+ hrs.Boots sell them.

-8 Today appears to be a good day to drop that tree. I dropped a big one last fall that was a dangerous widow maker which became good firewood. I have cut down many big ones in my lifetime, but as I get older I have a lot of respect and some fear for them as sometimes they are unpredictable. When I was young I was a lumber jack on my wood lot. Finally did that fuel run yesterday bringing home 400 liters of regular, and treated myself to chinese food for a change.

I tend to just ignore the chronic problems Carol. If you go into the Australian bush anytime in Summer you hear millions of cicadas. I just have them with me everywhere I go. My biggest problem is hearing anyone on the phone particularly when I am at the shops or at a café where there is lots of background noise. I am over the heat. They say it is one of the worst heatwaves we have had because it covers so much territory. Out west at Windorah they have not been under 40c for over a week and some days up to 45c. Ron.

5c and sunny with a gentle breeze that might turn nasty later. But I've got the laundered bedding on the washing lines Yay !!! It doesn't take much to please me.

-10 cloudy. Held off from felling the tree, its too risky given that its hollow and cracked making it very unpredictable with the cabin on one side and the powerhouse on the other. I will have to put a hand winch on it and pull on it until I can get it to lean, and its better if I can get some assistance with the neighbor. I've learned (the hard way too) to never underestimate hollow or fractured trees. The best way is to cable them up and pull them with the ATV to guide the fall.

I'm glad you're not going to attempt the tree on your own Buff........like you say,too risky.

Managed a couple of hours on the bike today, but it was a struggle against the wind, and bl++dy cold too.

Buff you have just described most of my days. I agree with you with the tree.I used to have a 3 1/2 ton Tirfor hand winch for guiding tree felling. I used to pretension the tree and have another heavy (long ) rope to by old Nissan patrol. We mostly cleared eucalypts near houses. In really hot weather the sap expands and literally blows limbs off the trees. You always had to check before you dropped one to make sure there was no koalas up them. Ron. Hot again today 33c and 24c overnight.

We have another sunny sky today, and not too cold again either. Whoopeee, it's not quite Summer-like yet, RonRoush, but I feel we are heading, at last, into Spring.

7c and lovely.Have been into town for more cannabinoid oil.Special offer at £9-99p so got two. It's a good make from Holland and much cheaper than the £39-99p I paid when I first tried it.Watch this space, again !!!
Also Buff.I'm a great believer in doing what your body dictates,so If you need to relax, then do so.It's ok pushing yourself when fit and young and healthy.I think both you and Ron do remarkably well under the circumstances.

I've been trying cbd for a week now. Think it might be helping but the arthritis in the neck is no better at the moment. But I think i'm sleeping better. What strength is it please Carol, and make please. Good luck to you, and me. Obviously great minds think alike. I'm hopeful.

I've been using the icy hot or Tiger Balm on my neck to help with pain as I have had major surgery putting an implant in my spine C3-C7. Also laying back in a really hot tub full of epsom salt and baking soda. They make the fancy ones now but you can buy the plain ones in bigger boxes for cheap. I put a drop or two of lavender or eclipses just for calming.

How's your grandchild and daughter Jane ?

I've also just bought Tiger Balm. The trouble is when you use multiple remedies it's difficul to know what's working.

It's 2: 25% which is prob. the lowest on the uk market just now.The 10ml bottle holds about 240 drops. The Holland & Barrett one I got today is made by Jacob Hooy in the Netherlands but just says CBD oil on the front of the label.I think you can get higher strength but prob.not yet.Let's know if you find a difference and I will do the same in about a week.:ghug:

He's holding his own. They did a scary blood test yesterday because the last one was a little off regarding his heart. Dr said pretty sure nothing wrong but has to test again. So holding breath for 48 hours when results come back. Still too tired to eat normally, falls asleep 1/3 to 1/2 way through so has to have the rest lavaged. Guess it's pretty hard for premies to think swallow and breath so stops breathing sometimes still just to scare us with the alarms going off...odd I'm having a little flare up right now right lol.

State of health has an influence upon my confidence levels. While I have grown wise to the hazards found in the forest with age, but when I am already feeling weak, and then my body gets a pounding from riding the snowmobile, I tend to back down from my expectations and plans for the day, particularly for anything risky or difficult.

I too use medical cannabis and find that it makes a positive difference, and reduces my requirements for those chemical drugs that chew on the body's internal organs.

I might buy some of those, Scottsma. I've got the high dose 1,500mg one lol. I tend to go over the top with things, even thinking.

I should be bold and try the medical marijuana, Buff. I haven't yet.

Gi, nice to hear about the baby. I think i'd be having a flare up with nerves for daughter and baby. It has to be stressful watching with all the tubes, tests and alarms. It is worrying for both of you. You're doing a great job for him and your daughter. That has to be praised and i'm still praying for him to gain strength.

All the same wonderful people are here, plus a lot of new ones ! Weather here in Arizona is great ! I will read some posts tomorrow on my computer where the print is bigger. Wishing you a good day / night. Lynda

They are growing it in Australia for sale overseas but as yet they have not formulated the legislation for it to be sold locally. Knowing our pollies it will take another twenty years. We have had some dreadful storms the last couple of nights . Lots of wind rain and lightning. The beaches are being hit by huge swells from Gita (which has not yet turned south) there is another cyclone on the west coast around the Kimberly. One of the long range forecasters has suggested another cyclone will hit the east coast in a couple of weeks time. Birdsville , out west of us had their sixth day at 45 c today. I'm surprised the Birdsville pub has not run out of beer. Ron.

-10 flurries. had a good ski yesterday, the trails are in good shape. I have to go easy with my knees, I wonder if I am wearing them out on the trail. Skiing becomes almost an addiction, anticipating the afternoon ski, picking out the wax and the music I will play on the headphones. Its a whole other world out back.

Can't beat the simple pleasures in life.It would be awful if your knees stopped you from ski-ing.Plenty goose fat or some other embrocation, that's what you need.
Got up to 8c today with a slight breeze.Walked down to the weekend market and back, and NO,the heating pad on my back did NOT stop the backache. It was warming though.

Hi. I live in Arizona ( USA ) and today the weather is great and partly cloudy. In the summertime it reaches temperatures of up to 119 degrees here, so I am enjoying my day today. Wishing you the best. Lynda.

Foggy this morning, has lifted now but it's grey and bleak out. Have a few more crocus out now and the daffs are gaining height.

I don't think many prescribe it Carol. Have not got the courage to go the illegal route though.

Not sure if the goose grease would help, this body of mine is pretty worn out. Kind of like an old truck, when the door slams there's that sound of falling rust. Starts up okay but with lots of blue smoke and takes a long time to warm up or it will stall when put in gear too soon. Doesn't take the bumps too good. No exhaust, running straight off the engine manifold, the doctor/ mechanic chopped it off long ago. But hey it still starts and runs each day!

Wow snowing, normally like but these crazy people over hear don't know how to drive on tiny flaked roads lol.

It must be a world wide epidemic, because we have them here and we usually get a thin covering of snow that disappears in 24hrs.I don't know what their excuse is the rest of the time though.

Mild 7c but wet.

Most Australians have never seen a real snowflake . I would hate to see them turned loose in real snow country. I travelled thru quite a bit of snow once when I lived in Canberra and barely survived. Snow and I do not get on well. Ron.

Perhaps its because we are both on the oposite sides of the planet but I wouldn't do well in your hot climate unless I have reliable airconditioning. I can take the cold very well, enjoy a variety of winter activities, but having said that I need a warm house. It takes 5 - 7 bush cords to heat the place depending on the winter. As the saying goes wood warms a person twice, from the effort of cutting it, and the high quality heat it delivers.

Yep Bufford, it warms me twice, just not while I'm gathering it from the shed. -26.5c and clear, currently enjoying the wood heat here too. There's nothing else quite like it on a day like today.

Agree with cmack.....ccccccold.....some snow still here and there....I would love Australia I love the heat....where people complained about being stationed in Afghanistan....I soaked it all in.....yep so why do I live in the Pacific NW again....oh ya family sigh.

I love the sun, and talking of that thing, it's shining straight in my window at the moment. However, it's still very wet out after heavier rain this morning.

Hope the baby is doing well, Jane.

-18 Snowing. I enjoy wood heat, the only part of it I dislike is piling wood, and having to bring it into the house. Its the bending over and lifting part, which is harder when one lives with the bag. So far I have burned close to 6 cords and less than 40 liters of furnace oil.
I also love the sun, especially now with it shining earlier in the mornings.

Cyclone Gita made a good run at the east coast, huge swell for a week with more broken surf boards and rescues than I have seen for years. It finally did a dog leg south and is causing New Zealand some problems. Good riddance it certainly did some damage out around Tonga. Ron.

I hate to say it is 61 degrees and partly cloudy here when so much bad weather for all the posts above mine. But we pay the price here in Arizona during our summertime with temperatures of sometimes 119 degrees ( often hotter here in the summertime in Arizona than in Death Valley, California. ) Lynda.

Well, here comes the Beast from the East. I have two daffodils almost out and the big chill is about to hit. It is noticeably colder out today. Grey and no rain.

five minutes ago there was a lovely clear blue sky, but now clouds are building up fast so not sure how the day will turn out.We were planning a bike ride before the bad weather comes, but will see what the next hour brings.4c.
Masses of crocus and snowdrops vying for space. All the crocus are purple so I wonder if the yellow blossom later ? I've never noticed before so maybe I should get a hobby.

It has been bucketing down for the last two days . Flood warnings are out for the Sunshine coast rivers , including the Mary river and Gympie. 80-90 mm expected again tomorrow. Last weeks forecast was there will be some cloud but don't pin your hopes on much rain. Yeah right! Ron.

Here's one for you Diane.......I'm so excited that spring is on the way I wet my plants.

Managed an enjoyable cycle after all, so feel entitled to an afternoon with a good book.

I bailed around 150 litres of water out of my unit today . It belted down all day. all the rivers and creeks are in flood and more tomorrow. The rain was so hard that it came through the walls and was dripping from the ceiling ,and I'm in a downstairs flat. I checked the old lady upstairs to see if her roof was leaking but it wasn't. We must have had 150 mm in two hours. I had a nanna nap in the afternoon , when I got off the bed I was standing in water. Ron.

Rainy and cold today

Omg, Ron50, that's all you need. That place is going to be damp for about a month if you have hot weather. That won't do you any good at all. Your health doesn't need that to contend with. Hope all resolves itself very soon.

Very sunny, nippy out, no rain though. 5 more days of February!

Carol, that was funny.

-5C 10 cms of snow. Like Cmack I am getting low on wood, the lowest I've been at for this time of year. 2.5 cords left, but the last rows are wet, so I may have only 1.5 cords to work with. I am not ready for spring, when the snow melts it will be a long summer of outdoor work to catch up on, and I don't feel at all up to it. I'd rather just go skiing, and then park it in the easy chair.

The day began with a hard frost but it melted pretty quickly.4c and dry so nice enough for a cycle to the next town up the coast for CBD oil.Our local shop had sold out since an ad.on TV. and dropping the price by half. The shop up the coast had sold out too ,funnily enough. But I enjoyed the ride.Forecast is still threatening cold weather from Siberia in the next few days.
Ron,I had a horrible feeling you'd get flooded, just what you need eh?

We went through some lengthly shortages here about a year after I was approved for medical pot. Supply was falling short of the large wave of new patients and couldn't keep up. Now its become quite reliable with a lot of new products. I find that it helps with both pain and my mental health.

Once it gets to that point spring becomes a welcome guest. This is the first year that I could be caught with my pants down. Last year I could not find the strength to get what I wanted done, and the cold wet summer was good for almost 1.5 cords. Summers have been wet and cold in recent years. Seems the hot dry weather has been shifting further west, and we are getting more air flow off of Hudson Bay and Northern Quebec in the spring and summer months. Not much one can do but run the saw and swing the splitter.

3c and sparkly bright.Threats of bitter cold and snow at the beginning of next week, coldest late winter for five years. But it can't last long....or could it ?

-17 brilliant sunshine, looking like a winter wonderland with the snow covering the trees. Expecting a good storm tonight. I get the feeling winter is running out of gas.

Lovely and sunny today, but yes, it starts tomorrow. Should I cut my daffs that have almost flowered or leave them to freeze, this is the thing.

I get my CBD from Ebay, Carol. Does CBD oil have THC in it in America?

Ah, lucky Canadians. I'm trying out the English version, no THC.

Very sunny at the moment but tomorrow it starts. Hibernation onset for me I think.

3c and cloudy.Low temps and snow from Siberia on its way by tomorrow.BUT it will not be anywhere near the snow and temps in Canada so I won't complain.Ron,you can knock points off for that,it's worth it. (not complaining on the weather whingers thread, that is)

Hi, Carol. Can I ask about how to deal with the pond fish in severe icy weather? I've got a ruddy great frog in there too. Never noticed him before. I've smashed the ice twice today and lifted most off. Do you have fish that stay out all winter including the Beast from the East?

How deep is your pond? If it is several feet deep the fish should be fine, and if they made it this far through winter spring is just around the corner. If in doubt knock a hole in the ice and or place a bubbler to provide some oxygen.

Last night we received 20 cms of new snow. Its going to be an afternoon of digging out.

The pond is around 2ft I think at its deepest. I shall remain hopeful. God knows how long our bitter cold weather will last. They're not saying how long. I shouldn't be complaining though with the wind chill it could be around -9C to -15C.

Our three goldfish were previously in an indoor tank in the house, but grew,as they do.They've done ok for 4/5 winters outside. They tend to stay on the bottom when it's very cold and they don't get fed unless the temp.rises and they come to the top and show interest.Don't smash the ice as it could shock them.Hold a pan of boiled or v.hot water on the surface to melt a breathing hole,or float a ball on the surface and twist it off for same effect. The frog will be ok.Our "pond" is a two foot deep Koi carp holding tank which we cover with ply wood and old towels, folded blanket and polythene late afternoon,The outside is covered in fake grass.Hubby says if you just cover some/half of the pond (not creosoted wood though) it should be ok.I think we'll be all clear weather-wise by next weekend ,hopefully.
