What is YOUR weather like today??

18c with a light breeze and light showers.
our air travel is in chaos, railways are on strike, bus routes are being cancelled, Luckily we're not planning to travel far. EVER !!!
Scott hopes to get here in late August./ early September It's been over 3yrs since we were together so we look forward to his arrival.
But I'm already dreading the goodbyes,......

Sunny, but not warming up. Been cutting wood, not much else one can do in this weather, too cold for any kind of patio or beach activities. I'm done with travel for the time being, the good byes, and the looming bill for it all was on my mind already when I booked the trip in March. Now I have another, I cannot create video discs of my trip, and the computer tech said to leave the laptop alone until he can look into it before I may lose it all.

We are ok at the moment but 500 km of the NSW coast between Newcastle and Batemans by has been inundated with the heaviest daily rainfall of 500 mm registered south of Sydney. All of the major water supply dams in the area are spilling and thousands of people have already been evacuated. They are expecting a further 100-150 mm again today in the flooded area. It is the fourth time in 18 months this area has been flooded. Ron.

Same as yesterday at 18c........there's not much happening to bring joy into our lives lately eh? What with shark attacks, glaciers collapsing, rain and floods etc. and maybe a hose pipe ban in the south as temps expected to soar to 34c and they're saying now that the hospital cases for Covid are at an 18 month high .!!! No Chris or DI., showing up yet either.
People filling up at the pumps are breaking out in a sweat too.I think they've got Car-ona virus symptoms

Yes Buff ,I hope it is not an example of what we can expect in the future. I certainly cannot remember us ever getting rain like this in winter. There is currently three lows off the east coast causing all the rain. We have rain falling here at the moment and for another two days but fortunately no floods yet. Hugs to Di and Chris, Ron.

12C Rain and cold. Put the fire on last night, and I expect the same tonight. Going to the outhouse is difficult with the biting flies. The mosquitos are the worst in years. I have to be ready to simply get in and out in seconds with the colostomy prepared to be drained before even entering to speed up the process. They are on bare skin drilling with in seconds.

Yes Di and Carol it is pretty depressing for the people going thru the floods and the aftermath of cleaning everything up then wondering if it is going to keep happening every couple of months. People are getting cross that the Government is not doing anything but what are they going to do? tow the whole east coast out to Alice springs. Some of the forecasters believe we may be shifting to a permanent La Nina. We have all been warned in Australia what will happen with global warming, now the truth of it is biting us on the arse, Ron.

Austrailia has been in the news, we have similar problems; some years better some years worse, most of the problems stem from building in areas prone to bad weather events. Stay long enough in one place prone to fires or flooding and it will come back in bad ways. In my case the worry is wild fire; building and living in an area known for active fires, but so far in the last 38 years living in the area luck has been on our side. The question is how long will it last? The recent clearcut logging has raised the odds for hotter faster fires. Hopefully in my last years until the grave it won't happen, but one will never know for sure.

The warm weather hung around another day longer, perhaps it was some from down Lynda's way. Ron, things are similar with the healthcare system here. Due to covid burnout our hospitals are working short staffed and cannot keep up in the ER and with procedures. I am considering putting off my scope this year for two reasons; the present situation in healthcare together with that I have been feeling far better of late and don't want to rock the boat. Remission is like good weather, it doesn't come around often and never lasts long enough.

Hi Di., how you doin '? no news yet after your tests ? I hope you're managing OK. At least it's warm for you.
I'm really suffering with the heat.I'm like Sweaty Betty, no mistake. Buff,I refused a colonoscopy which was due in June because I'd been a bit rough and couldn't face the prep. and I think maybe it wasn't a good idea, but I see where you're going.Let's hope you feel well for as long as you can manage

It is around 16c today up from 7c overnight. Unfortunately I have to keep up regular scopes. With the number of polyps I get if I don't have regular checks I am almost certain to finish up with colon cancer again. They have already told me that any further surgery or chemotherapy will most likely be the end of me. The idea of dying from incompetence in the health system really annoys me. Ron.

Yesterday was a cold wet day full of mosquitos. Today is a better day, but still well below normal. I think we are all in the same boat about our health and our outlook. I'll take things a day at a time, and with covid still circulating, its just as well that I stay away from the medical centers when my health is doing okay. Its not perfect by any measure, but I can live with it.

A very heavy shower right now and the earth needs it so I hope it lasts long enough to make a difference. Really high temps on the way from Europe,Maybe 40s in the South and mid 30s up here. There's a "danger to life" warning as we're not used to those temps in the UK. Also there were 3,500.000 people with covid last week. Not in hospital, although those numbers are in the thousands. The big number are those isolating at home, but what about those who haven't owned up ?

24C A couple of warm summer days coming up, the kind where one would want to go to the beach or spend time on the deck without that chill that comes when the sun goes behind a cloud. We need some extended warmth and dryer weather to help knock down the biting flies, and warm up the lakes.

Lots of snow in the southern states . We had a cool start but will get up to 24c during the day. We are expecting heavy rain later in the week with the possibility of triple digit falls. The weather bureau is saying we will definitely exceed the wettest year in our recorded history this year. Covid is ramping to the max as is influenza. Two cruise ships have returned to port with hundreds of covid cases. Our hospitals are in crisis. The cold wet winter has not helped. Ron.

31c now at 2pm today.tomorrow is expected to be 35c tomorrow up here in the chilly north east. But hey,it's going to be a lovely cooling 25c during tonight........I hope Diane is OK, and Chris of course.

22C Its been many years since the last heat wave has been in our area. Our biggest heatwaves was when I was still working, hot as an oven down in the boileroom having to have one boiler available and running for steam and hot water, nothing easy. Ron, I wouldn't want to take a cruise yet with so much covid in circulation. Today looks to be the last of the good warm weather for the next several days, short lived but I will take it in.

Usually when we get snow in Tasmania it is never below 800 meters . Today the snow weather alert is snow to sea level for all of Tasmania. Our temp yesterday reached 25c. Today is 18c. The rain is expected to hit tomorrow and stay for four days. The constant flooding has had a major impact on vegetable prices. Iceberg lettuce are currently selling for $12.00 each. I am only buying frozen veggies and canned for things like tomatoes. I hardly use the car because the fuel is so dear. Ron.

Almost 31c may rise to 35c later, I'm not moving around much except to get an ice pop from the freezer. Expected to drop to 20c here tomorrow. which is 5c lower than it was during the night.......at least we're not having the fires Europe is enduring

Up to 37c now at 3-20pm I'm just off to put my head under the tap.........the cold one

18C. Over like dover, and back into the wet weather. Unsettled best describes the summer this year, a couple warm days followed by several wet cold ones. $12 for lettuce is riddiculous Ron, but I can easily see that happening here as groceries go up by a dime or more every week with no signs of any price relief. For those who don't have access to wood for heat, the coming winter will be very expensive. Carol, don't you have some sort of aircondtioning? If it is for even one day out of the year, its well worth it. I use a simple window unit and it chills the whole main level of the house for very little electricity and the unit is now over 40 year old since I bought it, it owes me nothing.

The rain has started again. That will only add to our problems. The east coast has most of our fruit and veggie farms and many of them have been under water 3 times this year . The southern states have been so cold this winter that the hydroponic sheds they use to grow veggies have been uneconomical and cannot produce enough for the east coast. Their is a high likelihood of another La nina this coming year. That will be three years in a row if it happens. Ron.

It's a lot cooler today,up this end at least...... 22c with a light breeze. Buff hot weather tends to take us by surprise and as soon as we think about doing something it's over, for a day or two at least. I think the problem now is our age...I mean if we're not going to pay $12 for a lettuce or £7-50 for Lurpack butter, are we going to live long enough to get the benefit of air-con??? Morbid,I know.but be honest we of a certain age tend to think that way........there have been multipil wild fires around the country including many house fires. Never before seen in the UK. Europe are still struggling with fires with many holiday makers stranded with nothing,,,,,,

I went in for supplies and I had to turn on the heat. It was a soggy, dark, gray day. My truck was full of mosquitos, as they followed me in. A news report today states that Lake Superior is well below normal in terms of surface temperatures, which influences the weather in the region along with Hudson's bay. Calling Superior a lake is an understatement, it has all the characteristics of a sea in terms of sheer size and depth along with the types of marine life with in. 14C Gray and wet.

Hi Carol, your posting at the same time as I am. Now, I don't know how to say it but, air conditioning I find is as important as a furnace is in winter. I could go a day or two without heat in January, but I wouldn't make it through one day without some form of airconditioning in the house. I remember the first appliance I ever bought when I was young when I first left home was an air condtioner for that cabin I rented. Without it I could not sleep and do shift work. It was a necessity. I just don't understand why people are dying of the heat in Europe, or allowed to when one day's worth of a working wage would pay for a typical window unit. The bugs are bad today, I may just hibernate.

Hi carol it was very sad to see the news yesterday . It was what we see every summer in Australia but we are used to it and our emergency services are structured to deal with wildfires quickly. For most of England it is a totally new experience and would be terrifying to deal with. I hope your heatwave is over. Buff although I live in the tropics all of our houses are screened for mosquitoes . The population here is well educated in mozzie bourne disease and rarely go out in summer without deet insect repellant . People tend to forget that mosquitoes are the most deadly creatures on the planet. I hate them. Ron.

A lot cooler again today but they say standby for more to come next month, The fire depts had the worst couple of days since The Blitz and people had to leave home so fast they only have the clothes they were wearing. Totally unpresidented (spell) ?
I'm very glad I'm not a youngster starting out in life and that our son is now in middle age.

20 Sunshine. Screens are an absolute necessity here, and the mosquitos will work there way in cracks, or if the screens don't fit tight. I have to close the fresh air intake on the airconditioner when not in use or they get in through there. I won't be going anywhere near my remote cabin until fly season is over unless I want insanity. I've gone through enough insect repellant and pic coils, I should buy stocks from the bug spray business, its been an awful summer unless one is a mosquito. The genny ran for a good part of the day yesterday with the power outage, and even the bugs are buzzing around the warmth of the running generator. I wouldn't want to be a line worker in these buggy conditions.

It was a bad night with 130mm of rain falling in the last 12 hours. I was flooded but my modification of the back door sill earlier in the year save me from most of it. We have been warned to expect more rain before the end of the ear. The rain event has moved just offshore and is producing winds up to 100kph. Ron.

I managed to cut part of my lawn before a late afternoon thunderstorm moved through. Afterwards the mosquitos were fierce, I cannot use the outhouse much after supper, one would get eaten alive. 20 C Sunny start to the day, but we may get rain again later on. On the upside, there are no wildfires of any concern in the region, it's just too soggy.

Very windy with gusts up to 100kph. A man was swept away by flash floods at Nanango and drowned. The rain has stopped for the moment but with an east coast low roaming around offshore you never know what is coming. I am really over the rain and being flooded. Ron.

20C Sunny start to the day, and for once the wind is not constantly blowing. Its been a long stretch of bad weather down your way Ron. I am done with this cold wet buggy summer. Looking forward to fall, anticipating winter and getting back on my skis.

23c and breezy........I agree Buff, I'm really looking forward to getting the winter jackets and boots on, but poor Ron's winters are not going well. I used to imagine that because you're a native of a certain country the weather would be tolerable because you grew up with it , but that's not so eh ?......Di., Chris have you eloped ?

15C showers. Carol, we all have our favorite seasons, for me its fall and winter. I like summer too, but only when the temperatures are in the high 20's which is usually the case for 6-8 weeks of the year, but this year we only had a handful of days. With fall comes time in the woods, anticipation of the coming winter, and often nice days. Winter, its the outdoors, and long evenings in the warm house. Today would appear to be one where I will simply hibernate, its cold, wet, and the bugs are very thick.

21c but muggy with intermitant heavy showers which we really need. We've bought a car.......we thought we could do without one but after 10 months we had to admit we were ready for 4 wheels again..I mean which silly B's in their mid 70-s with health problems, decide they can manage on public transport , 2 wheels or foot ?

I know what you mean Carol. I sorted out my problems with the brake lights on the car. During the time I was not driving I walked everywhere and now I can hardy walk at all because of hip and sciatic pain. I saw the doctor yesterday He was not concerned about the pain but he was not happy with my pulse rate. It is regularly below 50 bpm. It was normally 75-80 bpm. he thought my BP machine might be faulty but I said my finger pulse meter was giving the same results .He tried his pulse meter and the result was 55 bpm. I am not that fit. Temps from 9c to 25c. Ron.

We are still getting unseasonal rain. We have a new band coming thru next weekend. Some scary scenes coming from North America with flooding and loss of life and the prospect of drought in England and Europe. Stay safe everyone, Ron.

Warm and breezy today......World weather is getting really scarey. We all know we can't beat nature and I'm sure we've left it too late to make things right. But I suppose governments have to be seen trying.Good for the votes don't cha know.

The whole southern half of Australia is seeing severe weather conditions with rain and strong winds up to 125 kph. The area around Perth is experiencing swells up to 10 meters with some severe erosion on beaches. It looks like southern NSW will get more flooding rain with flood watches on the Tumut and Murrumbidgee rivers. Ron.

Oh bloody hell, is there no end to it ? OK here so far.warm and breezy again. South of the country is really parched though and the hose pipe bans start on Friday . Everythings going to Hell over here but I think it's only the older generation who are worried.
A snorkeler was bitten by a shark in the far south (Cornwall) on Monday.First time in 175 yrs !!! And so it begins !!!!
I have an awful feeling Di.'s unwell.I feel bad because she gave me details of her doctor who I could phone to enquire, and 've lost it. I'm blaming his indoors 'cos he's always rootling in the drawers for something and nothing. Fingers x'ed she's OK.And Chris of course.

Yes I am worried about Di as well. You could see the deterioration in her posts. Her fingers could not seem to find the right keys very often. It is the saddest part of dealing with seriously ill people, just not knowing and not being able to find out. I feel that Chris is ok. he is just trying to sort out his ife and is taking some time out. If he needs us we will be here for him. Hugs ron.

I noticed that Ron but didn't want to point it out......we on this thread especially, all care for each other and it is a worry when folk stop posting.During the years I've been on the forum many people have" gone off" so to speak, but we can only hope they're well.

I thought for awhile last week that this thread had died. We are a group that cares for one another, we communicate albeit over the internet, but our conversations are very real. I am very worried about Di, I saw it too how her posts went into decline. I am sure Chris is just fine, his life is pretty busy. The weather has been a little better of late, but still on the wet and cold side. Soon I got to get into moving and stacking wood, it is August already the calendar is moving, but it doesn't feel like it as I am still waiting for some summer heat.

We are expecting more rain in the rest of this week. Heavy rain is falling in the southern alps and the Australian Capital territory(Canberra). They are expecting 100-150mm today. I am finding the mold is having an effect on me. I am having to use my asthma puffer everyday . Because ventolin is basically a steroid I then get disruption in my diabetes. We really do walk a fine line on the tightrope of life. Ron.

Pretty much the same thing here, except its only expected to reach 26C, then more wet below normal conditions. The weather is preventing me from getting things done, I'm falling behind on many fronts, but as long as the wood gets done I really don't care anymore I can only do so much.

It's been a nice day weather wise.Sun and short showers and a cool breeze. Hose pipe bans starting in the south and people being encouraged to "snitch" on neighbours. The land is pretty parched and reservoir levels are low so maybe we'll be ordered to share a bath with a neighbour soon.

Time for another visit to OZ carol. You only need to walk outside with some soap and shampoo and you will soon be squeaky clean. Yep I just looked out the window and it's raining. Ron.

Florida's sea turtles are suffering from a gender imbalance made worse by climate change. If an egg incubates below 27c hatchlings are male.If 30c the hatchlings will be female.Almost every turtle born now is female.....just saying.
18c breezy and cloudy here today, perfect drying out weather Ron......but temps to rise to 40c in the south and mid 30s up here in the chilly north east.......and boy will I whinge !!!

10C crisp. Friday night and most of saturday was rough, something made me sick, and I wore a groove into the ground going back and forth from the outhouse with explosive diarea. I was wiped out and spent part of the day in bed and got nothing done. Its better today, and I'll cut firewood this afternoon, its too cold to do anything else. Its the year summer never got started. At least my rear is not exploding now, but I just heard on the radio that the Ukraine nuclear plant might. When I turn on the radio at breakfast time I always wonder what's next for these crazy times we are in.

Our sea turtles and saltwater crocs are suffering gender imbalance because of incubation temps Carol. I'm sorry you are unwell Buff. I'm sure stress from everyday life has a big impact on our already delicate constitutions. Ron

Warming up horribly......23c ish today. I've got a phone consultation tomorrow with my GP between 8 and 10 am.I haven't seen a regular doc for about 5yrs or spoken to one. It's a bit early for me gut wise, but he's not to know if I'm speaking to him from the bathroom eh?
Unless I'm in pain then everybody knows.Hope the rains abated Ron , and Buff please don't overdo it when you've had a bad few days. But I do understand you needing to get on top of the winter fuel supply

14C Sunshine. It feels more like early May than the second week of August. Feeling better I cut wood in the afternoon albiet not very much, maybe an hour. Its surprising what one can accomplish in an hour, but by then I felt spent. Then I sat out on the deck until I felt a chill when the clouds moved back in. Carol, all my doctor visits have been over the phone with no indication of when patients will see their doctor in the office. For the most part the phone appointments work, I take my blood pressure before the call, and make a list of all my concerns.

Hotter and hotter here but not as hot as Ron's place gets obviously.Your present temps are perfect for me Buff. I've just been reading the upcoming price rises in our house fuel. Bloody hell !!!! Ours usually is about £ 1000 ish annually but £4000 is being quoted to terrify people. We are pretty careful so do'nt really know until we get the bills what the damage will be.We're being promised a couple of hundred pounds in help from the government....Yabbadabbadoooooo. Might have to send Les over to the park with an axe and I bet he won't be alone....Doc call went average. He kept asking me to speak up and he spoke with an accent which didn't help.I almost lost the will to live. I mean I didn't know him and he certainly had no idea who I was. I suppose it's too much to hope for my old family doc. back.

Carol I flat out refuse to do phone appointments. It is all for their benefit not ours. When I see my docs they usually either say your looking well or you look like sheite. They have tried to give me to every doctor in the practice. I just tell them to bugger off. I see three docs, GP. ,nephrologist and skin specialist. They haven't cured me of anything but they haven't killed me yet. Dry for a few days but a wet weekend coming up. PS I have enjoyed watchin the commonwealth games. Ron.

22C. One summer day, the first in a very long time. Carol, my regular heating bill would be north of $4,000 on an average winter, last winter many paid far more than that unless they had access to natural gas. Heating with wood, keeps my bill below $1000. With fuel prices sitting high, heating costs will be a lot worse in the upcoming winter. I am cutting extra wood to reduce my oil use further. I had another episode of afib when my heart went into flutter mode. Not good when my blood pressure was only 99/81 heart rate 160. The chair was handy, otherwise I would have been on the floor. Then things settled and the heart reset itself and my brownout ended. One day its going to be my end, and when it does maybe it isn't so bad.

Wow. that's scarey Buff.....between you and Ron and me,I'm as fit as a lop. so gawd knows how you two get by.Tough outdoors guys.I'm feeling concerened about Di., but we can only hope she pops in soon.Chris has probably got his motor running on the highways....oh ! to be young (er) again, without the trials and tribulatios. The grass is no always greener......

I am sorry to hear that Buff. Atrial fib and atrial flutter are pretty serious. Mine was dxed in hospital during a vertigo attack. They would no let me out of hospital until I agreed to take warfrin. I had no idea of what the dangers were until they told me of the danger of clotting as a result of afib. I was taken off warfrin this year because I no longer had a flutter. That amused me. In my experience serious chronic medical conditions don't just go away. When I saw my doc last month and I told him about a low pulse rate , the first thing he did was to check for afib My pulse is still around 50 bpm. Ron.

27c and rising......One village in the south has completely run out of water. Here as our verges and sports fields are still green (ish) and it' But a little shower or two would be nice.Scott sent a pic of the horses paddock and it's about a foot under water today,He also sent a pic of a very handsome toad on the patio, looking for somewhere dry I expect

Yesterday was a dandy summer day +30C, and even the airconditioner had a brief run, today its back to reality with much cooler conditions. Its been a year and a half since my last episode of afib. But I have been feeling it lately again. Yesterday I had that feeling it could come on again at the store. I did not go down the soup aisle where I had an episode a couple years back just in case. I'm living with it, I took an aspirin right after it happened. I've accepted it, when the heart blows up, then that is it. I am old enough to say I have had enough time of it on this planet, somebody else can have a turn at it should they wish and take my place. My near death experience at the hospital suggests there maybe something better beyond.

Cloudy with a forecast of rain tomorrow and a storm on saturday. Carol we have been seeing pictures of rivers and streams drying up on the continent and southern England. Very disturbing. Our rivers are still running high and the ground is sodden. Any forecast of heavy rain brings a risk of further flooding. Ron.

Still hot but it can't last forever ....? So sick of summer,I want Autumn,I want to wear a parka and boots and eat soup and drink hot tea
and rake leaves and summon demons when everyone is asleep and the moon is full and I'm wearing socks and a thick sweater........I'll stop now,the heats got to me as you can tell.

We are reasonably cool of a morning , around 8-11c and 20-25c during the day. They are predicting a hot wet summer. I have enough high humidity to last a lifetime. Ron.

We live on a planet of extremes, no heatwaves here of anykind, and it seems that the media has started calling standard summer weather as droughts, anything to butter up people for another tax on fuel. Earlier in the summer when we had our first nice summer day, they made it sound like it was the end of times. Its simply been one cold front after another since spring. Last night dropped to 5C and the moon was very bright. I got nothing done yesterday, I felt laid out and my veins were blue, but today I feel like doing some things around the yard. Carol, I'd be willing to pack up all this cold weather as a trade for some of that heat wave over there, the lakes never warmed up enough to go for a dip this year

It was 8c overnight. Instead of being nice and warm under my normal covers my legs were on fire. It was so bad that i got up at 3.30 am and checked my blood sugars and BP and pulse. My sugars were 6.3 which wasn't bad , my BP was 122/60 and my pulse was 47. When I got up this morning my sugars had risen to 8.3 (no food or drink since 3.30) by bp was 130/90 and my pulse was 60. I think I must have a faulty control chip.Ron.

Maybe your thermostat needs an overhaul Ron but I must say your BP readings sound ok to me.
23c today. We had a run to a town a couple of miles along the coast for some bits and pieces (on 4 wheels, not legs) and on the way back we couldn't see the beach for sea fret.Blessed relief for me as temp dropped a few degrees, but a shame for the thousands of visitors making pests of themselves.Hmmph.

9C overcast. You are running a bit undervolt, but it looks magageable Ron. The main thing is that one can get an actual reading, and the lights are still on when we start the next day. I mowed the lawn, and felt quite good afterwards which I take as a good sign. I want to get back on the woodpile to keep up with the seasonal change. Its mid month already and I don't want winter to bite me in the butt for being tardy on the wood effort.

Cold and wet.. Clearing up tomorrow. We seem to have a weekly cycle of nice weather during the week and rubbish on the weekends. The most dangerous part of my day is in the morning. My first step is ok it's when I turn at the end of the bed I nearly spin out and hit the deck. Ron.

25C AND STILL TOO WARM FOR ME........MORE FRET OFF THE SEA AND IT TRAVELLED ABOUT HALF A MILE UP THE RIVER WHICH WAS COMFORTABLEY COOLISH AND A BIT SPOOKY......HAS.ANYONE HEARD "THE FOG ON THE TYNE" BY LINDISFARNE ? Named after a Holy Island up the coast aways.

14C cloudy humid. They say the most dangerous time of the day for cardiac trouble is when we wake up as our blood pressure spikes. I pay attention to my body when I first wake and ease myself gently into the day. I don't rush for anything in the mornings, and no morning appointments, my body cannot take it. Carol 25 C is a nice day, but I like 28C better for general summertime activities. I don't think we are going to see much in those temps as summer starts to wane, summer activities are going to get limited. I got a good deal done yesterday, include two loads of wood, and I may get more done today.

Started over cast and warm,26c now with not a cloud to be seen.Thunder storms coming they say but because the ground is so dry it's unlikely to make much difference as there'll be run off.We don't have a hosepipe ban up here yet. There was a pic in the paper of a line of people queuing for bottled water in the street. The shelves have been emptied of it.......and so it begins.....

Thought for the day........I don't know who needs to know this but even if a bear wears socks and shoes, he still has bear feet
