That doesn't sound right, Ron, don't you have a diagnosis of crohn's? Black stools can mean you're bleeding somewhere internally. Did he/she do any tests?
It is my experience watching Doug and others here that those with crohn's, even in remission, still will have IBS like symptoms, but the actual diagnosis is still crohn's.
I have to leave for a bit, but will be back later.
How are you feeling?
 
I feel like I can't empty myself. Yes, I do have Crohn's. They did calprotectin, blood and urine. The first two tests were fine. The last test, they did blood work on the urine instead of protein. With some other things in my life, I am feeling stressed.
 
I'll be back, but have to run to do a couple errands and can't find my purse and keys right now (disappeared into thin air?!?). Perhaps those of you who have been diagnosed an IBD can respond to the medical part better.

Each day now that am a little better.....but rather be home for a quicker recovery
Seeing sick people day after day is not exactly my cup of tea....nor theirs obviously
The surgery has been a success and I just have to pull myself together and get out of here
Walking is a bit wonky but as soon as I can get it better I'm out of here

Hey Ron, I think in your case, you just have to follow your gut (no pun intended. Or maybe it is. :)) From what I understand, sometimes they do calprotectin tests a few weeks apart when there is known IBD to see what changes take place.
Also, have you eaten anything dark like licorice, red beets or used pepto bismol? These can turn stools black, and if I remember correctly gave Doug a scare once (or was it me?). But if your tummy troubles are really bothersome, (which can cause stress, and stress can aggravate medical conditions), I would get in touch with your GI again. The people on the forum are always here, too.
 
Hey all, thinking of you all and hoping you are all doing better than the last time I got to check in. The lady I hired to cover my job quit on Monday so even though I spent Thursday and most of Friday in the hospital I was back at work on Monday and have been there since - not fun - but probably sane making. I wish you all well and for now am winning. :ghug:

Morning all.I've just had a brisk walk in the cold wind to try to pull myself together (like the drapes/curtains) it didn't work,so I'm off to the supermarket and to the local recycling centre with my hubby. ( wonder what I'll get in his place ?)
 
When you GI phones back Ron, suggest a colonoscopy or a pill cam. Pill cam and calprotectin tests work to diagnose me as I have crohns in my small bowel. My ESR and CRP test normal when I flare. Phone again tomorrow if you haven't heard back.

It's 3 am here, I'll get back to sleep soon, I hope.
 
Aura,they called a short time ago. They want to repeat the calprotectin, the urine and the blood work.

Happy to hear from you Grumpy. I was getting kinda worried about you. Echoing the colonoscopy or pill cam suggestions Ron. It will give the best indication of what is currently going on internally. Hope you feel better soon. Have a visit with my GI myself tomorrow. I think the surgery option will be thrown around again. I've been managing to postpone it more than a year but I suspect that may be changing soon if nothing else can be figured out. Best wishes all!

Hi Kirsty ye mine is in small bowel. Colonoscopy showed nothing but ct scan showed it. Thus why i find it strange my gi wants to do another shortly ?? I think i will have to ring and see about that dont want to drink that prep for nothing again lol. Horrid stuff !!! You take care hun x
 
Right ok has none been suggested by docs. I asked mine for some loperimide which helped a lot . I also have bile salts malaborbstion which has contributed to the d . Have u been checked for that ? It can cause the d and weight loss, im hoping i can gain a few pound now im on questran for it. ...
 
Have not been checked. Getting ready to have calprotectin checked again along with blood and urine.
 
Ok it may be worth a mention when u go for those and see what they think/say. It's just a thought that that maybe a possibility. Good luck ron hope things get sorted soon what ever the issues turn out to be.. Take care mate

What a great thing for you to do, Mandy!
I just realized I forgot to claim my prize today, so here I am.
Tomorrow (well, actually today now, but after I've had some sleep), I'm off to the doc to see if surgery is going to be scheduled. If I do have it, it will be a simple laparoscopic surgery tho.
But for today's prize I want a nicely appointed cabin in the woods by a lake or stream.

How about we share the cabin Sandy ? Or we could use it for our Christmas do and hire in the caterers and decorators and beauticians.I would like to go trekking and dog-sleighing too.

I didn't walk as far as planned,because of various aches and pains etc.but at least I tried.
Trouble was,I was walking further away from public loos,and didn't feel positive enough.
Managed an hour though,so winning !!!!!
 
Cold and rainy today. Would have been a good day for movies and a lap blanket on the sofa.
 
It's early Saturday here. We have a long weekend. Have fun. I can't wait till we have shifted. I hate moving. I'd like to skip the pack and unpack stage.
 
When are you expecting to move Kirsty ? I think the sooner you start packing the better.Everything that sits in the back of the cupboards and wardrobes unused,can be boxed up and or dumped / donated.It's very stressful.Make a list of people to be informed eg.docs.hospital.vet.dentist,power company etc. and cross them off,when it's done.I know you've probably done it all before,but it's amazing how much effort it all takes.Especially when you're not feeling good.I'm NEVER going to move again.We were in our last home nearly 30yrs and we only moved over the road.But I'll be leaving here feet first.Hopefully in another 30yrs,but doubtful hahaha.
 
I've started packing Carol. I started a couple of weeks ago. We move end of November. This is our 8th move hopefully our last now. Like you said. Feet first from the new place in 30 years or so.
 
Hello all, its Friday for me yay! Have to go have another scope next week on Friday too! What is up with that? Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I will be thinking happy and peaceful thoughts for all of you (hasn't worked so far though) - winning for a minute and a half.

Well, things are moving fast, I get to have my surgery next Wednesday, pre-op appointment Monday. I'll be glad just to have it done and over with.
Even with that, I think most of you are dealing with much harder issues than me at the moment. Sending my happy and peaceful thoughts as well. Happy weekend everyone!
 
One of the surgical team visited me today and apologized that he did not know I was in rehab....actually I am still surgical the rehab staff say and they are waiting for me to be admitted to rehab....I am on the rehab Ward for goodness sake
The surgeon wants a neurological opinion .....in the meantime I know I am getting better,he said it will take two months for the large incision line to heal
So by the time they decide what to do I won't be needing them....
Can't wait to escape.....

I think maybe we should cheer ourselves up and all plan and implement a plan for "the great escape" for Trysha. Let's see, we'll need wire and bolt cutters, saws to bust her out, maybe someone or someones in disguise as a nurse and/or doctor, transportation to get her home, money to bribe some guards, a private home health care nurse, doctor and rehab team, plus cook to live next door to Trysha that she call at the press of a button whenever (and if) she ever wants them, etc. etc.
Okay who is going to do what and how do we implement this?

Also to Trysha, It's ok to complain sometimes too. Some people's pain may be less and some people's may be more, but yours is yours and nobody can say what you are going thru but you. I wish life were easier for you right now, though. :kiss:

Chore fairy shortage in my neighborhood so they'll have wait until tomorrow.
 
Do you have pet Bison Shanen......they must eat a lot....they are awe inspiring animals...
Would not like to get on the wrong side of them
I prefer smaller animals,dogs,cats etc
My sister sends me socks from England and the pair I wore today have Love Bug on the soles and are patterned over the rest of the socks with multicoloured lady bugs...quite striking and different
On Halloween I will be wearing the black socks with green witch faces and oranges pumpkins patterned all over will be quite the talking point on the Ward....certainly relieves the hospital boredom....think I am becoming part of the wallpaper around here
The surgeon visits daily even weekends ...and says I am doing well but he wants a neurologist opinion...I am getting better regardless of what they think
Hope everyone else is more comfortable and ready for the holiday
The recreation therapist has arranged a party for us but I only enjoy the LOW parties....
When's the great escape that Sandy mentioned? Can't wait

When the surgeon said ...a few more days... My heart lept to the sky..freedom I thought at last,,,,,,but then ,he continued....he would hand me over to the rehab team....what a downer....one of them had said 4weeks in rehab???? WHAT!!
He also added ......... But...you have to see the neurologist first........
He could see I am better than before
I have been in the rehab Ward for two weeks now...but no actual program...a few steps here and there.....wonder if that two weeks will shorten the four weeks
Ah well! I have a beautiful view from my window....lots of inedible lovely hospital food...lovely nurses
What more could anyone ask?

How are you all today...good to see you Carol....where's Kirsty.,Shanen, Grumps Ron and everyone else and what has happened to Dave and Robert??

Bit like Robin Hood in Sherwood forest having a venison roast...not that I am a meat eater and I get upset at the thought of these beautiful,graceful animals being used in this way

We can break out and head up the mountain to the Falls...plenty of places to hide en route and I"ll be all forgotten about in a few days.the hospital will never miss me...there's plenty of other patients on whom they can hone their skills.So...Up and Away...what's keeping everybody

My small carry on case with wheels is ready packed
All Meds taken I'm ready for a swift night flight under the dark purple skies
The nurses know I am a trustee patient quite undemanding so there are long gaps before they appear....sometimes I think they don't like the bother of puttingon gowns ,gloves etc
All in my favour for speedy escape
Supper time is early at 5 pm and after that I don't see anyone till 8 pm....Meds and beds...
There...that should help with the plan
Please don't frighten me with fancy disguises though but I appreciate the need for anonymity

Oh Carol girl , what a disaster, all my so called friends from my old place of work let me down , no one turned up, so i had to abandon ship hun :).. but like a phoenix i will rise from the flames n arrange another 1 nxt year. :dance: I dont think i will ask any of that lot tho ... onwards n upwards .. where are meeting to go n get Trysha , im ready for the off when you are kid x

Hi peeps, sorry I slept thru so much of the planning stage, but you've got things well in hand I see. Trysh, dear, don't worry about getting your wheelchair brought in for you, I'll ride my electric one to your side then you can take over as I haven't used mine for quite some time. It's shiny red, should keep the nocturnal critters away. On top of that, it does pretty well and has good suspension for unpaved wooded paths. (It took me all the way up to lower emerald pools at a national park in our state once, quite a feat). It's also fast and can outpace most people's walking, but we don't want to appear too anxious. If we need to hide you, we'll create a smoke cloud with one of Robert's cigars smoked between you (but not to close to you) and the enemy. Once to the access road past the falls and wooded area, Doug will make a good getaway driver as he never draws attention with his slow careful driving. But he can drive fast if he needs to also. Everyone, make sure you bring hard hats with electric lamps so we can see in the dark. Kirsty, would you cook for the crew, we so love your cooking and know you know how to make tummy friendly dishes? Shanen, have you spied out who the most dangerous opponents are yet? Carol, glad you've got the heavy lifting covered. Mandy, Grumps and the rest, you're great brains at this operation. Your plans and strengths have practically guaranteed our success! Ready? One, two three, ... let's roll!
 
P.S. Mandy, keep your hard hat hidden under your witches hat until you catch up. Oh, there you are! I see you running back there. ..
 
PPS, Carol, you look stunning (not that you weren't always beautiful, or you wouldn't have been able to pull it off), in your Lara Croft disguise.

8pm after meds when the staff think Trysha is taken care of and quiet for the night. They gather for a long cup of tea and gossip. Everyone remember to wear dark clothes.
 
Oh Trysha, I never planned on it being permanent, I want my chair back for next year when we can actually go to the Utes games, and I know you will be far done with it by then, by several months. Shanen, you're holding your post well. Ron, have you noticed anything out of the ordinary (besides extra tummy grumbles? I hope yours is doing a little better. )

P.S. The Utes lost to a team that was unranked at the time! We fell from No. 3 in the country to No. 13! Boooooooo!
